Best rom for Redmi 4X? - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

I just bought a Redmi 4X and it's running MIUI.
For those who has the phone for more time already and experience. Which rom is the best for Redmi 4X in terms of performance/free ram and batery life?
MIUI? Lineage? Ressurection Remix? Other?

Use MIUI Pro/Xiaomi.EU For Best Battery Backup and Much Personalized Option in addition to MIUI.
For stock Experience, You should go for RR Official or Many Users Reports ViperOS have got them the best Battery Backup and Performance is also Good. Try Dot.OS too

I have tried some custom roms, but somehow I always end coming back to miui. For custom roms I really like mokee and the last unofficial AEX with f2fs support (I think official RR should be almost the same but right now I don't want to flash again). The problem with mokee is xposed and safety net. And AEX it feels so smooth, but after some days I noticed a drop in performance, speaking about games like asphalt Xtreme, but if you don't play games then you should be fine. Right now I'm with miui global dev 7.12.21 debloated and clarity 1.8 kernel, and I'm getting really nice battery backup without any loss in performance.
Oh and for miui, I think the best it's miui eu. But I recommend to install the 7.12.21 build. The most recent versions have bugs with notifications and camera2api. Multi pro should be good too, because if I'm not mistaken it's based on global dev, so it's already debloated and has the new notification shade.

I'm new to the Redmi 4X XDA thread here, any you tell me what's going on with this Encryption bug in TWRP ?
I've just unlocked bootloader using Mi Unlock tool and wanted to install TWRP and root to backup and then Flash RR Rom .
Do i also have to face this encryption bug as well as everyone is talking about in twrp threads ? (I've not enabled any type of encryption in MIUI. Settings are same as factory new MIUI version and use simple PIN as screen lock)
Which TWRP version should i use to have completely bug free experience ?

MIUI encrypted out of the box.
I'm on TWRP 3.1.1-0
All you have to do in order to decrypt:
Boot into TWRP recovery
Wipe
Wipe data
Format data (it will ask you to type "yes")
**You'll lose every single data in your device, so you better make a backup of your wanted files**
Make sure to disable dm verify before you boot into system (even if you just flash new ROM and GApps):
Boot into TWRP recovery
Advance
Tools
Disable dm
Cheers

New User of the Mi5, small questions

Hi there guys, just got this amazing phone yesterday and so far all going good, besides that i have 2 main questions
1. it is worth to update to Nougat (Official MIUI)? i mean, in battery life, performance, between other things, or it is just better to stay in MM? wondering since reading some comments, some say that is going so far all good, and other that it is just a buggy update
2. If the case 1 is no, it is worth to install Custom Roms? how much is the performance hit, battery hit, between others? i always had some low-mid range phones so i made everything in custom roms to get better performance, but i don't know if in this case is better (about going from MIUI to custom roms)
that's all, thanks in advance!
Hi welcome aboard !
1- I just use Miui until they allowed me to unlock my phone. So I don't know because it was on MM.
2- I can reach 5-6 hours SoT with latest LoS ROM. No lags, just very minor bug. (Be careful some screen didn't response well on custom rom if you use glass tempered. You can search it "JDI LGD mi5" for some informations)
1. There aren't many visual UI changes to the Officail nougat version of MIUI 8. RAm management has improved on the latest MIUI 8 Nougat version and a few additional settings are provided. Give it a try it is stable but if you don't like the look and feel of MIUI than flash custom ROM
2. You will need unlocked bootlaoder to install custom ROM. I would recommend following Custom Roms for you to install
(a)Official Lineage OS 14.1 or
(b)Resurrection Remix 5.8 (Based on Lineage OS 14.1) if you need more customisations

1. I would steer away from the Nougat releases as they are still very buggy and there are no observable benefits over Marshmallow
2. You can use custom ROM if you like but if you go through the forums they all seem to have problems. Personally I found Gobal Developer ROM 6.11.3 to be the best so far.

Thanks for the info! i installed OctOS and it went all good, using DragonXia kernel (Not OC) on my 32GB model since the kernel itself (like on stock miui) it is not capped and it runs really good, it is nice to see android 7.1.1 (tested nougat on 7 and well, as you said, it is like the same as with the mm one)

Well Nougat and MM are likely similar on MIUI.
But Nougat is much smooth and RAM management is better.
I won't suggest you to use Stock but I will.
Seems funny !
Actually instead of using official stock, you better use Xiaomi.eu rom.
This is a custom rom but a stock rom.
Based on CN Developer and CN Stable. It's you choice which one you prefer.
I personally think Xiaomi.eu is one of the best rom out there.
Give it a try.
Besides this one you can try Slim Dragon rom. This one is just amazing.
Mi5 roms stock or cm based are bad optimised. It's frequently lag while scrolling on some apps like Twitter, Tumblr Facebook with Snapdragon 820 unbelievable but sad true.

You can reboot to recovery from update setting but you will only see a cable and phone logo and it's useless. If you have already flashed twrp, you can go from there. About waking up lock screen, do you upgrade via ota or flash fastboot rom? I flashed miui 8.2.2 fastboot rom and didn't have a problem.

You must use zcx twrp to flash miui recovery zip. Official twrp will cause bootloop. If you are comming from custom rom, full wipe is recommended.
Can install any stable official rom with custom recovery?
Unlock bootloader and rooted

What's the problem with the original ROM?

HI,
it's my first post here, i've bought a xiaomi x4, 4gb ram version, and i'm wondering which Operating System should i use in my phone; i come fom an iphone 4s so i'm glad to have the opportunity to install an open-source SO. I see lots of costum roms and really great stuff but i use the phone just for the browsing, e-mails, messages and phone calls so the phone has to be fast and stable; Reading around shows me that costum rom means "eventual problem with stability and functions...crashes.." and so i'm questioning myself, what's the problem with the official xiaomi global rom? does it have logger or something? and maybe it's possible to install a fresh standard version of an android open os or it has to be "coded" or "ported" for my xiaomi hardware?
Thanks in advance for any answer
Official MIUI is full of bloatware: China apps, useless Google apps, Facebook and MS office preinstalled and such. For your need, I recommend trying Resurrection Remix 7.1.2 if you like the look and cleaned from any xiaomi apps, else try xiaomi.eu MIUI ROM, or MIUIpro rom for unbloated software with good performance and battery life. without sacrificing features.

Not really. Try to get used to one. I'd recommend miuipro or xiaomi.eu rom if you want to stick to MIUI. If you want to try AOSP Nougat, I highly recommend official Resurrection Remix 7.1.2. On Oreo, I dont know, you could try Pixel Experience or Nitrogen. But I recommend sticking to Nougat, either MIUI or AOSP.
ok i understand! i think i'll gonna try miui rom.eu and Kernel Clarity, they seems interesting! and for AOSP did you mean This?
Well if you are just a casual user, i would recommend you to stay with the latest official miui rom. Its the most stable, fast and snappy rom for this device. Its ui is similar to iOS.
As Far as bloatware is concerned, if you can unlock its bootloader, boot(not flash) twrp through pc, flash magisk and then uninstall all bloatware.
Else just put them all in one folder and cut off background data for them.
I personally won't recommend you to flash custom rom unless you want to taste pure Android ui because custom roms are not as refined as official roms.
Rest is upto you!

yes and no. If a custom kernel is providing you a feature which is very essential for your usage(like fast charging or something), you can go ahead. Else there is no problem with stock one.
Another thing is stock kernel is GENERALLY safe from technical viewpoint. Custom kernels may/may not be safe because some of them just experiment with the device's voltage and other essential values which were earlier optimised scientifically. Flashing those may not be safe at all. So do your research really really well before flashing anything custom coz they might damage your device (that's rare, but still!)
---------- Post added at 02:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 AM ----------
Also, whether you step into this flashing world or not, never forget to backup your stock system, boot, efs and recovery. I have had experiences where my device just got dead without any reason. And that too without tampering anything. Everything stock with no flashing and locked bootloader.
Try AOSP ROM for pure android experience. (I'm using AOSP Extended with Oreo 8.1, work like a charm!)
finally my phone has arrived and i figured out that i bought a redmi NOTE 4x...to which section do i refer on this forum? the redmi note 4 or redmi 4x?
By the way i have a miui global 9.5 and i like it, very fast and smart! i don't see "chinese bloatware", what did you mean exactly?

Mi9 noob - Unlocked, now which ROM to use?

Hi all,
First up, I have been running 3rd party ROMs on my old Sony Z2 for years (TWRP with Cyanogen then LineageOS).
So i'm semi-experienced with running other ROMs.
I have a Mi 9 global currently running the latest stable official Global MIUI.
The bloat and calling-home by the Xiaomi stock apps is ridiculous, so want off ASAP.
Ideally I'm after a very lightweight, stripped down version of Android with OpenGApps Pico (or equiv).
All hardware working would be a bonus (losing IR and NFC isnt a deal-breaker. Need BT working though).
So what would you guys recommend I run?
Thanks in advance
xiaomi.eu
I bought my mi 9 before 1 week and yesterday I unlocked the bootloader and installed Xiaomi eu , I'm very happy with it and i got 9h of Screen Time on.
I'm in same position as the OP. Waiting 6 more days before I can unlock and also keeping a close eye on the stability of Pixel Experience rom. Currently using it on a Samsung S7 so that will be my first choice.
Xiaomi.eu or Revolution OS are both great Miui roms.
Pixel Experience isn't stable enough for you I guess. But in future it will.
hello friends I have a problem when I unlock my 9 install the twrp that says on the page xiaomi.eu and I liked the rom and wanting to update to 9.6.13 try to enter the twrp and I can not appear the black screen and restart to the rom that I currently have from xiaomi.eu 9.6.5 someone can help me.

I replied to your other post.
Revolution OS > xiaomi.eu (if you don't like constant Softwareupdates - in case you debloat one of those & install magisk mods).
I don't say xiaomi.eu is bad, but I'd prefere to not update my smartphone unnecessarily ("never thouch a running system").

Looking for a *stable* ROM

Hey guys!
I'm a very recent owner of Mi 9T Pro (less than 24h remaining until unlock becomes available). I'm also a recent consumer (if that's the right word for it) in the custom ROM scene. About a week ago I decided to check out LineageOS 16.0 on my old (Android 4.4.2) phone, and I was blown away by the performance improvement. It really gave my old device a second wind.
So when it comes to my new Mi 9T Pro, the long term strategy is almost certainly to install the official version of LineageOS 17.0 as soon as it becomes available (if at all and boy do I hope it does). However, since the official release might be (as I understand) several months away, it leaves me with a time window to use some other ROM until then. I've checked out LineageOS 16, 17, HavocOS 2.8, 3.0 & Pixel Experience ROM threads in this forum. It appears they all have some or other issues.
And this is where I was hoping to get a suggestion from you guys. What I'm interested in is the most stable ROM currently available for this phone. To be more clear, I'll illustrate what I mean by "stable":
1) Novelty not required.
It doesn't have to be Android 10 necessarily. Stability > novelty.
2) Most commonly used features take precedence.
I would certainly prefer a lag-less UI and no issues with signal reception over working NFC and Bluetooth audio (all 4 issues seem to appear with some regularity in mentioned threads).
Well, that's basically it, I hope you get the gist of it. If not I'll be glad to clarify further.
Just to be clear, I'm really not looking for a perfect solution where there is none. Just the least painful one. MIUI is not an option.
Thank you!
P.S. Sorry if this is a dup. I only managed to find a handful of outdated questions (~2 months old) which had very little engagement to begin with.
I use crDroid 5.8 (5.9 build does not work with global fw &vendor) and all the android 10 ROMs besides LOS 17 have broken NFC and BT .. And los 17 is also not perfect. Slows down after a while. We just have to wait till every K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro version gets stable MIUI 11. Right now android 10 is not daily drive ready.
I'm using Résurrection Remix with the same build for over 2 month (the last one), and i dont have any bug.
I'm dtarting to have some troubleshootings after 2-3 weeks and it only require to restart to get fixed.
Also i'm not a big user of the phone so at the end of the day there is 70% battery left!

First of all, thank you for your input!
But what about Android 9 based ROMs like LOS16, Havoc-OS 2.8, Pixel Experience etc.? Wouldn't they be more stable based on the fact that Android 9 was already out (for quite some time) when K20 Pro was released? And also because the developers have simply had more time to iron out the issues?

I have basically tried every rom there is on this forum, and multiple vendors, roms later, i can suggest that EvolutionX, Pixel experience plus (pie are both pretty stable. But they have minor issues. Definitely daily driver material.
But! in my suggestion, if you could stick to a debloated MIUI. It would be hassle free.
Pros for using the stock rom.
Fingerprint sensor works faster
Doesn't break safetynet, so.. google pay support.
widevine L1 in other cases.
And most importantly, the camera functionality doesnt break

Thank you very much for your (somewhat unexpected) suggestion!
To be honest, I hadn't really considered debloating, but I will most certainly look into it. Are there some preferred debloating solutions out there?

Follow the steps in the Removing Bloatwares in Locked/Unlocked Bootloader part of the first post in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
True, MIUI has way faster and better fingerprint recognition than all custom roms. Sadly I hate MIUI look and feel...
If you want to give MIUI a try, install the xiaomi eu ROM, which is pretty clean and without much preinstalled stuff.
Best is not to use the custom ROMs with ALL the features, since those ROMs are more laggy and buggy.
So if custom ROMs, try android 9 based. I will flash android 10 again only after 2-3 builds which use MIUI 11 firmware and vendor, since I do have a global K20 Pro/ Mi 9T Pro and don't want to lose DRM L1 or NFC by flashing IN or CN fw and vendor. Because most android 10 ROMs require MIUI 10 android 10 fw and vendor (and there is no global MIUI 10 android 10 fw & vendor)
So depends after all, how much you hate MIUI.
I flashed a custom ROM because of the following things
clean stock UI
no gapps
better everyday performance

So.. the simple trick is to flash chinese vendor miui 10.3.16..
Mine in an indian unit.. and flashing any vendor except the chinese one gives me some sort of error or bootloop..
So.. my process is..
1- unlock bootloader
2-flash recovery (orangefox or twrp)
3- boot into revovery
4-wipe system
5- flash vendor
6- flash rom (gapps if necessary)
7- wipe cache
8- reboot

I guess so.. and sorry brother.. i dont use telegram..
I'd suggest you stick to global vendor..
If it doesn't work, then try chinese..
Widevine is not an issue for me.. but you might stream HD content.. so.. look into it..
And i forgot to mention... Always format data before rebooting.. format data is different from wipe data.. keep that in mind..
You should stick to the process.. it should go flawlessly..

Question Is there no OS that really stable for this phone?!

I've tried MIUI 12 and 13, they're both trash!! There must be some shortage for each version!! Even the last version of MIUI 12!! Come on Xiaomi!!
Actually I like the hardware, but the OS???!!!
Any body could give me a suggestion for which OS is the most stable??
MMX custom rom, debloated, still based on MIUI
i m Wait pixel experience stock rom without root.
If u want performace, i will suggest oxygen os or if u have a low end phone, you can try roms of other devices having same chipset as yours. but u need to modify them a bit.
MIUI is terrible, yeah.
I recently switched to PixelExperience GSI and it's pretty good.
Auto brightness is a bit finicky and logging into your Google account can be annoying if you use SMS for 2FA, because SMS don't work by default (it's just one switch in settings).
But there are no crashes and it's way less buggy than stock.

GSIs (Generic System Images) are universal for all devices supporting Treble. All devices released with Android 9 and later are required to support it.
"Classic" ROMs are built for specific device only.
Here's a guide on how to install one:
How to install custom roms (GSI) 11T > Pro
How to install a gsi onto your Mi 11t > Pro This will wipe your phone and I'm not responsible for any bricked device's. you can always go back to stock and try again. Clean install suggested! 1.0 Start with downloading things Latest...

The is an urgent need for a good software
I´m having crashes and reboots like every hour since I got MIUI 12.5
Does anyone else have this problem?
Would you recommend to flash the firmware again or to go with a Custom Rom?

Never had this problem with this version.
Try to reset the phone.
Flash firmware with Miflash.
Flash a Xiaomi EU rom.
Waiting for paranoid for 11tpro, as of now magisk is not working normal so switched to Stock OS
If I were you, I prefer flash custom rom like: Xiaomi.EU
Much more stable!!
