[Q] [XT1072] Recovery black screen

Hey guys, I'm having a weird little problem here.
So I followed this guide here, unlocked my bootloader, everything fine.
So far so good. I flashed the mentioned TWRP Recovery through fastboot, no error messages, still looks like everything's fine.
But whenever I try to get from the fastboot screen on my phone into recovery mode, the screen stays black.
I tried restoring to stock, hoping that would add the original recovery back in. Nope, still black screen.
After that, I successfully flashed the recovery from this thread. Again, no error messages and everything looked fine. But still no luck. My recovery screen stays black for whatever reason.
I'm on Windows 8.1 64Bit and using the current Android SDK. The SDK setup had a little problem with finding Java JDK (64Bit) before I could set it up properly. But I solved that one by adding a system variable. Again, nothing out of the ordinary here, at least as far as I understand.
So what am I doing wrong?
I'd really like to get a custom rom with root on this baby. Don't wanna be stuck on stock. :/
Does anybody have an idea, how I could manage to access any kind of recovery in this case?

If the screen stay black then something went wrong
Fastboot gave you the OKAY on flashing ? Did you reboot your phone after you flashed the recovery ?
You don't have to, if you reboot you will have the stock one again = black screen.
Try like i did (assuming you correctly unlocked the bootloader, and installed MotorolaDeviceManager).
1) Get the right recovery for XT1072 from the author's post HERE.
2) Download the latest CM rom from HERE and latest CM gapps package from HERE.
3)Move the CM rom and the gapps zips on the SD or EMMC then reboot to bootloader.
4)Flash the recovery whit "fastboot flash recovery twrp-thea.img" and check if you got the OKEY from fastboot (DO NOT REBOOT YET).
5)Now pick up your phone and use VOL-DOWN to highlight RECOVERY then VOL-UP to start the recovery.
6)You should have the TWRP menu open now, go WIPE -> ADVANCED WIPE and check Dalvik/Data/Cache/System then swipe to wipe those 4 partitions.
7)Go back to main menu and select install, flash the CM12.1 zip then gapps zip and now you can reboot, first boot take a while so don't panic.

I uploaded for you the latest untouched platform-tools folder (rev22) for windows if you wish to try this one, LINK, VirusTotal scan.

Can't install TWRP on S3 mini (GT-i8190N)

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Cyanogenmod following techbeasts.com tutorial but I'm stuck at the first step : installingTWRP (or CWM).
I followed precisely all the instructions (I allow debugging mode, I installed samsung drivers, I start the phone in download mode, I connect it with OEM cable, I start Odin, it sees the phone, I select the tar.md5 file.), Odin confirms it went well (green box writing "PASS"), but when I try to boot the recovery mode by holding Volume up + Home + Power it seems to boot another recovery software that doesn't offer a backup or a flashing options: "Android system recovery <3e>"
Can't get it to run TWRP or CWM... Can't install the supersu package.
What I'm I doing wrong? Can someone help?

Try to untick Auto Reboot option from odin. I had similiar issues and reason was if you have updated your phone with OTA-updates then it installs some kind of backup script. When your phone boots again after you had installed twrp it installs stock recovery during boot. So untick autoreboot, flash twrp and force boot straight to recovery without letting phone boot to OS. You can also try to pull battery out, put it back and then boot into recovery mode.
Sorry my english and try to understand.

Great it worked, thanks a lot !
But now I'm stuck on the next step : flashing CM11
I rooted my phone, booted TWRP, chose "install>cm11" (the zip downloaded from nova fusion) but it says "failed" after a few sec...
I would post my TWRP log but the forum prevents me doing so...

Well I get few things that you could check first.
1. Do factory reset for example from twrp. Factory reset is needed/recommended before installing custom rom from offical OS.
2. Sometimes just installing fails almost immediately if you have ticked check zip signature.
After you have installed new rom clear cache and davilk cache just in case. I'll do that every time if I install or update custom roms. Also don't forget to install right gapps package after you have installed rom.

[SOLVED] Stuck into TWRP 3.0.4-0

Hi,
Due to an unsuccessful decryption during the boot process, I had to format data.
I pushed a custom ROM to my phone and flashed it from TWRP.
I can't reboot to Android now. Each time I try to reboot I go back to TWRP...
How to solve it?

try this
n your ROM, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options.
Now go to Settings -> Developer options. (above About device)
You need to enable OEM unlock, otherwise you might end up with boot problems or be unable to flash later on.
Reboot your device into fastboot mode. To do this, select reboot from the power menu and hold the [Volume Up] + [Power] buttons while your device reboots or boots from power off.
Once you're in fastboot mode, you need to unlock your bootloader. To do this, run the command:
fastboot oem unlock
WARNING: Unlocking your bootloader will erase all userdata on the device! Your device will be completely reset to factory defaults!
Once your bootloader is unlocked, you're ready to flash TWRP. To do this, run the command (replacing twrp.img with the actual image name):
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Once the image is flashed, you should use your volume keys to navigate to RECOVERY and the press the power key to select it.
At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
By swiping right, you will trigger dm-verity, and if you don't follow the next step you will be unable to boot!
If you are going to root your device and follow the rest of these steps, then it is safe to swipe right and enable modifications.
If your device asks for a password to mount internal storage, and your password doesn't work or you haven't set one, see below under known issues for a fix!
If you want to be rooted with SuperSU:
Download the latest SuperSU Stable by Chainfire.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer the SuperSU zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.

If you want to be rooted with something else or just want a bootable system:
Download the latest dm-verity and forced encryption disabler zip.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer the no-verity-opt-encrypt zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
This will also allow you to use [Format Data] to completely disable your encryption if desired.
Go to [Reboot] -> [System].

This is the TWRP thread... How can it help in my situation?
I flashed the dm-verity and forced encryption disabler zip, wiped all data and a custom rom. It doesn't help.

In twrp: Advanced->Terminal
In Terminal type wipe_misc and press enter. Reboot to system.
EDIT: this erases misc partition by dding /dev/zero to misc partition. (I've tested both, wipe_misc sceipt as well as dd by hand - it's safe; you will not loose anything [if there would be something on data... SCNR ])

Already tried. Is there something else to do after entering this command? (wipe data, flash rom again..)
EDIT: flashing the stock recovery and full 4.0.2 OTA might help?

Stay on twrp (3.0.3-1). Wipe art, system, data and cache. Flash full 4.0.2. Go to twrphome->mount and check if system is unmounted (*)- if so: boot to system; if system is mounted reboot to recovery and dirty flash (without any wipe) full 4.0.2 again; boot to system.
Whenever I had this boot to recovery but not to system, wipe_misc was allways sufficient.
BTW: disconnect usb before rebooting. otg-sticks as well charger result sometimes in unpredictable reboot behavior.
(*) I've still not found what's triggering this, but if after flashing system is mounted, you can't boot directly into system, and twrp tells you on reboot, that no system is installed, even if you just flashed a rom...

I ran into a similar problem with mine yesterday / today with 3.0.4-0....after countless tests, it came down to holding down the power button for 20s and releasing (hard shut down)...wait 20s, hold power for it to come back on, ROM loaded up.
I tried every boot option from TWRP, and just kept looping.
Give this a try, as trivial as it seems, fixed it for me.

I've flashed Tesla ROM and the phone boots. I'm charging my phone to enable encryption then I'll see how to set a boot password (without any issues this time lol).

I set a password to encrypt my data and flashed TWRP 3.0.1-0 again.
I'm not able to decrypt my data in TWRP...
After a reboot, the ROM doesn't recognize my password anymore. I'm fed up with encryption!

imo just the unbrick tool to go back to fully stock and start the whole process again

I had this issue with the password.
I had to flash the stock recovery, go into stock recovery, it will ask you for the password, just choose forgot password and it will prompt to format everything. Click yes to accept. After it formats, flash the custom twrp recovery. Once it flashes, load recovery and flash the 3.5.4 bootloader here:

Thanks but I'll just enjoy my phone for now. Encryption can wait.
Only these two fastboot commands will avoid the wrong password issue? It seems to be helpful to remove the dm-verity error and I don't have it.

Sorry I guess I misinterpreted the issue. I thought that the dm-verity and the encryption issue were somehow linked. Anyway, the first few steps I took with flashing the stock recovery and wiping everything from stock recovery is what fixed the immediate encryption issue for me.

K3 Note bootlooping to TWRP only

I had Resurrection rom installed in my K3 note and needed to sell the phone. So performed a complete wipe of the internal storage and tried to install AICP rom later (TWRP), it shows flashed successfully, but whenever I am booting my phone, it always boots to recovery only. Downloaded the SP flash tool to go back to stock rom with stock firmware, but as soon as I plug my phone woth my laptop with the USB cable, (which is switched off at this moment) after clicking the download option in the SP Flash tool, it just again boots back to recovery and the stock firmware's download never happens because my phone has booted into recovery. So i guess no use of SP Flash tool too.
I am able to connect my phone to my laptop and can see my internal storage and i can transfer files too.
Any help,?
Current rom flashed via TWRP - AICP v4.2 and Gapps micro (arm 64, pico) (Still stuck in booloop to TWRP only )

I am having the same issue! I've selected to restore factory settings and bam, it boots only to TWRP, I've tried to flash it with new rr rom (09.2017) but it is without any improvement still TWRP.
I think I'll try to do things like I did when changing it from stock model.

1. Reflash using SPFlashtool ONLY the stock recovery
2. boot into stock recovery
3. choose english > press reboot phone
4. phone will reboot into rom without problemos
5. reflash TWRP

Lets start
1- in stock roms maybe work on custom roms
2-boot in to download mode and flash vbmeta.tar via odin in ap
3-after that reboot to recovery by pressing vol+ and power and clear data and cache in stock recovery
4- reboot again in to download mod and now flash twrp via odin in ap
5-reboot to twrp recovery by pressing vol+ and power and slide right to modify. Click wipe, click format data, type yes after that go back and reboot to recovery. slide right to modify, click mount, if mount system partition read-only is checked, back out and reboot back to recovery and check mount again, it should now be unchecked. . Now click Vendor so its checked and system should be unchecked, back out.
6- Copy Magisk 20.1 to the External sd card. In TWRP click install, select storage and choose micro sd card, click on magisk and slide right to confirm. (you must have vendor checked in mount or it wont flash properly). when done, click all way back click reboot to download.
7- now flash stcok recovery tar file via odin and reboot your device to system
8-after your device start run Magisk and update it by install options
well done you have twrp and rooted device :fingers-crossed::good::fingers-crossed:
i think this method work on all new samsung device and just you have own your device file like
twrp /stock recovery /vbmeta
note : if your twrp Stuck on twrp logo you have to install stock recovery and repeat from step 2

Hi thanks for the reply. But the day before i read this post, i flashed the latest firmware from sammobile which is the rom i told in the post (BTC2). Doesnt latest firmware include latest BL? Where can i find the current version of my BL in my phone?

Try again flash 4 file frimware and let device start to system after that reboot to download mod and flash vbmeta.tar and let your device start to system
After that reboot to stock recovery and wipdata and cach and reboot to download mod and now flash twrp
The wrong is with your bootloader if you cant fix it try to search your problem in google

I did every thing from scratch. Even lock and unlock the bootloader.
I am tring to make sence. Vbmeta is "verified boot". So the idea is trick the phone with our own bootloader so that we can flash twrp.
Since i cant flash twrp, vbmeta should be updated.
Am i right?

Unlock bootloader, factory reset, unsure oem is unlocked and grayed out in settings >developer options.
Then flash vbmeta, manual reboot to download mode, flash twrp, boot to twrp, factory reset in twrp , flash magisk zip then factory reset again, now boot system.
The vbmeta you flash is empty and allows flashing third party zips.

Go ahead with the steps. Ignore mount system.
Let's see what happens
Worst scenario, you soft brick the phone or bootloop which can be fixed by flashing stock rom again.
Make sure you have stock rom and you backup your data

Any way to pass SatefyNet?
