[SOLVED] Is it just me? Stuck on Android 7.1.1/Nov 2017 Security Patch Level - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

So, when I go to try and check for system update, it says I'm already up to date. I have the stock 7.1.1 (RETUS/Non-Fi) Retail XT1900-1, (re)locked bootloader. Has there been no official OTA after November? (I did try to manually flash other builds/Oreo/Fi ROM/etc. but flashed back to 7.1.1 stock/Nov 2017 since Android Pay is something I use and other ROMs didn't let me use that). Did I miss something while flashing back to stock that's borked OTAs? [Tried wiping through stock recovery, through TWRP, etc. no difference) Any answers would be great! TIA!

Answer: Looks like it was just me.
Update: Fixed it! Reimaged stock from September 2017 and OTAs began to work! Right now OTA updating to 8.0. So happy!

Your OTA worked with TWRP installed?

Nope. Still on stock recovery. Since the stock recovery is nowhere to be found for this device, I have refrained from flashing TWRP (I had only fastbooted TWRP, never installed it on here).

Security issues, what version do I need?

So I followed rootjunkies tutorial (also blocks OTA updates i think?) to flash my prime version to the stock version and now it's at v6.4 and Android security patch level says: June 1, 2016.
Is this fine or do I need to upgrade, and if so how do I go about upgrading from here?
Cheers

I did the same initially. I suggest flashing back to 6.1 stock (complete 6.1 out of the box flash from mrmazak's thread) then flashing one of the 7.4.2 firmware you can find here. Use SPFT and it couldn't be easier.
My 7.4.2 shows October 5, 2016 for security patches.

Cheers, I just followed Rootjunkies rooting guide and unlocking bootloader guide (forgot if I had already done this). Then I flashed this ROM in TWRP:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=...fd3611a23c42ce769cb77d93e058695a15ec394a2e136
And it worked fine. It hung in the flashing part at the start but I waited it out and it installed. Then I reflashed the superSU zip again.

Does that one have the OTA updater still enabled? Can you disable it without root? I was thinking about trying that one. Glad it worked out for you.

Not sure. It's probably disabled for a custom ROM.

FYI, October 5, 2016 patch level is the same as the non-Prime V17 OS.

Yeah I actually ended up going with a V17 firmware.

Does this update conflict / do I require this update?

Good day all,
got a new OTA rolled in for my Droid Turbo, though I already have a clean flash from MM on this device.
The following update rolled in which failed to install per TWRP recovery (ERROR 7)
What exactly is this update?
Has to be installed with stock MM recovery, OR flash the full stock firmware, twrp version, in twrp (3020) worked for me. Don't forget to wipe caches, data unnecessary.

But I do not want to re-flash my firmware. Especially since this update is only 20+ mb it is not large enough for me to re-clean everything and restart it all. Stock recovery is the only solution?
Stock recovery only for tbe OTA. The OTA will likely fail if the ROM isn't pure stock. Flash the twrp version and wipe, and you'll only need to reload any ROM extras. Root with the beta SU after a simmered restart. It seems to like a settled ROM better. Update SU via PlayStore at restart.

If by re-clean you mean re-delete system apps that you don't want, that will be inevitable. The OTA will not install unless system is 100% stock, and the TWRP package will reflash everything to 100% stock. So either way, if you want this update, you'll be re-deleting some system apps.
However, if you're worried about losing userdata, don't. Neither the OTA nor the TWRP package will touch that.
As for your original question of "what is the update," it's just a security patch. It updates the android security patch level to January 2017, and it makes it so phones with locked bootloaders cannot be unlocked (but it will not re-lock and already unlocked bootloader).

Thank you for the info on the update. I will not do the effort for a patch like that.

The day before I saw the update notification, but didn't update as I wanted to backup some of my files. Later when I checked for update the notification was gone. Says phone is upto date with March patch.

Hi all,
I've just applied the 01 April Security Patch and my phone has rebooted into TWRP. If I select to reboot, it starts to reboot and goes back into TWRP. Any ideas as to how I can get it to reboot back to normal ?
So I'm basically stuck in a TWRP Bootloop
Thanks in advance

Hi, you should know that you can't get updates via OTA once you have modified system, and unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP is certainly a system modification, so I really hope that you made a TWRP backup before trying to update. In case you didn't, try flashing official firmware using fastboot, also there is one post in XDA with a TWRP backup in case you messed up, if you can't use fastboot or don't have a backup, try using that one. Remember to NEVER update via OTA unless your phone is fully unmodified.

Latest firmware compilation version

Hello. I have my device rooted and twrp recovery but with stock firmware. I have updates but i dont want to bootloop.
Can you tell me latest compilation number so i search it in firmware databases please? My device is a xt1772 Nicklaus.
I am in same situation, My Owens has Nov 1,2018 security patch firmware, I flashed tTWR recovery and rooted.
Now new firmware NPRS26.58-45-19 comes out with Jan 1, 2019 security patch. How to get it flashed?

If you take the OTA then it will bootloop because you have a custom recovery. You have to go back to stock recovery and then take the update. After you update you will have your bootloader locked again and you will have to unlock it earesing all data in the phone. Then again flash twrp and root.
Thats why i wanted the last official firmware so i do it only once since updates are cumulative updates...
If i have no response about it, i will return to stock recovery, take all ota updates. Then unlock bootloader, flash twrp and try to restore at least the data since you cant recover system otherwise you will return to a not updated firmware.
Thats the only thing i think its possible.
Btw i edit the thread because mine is a nicklaus e4 plus version.
Cheers!

Thanks for reply. I think I can find stock recovery in stock firmware package.
However do I need to unroot my phone (which I don't know how to)? or simply leave it rooted as is, do OTA after stock recovery flashed?
Stock recovery then take ota maybe More than one since are cumulative. Then Flash twrp and root again.

Stock Boot image Android Pie?

Does anyone have or can provide stock boot.img for either 2020 jan or 2020 april SP update?
I'm stuck trying to get OTA updates, since mine isn't stock. I tried having stock on slot A or B, but doesn't work now.
Thanks!

Stock Pie or factory stock 7.1.1 N? Does it mean I have to reinstall everything? Apps and settings?
I should make a backup of the boot before I root'n sheet.

There is a stock pie image around here somewhere, if I am not mistaken? Could be flashed without losing any data also.
