LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

What's working:
This build is an official LineageOS build. Compliance with our device support requirements is enforced and guaranteed. That means including but not limited to these hardwares will work:
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth
Mobile Network (Calling, Data, etc.)
Audio
USB
GPS
Camera
Fingerprint Sensor
NFC
Etc. Check device support requirements for more.
What's not working:
Applicable exceptions granted in device support requirements.
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS.
Instructions:
Make sure TWRP has been installed and functional.
Download the latest build (and optionally gapps).
Reboot to recovery
Wipe data and cache (required if you switch from other ROMs)
Flash the latest build (and gapps)
Reboot
LineageOS updater will handle updates automatically (OTA).
If you upgrade manually from older official releases to newer releases, you don't need to wipe your data or reflash gapps.

Reporting Bugs:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/bugreport-howto.html
DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /proc/avc_msg.
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues.
Please use LineageOS BUG tracker to report BUGs. BUGs reported in the thread could be ignored due to large number of posts.

Troubleshooting and Frequently Asked Questions:
Critical hardwares (Wi-Fi, BT, Mobile Network, etc.) not working for you:
Developer has thoroughly tested hardwares guaranteed to work by official device support requirements.
It is highly unlikely this ROM itself has BUGs which make these hardwares unavailable to you.
If one or more of these critical hardwares are not working for you, there are several possible causes:
1. Vendor files or firmware on your device have been modified in an unexpected way (other ROMs may do those modifications).
In this case, please use Odin or other means to restore your phone to stock and then flash again.
2. Vendor files or firmware on your device is too old to be compatible.
In this case, please update the vendor files or firmware to the latest version.
3. Vendor files or firmware on your device is too new to be compatible.
LineageOS is actively maintained. It is unlikely that you will be faster than the developer in catching updates but this did happen sometimes. In this case, please file a formal BUG report.
4. There are BUGs with ROM but only limited to some devices.
If you believe this is the case, please file a formal BUG report.
Note that vendor firmware is NOT only the baseband and bootloader.
(Tip: Size of adequate vendor firmware package (contains bootloader, baseband AND vendor) should be at least 200MB.)
You can download vendor firmware package from https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=272468 and then flash it via Odin.
These files only contain necessary vendor firmwares. You won't lose your data when you flash them.
How's the camera?
Well. Given the hardware support is there, the camera is pretty much stable but the image quality can not be guaranteed as OEMs like Samsung use proprietary post processing algorithms which can't be made available to this ROM.
If you only use Camera to scan QR code or you don't really care about quality, you are good to go with built-in Camera.
If you want general good quality images and you don't rely on Samsung's features like 960fps slow-mo, you can try to use Google Camera port which can produce pretty decent images. (Optional: After install GCam, you can disable built-in camera so the system will default to GCam)
If you heavily rely on Samsung's camera features, unfortunately this ROM can not give you those features now and in the future.
Note: LineageOS does not provide technical support to GCam ports. Use at your own risk. DO NOT file BUG report of GCam.
How's the audio?
Speakers, earpieces, wired headphones, in-call audios, Bluetooth audio devices. Pretty much all audio hardware supports are there. But here are several things you should know:
1. Dual speaker is working but not perfect. I mean it is functional but it it not "tuned by AKG". Some apps have compatibility issues with dual speakers. If you met apps which don't use two speakers, a workaround is go to Settings -> Accessibility and then toggle "Mono audio" on and off.
2. Samsung's audio addons like Soundlive or Dolby Atmos are not available and they will not be available in the future.
Why some apps don't scale to full screen?
To ensure maximum compatibility, Google defaults max aspect ratio of old apps to 1.86 (roughly 16:9).
This is more of the app's problem instead of system's. If you found new commercial apps that are not compatible with longer screens, you can go to their Play Store page, write a review to demand support.
If you want to force apps to use full screen aspect ratio, go to Settings -> Display -> Full screen apps and choose which apps you want to use in full screen.
VoLTE, VoWiFi?
NO. It is not available now and it will not be available in the future.
Please do not spam the thread with any VoLTE, VoWiFi related requests/questions.

Thanks jesec for an official build already:good:
Hope the next build completes without errors!

cant wait for official release, been hanging to try it out

Is there any possibility of Volte working in near future? Also, Volte not working means data over LTE will work right?

Awesome as always!!
Unofficial build works great and now official!
Great work!

No. Do not expect VoLTE to work in any future version. No development effort will be put into that.
Your LTE mobile data will work fine.

what about the camera(s) compared to stock? (quality, 2x zoom, dual aperture etc) stereo speakers? thanks!

Also curious

I really appreciate this release! S9 is definitely moving on in development
Guys, considering I am 100% stock, to go for this I would install TWRP following their tutorial and then I'm free to flash this?
Following this tutorial here for twrp: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...cross-device-development/twrp-exynos-t3763464
I'm unlocked and encrypted.

And what about battery life?
Anyway, thank you for supporting the S9 so quickly.

Thank you @jesec ! Had the S8, Note 8, and had no Lineage or AOSP support. Glad now with my S9+ there is proper support!
Is there anywhere I can make a small donation towards your development of this?

Magisk does not work, not even on LOS, causes bootloop.
Camera is quite bad, seems like there is no image processing at all, variable aperture and second lens not supported at all.

I flashed the addonsu-15.1-arm64-signed.zip but I still don't get root. Magisk and supersu don't work either. Is there something I missed?

Yes, with adb... And no profit. Thank you

ROM works great but there were a few annoying app glitches (Spotify transition freezing), NFS stutter/geo-tilt freezing etc... With in time it should get better. Back to TouchWiz I go for the time being.

Fantastic and amazing work as usual ! , Great job
Good job man! Keep it up!
Nice job McFy
Hoh finally pie.. Hope this have VoLTE DD
Just kidding haha
Eh, woah. Good job!
Hats off to you.
Great work mate! Atleast someone is giving our phone some love :3 Keep up the good work... Installing right now and i will report how it goes
telephone calls works good?
proximity sensor?
and I got some problems in los 15 with black screen and failure to fully discharge the battery. ~1 year ago. Thank U
Good job, and thank you very much.
some questions if somebody can guide me out perhaps:
ok i ve seen around VoLTE doesnt work on lineage 15-16 etc but i dont know the reason why....?
im also wondering about VoWIFI, the equivalent of VoLTE but through wifi instead??? im currently on stock rom of android 7.0 on A320FL and theres an option on carrier's stock rom and its calling it wifi calling....its very very handy to be honest. Would that work on custom roms such as lineage 16 ?
Thanks a lot king! Just installed and all is working well so far. I will report any issues if found
Just had a crash while trying to change ringtones. When I want to, I can choose the "Sound" app or "Multimedia storage". First one crashes when I select a category, second one (classic UI) works perfectly.
After succesfully flashing the rom with gapps my phone would turn off after a couple of minutes in the setup and wont turn on
A new build is out with HWC enabled, thanks for all your support, batery and smooth are therefore a bit improved

VoLTE is not working on LineageOS for every Exynos devices as Samsung implemented it in a custom way on their framework and as it is on private sources, we can't know how they implemented it. Therefore until Google force OEM to implement volte in a common way it is nearly impossible to get it to work on any AOSP based rom. I won't work on it since my carrier doesn't support VoLTE for my phone and I don't need it. For voWIFI it's the same.
VoLTE is Often asked by Indians as many carriers such Jio only have LTE antenas so they can't make call throught 2G/3G network, so without voLTE they can't call, but as A3 is not sold in India I guess it's not your case . You will have to live without it if you flash my rom.

Could you be more precise like if you clean installed, tried to reflash or any extras informations.
Good work McFy! And big thanks for your investment in time and effort!
Something is wrong with the colors at LOS16.
Everything looks very bleak or yellowish, but if you switch to gray mode twice, the picture becomes brighter again.

i see, thanks for the info. well only vowifi is useful actually cause you get no issues with your calls, plus they sound great, when in areas with ****ty coverage which i happen to be in actually.
working at -1 floor with barely some signal or no signal at all then you really appreciate the help of vowifi not missing calls, sms, and generally not to worry.
ill have to think about it, other than that thank you very much.
Report Time
So i was using LOS 16 for first day and here are some results....
Installing method:
1.Fully reinstalled to latest stock from sammobile (all packages)
2.TWRP (official one)
3.Wipe system,data and install los- reboot!! - gapps(pico)
At first i want to say its absolutely amazing how it is stable ( i mean it more stable for me than los 15) , i had one freeze during whole day (i renamed my fingerprint , then go back click on trust and had like 30sec freeze of phone but it recovered) , but i was able to found some issues.
1. WiFi Hotspot is not working - i also tested disabled hardware acceleration for tether but it didn´t help , as for me this feature is extremely critical so please if you have time look into this , else i would be forced to downgrade
2. Camera app+results are super bad , app is very basic and result photo looks like from cheap camera from 2005 so much noise and undetailed.
3. I was to find that sometimes animations looks like they are stuttering in their mid-time , like it starts okay then in mid it stutter a noticeable way and then it plays out okay (im running first build so there is change that your newest build is solving that )
Besides this issues , as first build this is extremely good , thank you for the hard work and i will monitor where we can push our little device
PS: But please try to spare some time and look into that hotspot problem , its crucial for me ....
Also it is possible to just dirty install latest update without so much troubles ?
Edit: I forgot two issues
1.Network traffic thingy in status bar in not showing up at all ...
2.It seems that status bar icons are slighty misaligned , there is small gap from left (i wanted to add screenshot but right now i can´t transfer screenshot to PC)
A720F support?
i just installed the new build and it wont let me connect to the wifi

Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q: I'm on a dualsim variant and (a) sim isn't detected.
A: Try reinserting your sim and rebooting. This wierdly nuff only happens on some* dualsim variants and no one has sent me a logcat yet.
Q: My mobile data (3G/4G) is not working/only 3g shows
A: Go into mobile network settings and select/create an apn, also select 4G as the preferred network type.
Q: How does this compare to GSIS?
A: Much better all around. Faster, smoother etc. I don't think there's any reasons to use pie gsis anymore.
Q: How good is the camera?
A: Actually,(by my standards), pretty good. Almost comparable to stock. Ofc the aosp cam doesn't have the fancy filtering, features and stuff but by far not bad. Alot better than 8.1 roms anyway.
Q: Safetynet doesn't pass?
A: Yeah, i guess that's a thing. Go into magisk and download some module called props hide or something. Don't forget to run it from terminal. It should work from there
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the CSB8 vendor and fw, and try again. This has been tested. It's prolly something on ur end.
Q: I have another bug; How can i tell it to you while slightly increasing my changes of it ever getting fixed.
A: You can tell me what's going on either here or on telegram WITH A LOGCAT attached(required);if rom isn't booting at all attach /proc/last_kmsg.
Q: I don't know what/how to logcat. Is it really necessary?
A: Logcat or gtfo
Q: How can i support you?
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button;. Send the seal some fish. Seriously. The seal realllyyyyy loves fish. You can do that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

If you were running my other 9.0 rom, nah, you shouldn't need anything. Just don't forget to wipe
Telegram link not working
Using latest pie (CSB3) vendor and FW fixed dual sim problems. Even apn is ok now
What performance are you having guys ? Is it perceptibly faster/smoother/OnePlus 6t mcLaren/super Megagiga fast/ultra instinct mode than let's say v15 Soldier ROM ?
Tinkered a bit with it, its stable enough for daily use for me. Only real issue I'm having is no audio in Spotify but audio plays in everything else. Will be checking out battery life and post results later on.
Bluetooth - Good
WiFi - Good
Fingerprint Reader - Good
Face Recognition - Good
Signal Icon - Always looks empty
Spotify - No Speaker Audio (Plays Over Bluetooth Fine)
Oh as far as speed is concerned, I haven't had any issues what so ever.
Swapped from official 15.1 and got boot loop at Samsung logo, tried CSA2 and CSB3. Will try again tomorrow to see if I can figure out what went wrong.
Anyone got a fix for spotify over phone speakers?

Cannot thank you enough, you're a real legend and the only reason the M8 lives on! :good:
@bgcngm I can't believe that Android Q is really released for our m8, and it's very very and very Amazing!!
I'll try when I have time
@bgcngm You're is the best :good::good::good::good::good:
Thanks isn't enough but that's all i can give to you. Thanks a lot for this.
After installation of ROM zip file had to resize system to installed nano gapps. No sim detected with sky UK sim. Couldn't connect to home WiFi either. Seems to be smooth as butter though. Great work dev.??
Have some problems installing the ROM. First there's error 7 (image with description below). but rebooting to system the ROM runs without configure, except wifi couldn't connect.
I'm using TWRP 3.3.1, with clean flash. trying with TWRP 3.1.1, same problem.
Great work, I'm using Lineage 16 actually.
Thanks man, never thought it would be released today, will definitely install it! You are a real hero <3

It's up to you. Cause this ROM still testing, so if you want to flash gapps, you need to resize system partition first

Yeah, didn't flash gapps, there's literally no point for that because neither wifi or mobile data is working, btw even tho this rom is pretty much unusable now (I'm not complaining), I'm not gonna roll back to 16, I'll continue testing and report some bugs here.

I'll fix that as soon as possible. That's a script that's failing during the installation and causing the breakage in telephony.

Don't worry mate, you already made our lifes happier, thanking isn't enough for what you just did, here's some bugs that I've noticed to make investigations easier (don't hurry to fix them, you can relax, you deserved it)
1. Sim card not working
2. Wifi is not connecting to a network
3. SystemUI restarts if screen recording (from feature flags) is activated
4. UI elements sometimes mess up
5. Some Los features are missing (probably because of los 17 isn't finished)¹
6. While flashing gapps, it says that i have unsupported version, and asks me to install supported version for device (Android 5.1.1 sdk 22) (unnofficial gapps from XDA)
7. Battery percentage is not showing up
8. Camera jitter persists here too (this time, switching to video mode and back to pic mode doesn't help, jitter is only gone in video mode)
9. While closing app, sometimes animation fps drops (but that's probably problem of the device)
1: 1. Los dark mode is not working
2. Battery status style can not be choosen (because of No. 7 bug),
3. Sometimes features under "advanced" or any other tab aren't showing up and section is blank, however headlines can be seen
That's pretty much it, considering that this build was released today, i am not complaining about this bugs, only feature i want to be quickly fixed is sim card issue, otherwise you did a really great job
Update:
1: 4. SElinux is disabled, maybe you did not enable it in case, but reported it anyways
Update 2:
Also noticed that I can't receive files via Bluetooth, using nixplorer to share them but it just says "file not sent", i had that problem with los 16 too

Hi @bgcngm,
I noticed in Settings that the Wi-Fi MAC address is all zeros (see attached screenshot). I assume this is why WiFi won't connect? Could the device be looking for the WiFi info in the wrong path, since Android 10 uses a system-as root setup? I know that's new for our legacy device.
TWP
EDIT: Won't we also need an updated TWRP that handles SAR for zips to flash properly? That would explain the issue people are seeing when trying to flash GApps. @Captain_Throwback indicates that in the TWRP Testing Slack (he also posted a test build with it there). I also noticed that the zip still doesn't have support for "htc_m8ul" as a device variant. Is there any chance that can be added as well?

* I am not responsible for what may happen to your device, it is simply a solution that worked for me *
I found a solution for this problem the problem was in the NikGApps the shortest solution is:
1
Flash the rom first then reboot
2
Boot up, set the device normally and turn it off
3
Start recovey and flash NikGApps ( preferably the latest Canary version:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/nikgapps/files/Canary-Releases/NikGapps-R/03-Feb-2021/ )
4
Reboot.

I recommend you to make a clean install, but you can try dirty. As for stability: almost everything is stable, but I would not recommend it if stability is critical.

So, everyone writes that even if the ROM has easily discoverable bugs, BUT, how stable is this ROM? I'm trying to find a good one for a daily driver that won't let me down in an emergency but so far it seems that all the ones I've seen are either a beta or have obvious bugs even though they're called "official" The only one I would potentially end up on is MIUI.
Can it be used as daily Driver?
Netflix and other apps thar block rooted phones are working fine?
Hi, I was using LOS 17.1 for MicroG without any issues but recently upgraded to LOS18.1 for MicroG (downloaded from lineage.microg.org and verified the download). Everything works well except for the camera. Out of the box camera app freezes frequently and then I tried Open Camera and a another camera app. Open Camera is a bit stable but still freezes regularly. Problem is worse when the camera app is being called by other apps.
I note that this has been reported in LOS forum but wondering whether there is a quick work around for this problem.
Many thanks.

Hi, actually this is the wrong thread to post it.
But your solution is to replace new cam blobs with oldcam blobs and flash a kernel that is made for oldcam blobs.
I am attaching the oldcam blobs file for los that can be flashed through recovery. But note that you must change the kernel afterwards that supports oldcam. Otherwise camera will not work at all.

Thanks very much for the response. From what you are saying, I feel it may be easier to just downgrade to LOS17.1 which I was using before? I guess the other option I have is to wait for the next update to see whether the issue will be fixed in that release.
Thanks for your suggestion and clarification.

i am also using los Q because i find it the most stable one. I m using loscam patch in Q as well for better video quality although.
And the camera issue wont get fixed until and unless someone takes over the development of los. currently it has no maintainer and tge builds we get are automated with los source side changes, not device side changes.

@Walden0, I thought I might give your suggestion a try before downgrading to 17.1 version. Can you please clarify the following?
1. To add the old camera blob, I could install this zip via Yellowfox Recovery?
2. How can I find out which kernel will support this oldcam blob?
Many thanks.
I have never heard of yellowfox recovery but if its based on twrp then most likely it should be able to flash the zip. (maybe you mean orangefox, if yes then you can flash)
The kernel should have "oldcam" or "old" in its name.

Just being color blind!!...of course, it is Orange Fox Recovery!!
Interestingly, after I did my post, I just opened Settings->Apps->Camera and pressed 'force stop'. Then I started Open Camera which is what I normally use and so far it appears to be behaving OK. I tried a few still shots and one or two short videos - no freezing as yet but it is too early to know. I will keep testing over the next couple of days and see how it goes.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Just to report that the work around by disabling the Camera app so far have fixed the problem.
Any one who has the same problem may want to try out the following steps;
1. Go to Settings->Apps->Camera->Force Stop
2. Then use an installed app such as Open Camera
Note this is not a permanent solution but a work around and this has to be done each time the phone is rebooted.
EDIT: updated to 6 Dec 21 version and the camera behaves even worse than with the initial install! The above fix does not work anymore although it worked most of the time with the November update.
This ROM was abandoned, pitty, much more polished than official https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...8-1-for-redmi-note-7-lavender.4381893/page-10.
But both suffer from the same issue: no Mass Storage Gadget so that UMS can work to make memory as USB drive.

No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.
I have weird issues with camera (wrong resolution, issues with flash etc.)
Тhis could very well be an issue with the included camera app. Try a third party camera app.
Will you fix the bugs? Will this version ever go official?
I've already fixed everything I was able to. The main drawback is that our linux kernel 3.18 has become too old. Our devices starting showing their age. Because of this version will not go official.
My hardware keys light up whenever I touch the screen
Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Illuminate buttons only when pressed'. You might want to reduce time on the scaler to 1 second, too.
How to switch to full screen gestures
1. Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Enable on-screen nav bar'.
2. Navigate to Settings->System->Gestures->System navigation and tick 'Gesture navigation'.
I need help with google camera

Nice to see this out, great work
Great job as always.
im glad there's still hope for a little bit of support for our rusty device
i know this is pretty ridiculous at this point but i really hope this become another galaxy s2 situation where despite how old the device is.. it still get more and more versions despite its age
Yea, but the S2 is more of a tinkerers device at this point, A5 is still usuable (at least on A11, broke my screen before I could test 12 :C)
Possible update with simple TWRP install (wo delete data) from 19.1 Unofficial? (I think yes.)
Very nice rom ....smoot and stable
Which one is better LineageOS 19 or LineageOS 20? Which one is more stable for daily use? Or is just LineageOS 18 stable enough for daily use for now?
How is the battery consumption? How is the camera?

I also think yes, but no one has tested this already. Note that you would surely need to reflash the same gapps package you were using before right after the new version flash.

I can't tell this for certain. It totally depends on your usecase and preferences. There aren't any unresolved bugs coming from previous versions (other than mentioned). Some people say however that the rom runs slower than the previous versions, especially with gapps. For me personally it was still ok.

Not worse than before with lineage at least. For what it's worth, there is actually a new lineage camera app now. And we were getting some good battery life results during the testing.
thanks for the update.

the gapps is not available for Android 13. Does it have Google apps?

What does Network traffic monitoring do? I switch off Mobile data and WIFI for many apps in the app settings. Without Network traffic monitoring, does it mean that separate app Mobile data and WIFI switching off will not work reliably? Or is it completely unrelated?

I focused mainly on fixing rom bugs, so I haven't had much time to investigate the google apps situation.
But yeah they exist. They can be found using the link in the thread.
Flamegapps, Nikgapps and perhaps a several others are there for android 13 already.

I believe that is unrelated. It is literally broken monitoring.
network monitor does not work
backup doesn't work properly
why is the battery mah 3600?
nikgapps go doesn't work properly
issues :
using qr scan notification panel causes settings to crash, HDCP checking causes minor lag, SRGB doesn't work , network monitor does not work, nikgapps go doesn't work properly, backup doesn't work properly
