OTA Update to OPWS27.1.1 after rooting with Magisk - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I'm getting a notification for upgrade to my Moto x4 to OPWS27.1.1. I have rooted my phone with the Magisk root method here, which is working great. Has anyone figured out the right procedure to take the OTA update after gaining root in this fashion?
Thanks for any tips!

Someone posted a method in the Root thread in the other section.

[Q] MotoRoot KitKat

Everything i've read says that root will not survive the ota update, but everyone that i've seen thats tried was using rockmymoto or pwnmymoto. but has anyone actually tried updating to kitkat with just being rooted with motoroot, the first root method. it survived the camera ota with no issues and i was just curious if anyone has actually tried it.
there is a method to root your phone with 4.4. which is slapmymoto you should try that one

Keep root and upgrade to 5.0.1?

Hello,
Sorry for the noob question, but I was wondering on how to keep root through this update. Do I just take the update? Or do I have to wait for another root from chainfire for the new update?
Thanks

If you try to take the ota while rooted it will fail so you can either unroot and do the ota and then reroot or if you have twrp theres a stock rooted rom in the development section you can flash on top of your stock rom that works just fine

[Q] Confusion about rooting

I'm looking to probably upgrade from my GS3 to the GS5. I've read some of the posts on here about rooting, but I'm still a bit confused. It seems that root is only available for 4.4.2, but then you can't keep root and upgrade to 5.0.1. Is that correct?
Also, could anyone point me to a thread that lays out the root method for the phone? I see a lot of people talking ABOUT the thread existing, but no actual links to the thread.
Thanks in advance!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aoca-5-0-keeproot-t3076803. This is to get root from 4.4.4.
Theres another method to root 4.4.2 u gotta downgrade to a different kernel then use towelroot and then flas the upgraded kernel. Theres a method on here by the same guy that did 5.0 one , just search his name you can find it

Note that OTA 5.0 just got pushed by AT&T and if you take it, there is currently no way to root or downgrade to 4.4.2 to use towelroot. In fact if you try to downgrade after the 5.0 OTA, you will end up bricking the phone. I'm sure devs around are working on finding a way to root the OTA, but as of today there isn't a way. There is an alternate method using FireFlash which is in beta to install 5.0 on a rooted 4.4.4. Note that if you are just about to buy a S5, it might be preloaded with 5.0 which until probably some time in the future is not rootable.
I would suggest delaying your upgrade from S3 to S5 until someone figures out how to root 5.0 OTA.

Gotcha. I'm not gonna not upgrade simply because root may not be possible yet if it's already 5.0, but that's good to know. Thanks.

S5 Active Help

Hey guys, I have had an s5 Active for a while and my friend rooted it back in december. I have no idea how he did it or if the bootloader is unlocked. All i can say is that I have xposed installer installed. Can someone help me out with either unrooting and updating or updating and staying rooted. If I have to unroot that is fine I just want to do this right without bricking.
also I'm on 4.4.2
update:
So i'm reading around and am getting the gist of needing to update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 ota and then from there go to 5. I know that'll unroot me. Is this correct
In General Section u will find most if not all which u seek.
Here one post.

You can't
You have to flash to stock. Then reroot. I wouldnt recommend using flashfire unless a guide on here has said to. these devices are a little advanced to root so you must read everything also. No skimming please.
Is there a reason you can't re-root after OTA?
