[APP] SideSqueeze 2.08 - add squeeze gestures to your Note8! - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

What is SideSqueeze?
SideSqueeze is an innovative and unique app that uses the barometric pressure sensor in your device to detect squeezes and screen presses. It is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy devices from 2017 onwards, although some people have reported varying degrees of success with Pixel devices.
What It Does
SideSqueeze gives your S8/S9/S10 series Galaxy the ability to respond to squeezes, double squeezes, triple squeezes, quadruple squeezes, long squeezes, and/or inertial squeezes, as well as force presses on the screen. For example, you can double squeeze your phone to activate Google Assistant...or maybe you'd like to quadruple squeeze to toggle auto-rotation. And now with Tasker integration, you can even create elaborate tasks to do just about anything and trigger them with any type of squeeze! SideSqueeze's new modular GUI allows you to pick and choose what you want to do with ease.
Features (not all available in trial version)
7 detectable squeeze types (single, double, triple, quadruple, long, long double-squeeze, and inertial)
3 detectable press types (single, long, and 2-finger)
Independently selectable criteria allow you to assign multiple actions to any trigger type (if lockscreen open, if homescreen open, if camera open, if S-Pen detached, if within 5-seconds of power on, if the phone is ringing, if in-call, or if screen is off)
New app picker to launch any app of your choosing
Tasker integration to launch any task of your choosing
Quick Settings tile to toggle detection engine
Wide selection of common actions, such as flashlight toggling, status bar toggling, etc
Adjustable pressure thresholds
Calibration assistant to customize SideSqueeze to your device's unique characteristics
Efficient detection algorithm that is designed to be as lightweight and low-power as possible with no significant impact on battery life
Questions?
See the in-app Help section for answers to commonly asked questions.
Where do I get it?
SideSqueeze 2 is now available on the Play store!

Interesting concept, but I think it's wrong. It's using the touch screen pressure as it's gauge from what testing and results I could fetch.
Correct me if am wrong but I didn't think devices had a sensor for pressure in the reference made out in this app???...

The app detects squeezes by monitoring the barometric pressure sensor inside your sealed device. An algorithm looks for changes of the proper type and magnitude that correspond to squeezing the sides, and an action is performed. Once you learn how to squeeze it, I find it to be reliable. The FAQ (and video clip) describe how best to do it.

wonderfull app man...i'm tested now and work very well

Thank you! Yes, I'll be adding that soon.

Please add support for Tasker. It would be nice to be able to configure the squeeze on a per app basis.

I wanted to give it a try, but it says that the early access program is currently full

I have expanded the limit, and am working on bug fixes.

Great app! Can you provide us .apk so we can test on other devices? Play Store says app is not compatible with my SGS7.

I tried it and the squeezing is wildly inconsistent. On top of that it activates even when I'm scrolling the screen with one hand. Great concept, but doesn't work very well sorry.

That doesn't sound normal, and I'm not sure why. I'll let you know if I find anything out. What device/OS are you using?

Amazing... impressive how it work well, I have a note 8 and use the app all day long, no bugs until now.
Please make more options, like turn off the screen and shooting selfies on camera.

Does not work for me on [email protected] note 8 with case on.

It will not work with a case on, as the dev said, it detects slight changes within the frame, which would be absorbed by your case, and thus not transmitted to the body of the phone itself

What kind of case?

the adb command "adb shell sh /sdcard/grant" returns a "no such file or directory"
nvm it works now after the update. thanks

I like the idea of it, I'm not facing any trouble when I remove my case and SQUEEZE! However, while using the Stand case for the note 8 (made by Samsung) I can't get it to work.

works with cases, just adjust sensitivity. one thing i noticed is that app gets killed quite easily.i have to constantly relaunch it. other than that, i feel like i have a pixel 2!
thanks

Increasing font size
I would like to add one.

I have this little trick
I used a SGN2 with 3 frotal buttons. Menu--Home--Back.
Anytime I need my screen doesn't turn off I pressed menu button, if the menu appears well I pressed again menu button and screen was still turn on.
Now my SGN4 has this 3 frontal buttons Recent apps--Home--Back
If U use some kind of apps (for previous android versions) you will find that menu is hidden, and not all the time the 3 points menu shows up, then WHERE'S MENU BUTTON?
Well the trick is this
If you PRESS and HOLD "recent apps" button you will activate MENU BUTTON.
Try it
I'm loving the copy text feature of the s-pen. Sweet

SixAxis controller works a charm with any game that supports native android game controller - GTA:SA, RR3, PicaSim are working for me, haven't tried much else.
The note makes for a pretty decent portable gaming platform.
You can register up to 6 fingerprints.
When setting up fingerprint 1, scan a finger 10 times then hit register and scan a different finger for the next ten. Hit done.
Repeat for fingerprint 2 and 3.

OK I hope this makes sense. On my Sprint note 4 you have your screen and then at the bottom you have the captive buttons as well as the physical home button (we all have that) now if you are on your home screen and want to slide to the next screen either right or left.... slide your finger on the black line (bottom of my screen) no matter if its across the whole bar or only part of it. I have attached a pic I got off the net to show what I'm talking about. I hope other carriers have this enabled as is so easy to flip between screens. I've only found it to work on the home screen though.

double tap to wake

Hey,
I can't look at LG3 owners without being annoyed about how simple, useful and easy to use the double tap to wake option is implemented there. As for myself I had it with my Nexus 5 which I upgraded from but from my understanding almost all of the big OEM's such as Sony HTC and of course LG has that option.
It is beyod my understanding as to why samsung is the only one to not implement double tap to wake. Any idea's, and do you think we will ever have it?(might be only with a custom kernel but development is lacking at the moment in that area)
Edit: btw, as for a full explanation as to why that option doesn't compromise battery:
'' LG uses Qualcomms low power functionality on Snapdragon 800+ processors for D2TW and knock code. Together with a low power mode on the digitizer, this means that it will use nearly no power. ''
Had a G2 and G3 before, and tbh, the knock on/off feature is the only thing I miss ...
It would be even more useful on the note 4 due to its size.
My HTC One M8 has "knock to wake" and I find it genuinely useful. However, it only really works for me if I have the phone in my hand - it doesn't seem to register if my phone is sitting on my desk.
Given that the Note range has a physical home key, and you can wake it by pressing that, I do question how useful "knock to wake" would be on the Note.
Just my opinion though - you probably think otherwise.
Regards,
Dave

Hey, Ican Wake my Note 4 just Waveing my hand over it. Stock setting
You have a physical buttom in the fromt, so there is not point in having something that will just drain your battery a bit more.
With two ways to wake up the phone, the big physical home button and the side button who needs a third way?
Yes I miss double tap to wake-up, using app called WTN Settings and I double tap on the proximity sensor. Yes it leaves proximity sensor always on but I haven't noticed battery drain.

Cool things you didn't know about. Note 4 Edition

Threads like this are well known in other forums such as Nexus, Sony, HTC etc (even in other forums like gtaforums, etc)
The goal of this is to post these little features or curiosities that makes our lifes a bit easier while using the Note 4.
I will start:
-If you recive a priority notification such as Whatsapp, SMS, lost call or an e-mail, if you pick up your device while is standing in a flat surface (a table, for example) and the screen is turned off, the phone will make two soft vibrations, remembering you to turn on the screen and view these notifications. (Kitkat and Lollipop)
Feel free to post your contributions to this thread and help people to enable these features if they ask.
Cheers!
Awesome thread

This is not only to highlight new features in this device, it's to highlight these little things available in this device thats makes things easier in our day to day usage of it, i't doesn't matter if these features are old. Even Swipe to call is from gingerbread...
Biggest one coming up
Although I agree with the previous comments that this thread would be most helpful for the people switching from other brands/ just didn't notice the features But anyways...here's my contribution:
Instead of swiping and registering 3 fingers 10 times (10swipes/finger) I would say swipe and register 3*10 = 30 different fingers. well you only got 10, so register 10 and reregister fingers/orientations you tend to use more.
PS: the fingerprint scanner is still very accurate with 1 swipe registered/finger, orientation is the key...even if you register a finger 10 times...you miss the orientations, you miss the unlock chance.
Have fun
Found it today, I don't know if already have been posted before. If you set brightness on auto you can adjust the automatic of it , normal it is at 5 and the sliding bar is at middle. Hard to explain just try it yourself.

Auto brightness will get your screen brighter than manual if ya under the sun.
so under sun switch to auto to see ur screen clearly , this in most galaxies not just note 4
You can adjust autobrightness from 0-10 with 5 the normal value when you set autobrightness on first time.
Capture pictures buy saying: Smile, Shoot, Capture or Cheese. One of my favorite features. This way you can put the phone in a place and shout from afar to take group pictures and as many pictures as you like, unlike with self timer. Very useful during night shots too so your hands wont move and make the photo blurry.
Some don't have it in camera settings though, depending on their region i think, but most ROMs do have it.
When u swipe down with two finger you have side key panel if somebody finds difficult to go for home button or back button while using phone

in some apps, including 3rd party apps, dragging diagonally from the top right or top left corner will turn it into a floating window.
under settings/application settings/call/personalize call sound/go to settings
you can configure "adapt sound"
this feature creates a very detailed stereo equalizer profile that can be used together with other equalizer settings.
the first time you open this settings page it will go through a beep test to test the range of both your ears, and both your earbuds/headphone shells.
it will then adjust the sound output to cover any flaws/defects in your headphones and ears.
slide over any bit of selectable text with your S-Pen while holding the button and it will select the text.
in most web browsers you can trigger "mouse-over" effects and menus by hovering over them with the S-Pen.
this makes some desktop pages useable while they won't work for other touch devices.

Multi window Pop-up question

Hi,
The main thing I love the Galaxy Notes is the multi-window feature. Especially the pop-up window option.
I've had a chance to try out the Note 8. Apparently the pop-up multi-window feature give you a small pop-up window with every item in the app still being very large like it was full screen (large font, large buttons, ... the same thing Windows computers do when you make an app smaller). My old Note 3 gives you a pop-up window which actually make every aspect of the app look smaller. I hope I'm making myself clear.
Is there a way to get that Note 3 scaling effect on the pop-up multi-window feature of the Note 8?
This is what a pop-up on the Note 3 looks like:

No I don't think you've understood my question.
I know the Note 8 has the option for multiwindow, but I want to know if there's an app or xposed module or whatever available to scale down the pop-up windows like it was on the Note 3.

that's not what he means.
on old Samsung phones that function would shrink the window as-is, so the app would still draw as if it's fullscreen while it's actually shrunken down to a quarter of its normal size.
this would result in smaller buttons and text.
on newer Samsung phones the app is informed that the resolution has changed, allowing it to adjust.
this can cause apps to reload when resizing them, and buttons and text don't shrink.
unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to revert to the old behavior.

Here... Not the best, but you can see Google drive has resized.
I've edited your screenshot. Look at the red box.

Ok, correct. That bit doesn't change. The rest does, the plus button and the other text, but not the top.

That's what I mean. And if you open up a window and scale it down to the smallest size possible, those buttons and text can really get in your way (depending on the app).
On the Note 3 those buttons actually scale down as well.
Fingers crossed for an update then! I like the feature but I can understand why it's annoying, but it's not bothering me too much.

I highly doubt this will get updated. It's been like that in all the latest Galaxy phones. It's Android's implementation of multi-window. It saves Samsung a lot of time and money not having to code that stuff themself.
So if the community doesn't come up with some kind of mod, this won't change.
That's a shame then. The apps I like to use in popup do work nicely, I love having the notes pop up floating so I can just quickly use it during the day.
Is there an app or mod to allow all the apps to the multi-window view? Because out of the box not all the apps are supported ...

Don't need an app like you did with LL & MM, there's a setting in Developer Options now but like in the past, doesn't mean all unsupported apps will work/resize fine when forced.

Ah nice one didn't know about that, thanks!

Question Samsung Galaxy S23 Unresponsive Touch / Double Tap Problem

Hi, i recently purchased the regular Samsung Galaxy S23 and i have some weird issues with the touch.
The most annoying one is when i get out of an app say for instance 9gag/instagram and then i attempt to lock the screen by double tapping, sometimes one of the taps isn't registered and as you might expect, nothing happens. This also happens when trying to like a post on instagram, or anything related to the double tap.
Another issue occurs sometimes, when i try to just tap something, sometimes i have to tap like 2 or 4 times for the tap to register, as if i didn't tap correctly.
I tried enabling Touch Sensitivity but it didn't help at all.
I wonder if anyone else occured this problem and fixed it, or if it's just my phone. I recently applied a screen protector, hoping the issue was more about the screen being too slippery, but it didn't seem to help at all.
P.S it's a model manufactured in april, not the one with the banana camera issue.
Put into safe mode and see if a 3rd party app causing the issue. If so... take out the trash.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot.
Did you use SmartSwitch?

Will clear system cache soon. Rebooted the phone a few times, what do you mean by "hard reboot"?
I'm googling how to get into safe mode, it's a very good idea, thank you.
Haven't really used SmartSwitch, because i had a lot of bloat on my s10+. Started from scratch. Used SmartSwitch just for pictures and contacts.

Simulates pulling the battery. Probably not needed.

I keep all social media, shopping and banking apps off the phone. Browser login only.

Never use it for critical data; it can fail you miserably. Use Samsung Contacts to import/export contacts and create backup files. Copy/paste critical data then verify file size and if readable. Make at least 2 redundant copies on drives that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
It's possible using SmartSwitch goofed up the load. I've used it and it's predecessor Kies, both are buggy particularly if going between different models or OS versions. I may need to reload one of my N10+'s because of that Best thing to do is not to use it and put together a complete, organized critical data backup plan then refresh it regularly.

Okay so i used safe mode for like an hour and then reverted to regular. I can't seem to tell if it's fixed or any different, because this doesn't happen "all the time". I will give it some time and then i'll come with a better response.
Another thought came to me..
What if the double tapping issue comes from when i do the first tap of the double tap, i somehow do a little swipe down and the phone registers it as such? Is there a way to reduce the slipperiness/smoothness of the screen to counteract this? i wouldn't mind if my screen would be less smooth, but i feel like this would really help.

I think it's probably a 3rd party app.
I don't like gesture navigation as they implemented it at all. On my N10+'s I use Galaxy Store Good Lock Navstar and One Handed Operation plus which is the gesture navigation I use. On a large the side gesture navigation works better for me but I use the virtual buttons a lot too.

I am also using goodlock with onehanded operations and other stuff. I'll keep switching between safemode and normal mode to notice any differences

You can use the app I showed to replace the lame Google gestures with virtual keys. One handed Operation plus is much better for gesture navigation and more customizable.
What it looks like... can be adjusted so it's not light up like a Christmas tree.
