stock oreo w/ huawei's button navi & portrait mode possible? - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Hi yall,
tis my first post, so please have mercy!
I'd like to know if stock android oreo on my huawei p10 is worth it.
I'd also like to know if I could retain the button based navigation I got used to (came from iOS after many years) while having stock android as well.
Plus, if there's a way to keep the bokeh effects of the cameras (front/back) on stock android (default camera app, unless there's a way to configure the lock-screen shortcuts )
Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!

hey, it's pretty safe to say that all of the functions featured above (home button navigation, portrait mode, etc.) will not be present when installing stock android because huawei is the one responsible for them being in your phone. Unless you are committed to losing these features, it's not worth installing stock android oreo.

Hello! I have a bit of a problem. After listening to music through headphones the phone gets stuck in headset mode after removing the headphones. The problem gets fixed after i restart the phone but it's annoying and requires time. I am using a custom Pie treble rom. Any ideas how to fix it? I will thank you. :good:

Yes. As expected it works just fine. After a long way of changing roms i realised there is no stable rom for P smart. I came back to stock EMUI.

Not sure if it will be any interest for you if you are looking for a more Pixel like/AOSP experience
But we offer a ROM based on stock EMUI for the FIG-LX1 model of the P Smart
Supported models are:
C782
C432
C106/C106B ( need confirmation )
Our ROM has a lot of EMUI apps removed and replaced with Google alternatives even the home launcher, packaged with a custom theme designed by us to make the system feel more like Android 9.0
Thanks - Ryan

If you are talking about EMUI Pixelized I tried it aswell. It fells nice, but lacks in some features like notification to turn on screen. Also theme is a bit "annoying". But anyway, great job in modding EMUI regarding Huawei strict authority. And yes, I've always been a fan of AOSP stock interface and features.

Notifications to turn on screen is located under
Settings>Apps and Notifications>Notifications and status bar>Notifications turn on screen
It is off by default, I will have it turned on by default in future versions
We are already working on a dark mode as we are always trying to improve our services. What do you find annoying about our current theme?
Thanks - Ryan

New Pie Camera App on Oreo?

I see the new Camera App included in the latest Pie Update includes the Night Mode and QR Scanner features.
Is there any way to get that new Camera App installed on Note 9 running Oreo (without upgrading to Pie) ?
Why just not upgrade to Pie?

Pros and cons list ?
Benefits of Oreo (useful features that Pie lacks
Benefits of Pie (useful features lacking in Oreo)
Could be an interesting list for Oreo fans to compile and useful in general for users wanting to make a choice.
I will start by saying I preferred the multi tasking / split screen method in Oreo.
For Pie I quite like the often underrated in my view, value of more recent security updates .
For the sake of clarity my Note 9 is Exynos model on the latest version of Pie and I have been happily using Pie since beta versions on January 2019
Yes, I like Oreo's split-screen better. There's already some really good Oreo vs Pie threads that list out many of the likes/dislikes and pros/cons... well worth the read.
So getting this runaway train back on track I'm just wondering if there's any way to install the new Pie Camera App on Oreo ?
Interested too
It did not work on Oreo. I tried several programs to update Oreo and blocked my phone. It had to be reset. I went to Pie and I'm so happy.
Hi folks!
I think is better Oreo camera app, because you have in the same screen both buttons: Picture & Video, usefull for use the same fx like beauty modes, etc..
Thats is why I downgrade to Oreo
Hi! I notice as soon PIE arrives, that we need to slide between photo & video mode. With Oreo in the same mode you had two buttons in the same screen: one for pic another for video...
I had to downgrade to Oreo, do you guys know if with some update this feature as been fixed in PIE?
Thanks!!!!

Android 10 gestures

Hello!
Just updated to Android 10 and switched to the new gesture navigation and I love it. The inconvenience is that they seem to work only with the stock launcher which is terrible. Any workaround this issue ?
Well, i got Android 10 update yesterday (not beta but official live version). I use Nova launcher prime. Somehow gestures work - at least back button, to the home screen button and last used apps button all work. Double tap to open Bixby works too for me in Nova. I did Android upgrade, without phone reset.
NB! Nova launcher states in settings, that gestures don't work...but like i said, they work for me.
Such a shame that Samsung still makes a crappy launcher with no special features.
I guess we'll have to wait for updates, the pixel 4 got an update that made gestures work with 3rd party launchers.
I'm the same (Nova Prime), and my gestures are just as they were pre-upgrade - which I'm kind of happy about. But I just don't quite understand why! I didn't think launcher would affect it.
I'm sure that after Android 10 goes final you'll see a lot of apps update. I can understand a developer not wanting to spend a lot of time developing an app for beta compatibility. Even Samsung waits on their own apps while in beta, e.g. Good Lock.

Erm...don't know if you are aware but the beta program is over, the final software is available via OTA update, I am not running a beta version of the software .
And Samsung just implemented Android 10's gesture navigation, which is available since September.

Any way to use Gestures on Stock Android 10 without root?

Hello guys.
There some way to use gesture as AOSP Rom on Stock Android 10? Like another launcher.
Thx.
"Off topic vent"
I don't know why sony release a new Android without 'choose gesture option' like Motorola does. Looks like a incomplete port ( since Pie ). Maybe to force XZ2 and XZ3 looks like an older device.
Found an app to do It!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar.premium
Still search for best settings.

I haven't upgraded to 10 yet, but on 9 I've been using FNG and I prefer it over the AOSP pill gestures.
I think if I'm not wrong that gestures features should be enabled with Android 10, but they are not on xperia xz3. And the funny thing is that there are some apps inside that should do the job, but we have to ask Sony
Here
Same for my XZ3

This is very strange for SONY to do that because everything is there, they just decided to disable this feature for XZ3 users.
I will try to look into it maybe we can activate it through adb just like with pie.

hi yes it's really a shame I personally searched everywhere to activate navigation by gesture but it was impossible I tried with the adb code provided by nreuge but it does not work; the middle bar appears but it does not move there is that the sweeping on the right or on the right which works so was useless

OneUI/Android10 OTA too buggy?

Judging by the numerous complaints of issues with the new A10 updates, it looks like OneUI with Android 10 is NOT ready to replace Android9, yet it's rolling out as OTA upgrades. I predict it won't be long before people regret this new update and want to roll back to A9. I have a U1 variant and haven't gotten a prompt to update yet. It seem like a good time to fire up adb and disable the packages that are responsible for updates.
Anybody love the new OneUI w/A10 they got on their N9 via OTA? What's good about it?
I haven't had any issues and know a few others that haven't as well, but we are a small amoint of people, so yeah.
I really don't feel a difference between Android 9 and 10 with the exception of how dark mode is implemented now. That's honestly it for me. Battery life for me on the Note 8 and 9 have always been meh, but so has every other phone for me with the small exception of the Xperia Z Ultra and LG Optimus something big. Whatever the big one was.

I went back to Android 9 a couple days ago. To me, and this is just my opinion, 10 feels like 9 to me. And the sad thing is Samsung considers this a major update so that means the 9 will not see anymore other then security patches.

Google did state that Android 10 would be a significant improvement over Android Pie. Whether that is the case or not we have yet to be certain. But it is safe to say that Android Pie for the Note 9 will not be receiving any security patches now. As Samsung will only be releasing patches for Android 10 for the Note 9 from now on.
That is what I meant. 10 patches not Pie

On 10 and loving it. Miss a few good lock options. Battery life has been great while gaming compared to 9. I read a lot of posts here and have not run across any issues yet.
This is what I am waiting for, more news of good or bad experiences with A10. I am very happy on A9 (I have U1 variant) and I dont want to click update yet because I like it how it is. I hate that they stop security patches tho. Dark mode means squat, I have themes that work for that. I also use good lock features alot. I guess I will keep postponing the update till I see more threads about it. The silence is weird, normally there are pages of complaints after a new version comes out.

Iv been on 10 for awhile now, and i have noticed its a little sluggish. Flashed in odin, then i performed a factory reset and it is still sluggish. Hoping for an update soon
Yeah, comparing A10 to A9 (stock) is a different comparison than OneUI A10 to OneUI A9 (Samsung's) ... and that is because one of the major differences with stock Android is that A10 finally integrated dark mode.... But Samsung did that with OneUI on A9, sooo... I have OneUI with Android 9, everything is dark, it all looks good, and I like it. Also, nothing seems buggy.
It doesn't look like there is any reason at all to upgrade to OneUI w/A10, unless I like to take my chances and see if Samsung bugged up a rushed release.
I actually really, really, hate white apps. So if OneUI with A10 integrates dark mode into apps much better than it does with A9, then I would consider the upgrade, for Google apps like gmail, maps, docs, etc.
Good points from all. It's not that Android 10 is bad, it just doesnt seem much different then Android 9. For me the gestures were horrible. I'm sure peeps like them but just not for me.

Android 10 OTA has been great for me - getting better battery life and everything smooth and fluid. No problems whatsoever, and I just did the upgrade OTA, no clean wipe or anything like that (thankfully). Did use Galaxy Labs App Optimiser and I do believe apps open noticeably faster afterwards.
P.S. Still using navigation gestures as I was on 9 and notice little difference.
How are the gestures in 10 different from 9?
I have no buttons on my screen. Bottom right corner swipe up goes back to previous screen. Bottom middle swipe up goes to home screen. Bottom left swipe up shows all running apps.
Is OneUI/A10 different than that?
Someone can tell me how is the volume on Android 10 compared to Android 9? Is it louder or similar?

i think you are using 3rd party launchers? because the new full gestures can only be used on samaung one ui launcher
I am in San Francisco, with unlocked US Note 9, and have not received A10 update.
Has anyone on here in the bay area received it?
If needed, point me to another thread for this question.

Stock full screen gestures (no buttons showing) in settings > display > navigation bar. This is built into OneUI/A9

so you mean to say you dont have the new full screen gestures of android 10?
bdw your fullscreen really shows fullscreen apps?
I've had A10 for a few days now, and besides one small glitch (commas and periods are doubled when I press the icons, and sometimes the space doubles also using the space bar), I've had no issues with it.

I mean to say that I am running stock A9/OneUI with fullscreen gestures built into the OS (not from a third-party app), and from what people are describing about the fullscreen gestures in A10/OneUI, they are not any different. And yes, my fullscreen really shows fullscreen apps--no software buttons.
Ive found that A10 and UI2, cannot handle gestures and fullscreen mode any where near as well as A9 UI1.
Ive tried A10 twice now and both times, from a full wipe, the fullscreen/immersive mode messes up the A10 gestures. Whereas A9 can run fullscreen (no buttons, no taskbar, full immersive for all apps) and use gestures without any issue, and with just one swipe.
You try using proper fullscreen/immersive on A10 with gestures, and it takes two swipes to do anything, and Edge Panel Apps just gets ruined, as you cannot swipe open any more. There must be some conflict in Fullscreen/Immersive mode.
I use bxactions to toggle Fullscreen/Immersive from the Bixby button.
