[APPS][8.0] New Moto Display from Moto Z Play! - X Play Themes and Apps

Good news for Stock Motorola devices.
The newest moto apps are available and most of them work with Lux on Nougat.

My experience:
NOTE: I am on stock nougat build with custom Squid R22c kernel.
The following apps worked:
1. Contacts: I don't know why will it not!
2. FM Radio: Though I didn't see any significant changes yet.
3. Moto Display: This app is smooth! Except the landscape thing people are talking about, notification dots work. The LCD back-light fade in and out looks better with this version. No more abrupt brightness changes. The trigger is also better, even better than the original moto display back in the marshmallow days IMO. I rate it a 5/5 in my daily usage.
4. File Manager: Yes, it worked but no I didn't use it because I have solid explorer purchased.
5. Moto App launcher: The homescreen has no bugs but the google now feed doesn't work. (Just use the pixel launcher port, they're mostly similiar)
What crashed:
1. Moto App: It installed sucessfully but said device unsupported.
2. Camera: It didn't install on my device.
N.B. Strangely the moto display failed(Installed well but broke the lock button) on a Moto E4 plus on Mediatek SoC. The previous APK from the moto X4 did work well with it.

Does it have to be a stock ROM? And not maybe LineageOS?
How did you activate it?

I tested them on a stock ROM, it just replaced the stock moto apps.
As I think lineage OS doesn't natively support moto ennhancements, It may not work. But can you bring the attention of this to the developers? They might be able to port it to other Lineage Based ROMs.

CM11 & acDisplay / Dynamic Notifications Apps

Hey everyone,
I unlocked my boot loader, rooted, and flashed CM11 on my Moto X a couple days ago. I am only missing the Active Display feature from stock and wanted to replace it with something from the play store. I am running into a problem with both acDisplay and Dynamic Notifications apps. They both work when I get notifications, however do not work at all when set to "active mode". They should be using proximity and motion sensors to imitate how the Moto X normally operates. Does anyone know a way to get them to work similar to how they are "advertised" to work?
I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your issue..
But I wanted to say, any app that mimics Active Display will take a great toll on your battery life. Active display is designed to use an extremely small amount of battery on the Moto X.... Any other app will not be so battery friendly.
This is why the majority of users stick to stock, with Xposed and Gravity Box for customization.... Or use stock based roms, that have the unique moto features in them.

In not seeing where either of those apps claim to use the sensors in a similar way as stock active display. Where do you see that they are advertised to do so?
Edit: scratch that. I do see that acdisplay claims to use the sensors.... Not sure why it isn't working for you.
@KJ is correct that they will use much more battery than stock AD, which takes advantage of the low voltage components of the X.

[Q] any ROM utilizing Motorola low-power processor for notifications?

Hi,
as seen from Motorola Android 5.1 release notes, only Moto Active Display utilizes special low-power processor for displaying notifications, but Ambient display feature, that is built-in Lolipop and CM12 mods doesn't use that advantage. My question is: are there any ROMs that are able to utilize it, except of stock-based ROMs? Maybe someone has managed to get Moto drivers for this processor and include it in their ROM?
Thanks,
a.
None, sorry. Only stock based roms.
as you can see in this gerrit review doze package was added to cm12.1 which can access moto sensors to detect pickup and other stuff. i dont know if it uses the low power sensors for detection.
Thanks! I wish they were able to do that, I really don't want notifications to drain the battery, that is why I'm still on rooted stock KitKat

Moto Display + AOSP ? (always wondered this)

Does anyone know if I would get the benefits of Motorola's proprietary drivers used by Moto Display if I simply installed an AOSP ROM and then installed the Moto Display on top of it?
Well that's not really a thing, since those drivers are embedded in the stock firmware. Same for Moto Voice.
Ambient display and OK Google are really not worth the hassle of trying to make them work like Moto software, cause they can't.

Moto Display Possible on CM?

Hello XDA!
I was wondering if its possible to install and run the original Moto Display application on my device. My device is a Moto X 2014 (Pure Edition) running Cyanogenmod 14.1. I have tried alternatives such as DynamicNotifications, ACDisplay, and Cyanogenmod's own Ambient display, but none compared to how Moto Display feels. I've tried installing the application from the Play Store but once I open the "Display" portion of the Moto app, the app crashes and goes to the main screen. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks again and I look forward to my first XDA Thread.
Hi man!
I get that this is your first thread, but this has been discussed a million times. You'll never get Moto Display or Voice on any ROM that is not stock. They're closed source apps and there's nothing we can do about it, not even workarounds because the lads at Google are greedy bast*rds which have hijacked most of the features in Android, the most notable one being, guess what, voice control.

Thanks for your help. I am sad that its a close sourced app but I guess there's nothing I can do about it. Thanks you for assisting me in this matter.:good:
You're welcome I also used CM14 for some time until I realised that workarounds for Display weren't the same thing, that replicating Voice functionality was a lost cause, and that I needed some Xposed-related features for my job (such as disabling the proximity sensor).
I settled on stock 6.0 with N-ify and N Navbar, which do a pretty good job at making this phone feel up-to-date.
It's a setup I would suggest to anyone looking for a feature-minded compromise, even if multiwindow is absent and quick reply only works to a certain extent.

Question Can't find nor install Moto Actions

Hello,
I can't find moto actions on my Moto Edge 20 with LineageOS 19.1 official, and I can't install it from the play store neither, since it claims that it is not compatible with my device.
I was used to have it under settings on other Motorola phones and previous versions of LineageOS.
Is this something expected on this build or model?
Thanks in advance.
Moto Actions needs to be ported and made compatible by the maker of the rom. LoS official doesn't ship with any OEM proprietary feature from what I can tell. Sometimes unofficial builds of LOS have proprietary features integrated, but not the official one.
Thanks, it's clear now.
However, I got the manufacturer's Moto Camera App bundled with LineageOS image (com.motorola.camera3).
Do you know if there is any way to install the manufacturer Moto Actions App available on the Play Store?
Thanks again.
It depends on the device I guess. For example, on my old OnePlus3, LoS came with the regular LoS camera (which was god awful btw) instead of the OnePlus camera. On my Sony XZ1 Compact, the maker of the unofficial port of LoS managed to integrate the Sony camera and all of its libraries so it worked just as well as on the stock rom, unfortunately they were only compatible with Android 10 but not Android 11, so for the build of LoS on Android 11, the stock camera had to be removed and it came with the crappy LoS Camera.
When it comes to these proprietary features, it all depends on the maker of the rom and the compatibility of stock libraries with LoS, just like the example above with the Camera. As for the possibility of integrating Moto into LoS, you'd have to ask the LoS devs because to control system level features like gestures and so on it requires system libraries to be ported and integrated into LoS.
