I'm bot usually that guy, but I tend to agree with this guy. Do we really need to obsess over how long we can use the device before the battery dies?
I've found that just using the device without caring how long it lasts, I get way longer than expected battery life.

The problem with this is, everyone uses their phone differently. So unless people will tell us how bright the screen was, using wifi, 4g, gaming, Facebook and for how long, etc etc, it would be pointless IMO. If you want better battery life, reduce brightness, as this is the biggest drain on the battery, stop all syncing, remove apps like Facebook, reduce the resolution, turn on power saving and turn off animations or put them to .5.

Exactly & agree on all the above. SOT is so over rated & it's easily to manipulate the results. I mean I have posted my SOTs before but I use it only for comparison, ie rom & kernel testing based on my own phone usage. Comparing SOT with others' results doesn't really mean anything except to those looking for some kind of useless bragging rights.

I find the Oreo update sucks. I dont know if its just me. my phones gets heated for no reason, even if its not being used or charging. Battery Life sucks so downgraded the Noughat. Happy to have the 5-7hours SOT and less heated phone.

Whats with these guys and the excessive use of exclamation marks? AND not reading before posting? There are several threads about this topic

sorry, I know some of you are just enjoy the phone etc, Im trying to find out what other people are getting as I seem to be draining pretty bad, when I use better battery stats it shows wifi running 100% despite it being off

Battery life dropped a lot with the Oreo update for me, har resetting, cache resetting nothing is helping. I get tops 3 and a half hours.

Yeah Oreo sucks I got only 3.5 hours SOT now back on Nougat I'm getting again 5-7 hours SOT

Didnt want to open a new thread for another Battery consultation. I have the 950U1 model and after upgrading to Oreo ive had an average of 1 hour and 15 min of Screen time and it drained my battery %6. Is that within the norms of how it is? Just curious.

Anyway, this is very strange as the majority is having possitive feedback on battery life, also the Oreo itself is having some battery (app) optimizations that should help... but no!

I started other thread asking for opinions about the OTA oreo, I mean only OTA, as some got their oreo in beta or cross flashing from other countries, or changing some parts, In my country we dont have OTA oreo yet, at least for officially distribuited devices which are ALL branded, (locked or unlocked), as samsung does not sell cellphones to consumers directly in Mexico, only through 3 carriers, but all these comments make doubt about updating from nougat, reading this thread has made my uncertainty bigger, in the meantime, I disabled OTA updates, just in case, maybe waiting for Oreo 8.1 would be better

You can't accurately judge/assess battery life in increments. Go through a few full cycles and see what averages out.

A complete disaster. That Dip is 45 minutes paying music with the screen off.
I've had it for two weeks, cleared cache and dalvik all that. I need know how to downgrade.
Google has been iffy. I have the unlocked Samsung note 8, I use it on Verizon. Bought it directly from Sammy

What is reasonable battery use?

I diconnected my phone from the charger, and it was at 100% at 830 this morning and now at 1130 it is at 56%/. This is after probably abotu 1-1.5 hours of browsing the web on my phone and configuring widgets.
I was wondering if that is normal battery drain? I have been flashing my phone quite a bit lately and it seems that the battery life is not that great. I have already recalibrated my battery as well.
Also my phone is overclocked to 1.3ghz.
You might want a second opinion but I'm going to say yes
If there is evil in this world it lurks in the hearts of man.
1130 AM? If so that is not good at all.
Not good at all, I am running Pinnacle 1.2 for 29. 5 hours since last charge and I have 29% remaining, that includes roughly 3 hours display on time and just shy of 1 hour phone calls.
Very happy with Pinnacle 1.2

Yeah 11:30 AM. Perhaps I should look into flashing another rom, although I have been very happy with Apex 9.2 except with this battery issue.

If you're on Apex, try going without the overclock and switching to the DarkCore kernel. That might help your battery life a little bit.
Did the phone feel hot?
What kind of sites were you hitting? White background? Lot's of Flash?
You've got three things that I see hitting your battery hard - the data transfers, the screen and the CPU usage. Depending on how your overclock is set up, I'd guess it's causing your CPU to use at least 30% more juice.
I can get days of idle time, but only hours of heavy use out of my battery. There are certain web sites and games that seem to suck the battery dry.

Sounds like you have an app running wild.
Well when my phone is on standby, I find that it drains at a reasonable rate. It is just when I use my phone that it drains fairly quickly.
You're doing it wrong.

29.5 hours? With Pinnacle 1.2 I'm getting about 8 hours with moderate use
Agree with jsfLip!
With moderate use, my Cap get out of battery in 8-10h.
Iam using Pinnacle 1.2, its standby status is quite good! 1-2% after 8h standby at night!
Please have a try!

and whats the definition of moderate use? Sorry I ask this but I have seen people with 4:30 hours of display calling it moderate.
Plus you need to caliberate your battery

I've tried different settings on my phone and have not been able to get your kind of battery life.
I recently flashed MosaicVI and using the JV6 modem. After using this modem I have been getting better results but not quite as good as your.
What I'm trying to find out is there any certain setting you have your phone in, i.e. only on WiFI, Auto Display, sound, Disabling Your data when not using it? I would really love to get this kind of results. I'm sure everyone else would to.
Oh, I've also cycled my phone battery 3 times everytime I flash a different ROM. Please school me up on how to get those results.
P.S. I tried to quote you and reply but me being new to posting comments did not let me.
Go to market and download "Data switch". You will see marked improvement to your battery life.
So is that the secret? "Data switch".
All it does is turn off data usage so your cappy is not using data for all the background services (synch and such). Its what I use when I want the battery to last and don't need a data connection.

Replace Battery?

What kind of battery life should I expect typically out of this phone that only sees relatively light use? I do keep wifi, bluetooth and google location services on at all times, and usually use the phone for occasional calls, texting and some web browsing I rarely stream and almost never play games. The battery life in the attached screenshots seems a little extreme, no? Please let me know what you think. I am running the Columbian variant of Marshmallow on a G800M. It is not rooted, but I debloated it considerably using TWRP file manager. Battery life is similar on any ROM I run on it however.

So I am thinking I am having battery issues. I purchased this phone just a couple of weeks ago used, so I am not surprised to see that the battery may have seen better days, as the phone is probably 3 years old. Does anyone have any recommendation for a new battery? I see lots of genuine article samsung batteries being sold as new, and under ten dollars pretty much anywhere but my concern is that they have been sitting on the shelves for years now. Has anyone had any experience with these batteries? Any recommendations for something better?
Also, I am seeing both "eb-bg800bbe" and "eb-bg800cbe" batteries available for this phone. Currently, I have the "B" variant, but does it matter?
Thank you for your time

That seems to be pretty normal battery life for what you have explained. If you keep your data on that is going to waste your battery dramatically and if you are constantly going in and out of service then that is also a big battery drainer. Try to only use data when you need and change the GPS to low power mode instead of high accuracy and you should see a difference in battery life. I don't think you need a new battery at this stage.

I think you can buy a battery on amazon for 10$. Li-Ion batteries lose their capacity mostly as result of charging-cycled and not for lying around. And i would buy the same variant.
Well, I got impatient and purchased a generic replacement battery off of eBay. It is billed as 2300mah, so we will see what happens.
I don't want to babysit the settings everywhere I go so I will just deal with whatever battery life I get.
Anyway, I am sitting in a waiting room right now and saw it switch from LTE (and one shaky bar on reception) to H+ and the reception bars went all the way to four!
I got the G800M variant because I wanted LTE under Cricket (at&t network) ... I am wondering if LTE has been burning a lot of battery. Both at my home and at work, I rarely have more than two bars.
Anyway, I changed network mode in settings to WCDMA/GSM (disabling LTE) to see what happens. Are there going to be areas where these modes are not available and LTE is? I don't mind the speed hit if it improves battery life, but I do like having coverage.
Oh wow... That made a huge difference in standby time. I only burned about 2% over ten hours last night!
With LTE enabled, I would burn at least thirty...

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Lenovo P2's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The battery life was blissful and why wouldn't it be! The power effecient Snapdragon 625 and humongous capacity will push this phone for a very long time before I would end up near a charging socket. But lately, I have been noticing a drop in the battery life of this phone. I received an update in August 2017 which was a July security patch of 125mb. After that update I did notice a drop in battery life. Not that it is terrible now, but surely it doesn't feel like 5100 mAh any more, or may be it feels like 4000 mAh. I used to push this phone for 2 full days earlier and still would have 20% juice left, but now my P2 gives up at 5 to 10 hours past a day. It still impressive but these are not the stats that reflect a 5100 mAh capacity with a very efficient cpu, and considering the fact that it was much better before that 125mb update. And when Lenovo phones get an update they never specify the summary of that update. So I doubt that a security patch alone cannot be 125mb. There was surely some bug fixes in that update, but I did not notice any fixes instead a drop in battery life sadly!
I haven't noticed any change in battery life since the update. At my current user pattern I should, according to GSam, be able to browse the web for 10 hours before battery is depleted. SOT would be almost 20 hours.
I have the sames problems.
Have you got à solution?

Nah i'm thinking of getting a new phone . Its a race between the Moto G5 plus ( unlock the boot-loader and modify the camera ) or the Honor 6X ( on 3 uk firmware so needs debranding to an open one ) . I'm leaning towards the moto as I've read the camera is stunning once its been modded .

P2 is one of the best in class. It has good display, battery life, speaker and camera. Lot of mods and custom roms are also available. Choice is yours.
Amazing
Have owned hundreds of android phones, and deal with lots day in day out, use my phone to play music when working, watch videos on it, gaming too, battery is phenomenal. After can full on day of hard usage, the battery is still over 50%..... This phone just rocks!!!
How's ram management on 3/32 version with aosp los roms?
The battery is great and the phone is rugged, mine got smashed so many times and a friend even sat on it and the aluminium shell eventually cracked (I replaced it, and had to take it apart).
Placed the battery on a weight scale just for fun. The weight of the phone comes at a price, it feels heavy or well heavier than most phones of that screen size but the battery performance is great and the phone is super rugged.
After a year of use, the battery is not as impressive. Getting enough for 3-4 days. Now for 2-3.

The SOT depends om my user pattern and apparently the reception also plays a big part. Not to mention I have many apps which never sleep.
I recently hit 8 hours of SOT when using it for 43 hours. That's from a 100% to 20% charge.

What is the safest battery percentage range of the Note 9?

Hello. It has been just 2 days since my Note 9 arrived. Everything is perfect. I wonder about the battery percentage range. I mean, you know, it is harmful to go from "0 to 100" all the time. This is my first Android after 4 years of IOS jail...
What is the safest method? Thank you!
If you search in the Note8 forums I remember reading some posts on battery life/health long term and the general opinion, some backed with links to studies, was that the optimal range was between 40-80%. I'm no expert, but from what I read and looked up at the time, I think that was mostly correct, however I get the impression most people (including myself) don't actually charge their phones that way. I think a lot of posters said they didn't let their phone drain too low, and certainly not to 0, but happily charged them up to 100% every day/night.
As I say, some searching on these forums, or even just googling should give you the answers you want. Hope it helps! ?

Apparently that is the correct way to charge lithium based batteries. I have my quarrels about it though because of the heating aspect. If the device is charged that way, and the device is heavily used, it will end up getting very hot which is what happens in my case. Heat causes extra wear and tear on batteries, and actually causes them to discharge more rapidly, and take a lot more time to get charged. So using the 20-60% or 30-80% method on a heavily used device just might not be the best way to care for the battery.
I'm still struggling to find a balance of charging on my Note 8. Still haven't found a good solution as yet considering that it's rooted so it's limited to 80% max.
I've been doing the accubattery 40-80% "most" of the year with my Note 8. It claims my 3300mah battery has 3213mah remaining.

Since I got it. I do go to 100% when I'm tethering for long periods of time so there have been many times when the phone was topped off. I normally do the 80% though and the battery has held up well. I've had the Note 8 since release.
There are so many studies and opinions about this subject. Its like diet, one day we should eat margarine and not butter the next study shows the complete opposite?
To that end, as yet I don't think we are going to get a positive, reliable, professional answer?
Battery paranoia is not healthy been there. Just use the mobile and enjoy it.
Ryland
Been doing the 40-80% as best I can since ownership.

Just playing devil's advocate..... But isn't only charging to 80% and basically not using 20% worse than over the course of say a year, losing 15% battery health??? Your still getting more battery use and over the course of time much more hours of usage. Unless your plan is to have the phone for 2+ years which most ppl on XDA don't do.

Why waste your time and worry, seems like people are still stuck in the mindset of 2013 or so.
Just top.it off overnight, or, while you're getting ready for work/etc & it should have enough juice for the day.

General The battery drain got EVEN WORSE FOR ME

10% battery drain in 20 minutes seems like my battery just killed itself at this point, hell nah man, never in my life am i getting this brand, NEVER, legit, how much stuff do i remove and limit to use my phone is annoying, i paid $820 USD for it and it's pure s**t. Please stay away from ONEPLUS-OPPO, or to be honest any chinese brand per se. NEXT PHONE I AM BUYING WILL BE IPHONE 15 PRO MAX, F ONEPLUS.
I guess it would have been better to buy a Google Pixel 7 Pro or Samsung S23

Nah, I don't want any problems anymore, enough of this bs, I will just get the iphone 15 pro max and I will be happy ever after, my parents have iphone 13 pro max, man those things last forever, two days of HEAVY usage, perfomance, realllyyyy gooodddd, not that oneplus has bad perfomance but it's at the expense of battery life, 3 hours compare that to 11 hours, insanneeee
not even google nor samsung get that, hoping 15 pro max would have even better battery life. Either way it will be better than this bs phone.

My battery is holding at an estimated 90% according to accubattery. That's fine for a device that has been used as a daily for a year+. But something is draining it, I wish we could figure out what is going on, mine has been noticably worse since I updated to OOS13 recently. It may be a coincidence, but something is up and it's got to be software related.
i got mine this January and for my use i get an hour for every 10% using full hd and high fps setting.. so around 9.5 to 10 hours sot on a full charge..
if i lower the resolution and fps i can get around 11 to 12 hours sot.

never, maximum 5 to 6 hours sot
i am not trolling and i will charge to 100% and post proof after a day's use.
my device is almost brand new and my use is pretty light.. mostly reading stuff, discord, texting and youtube, bluetooth spotify when driving.. not much calls.. almost no games. i have also disabled some system apps and i use a firewall app (afwall) to block apps which i feel have no business to be online (even system apps such as photos, camera, phone etc).. i also disable the background data for almost all the apps and only gmail and whatsapp are allowed to autostart.
my device is a 2210 running c.26 2215 fw with root, and lsposed aswell.
i'm posting the current battery screenshot.. it was around 60% initially and you can see from the use i'm getting about an hour sot for every 10%.
obviously if your use is heavier than mine you'd get less.. but 5 to 6 is just too low imo.. that is probably like all day heavy graphics gaming sot. i suspect that the ultra fast charging will ultimately damage the battery pretty quickly because of the heat and maybe thats what you are facing.
