Caffeine like app or mod? - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I opened this topic as I did not find an easy way to prevent the screen to sleep when I read some news or anything else. (I mean avoiding to go through the lockscreen settings each time and change the sleep time)
It's very annoying to not have this feature nowadays in MIUI 9 ! I have tried all kinds of caffeine apps on the playstore, without success
There must be something not implemented within miui that prevents those apps to work.
Guys, did you experience the same on your side and is there a workaround or a working mod?
Thanks in advance

Well, Apparently I'm the only one who cares if it bothers me ! Every single rom since CM13 has this feature with a tile but the developers by MIUI have decided else.
Just wish this would be implemented natively but hum, wait and see if it comes with the next builds (hopefully)...

Yes, It can get annoying from time to time, having to touch the screen to keep it alive. I did try to find some apps but couldn't find any to get the job done.
Although, I do use this app called "Stream" (just google Stream app, it's the first app displayed) it's like a pop out player for Youtube, the size of the player is considerably small and yes it keeps my phone from going to sleep, so yeah listening to music and reading things. Gets the job done for me

Thanks xinie for your input
For info, I share with you a working app that keeps the screen on: No Screen Off on the playstore
It's very light (about 40 ko). Just toggle to enable and vice-versa. Then it returns in its previous settings.
Very simple and useful for those who are looking for a caffeine app missing on miui!

Ever since coming from previous custom ROMs I have missed the option/quick setting tile that enabled you to keep the screen on indefinitely.
MIUI 10 still doesn't offer this feature/function, but i was able to find an app that works well on the MIUI OS.
There's an app called Wakey on google play store that adds a quick setting tile to MIUI and doesn't bug out like other apps I've tried.

Optional: If you don't like seeing "Wakey is displaying over other apps" message you can install AutoNotification or TidyPanel from google play store and make a rule that blocks that notification.
Be sure to also make the following change, App Settings > Installed Apps > AutoNotification or TidyPanel > Autostart ON & Battery Saver > No restrictions

um...why not just maximize display sleep setting to 30 minutes and be done with it? surely ure not staring at the same news article for 30 whole minutes

Too much steps/hassle. Would prefer just a toggle button when it's required when reading something and have it go back to 30 seconds when done when un-toggled.

Hi bseos, thanks for your input with wakey, good to know
Otherwise, here is the very small app No Screen Off (48 ko) I shared a while ago https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.k2.no.screen.off
No complication, just toggle and untoggle and nothing to set up

Two exact years later, no caffeine feature on miui 12 beta.
I arrived here looking for that, I'll try wakey app. Thanks.

Hello !! There is another app also, similar to Wakey. It is called Caffeine - Keep Screen On and works well, at least in MIUI 12. Keep in mind that having the screen on for long periods of time may damage your screen.

CurveFish team present our new app - MySettings.
Do you often change different frequently used system settings?
Then, MySettings is for you.
It’s beautiful tool that allows you quickly enable or disable different settings (ringer mode, brightness, gps, wi-fi, bluetooth, unlock pattern, autorotate, screen timeout, auto sync etc).
Now this version works only 1.6 firmware. On Cyanogen firmware doesn’t work brightness and flashlight. We soon will make support for 1.5 and 2.x firmware.
Current version: 1.0.0
Price: $2.10
Home page: MySettings CurveFish
Android Market link
Screenshots from 1.0.0 version:
When is the 2.x firmware version on the market?
castor.troy, after new year.
MySettings 1.0.1 have released: support for 1.5 firmware.
cyanogen update?
I would be willing to purchase this, but I have a few questions first.
Any news on when the brightness will be fixed? That is one of my most used settings.
1 problem I have with using 3rd party apps like this is the GPS. I love the stock power bar because I can click the GPS button and it will turn on/off with just the push. I've used many others (I believe manup being one of them), when I push the button, I get directed to the GPS settings under the phone menu, then I have to click the checkbox.
Does your app do that, or is it click and go? This is my second most used setting. I hate having to do the extra steps.
Did not show up on my Market
I tried purchasing from my HTC Dream Rogers, and I could not find the app by doing a Search.
By following the link on the web page, I got a "App Not Found" message ...
Willing to buy but cannot. Go figure!

following the link from my mytouch opened market and found app no problem.
Lower the price by $.11 and I'm in.
nice app but $2.10 is kind of steep. there is a free one in market that does the same, has all of the settings like in the curvefish one, just scroll down and you will see it in the app and a nice UI too. it's called Quick Settings.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-bwx-bequick-zmDq.aspx
Free is good, but curvefish makes some good stuff. Gonna have to try that q quick settings to see if the brightness and GPS work, since I'm not getting any response

Grrrr
Quick settings is no good either. Brightness doesn't work, and the GPS is just a shortcut to the settings. No good.
So whats up curvefish? Any ETA on the brightness fix for Cyanogen and does this app have a GPS shortcut or actual toggle?

Define "works." If I set brightness, say to 32% from 75% and reboot, it reboots at 32%. So, it seems that each change in brightness requires a reboot. I can live with that. LOL.
I love the way CurveFish apps look! They blend nicely with my themes.
However, I think the price is a little steep - not because their labor isn't worth it - but, because there are free apps that they are competing with.
I have used toggle settings since it came out and it does all of this and more.
CurveFish would have to add custom profiles to this app for me to consider it over Toggle Settings.
MySettings 1.0.2 have released: show titles bug after rerun the app fixed and we decreased its cost - now $0.99. In next version we plan to add new features and make support for QVGA screens like HTC Tattoo.
I might give this app a try I just wanted to point out that the GPS issue people are complaining about isn't a bad design or anything like that, it's more of a "limitation" (I guess for security reasons). No 3rd party apps can enable or disable GPS, all they can do is take you to the settings page so you can switch it yourself. I believe this practice started in Android 1.5.

[APP] Widgetsoid2.x ... 3rd party Power Control Widget, and more... way more!

Just thought I'd pass this along. Before the NS, I used the hell out of "Extended Controls" ... Sadly, most of the toggles I would have liked to use do not work with the NS (2.3 compatibility issue?). Emailed the dev and got responses right away saying it will be updated next week. Next week came and gone ... came and gone again. Dev is probably behind with RL stuff so sooner or later it will be updated. In the mean time, I found an awesome alternative with more features ... and its free.
Widgetsoid2.X
Highly customizable power control widget ... and can even be configured to add a power control widget from your notification bar drop down.
Yeah I really like widgetsoid. Since cm team still hasn't got the flashlight working I use its flashlight widget inside the notification bar. Works great.

great app, been using it for a while now. but how do you put the widgets in the notification bar? can't seem to find it
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
ohh that's a nice find
Odd. Both my wife and I use extended controls fine. I find if you restore it via Titanium, it doesn't work but if you do a fresh install of it, everything functions great. Good find though.

The widget isn't really not put in the notification bar. It puts the image of your widget there but when you click on a power control it brings up the power control in an overlay of your screen where you then select which power control you want to turn on/off. For me (not short on screen space) its no quicker than using regular widget on the screen.
thanks! I've been using extended controls even though it wasn't fully operational w/gingerbread. Just dl'ed widgetzoid and bluetooth works! Liking the vertical option too..
I was really impressed by Widgetsoid and its developer 2 weeks ago. I found a bug, emailed the dev, and got a response in like an hour. Within like 2 hours of emailing him, he tracked down the bug and incorporated a fix into the next release. Now that's service.
we reported it a while ago
http://www.mobiflip.de/2011/01/andr...-benachrichtigungsleiste-einfach-nachruesten/
(p.s. google translate is your friend )
The thing I really like is how easy it is to edit existing widgets. Saves a lot of time if you just want to add or remove something from a power control type bar
the app is good, no doubt, but it's a major pain in the back to configure
some options are no longer available after you hit apply
so if you ever want to change them again, you can't (for example the invisible option, there are a few more that are no longer accessible after it was saved)
and the only alternative is to delete it, and create a new one

Guess that's why I'm sticking with extended controls. Profiles are so easy to edit.
but once you master this App, it's a big treasure chest!
once everything was properly setup and configure, it easily replaced 7+ apps
TeslaLED
tons of On/Off Widgets
Ace Volume
Battery info
crap load of other ones i uninstalled
i setup 4 rows, maybe gonna add 1 more for 5 rows for Apps
that's the nice thing about this app, you can create custom shortcuts to make it launch your most used apps, from the Notification area
i simply love it

Top app, I paid the donation version because this kind of good developer need to be supported.
The dev answered my question and implemented my suggestion!
PS: No problem with applying profile. And if you do have, just email the dev, he will answer and fix.
are you guys able to enable/disable Data with Widgetsoid 2.x on Nexus S using Gingerbread 2.3.. (unrooted?).
Most items work, but this one does not toggle Mobile Data on/off on my phone. I dunno if this is a security limitation right now with this OS.

Yeah I noticed this too. Was a shame, cause this is the main reason I was after this. I guess this functionality of directly enabling/disabling from the task bar cannot be enabled in stock roms without direct framework changes.

Hi,
Widgetsoid need root only for the reboot toggle
For the data on Nexus S just restaur your apn, check your data is enable and go to global preferences of widgetsoid and check "disable all apn".
Now it have to work.

Android don't allow event on notifications it's an android limitation not an widgetsoid error/limitation.
On HTC rom it's works directly because HTC have modify android source code to allow this. HTC users are lucky. Next version have an option to disable popup after click on notification.

[APP][2.3+] ReOn Extra Time with SmarterStay

The screen stays on when you need it. Finally you can read in peace! Works with all brands of phones and tablets. Note: S for Switch Voice Pro includes this functionality built in.
Let me explain:
Have you ever been annoyed by the display constantly turning off on you while you were trying to read or watch something?
It turns off → you turn it on right away → it turns off again → you keep turning it back on... GRRRR!
Of course you could set the display timeout higher...
...but then the battery will drain quicker
Samsung owners, you can enable SmartStay which will watch your eyes...
...but only if it's bright enough for it to actually see you
Extra Time solves these in a brilliantly simple way: you can set the display timeout to a low enough value, and Extra Time will temporarily extend it when necessary:
►RE-ON: when you turn on the screen within 3 seconds after it got turned off, Extra Time will extend the screen timeout, so you can keep reading without worrying about it turning off again (ReOn as in "ON again", get it?)
►SMARTER-STAY: it measures the ambient light level, and increases the display timeout if it detects there isn't enough light for SmartStay to work reliably.
►Your original timeout will be restored the next time the screen turns off.
Save battery power by having the default display timeout set to the minimum 15 or 30 seconds, and still have the screen on long enough when you need it.
USAGE
Very simple to use. Just install the app, start it, and forget about it.
Note: Turn off SmarterStay if you don't want the screen timeout to increase when the phone is used in the dark.
PERMANENT NOTIFICATION
Since Android version 4.0, memory resident apps need to inform users (you!) that they reside in memory. Extra Time creates a permanent notification, but no icon is shown unless you pull the notification shade down. It is also possible to hide the notification all together by long pressing on it, selecting "App info" and un-checking the "show notifications" option.
If you decide to keep the notification,
►you will have an easy way to access settings
►the optional toast notification will not appear regardless of the setting
PREMIUM UPGRADE
The current version of Extra Time will work forever without limitations, but it will remind you of its presence once or twice a week. Support my work with a buck (one time in app purchase), and you can really forget about it, except you keep enjoying the benefits! Buy once, use on all your current and future devices!

In app billing
This small (but growing) tool is my first attempt at utilizing Google's in-app-billing. I made the app to be available for free, and didn't implement any way to stop it's functionality even after an extensive test period. But I have included a friendly reminder of how many times it actually helped and an easy way to chime into the development of this and similar utilities.
The only incentive is that the reminder will appear every few days, when the screen is turned on. We will see how many people appreciate the service of this little convenience tool to participate. In this sense it's an experiment.
In app billing
There are different schools on in app billing. I decided to go in the "user respecting" direction. I don't like apps which walk out on you when you need them the most, because they couldn't check your license. I implemented the license checking, so that the premium status is only revoked if my app can successfully talk to the Google servers and confirm that the in app product have been refunded. Even then, the app will not revert to the "trial" version, only the next time it is started.
I set the price to the lowest value in each country, but of course the app has only one specific purpose, even if it aims to implement it at the highest quality.

the app looks great. however, I'm having a bit of trouble with it:
firstly, whenever I try to launch any app from the launcher, it gives me a force close error. the launcher seems to stay on, but, again, when i try to start an app, FC/
secondly, the weather seems to not be working when using the geolocation. it's fine when I use a custom location to set it manually.

It is really user friendly and make life much easier!
try it out
Hmm cant get it to work.
No matter what i do i cant get the launcher to start on my watch. Also when i start the app in my phone i get the disconnectedicon up in the right corner.
I have restarted the phone and the watch several times now also tried to reinstall it twice to no avail.
Phone is a Xperia Z1 and well a g watch r.
oh yeah i "resynced apps in wearsettings as well.
EDIT: Mini started working within a few minutes.
What did i do wrong? waited probably 15 minutes for the other launcher to connect. Also tryed the swipe from downleft to upper right and didnt get anything
Will retry it again in a few uppdates i guess.

hm, that's strange.
I just installed it on the phone and within a minute or so, got the notification on the watch that the app was installed there as well. Then had the little icon appear in the lower left zone of the watch and I could start pulling that and worked.
Prob try reinstalling the app?

Split Screen to Split Top

Please bear with me if this seems like the dumbest post in the world.
Ok, so right up until a few weeks ago, i loved the split screen feature on my phone. It was as easy as hitting the square button on the bottom, choosing split screen on one app, app folds itself up creating a space below, and then selecting another app to share the screen with. Easy peezee. Could have a video playing in VLC while perusing rss feeds in Newsfold, either on top of one another in portrait mode or side by side in landscape etc. Even my long dead grandmama could do this.
Fast forward to one day last month, i download some usual pixel update prompted by phone, only to discover my oft used split screen is now no more, but now "split top". It doesn't split the screen like it used to do, and i can't figure out how this split top thing is supposed to work. Plus it always says "Pixel Launcher keeps stopping" after several attempts to use the split top function, which is indicating that Pixel Launcher has crashed. But i din't use Pixel Launcher or have it as my default, i've always used Nova Launcher.
Basically i was doing just fine until whatever this update (which i am assuming is 12L) that has ruined split screen for me.
Is there a way to go back to the old split screen way? Or, how the heck do you split screen with this "split top"? I searched around the web and can't seem to find a solution.
I'm really not enjoying my device or being as productive as i used to be.

After wasting so much time trying to fix this bug on my end, and several factory resets where it didn't fail at the beginning but then it eventually did, I found the solution on another post of a different forum:
-Turn ON system animations.
That's it. That's how it got solved. If you turn them off, the new split screen doesn't work at all. I'm afraid this must be an Android 12.1 bug because I had the exact same bug in a Poco F2 Pro with Lineage 19.1 and Trebuchet as launcher, so it's not phone model specific, not ROM specific, and not even launcher specific.
I hope this helps someone

Thanks for the reply.
Where would you "Turn ON system animations"?
I have it in:
"Settings/Accessibility/Text And Display/Remove Animations"
I had this switch on (meaning no animations), what caused split screen to crash. Turning it off solved it.
Hmmm, doesn't work for me. Mine was already in the "OFF" position.
What the heck was ever wrong with the old simple way? It just worked.

Bummer, sorry that it didn't help. It just did for me.
I don't think so, but maybe you activated Developer options, and then changed the value of the animations scales?
Just to discard animation related settings.
I'm afraid I'm of no help beyond that
Well, what do you know...a bit of success.
Since time immemorial, i've always turned off animations in Developer Options to 0, as i do not care for all the fluffy visuals.
So on a whim i decided to tinker and set it to the lowest value, 0.5x, and that seems to work now. But the implementation is so much different than the old way, will take some getting used to. The old method was so much better.
Thanks for the input.
I'm glad it helped at the end!
I fully agree on everything, I don't want animations either, but we're stuck with them if we want split screen as long as they keep this bug...
Also not a fan of this new and worse split screen method. You press Home and both apps are gone.

1,000% this. I'll be returning my brand-new Pixel 6 and returning to my old phone which will never even be eligible for A12
