Hi just nougat

In my P9 Lite, the tools directory is installed on the emulated sdcard (why?), I think it would be better on the external sdcard, also the toolkit has a bad path, there is no directory - tools in the TWRP directory. After adding it and moving the tools to the missing directory - everything works.

I've just Install it with twrp-3.1.1-0-venus, the zip version, and when reboots , its ask for mount decrypt data "enter password" , and can't install anything because its says "failed to decrypt data" .
The tools are ok but i can;t install them, or anything else.
Install again the twrp-3.1.1-0-venus and now no :data decrypt " password asked.
any solution? without formatting data.

everything functions correctly(mtp, brightness, touch, decryption) but couldn't root with magisk(both with recovery provided one and the official one) it flashes, but when i turn on device and open the magisk manager app, it shows no root. and tried flashing gsi (to super partition) messed up the partition table. didn't try backup. couldn't find a way to wipe system, there was no system entry. couldn't mount it either

flashing magisk to get root works but you'll have to use the latest 21.2 version
I have tried to flash all the magisk version but only 21.2 gave me root

TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers, and zulip-chat.
A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM".
Team Win strives to provide a quality product. However, it is your decision to install our software on your device. Team Win takes no responsibility for any damage that may occur from installing or using TWRP.

HOW TO BACKUP && RESTORE ON TWRP CORRECTLY
theincognito said:
Steps for backing up and restoring data in TWRP (Huge thanks to @BillGoss )
Remove any password/pin/pattern before doing this
Backup
In TWRP
Backup: Select only the Data partition.
Reboot System
Restore
In TWRP
If you skip this step you will not be able to successfully start the system after restoring data
Wipe>Factory Reset
Reboot System (this will rebuild the data partition)
Back in TWRP
Restore: Select the backup you want to restore
Reboot system
Note:
At this point the phone will take longer than usual to boot - that's normal
You will be presented with a blank screen or a toast message saying "com.android.phone keeps stopping."
Tap "Close app", hold the Power button down to be presented with the option to (Lockdown), Power off, or Restart. Select Restart
It may take a couple of restarts
If you want to backup and restore fingerprints too, follow the guide in the attached file

Why do we need to install new drivers with no signature?
Whats the problem with normal platform tools?
Can anyone confirm if could restore a backup successfully and what is the right order to restore every partition?

Unfortunately, I will not do it at the moment because I do not have time. And in case of problems with the system, I will have to reinstall everything and upload files.

Development [RECOVERY] [11] [star/mars] [OFFICIAL] TeamWin Recovery Project

Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Easy selection of internal/external storage
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe, and run a backup.
We are looking for other talented developers, themers, and device maintainers if they are interested in helping with a free, open source project.

If you have made your own TWRP build for an unsupported device, please let us know. We might add your build to the list of unofficial builds. Bear in mind that we are working hard to add more devices and we may add your device to our official build list later.

2. go to Advanced > Install Recovery Ramdisk
4. select the new image
5. after that is done, if you were using a custom kernel, reflash it now

Can't mount /data neither Mi 11 Star on A12 (latest weekly EU Rom), removed password before fastboot boot twrp.img
Tried to adb pull /tmp/recovery.log, but :
adb: error: failed to get feature set: no devices/emulator found
you do this on fastboot mode, right ?
Thank you

did you remove password or pin?
Great news!
I am wondering if there is a roadmap when TWRP will be available for A12?

Everything is fine, a log file appeared after I backed up the boot, I hope it's useful
please make a clear tutorial on how to fix the unable to mount/data
i removed the pin and password before fastboot boot twrp.img, go to advanced flash current twrp, and when i restart the device it goes to fastboot again.

Updating to a newer build:
1. download new build to internal storage
2. go to Advanced > Install Recovery Ramdisk
4. select the new image
5. after that is done, if you were using a custom kernel, reflash it now
6. if you were using magisk, reflash it now

How to update if we are currently use a different TWRP? I mean not "official".
Mi 11 Ultra / star
Using EU 12.5.20 and twrp 3.5.1
Update to 3.6.0 via Install Zip in 3.5.1
Reflash EU rom after update twrp and booted normally now.
Working fine. Thank you.
@hacker738 and now check, which version of TWRP is installed
if 3.6.0 then I'll really congratulate you

Cannot Root my redmi note 8 ginkgo

Hello
I have a redmi note 8 when I was on MIUI 12.0.1 magisk was working perfectly with zygisk and all the modules I had.
After updating to MIUI 12.5 I lost it and that update was so laggy and full of issue so I went back to MIUI 12.0.1.
When I flash the magisk 24.3 after changing it to a zip file it flash with TWRP with no issue but when I turn on the phone I find the magisk icon when I clicked on it it asked to download and install magisk but it never does it keep the message downloading even the app had access to the storage, so I cancel that and Install the magisk APK :

}
which ask that it requires addtional setup and I click OK but it said it fails
then the phone become so laggy when I check the internal storage I find that the phone created a folder named 0 and start copying all file and folder from the internal storage to that folder.
When I try to unistall it from the application it said that it hasn't acess to \data
so I went to TWRP and removed it with a uninstaller zip, if I insall and old version of magisk like 23 I dont get this kind of issue
any help please.
1. you have accidentially duplicated your internal storage /sdcard aka /storage/emulated/0 aka /data/media/0.
connect adb shell in TWRP recovery. I assume you are firm with basic toybox coreutils cp, rm etc. you have to do it manually from command line in TWRP adb shell or terminal because you lost root (requires TWRP, OrangeFox, RedWolf or whatever custom recovery with encryption support or unencrypted device).
- merge /data/media/0/0 into /data/media/0 and
- delete unwanted /data/media/0/0 duplicate directory to free up disk space
Don't make any mistakes, you might lose your pictures, WhatsApp media, etc. from Internal Storage.
2. clean Magisk installation
- delete /data/adb directory and
- wipe /cache partition
- install Magisk again
You will lose all modules and superuser settings.

Thanks for the answer I tried all the above things except removing /data/adb and wipe cache partition
I installed magisk 23.0 yesterday but didnt accept to do the requires addtional setup.
should I remove magisk then try to install the latest one then do step 2?
another question I must not reboot the phone after clean Magisk installation in step 2 just feolow the other steps directly ?
I did what you asked and it worked
the only issue I had is I couldn't install the magisk 24.x so I installed the 23.0 and updated and everything is good
thanks
