About the LED Icon Editor app for the LED case - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello. I just got a Note 8 with the Samsung LED case. So far, I'm loving both and the case looks so beautiful. However, the icon creating app, 'LED Icon Editor', is not very good. It's quite difficult to draw the icons if you're not very good at drawing (I suck).
Here's the interface:

Has anybody find any app or online guide that can be useful to design different icons. For instance, I use WhatsApp a lot, and so far, every attempt to draw the WhatsApp icon has been a total failure so I'm just using a W, which also was not very easy to draw. So I used something like this as a guide but it won't work for icons just letters and common symbols
The guide I've been using:
Another issue I have is that if I reset or flash my phone, I will lose all my custom icons. Is there any way to backup the data for this app without root? (I'm thinking maybe backing up a particular folder).
Thanks.

I would also like to see what others have done. I have created a few custom icons for simple things like email and twitter. I tried doing one for snapchat and it never turned out good so I just gave up.

mub51 send me a couple of icons

These are the ones I have created.

I started to play with this, but it seems you can only set it for certain contacts. Is there another place you can set it per app? For example, 1 for any texts, 1 for emails, etc.

Yes this is possible. You can choose contacts , next to that you can choose apps. Look at my uploads and click on the word next to 'personen'

Apparently you can't set it to the text app though? I see multiple apps listed, but no texts apps are in that list. Same with the Phone app.

That is correct. However you could try selecting contacts. I do not now if this will work.
For messaging, you could try to download a third party messaging app and give permission to the app to receive all messages, then you could select that app and give it a different led icon.
This is all in theory I did not check it for you.
Let me know if it works

I tried selecting all the contacts, but it only lets you select up to 100 contacts per icon.
The 3rd party messaging apps do not show on the list either.
Alas, it seems that this may not be a possibility.

Hello all!
please can you help me? how can we backup the icons that we made with the Led Icon Editor app?
many thanks

[REQ]Icons for mail/messages

Okay so I was browsing this forum a while back and I remember coming across a thread/post that had multiple icons for notifications, e.g an icon for gmail and then an icon when you get a few mails etc
I can't seem to find that again despite busting my ass looking for it
So I was wondering if something like that actually exists and if it's possible to use icons like that via bettercut/folderorg lite? I have a HTC Desire so unfortunately metamorph is out of the question...

5noc, yes!
But not for launcherpro/ADW launcher. I'd like to be able to stick it on the homescreen.
Though if you can guide me the way of icons of that fashion that I can use in docks too I'd appreciate it tremendously!

In my Hero the stock SMS icon when placed in the homescreen does that without any modification, running stock 2.1, then again it may be because of Sense, I don't know
What you see in my screenshot is LauncherPro, to customize the icons of your dock just create a folder in your SD called "Custom" or whatever you like and put there the icons, for that screenshot I used the RoughDraft icons founs in MacThemes (http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16803227), they already have transparency so you only have to copy-paste the ones you want into the SD folder.
Next press the icon in your LauncherPro dock that you want to change and select "Change icon" from the menu that will pop up, open the Gallery and select the icon you want
When you are done, if you create a blank file in the folder where you have the icons and rename it to ".nomedia" without the quotes, the images inside that folder (the icons you're using for the dock) won't apear no more in the gallery when you open it to see your camera pictures.

A simple icon can not do that, it would have to be either built into the launcher or it would need to be a widget (Handcent has that). They might have some widgets on the market

That would be considered Warez, no? It is a paid font, and cost upwards of $150 USD.

For all whom might be interested in such a thing I found this in the nexus one forums. Credit goes to one stick.e. First (optional), if you want to save your settings (thanks decalex) using root explorer go to /data/data/com.handcent.nextsms/shared_prefs and copy the com.handcent.nextsms_preferences.xml to a safe location on your computer or sd card. Secondly, remove all things handcent on your phone incl. Font packs, plugins, etc. Install as a regular app. Lastly, restore the .xml you copied earlier (if you did it, duh) then change the theme to hero and the style to black and reboot. Now you'll have a sweet handcent with blacked out popups and the message screen shows through to your (live maybe?) Wallpaper.

Awesome thanks running now.
Is there a newer version for a newer Handcent, 3.5.3 I think?
this looks really freakin nice. Thanks for posting.
I was gonna dive into the data/data folder to see if there was an easy way to restore my previous settings (like ringtones assigned to contacts, bubble colors, font sizes.. etc etc). Anyone able to restore their old setup yet while retaining this new version? I'll edit post if/when I figure it out .. fwiw
EDIT:
Sweet.. this worked-- for anyone has super customized their handcent settings (like I have). Someone could probably automate this with a batch, but it's not rocket science:
I use Root Explorer
BEFORE uninstalling your current version, go to:
data/data/com.handcent.nextsms/shared_prefs/
Copy: com.handcentnextsms_preferences.xml to your SDCard.
Uninstall your current handcent version, install the new version.
Copy the backed up xml from your SDCard back to data/data/com.handcent.nextsms/shared_prefs/
Then reboot (which will fix permissions, etc). All seems to work fine though and saved all of my settings.

How do you get the live wallpaper in the background? I only see image and color as options for the background. Thanks!
Edit: I see that you just see your live wallpaper in the settings if you have one set. I thought you guys meant that you could choose a live wallpaper as the background for both the conversation and chat backgrounds...
ya-- it basically just makes the window background transparent, so you see through to the other side.

Remove messagewidget from Lockscreen?

Hi,
I'm using GO SMS on my mobile, instead of the built in SMS app.
The widget on the lockscreen (unfortunally; I'm not able to capture screenshots with this phone) shows me "unread messages count" because i dont use the built in app. How can i remove this widget?
Its enoying
Edit: Phone is rooted!

I would like to know this as well >_>
you can freeze the message app with titanium backup.
sometimes the message on the lockscreen comes back though... then you have to defrost, open message app, and then freeze again.
Hope a better solution comes up.

Would be cooler if Go SMS could actually "take over" that widget and show its message count instead . Then it would actually be useful.
Would like to sort this out too. I guess a replacement lockscreen could work?
It does. Or you can uninstall or freeze the mms.apk in system/app/ - but I lost a few messages then, they dissapeared after I had read them. Tho all the messages from before I uninstalled was still there; so remember to backup both SMS/MMS and mms.apk before in case of emergency.
I have the past days found a setting in GO SMS that i can “check“ if the stock mms.apk is uninstalled, so that might have been the problem that I didn't. So try to toggle that checkbox.

This setting in GO SMS Pro. Have now removed stock mms.apk and enabled this setting. Seems like everything works great now.
Sent from my talk i tapeten
Heed that warning though...
If you remove mms.apk you will inevitably run into problems sending/receiving msgs
mine doesn't always show 'x messages received', 90 out of 100 times it doesn't show... My question is how to get it working again. I'm using the stock sms application
Getting rid of the message notification with GO SMS PRO.
I solved this in another manner:
installed widgetlocker and message center and created my own lock screen which BTW is nicer then stock.
Edit: here are a couple screenshots, the first with message center, the second with executive assistant
solution...
so,
after I tried it at CyanogenMod 4x... and the system crashed, I tried it at RC1 again:
deinstall with Titanium Backup the point: SMS/MMS 2.3.4 ... and enable the option "Let GO SMS handle incoming message ONLY" you will never see the 45 SMS or less... or more... at notification or LockScreen...
nice evening
I saw, that the work around is already posted... sorry, but it works great!

I like it because it changes with my theme. using Google Calendar is just as easy to use as S Planner is though. it's too bad there isn't a widget for it though. I still always end up using Jorte as usual.

AT&T in the U.S. renamed it Calendar but it's still S Planner. If it's completely missing it might be a regional thing. Use an app like Shortcut Maker and see if you can find it in your phone's apps and activities. It may be there but hidden and you can use a shortcut to you make to launch it.

I see calendar and it's fine, just your typical Google cal. I've searched all my apps (I am on Verizon by the way) and there is no s planner. There is no button at the top or anywhere for screen write. I'd imagine I could get the .apk from an at&t device, no?

If you're talking about being able to add hand written comments on week view that's gone. A casualty of Samsung's de-bloating efforts. You can still ink but it's not as broad as it used to be. For example, if you press a date on the calendar with the S Pen this pop-up appears. You can handwrite your meeting in to it but it auto-coverts to text.

Man, they got rid of one of my favorite features! Idiots! Thanks for the replies, sir.
I can't believe this is gone!!

Question Android chat bubbles option missing in apps on Samsung devices?

Is this a Samsung thing where they intentionally butchered this feature except for in their own messaging app? Floating bubbles is set in the notification settings but when I search for the option in Facebook Messenger, all I get is the option for the crappy chat heads. On my Pixel 6, I can set this option. I even tried copying over the exact apk that is working from the Pixel to the Samsung phone and the option is still not there.

No, the bubbles option. In Settings -> Notifications -> Advanced Settings -> Floating notifications there are 3 options: Off, Bubbles, and the one you have in your screenshot. I am wanting bubbles so that all my conversations across all my apps are grouped together. I have bubbles enabled in that settings menu but the option still doesn't show for me in any app besides Samsung Messages.

Sorry, it's disorienting when you lose your preferred IU... I know.
I hate that interface... so I was happy to ditch it.
Can't even find it now, I may have package disabled it almost 2 years ago.
Not sure if it can do what you want.
Play with it... Samsung's are very customizable.

That particular option does what I want on phones made from different manufacturers. It seems Samsung is blocking it somewhere. I was hoping that someone would have some idea of what package blocks it so I can disable that. Perhaps that is just something that will never work, kind of like visual voicemail in the native phone app on a Samsung deice.
Why not just use Google's Messaging app, which has these features and is also pre-installed?
I couldn't easily see what is Samsung's or Google's Messages App ('Berichten' in Dutch), but both were included with OneUI 4.0. See attached picture: left is Google right is Samsung Messaging. Google allows attachments.

You are right, I didn't understand the Bubble thing. Should have read better. Also I think I mixed up your thread with other in S21 + forum
Haven't tested in OneUI 4, but bubbles for FB Messenger / Signal did work for me back in OneUI 3.
Besides setting Floating notifications - Bubbles, also try FB Messenger - App info - Notifications - Notification categories - Show as bubbles - All / Selected only.
Supported apps also seem to have a little icon in the notification, I assume it allows bubbles for that specific conversation.
