ROM - AOSP for Sailfish (with minor customizations) - Google Pixel ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other De

THREAD CLOSED
Here's a slightly modified version of AOSP for the first generation Pixel (Sailfish).
This is not a ROM that is going to blow you away with all the bells and whistles you can think of. This is my personalized version of AOSP. I've added just a few tweaks and features that I find useful. After spending a little while customizing it, and then using it for a few days, it's at a point where things seem to be working well. I'm uploading it in case anyone else wants to use it.
Features
Since I made this ROM for my own use, all of the features below are enabled by default. You won't find anything in Settings to enable or disable them.
Pixel-specific features such as Google Lens and unlimited photo storage working.
Minimum brightness set to 1 (Pixel default is 4).
Tethering enabled (net.tethering.noprovisioning=true in default.prop).
Increased media volume steps (ro.config.media_vol_steps=30 in default.prop).
Plug/Unplug does not turn screen on.
Long press back (3 seconds) to kill foreground app.
Long press power when screen is off for flashlight. Automatically turns off after 10 minutes.
Long press volume buttons when screen is off to skip tracks.
Enabled network activity indicators. This is not the activity monitor with the upload/download speed that takes up a lot of space in the status bar. These are the very tiny indicators contained in the same area of the WiFi & mobile signal status icons:

Google Apps
I've included some Google Apps from OpenGapps. I started with the smallest base package possible (pico), and then added to it. The apps I chose to include were mainly the ones that replace default AOSP apps.
Google Apps Included:
Open Gapps pico package
Google Chrome
Google WebView (ROM is also patched the allow Chrome to be chosen as the default webview in Developer settings)
Gmail (replaces stock email app)
Google Calendar
Google Calculator
Google Clock
Google Photos (replaces Gallery)
Google Contacts
Google Dialer
Google Camera
Google Messages (replaces Messaging)
Google Device Health Services
Google Wallpapers
Pixel Icons
Notable Gapps not included:
Google Now Launcher & Pixel Launcher. I use Nova Launcher, so I didn't include these.
Google Play Music. I don't use this app, but since it's not included the stock AOSP Music app is included. I just disable this so I don't have to see it in the app drawer.
Google App (Search). I found that including this package gives you both the old-style Google Now and the new Google Assistant. By leaving this out, long press on the home button doesn't do anything by default. I then installed just Google Search through the Play Store without installing the separate Google Assistant app. With this configuration, a long press on home brings up Google Now like it did back in the KitKat days. None of that annoying assistant talking to me.
The AOSP search app is included in this ROM, since nothing overrides it. I also recommend you disable this.
Download
MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
(Built from AOSP source version 8.1.0 r10. Security Patch Level of February 8, 2018.)
Install
Flash via TWRP, wipe cache/Dalvik, and reboot.
However, TWRP version 3.2.1 throws an error when installing OTA files (I'm not sure why). I successfully flash with TWRP 3.2.0, so that's what I recommend.
Feedback
Most of the tweaks I added were done by editing res values in overlays, or by manually adding features from the source of other ROMs. (Thanks to crDroid and CypherOS). My day job is as a DBA and I know my way around Linux pretty well, but I'm not a developer. Because of this, I'm unlikely to take requests for new features. Remember - I made this ROM for me.
That being said, I'm happy to hear any feedback, answer questions, or look into bug reports (but please show a logcat or at least tell me how to reproduce it).

Can you make a version without gapps included as well?

[Q] [FEEDBACK WANTED] Privacy Aware S5830 ROM

Greetings!
Let's see if I can explain everyting, so bear with me.
I have a custom ROM, made by myself, just for me, with privacy and security in mind. At the moment it's just a few scripts to perform the actual changes based on a clean CM7 nightly (very very, and I mean very, ugly scripts).

If there is enough demand on the forum I might share this in a decent release format, or at least invest some time into trying it.
Main details of the system:* Android 2.3.7
* PDroid patch
* AdAway
* DroidWall
* Replaced Browser with Dolphin Browser
* Everything works fine (at least that I know)
* Battery works quite well (but this is a hot topic, so just take it as it is)
* It's fast, I have absolutely no compains at all
* No Google Apps (sorry, I don't trust them) - Note: The Maps libraries are there, because some apps need themAt the moment I also have:* CalDav and CardDav sync to an owncloud server (which works amazingly well)
* Owncloud client (don't trust dropbox)
* ADWLauncher ('cause shinny )
* Google Car Home (it's quite handy and sends no data to them :angel: )
* K-9 Mail
* KeePassDroid (for the passwords, this plus owncloud = password manager everywere)
* Papyrus Ex
* RealCalc
* Pimp My Rom
* RealPlayerI want to emphasize that privacy + security is a must.
No Play Store, nothing like that.
Although you can install it with a script, but that would be evil and kitties would surely cry. See pic. Relevant to this post.
Figure 1: Picture of a kitty cat crying unicorn blood.
To download the apps, I either use a Virtual Machine running android, or I restore a nandbackup of a vanilla system with the Play Store, just to download the packages, use Titanium Backup to extract the apks and then revert back to the real system I use daily.
Why am I asking this?
Because I'm quite aware the ROM might be improved and I would like to have some bashing and feedback from the community in order to make it better. So do your worst
Why 2.3.7?
Because everything works and the rest is just looks, you can customize it very well (I hate the default 2.3 and love the 4 interface, but I'm quite quite happy with what I have now). No adventures on 4.0.4 and such, if you want that, this is not for you.
If you would be interested in this, answer the pool at the top.
At least 250 interested users and I will work on it.
Pretty neat idea. I'm looking forward to the release. are you theming it to look like 4.0.x?
Screen shots ?and you should install playstore lib files or include a patch for it or you will get flooded with how to do it and alot of people use alot of Google apps still and simtool kit is a must for a load of users too personally it sounds good and I could use it as I'm a advanced user good luck

The simtool kit is there as well. Regarding the google libs, yes you can install them easily with a script. Actually its the other way around, you run a script to remove them.
The screenshots are a bit pointless since you can customize it to anyway you want, nonetheless I have added them.

The application run a programs by using preassigned recognition of gestures - with start point on field of button, following the shape moving of the finger- example (using vector analysis ). It replaces the classic pictograms.
Full Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.launcher
Lite Version(Small Vectors): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.launcherLite
Launcher - is always displayed on top of other runnable applications in a the transparent of a square highlighted by default red frame - does not interfere with to other programs and reading of text and does not take much space. Battery pack does not consume as in itself does not do anything in the background - just waiting for events onTouch function.
To control the program's earlier opened - opens a list of all running software, where you can quickly switch between them or close them (but only if they work in the background). Also at the top of the list are three buttons: 'Close the program', 'Menu', 'Minimize List'.
For operation of can use eight basic gestures finger movement, with pitch between vector directions 45 degrees, you can also use a combination of vectors in two directions, for example: upward and then left, left - then down, etc.
Of course you can used to bind programs different gestures in the menu configuration (Settings).
In the settings for my application, you can also change the appearance of Best App Launcher shape of fonts. Also there is a 'Excludes Application'-a list of open applications android, or rarely system utilities external services - work as active and which cause an error when you switch to them. Since sometimes fall on the list active of user task, such system utilities can be marked as' Excludes 'so they will not show up of the custom list programs.
Default management Best App Launcher set eight gestures:
1(UpRight) - Open the program settings
2(Right) - Minimize all open Activiti (applications) in the background
3(DownRight) - Close the program
67(Left then UpLeft) - Open the settings menu android
65(Left then DownLeft) - See the screen resolution.
87(Up then UpLeft) - FAST ON/OFF WIFI !
78(UpLeft then Up) - ON/OFF GPS
76(UpLeft then Left) - ON/OFF BlueTooth
Moving Launcher icon on the screen - this is done by dragging a button with delaying of the click on the icon, greater than 2.5 seconds; after removal of retention clicking- icon is positioned at the new location. If pressing the button Best App Launcher was less than 2.5 seconds - then starts the analysis finger motion vectors and the program begin to work search tied to this vector the set configuration (if something is scheduled for this vector).
The program is added to the AutoRun.
In the future I plan to add the ability to display instead pictograms Best App Launcher - of the clock / date, alarm clocks, quick opening the list of take brief notes, exchange rates, quick On/Off GSM Radio Module, ON/OFF AutoRotation and Rotation Screen, encryption Messenger by PGP dual keys and other details and information... at the request of of users - should any arise.
Small update for version - fix some errors. Check please - people : - )

Google Assistant on MM - N (Root/Xposed)

Marshmallow
To get Google Assistant working on Marshmallow, you need to install and enable the infamous Android N-ify Xposed module.
1 - Again, make sure that the Google App version is v6.6.14.21. A higher or a lower version of the Google App probably wouldn’t work.
2 - To start with, Install Xposed Framework on your device running Marshmallow. We have a full-featured tutorial that will help you with this.
3 - Next, download and install the latest Android N-ify Xposed module

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4 - Open the Xposed Installer app, slide out the app-menu from the left, and tap on “Modules”. Activate the Android N-ify module and reboot your device.
5 - When your device has booted successfully, go to Settings > Apps > Google app and clear its cache.
Move on to the section below to know how to trigger Google Assistant on your device running Marshmallow
Nougat
Since Xposed doesn’t support Nougat yet, you will need to make the appropriate edits on your own. Basically, you will edit the build.prop file located in the /System partition and change/add a few required values. So first, download an app that would help you do that.
We recommend BuildProp Editor app, or you can simply use a root-enabled file manager.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor&hl=de
1 - Open the app drawer on your phone and run the BuildProp Editor app.
2 - Grant root permissions, when the app prompts for it.
3 - Scroll down through your build prop and find the following value under “BUILD INFO”:
ro.product.model
4 - By default, this should define your device model. In our case it is “ro.product.model=Nexus 6P”.
5 - Change it to the below value:
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
6 - Next, scroll down to the end of the file and add the following line to it:
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
7 - Save and exit the app when everything is done. And reboot the device and then clear the Google App cache in Settings > Apps > Google app, for the changes to take effect.
Summon Google Assistant
To start Google Assistant on your Non-Pixel device, press and hold the “Home” button. Previously, that would bring up Google Now-On-Tap. But now, you shall see the Google Assistant right on your screen. Just go ahead and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up for the first time.
Just as Google Now, the all-new Google Assistant is configurable. Go to Google App > Settings, and tap on “Settings” under “Google Assistant”. This is where you can change your preferences and fill in your personal info.
If you’re unaware of what, and what not Google Assistant could do, you can simply go to “What can you do?” in Google App settings. There, you can get the complete overview of the available commands.
So this was how you can enable Google Assistant on your phone. We can already see the seamless possibilities with Google Assistant. It is indeed one of the most effective innovations by Google. How do you think this is going to the change the way we operate our smartphones? Let us know by dropping a comment below.

I've been noticing that a lot of people are trying to get Google Assistant on M. Why? Is there something special about it that I am missing?

Yeah I think I am not going to even bother getting that feature going. They have enough on my life on file as it is. Hahaha! ?
Is it possible to have working Assistant on Nougat, while keeping set your native language on phone (Polish in my case)? I mean - systemolish, Assistant:English.
I did have to change whole system language to get assistant working.

ABOUT LOS
Lineage OS is a free and open-source operating system for smartphones and tablet computers, based on the Android mobile platform. It is the successor to the custom ROM CyanogenMod, from which it was forked in December 2016 when Cyanogen Inc.announced it was discontinuing development and shut down the infrastructure behind the project.Since Cyanogen Inc. retained the rights to the Cyanogen name, the project rebranded its fork as Lineage OS.
Lineage OS was officially launched on December 24, 2016, with the source code available on GitHub. Since that time Lineage OS development builds now cover more than 185 phone models with over 1.9 million active installs, having doubled its user base in the month February–March 2017.
Preinstalled apps
LineageOS includes many essential and useful apps, but, like its predecessor CyanogenMod, is free from the bloatware often pre-installed by a phone's manufacturer or carrier.
AudioFX – Audio optimizer with presets to alter the listening experience.
Browser – A lightweight browser that relies on the System Webview, for low-end devices, also known as Jelly.
Calculator – which resembles a four-function calculator and offers some more advanced functions.
Calendar – Calendar functionality with Day, Week Month, Year or Agenda views.
Camera – Dependent on device specification will take video or photos, including panoramic. It can also be used to read QR codes. This app is formerly known as Snap.
Clock – World clock, countdown timer, stopwatch and alarms.
Contacts – Phonebook for numbers and email addresses.
Email – Email client that handles POP3, IMAP and Exchange.
Files – Simple file manager to move, copy and rename files on internal storage or SD card.
FlipFlap – An app for smart flip covers, only included on select devices.
Gallery – Organise photos and videos into a timeline or albums for easy viewing.
Messaging – SMS messaging.
Music – A music player, formerly known as Eleven.
Phone – for making calls. Includes speed dial, phone number lookups and call blocking.
Recorder – A screen and/or sound recorder.
Trebuchet – A customizable launcher that supports protected apps.
Although they are not included by default due to legal issues, users can flash the normal Google apps, including the Google Play Store and Play Apps with a gapps zip package.
