Can I use Xperia Companion to Install UK Firmware? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

I swear that when I first got this phone i used the Xperia Companion tool to select the UK firmware to Install it to the device? Everything i see now points to using the Flashtool.
Am I crazy? did i use the flash tool and just don't remember?

I'm pretty sure you can't use Companion for changing region (not sure if it was even available earlier), so you need to go with flashtool or newflasher.

I believe Xperia Companion can be used to reinstall the current firmware you have on your phone, regardless of whether it was the original firmware the phone was sold with.

[Q] hwo to debrand from Vodafone

I have an LT30P, an Xperia T from Vodafone. Ofcourse all this bloatware of Vodafone is installed. I have now rooted it with the method of Bin4ry and this worked fine. How can I now debrand it or at least remove all the Vodafone apps? I prefer to debrand it of course and then install my phone again via PC Companion? The version I have now is 7.0.A.1.303.

Use titanium backup (Donate version or free version from market) to remove vodafone apps.
If you restore via pccompanion you get the vodafone bloatware back, but its simple enough to remove with TB

Thanx, I installed TB but it gave me an error. With my X10 I used this method also. After a reboot, TB worked fine and I could remove all this Vodafone stuff!
Still, I would like to debrand it and restore my telephone via PC Companion with a 'Sony version' instead of a Sony/Vodafone version. Is this possible? I remember with my X10 I had to edit a system file and change some kind of country code?!
Thnx again!

Just flash a stock generic .ftf from the all in one thread in the Q&A setion. Do it in flashtool. You will be debranded then.
Also, if you have any free BT wifi on your contract you will lose it if you take out the "my vodafone" app. I get 2 gb of free BT openzone wifi, so I have kept that app.

Thnx again. Do you know whether when branded, I have to wait for Vodafone for my updates or do I get them nowadays directly from Sony when available? For example when 4.1 is ready for the Xperia T?
Which generic .ftf do you recommend? I don't mind an english version instead of Dutch, As long as it is stock and not branded. And I have my updates as soon as they are available....
BTW, what do you mean with free BT wifi? I am not familiar with that. I only know BT from British Telecom and we don't have that in the Netherlands

If you are going to flash .ftf's you can just get the updates on this site. I will link the latest .ftf files as soon as they become available.
Any of the stock generic .ftfs wil do you fine, the fourth one down in the list is stock uk generic
Yes, its a UK based vodafone offer for use with british telecom broadband, so dont worry about it.

Find a ftf file for your phone (Probably one in the all in one thread) and flash it using flashtool. Just make sure your exclude everything except baseband. That will restore your phone radio settings

yes. Find flashtool in the first post in the dev section
Flash the ftf using flasdhtool. You will be given options to exclude certain bit of the file. Tick everything except baseband so that only the radio bit of the file is flashed
And welcome back from the dark side...iOS is like swearing here...

HIiii ..
i had troubles downloading the FTF file, so after some googling i decided to make my own 1.
1- i downloaded SUS
2- updated my phone
3- got the 3 update files from the file db
4- downloaded the latest Flashtool 0.9.10.1 from th official page
here comes a problem ..
there's no toolbox in this flash tool, so i wasn't able to decrype the files, i also couldn't fine LT29i in th devices list.
after some googling i downloaded th 0.9.10.2beta6 from this forum, which has a toolbox
1- i ran flashtool 0.9.10.2beta6
2- decrypt th files
3- created the FTF file
4- flash-mode
5- connected my xperia while pressing th volume key
6- phone connected in flash mode .... stuck here
7- nothing happened after that.
so i tried to flash it with 0.9.10.1
i just didn't have the option to exclude baseband from the list.
so :
1- i went back to 0.9.10.2beta6
2- i created a FTF file with baseband excluded from the hole file
3- i put the file in the 0.9.10.1 folders
4- i ran flashtool 0.9.10.1
5- flashed the phone
6- turned my phone on
8- every thing is OK BUT i still dnt have 3G coverage
can u help ?
Have you tried just a repair via PC Companion? Flashtool seems a bit long winded when PCC should do all this for you.

The problem is the file that pccompanion is downloading for you. It has the wrong baseband. That's why you need to get another ftf file for your phone.
If you create a ftf file from your pccompanion (Or SUES) download you will still be using the wrong files.
What was the issue with downloading the ftf file?

If PCC is downloading the wrong basband shouldnt it have killed the 3G on everyones TX who has updated to JB using PCC?
IMHO I feel that something went wrong at the time of update specific to this user and rerunning the process would fix it.

No, he already tried that.
It seems it is downloading a wrong ftf file because of a corrupt build.prop or some changes made prior to using pccompanion.
If you change the device name to something else it prompts pccompanion to download another set of files.
That's how people manage to download multiple ftf files for different regions and different operators. They change their build.prop.
This is the first step in a problem solving process and if it doesn't work it could be something else, but he has stated he has already tried repairing using pccompanion

Fair enough. I cant see the post were they stated they had already tried that. I was under the impression the build.prop hadnt been touched as they stated root wasnt available to them until after the upgrade. Also I would assume TX is TX it is not like T/TL if the wrong update was pushed via PCC the deivce would not boot at all.

why are you excluding baseband...the whole point is to exclude everything EXCEPT baseband!
the baseband controls the radio.
try your FTF file again in flashtool and tick all exclude options EXCEPT baseband
let me know how it goes
Just out of curiosity have you tried: Settings -> Xperia -> Internet Settings?

[Q] How to fully restore Xperia Z1

Hi,
Im trying to restore Xperia Z1 original firmware (that can get updates from Sony) and I cant seem to succeed...
I have used flashtool but the software is just not right:
I can't use Wi-Fi, the sim is not working anymore (Im from Israel), everytime the phone get shut down - it asks me in what language do I want to use...
`I have tried using PC companion (Repair) also` but it tells me that my phone doesnt have an update.
I dont know what to do anymore
any advice?
Just download a rom for your model z1 and use, 'Flashtool' to flash the image.

I did that.
The IMEI is gone. Nothing seems to work ...
its probably because the flash version is not compatible with the baseband. Try flashing an older version (for eg. .108 version : u can get it from mega ftf thread in general section) and then after the flash, pc companion should detect and install the latest update.

You can install SONY PC companionon your PC and use that to update your phone.
If that still doesnot help, you can use flashtool which is unofficial way to upgrade/downgrade your phone.
You would need FTF from general section and also flashtool which you can get from here. Make sure the FTF is device specific or your would end up bricking up your phone
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
You can search xda for how to use it. If you still have questions, quote me and I would be glad to help

I don't know. I think it has something to do with the baseband maybe.
I never had the situation that I flashed a wrong firmware to my phone.
Are you sure you downloaded the firmware you needed?
Have you tried the repair function from pc Companion?
