vertical swipe on incoming calls - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi guys
So, I got one of these 4x global last summer, and I'm very happy with this phone, but I have an issue with the vertical swipe to answer incoming calls
I'm used to the "normal" horizontal swipe from my previous phones (I had some Samsungs, and a couple of Sony's Xperia, still have an old Z1 compact when my 4x runs out of battery), and I just can't get used to this vertical swipe.
I did a search on google play apps for some call screen apps, and installed some 10 or so, but none of them worked well
My phone is running the stock Marshmallow 8.2.18.0 (by the way, it should have been already updated, but the update tool says there's no updates available)
Did any of you had the same issue? How did you solve it?
Regards
Antonio (Portugal)

You're using MIUI's default phone app? Most of today's phone interface uses vertical swipe to answer calls. There's no setting available to change that from the app itself.
Maybe try to change the phone app, download from play store and see which one is good for you.

Yes man, I did it on MIUI 9 of my brother's. But it didn't help!

Black screen during call

Hi,
I'm wondering to know if you know application to avoid black screen during calls for the HTC Hero.
RucaNebas
Yes. On the app store there is a free app called Shake Awake. It detects the movement of pulling the phone away from your ear and activates the screen. The sensitivy can be adjusted.
Thank you very much for your quick replay Paul.
I installed and it seems to work.
Thank you again.
Do you know where I can find cool applications for our Hero?
RucaNebas
Wow, this works very nice.
Thank you

You're very welcome.
I have so far only installed apps from the Android Market.
Excellent find.
Not working on HTC Hero :-((
Do you know why?
Yeah, didn't work on the Hero. I hope they fix that with the update and also that annoying vibrate when the phone connects. While interesting concept it is really not needed. I figure I know when it connects when the other person says hello.
You can use Keepscreen, there is a lite version ;-)
Hi,
you may use the free app calle KeepScreen Lite, too.
This app lets you choose for which apps you want the screen always stay on.
The Hero uses a specific phone app, whose name is different from google standard phone app ... But KeepScreen lets you manually choose the apps you want.
There are two versions of keepscreen : the free one (called lite), which is 'limited' to standard google apps, and two of user's chose. The pay version is unlimited.
edit : bricabrac : you won this one
Thank you guys.
I'm sorry to back again, but I need to understand your explanations.
Do you mean that the KeepScreen Lite application could be installed on the Hero and activates the screen during calls?
Which is the Hero app name that keeps the screen always stay on during calls?
I had already created a thread with regard to the screen switching off during a call here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547736
Shakeawake doesn't seem to work for all and for those it does it can be unreliable.
PowerManager can be set (in a profile) to keep the screen alive when making a call for up to a minute (specify by number of secs... I think) which gives you plenty of time to get past those 'pick 1 to do ... pick 2.... etc' type calls.
Hope this helps
how do i install this " shake awake" program on my foon! new 2 andriod

KeepScreen
if i'm not mistaken the actual phone app should be named "Dialer"
KeepScreen is now completely free, and has in the free version all functionality
ahm, can anyone tell me how do i turn the screen off again after i awoke it? my ear keeps checking notifications :/
fyi...on my hacked sapphire, keepscreen was a little buggy. it would sometimes still allow dialer app to go dark while on call even with the keepscreen app running as confirmed in both notification bar and running apps. also, when rebooting phone, keepscreen requires restart but that is probably normal. for me, i decided i rather not deal with the problem of occasional face/key-press on long calls and just let the device go dark. i've become familiar with the quick-key presses to handle call-swap, speaker-on, and such...
I have shake awake since a while and it works fine.
Keepscreen is nice to keep applications "awake"

[Q] Email screen on mod

Is there a way to have the screen turn on when I get a notification? More specifically an email. I did notice in the Roms section there are tweaks to have SMS screen on.
There are apps in the play store that will allow this but they all require the accessibility settings to be turned on which affects how the lock screen works so looking for a way to do this without using an app.
Thanks

You'll either need a different rom or an app, it might be added by an HTC update at some point but I haven't read anything about it. I think HTC thought the notification light was good enough...
I use sms popup for texts. There is an app called notify me in the play store, that if you purchase the pro version you can set up different apps to have the screen turn on. The free version only allows sms.

Thanks, Ive tried that one but as I mentioned earlier it has to be enabled in Accessibility Settings which makes the locksceen not work correctly.

Trickdroid is pretty sweet and stable plus they have wake on sms and you'll get the update that hasn't come to a lot of stateside folks yet. That was a weird feature not to get though, I came from IOS and thought all phones integrated it these days

Yes I've put Trickdroid on it and allows a lot of customization which is great. I too came from iOS as that was just getting a bit dull and samey!! However I do miss how good it was at the notifications...

[APP] Google Dialer

This is a modified dialer apk, and root is NOT required. All credit for this goes to those mentioned in the original OP.
I know this is in the S6 forums, but it is confirmed (by me) working on G5.

Does this app actually make the call or is it just a dialer that opens the LG app soon as you hit send? I'm just looking for a solution to the stock app because it turns hot pink when you hang up... It's the only thing about this phone that I don't like. It's driving me crazy ?

Goto Settings > Apps > *Touch the 3 dots in the top right corner* and select Configure Apps > Default Apps > Phone App > *Select the Google Dialer. It will be listed as simply "Phone"
I have not tested this for incoming calls just yet, but for outgoing, it will skip the stock dialer completely. Hope this helps.

TIA

It's more visually pleasing? For people who really want a stock Google experience, it's one more thing to get you closer to that. With this and the Contacts app installable from APK Mirror, I'm officially using all the stock Marshmallow apps for everything but my Exchange email.

I find the LG dialler requires more finger presses. But I'm coming from the Song Xperia dialler.
New call: Go to dialler. Possibly not on the call tab so click that. Start to type name and some suggests come up. Click on the [v]. Select the person/number to call. And now the bit that annoys me, press the call button. If I click on number why not just call them, why show number and wait for me to press another button?
Call back: So I missed a call. Go to dialler, go to call logs, click on the call I missed. Show the contact details. WTF? So now I click the phone icon and call. Yes I know there is a little call icon but I'm used to clicking a phone number and it dials it. Not have to locate one tenth of the call log line to start a call.
Anyway, I'll get used to it but I do think I have to do more work for simple calls versus other diallers.
Wow. That is as clear and concise an answer as I could ask for. I wish my wife would answer simple questions like that, but I have to ask her twenty follow-up questions just to get an answer to the first one! So, I do see what you mean, and I have found it at least a little annoying myself. I guess I just accepted it as the way it is. Never really thought to look for a different dialer, but by golly it just might be worth a look now. Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough answer. I hope you type much faster than I do, but I use Swype keyboard.
Does the original Dialer needs to be uninstalled first before installing Google-Dialer 3.00?
-> If yes, where to get that original Dialer found and uninstalled?
How about if Google-Dialer will be updated in future to 3.xx?
- Auto-Update or manual update needed?
- Link to webside to be able to always have the latest version installed?
Thx
It's crashing on me. Where can I get one that works?

Ive had no issues with this. Been using it for a week or so & has been flawless.
Also been working for me with no issues. Combined with the Google Contacts app and then Calendar, Clock, and Calculator, throw an icon pack into Nova, and I seriously feels like I'm stock. Very very happy.
as soon as i click on the icon i get "Unfortunately, Phone has stopped" message.
There are several versions out there. It would be helpful if ya'll would specify which version is or is not working. I am running the 2.05.07_rc4 with no issues. I haven't tried the 3.0 version yet.

pressure sensing

I turn on icon shortcut action and go back to home screen but nothing happened?!did I missing something?
use HiCare app for userguides/manual. when this option enabled, certain shortcut icons on default huawei emui home should have quick task options when pressed abit harder.

Music and video app you cant straight away. Maybe if rooted and location changed, it might get rid of the Chinese online stuff. I have sent feedback to Huawei to get rid of that so if we have a big luck might get it fixed on Emui 5.0. You can always instead just hide the app, and use some other player from google store.
For the dialer, you can get rid of the yellow page by:
settings>apps>(menu>show system processes)> YellowPage>disable

Yes that remains. But in time as your contacts fill up, then those Chinese contacts show up less.
Don't forget to use the feedback app to push through the message to Huawei to get the dialer, music and video app optimized for non-Chinese speakers.
Edit: I haven't tried myself, but i wonder what happens if Music and video app taken out of International version roms are used on the our device.

Oppo Find X5 Pro PFEM10 - Bugs

I have had Oppo Find X5 Pro PFEM10 for over three months and observed some issues. Some might consider minor but very annoying and I feel if I cannot find a solution this phone will go to garbage. My current carrier is T-Mobile.
The first issue, the built in clock application widget which has also weather integration, most of the time shows incorrect location. For example: I am in Florida, and it shows weather in Atlanta. Dual clock widget while I am in Florida, shows current location somewhere else. I tried to remove location, set it again but the issue repeats. The other applications that are not default shows accurate location.
The second issue is related to location and camera. I take pictures and it shows inaccurate location here as well. It is very annoying.
The third issue is related to the WhatsApp application. When you on the mobile data, you can receive messages but you cannot make or accept callsl, it shows as Connecting ... but it doesn't go through.
There are other issues with this phone like Google Pay doesn't work and apps that depend on it. Nike App payment doesn't work. etc. less annoying but honestly what is wrong with the manufacturer? Why this phone such a piece of "art"?
Anyway I wanted to pick the greatest brains of this holly place and see if the issues I mentioned can be solved to save this creation of one kind from becoming the trash.

As for the sound, I have the same problem. If I am not mistaken I had to reset the custom notification settings for the app, and then let it run in the background. And now I have notifications. The problem with this firmware, you need to enable permissions/notifications/settings in multiple places, and some of them are not intuitive.
