Downgrade back to 5.0.1 from 6.0/7.0 for full root. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Not sure if anyone care or still want to go back to 5.0.1.
It is possible if you download COMBINATION_VZW_FA50_G925VVRU4AOJ1 (Google it yourself its free out there.)
After flashing combination file you can root it with kingroot then replace it with superuser ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989 ), then you can use flashfire to flash 5.0.1 rom.
You will need to keep the sboot/bootloader from combination file i order to boot with 5.0.1 kernel.
Anyone know if theres good rom that will still work with this method? I tied some stock root rom ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ment/rom-stock-rooted-g925v-vru1aoc3-t3115121 ), it seems to be missing some file after flashing. It boots up gets signal, but it is buggy. If anyone know if bugs from flashing this way cannot be fixed then let me know so I can stop trying .

I flashed the COMBINATION_VZW_FA50_G925VVRU4AOJ1 tar file but how do it install apks so i can use kingroot. unless you have forum to share with me

I haven't used the XDA forums in over a year. I don't know if I have the courage to downgrade from 7.0 to 5.X

Something similar for me honestly. I just downloaded the firmware stated, did the steps and it seems to have worked fine. Even with root, I honestly liked 7.0 on this device. Dang locked BL. :/

You can install apks using ADB -- I think you can get it from Android Studio or try https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
Once you have ADB installed, just connect your S6 to your PC, open terminal, and run "adb devices" to confirm your phone is visable
Then to install an apk, have it downloaded on your PC and run
"adb install {path/to/apk}"
Example:
adb install Downloads/NewKingrootV5.3.7_C197_B451_xda_release_2018_06_19_20180620193529_242043.apk

I don't really think there was a 5.0.1 ROM designed for the Revision 4 bootloader outside of the Combination Firmware. I think this may be a reason.

I know this is old. But I come from a s8. So we should be able to even though rev4 bootloader flash any 5 System IMG. The bootloader from the fa50 combination should suffice to boot any lolipop system since they are not incremented

Correct, you just need the bootloader and kernel capable of booting the system up. This is how I was able to use any of the LP AP Build/System on my rev 3 Note5.
All the LP builds were rev 2. But I had a LP bootloader and kernel. Realistically someone should try, but you might need to root the combo firmware first and use flash fire/flashify/safestrap to flash the system image. Because ODIN might not let you.

Yea Odin pushing the rooted firmware with combo boot was patched on s8 about the same time. But now where using edl to push a rooted combination file with su flash fire and safestrap.
My s8 is running a bit 5 nougat combo which that bootloader is reserved for Oreo and pie. But I'm running a rooted system IMG I made up from a equivalent rev2 nougat system and runs fine other than 80% charge limmit on the newer combos. Even my j3 limmits to 80 on combo. But I found a hack to charge to 100% I got posted in the s8 threads. I'm gonna try this over the next few days. If there's a eng bootloader with permissive kernel nougat should be able to be rooted too.

The question is, what did you do to.modify your stock rom to be able to boot on the combo bootloader? I'm still a little lost on that.

This is what I was asking about though. I still can't get anyone to explain how to make the stock ROMs work on the newer more locked devices. It's like a big secret or something. But it is possible on the S6, Note5, and S8. Probably the S7 too.
But 5.0.1, 5.1.1, and 7.0 are built a lot differently and I imagine the method is different.

* G925VVRS4DQD1 * Full Odin Nougat 7.0 Firmware *

Hello!
Here is the full G925VVRS4DQD1 Odin manual update to 7.0 Nougat for everyone to enjoy. You can flash from any current version you have now it doesn't matter whether you are on 5.1.1 or 6.0.1.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862722630
If for whatever reason you want to downgrade or don't like 7.0, you can safely downgrade to any of the below versions without any issues. After you flash a lower android version using Odin, phone might get stuck on Verizon logo. If that happens, all you need to do is boot into recovery and do a factory wipe/reset and phone will boot right up after that.
G925VVRS4CQA3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700500
G925VVRS4CPL3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298921946

G925VVRU4BOG9 (5.1.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347845467
Thanks a lot! I downloaded one from sammobile but there was one only one file, modified date 4/07...
I notice the files within the zip from your link mention REV02 and are dated 4/26.

@toutanje Out of curiosity, how did you determine which builds you can safely downgrade to from 7.0? Is it something you personally tested or did someone recently go through the hard work and post their results somewhere? BTW, you can now add G925VVRS4CQA3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700500 as two people have confirmed downgrade success here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/help/downgrading-nougat-t3601096 . One used firmware from sammobile and the other directly from the link above. This is the very last build available for Marshmallow.
Hi there. I installed the new update on my s6 edge 7.0 via verizon software updating tool.am noticing the sound quality of mt s6 edge has been changed.before the sound quality was thick and now its not that thick anymore.i want to bring back the thick quality sound on my s6 edge.there is setting called sound quality and effects but i cant manage to get back that sound quality i had with 6.0. Is there anyone who able to notice this change in the sound?

With a very a simple observation, no testing or anything needed
G925VVRS4DQD1 <-- you see the 4 towards the end of firmware build? That is the revision bit number. This means you can flash ANY firmware for that model with a 4 or higher. Take this 5.1.1 firmware for example ---> G925VVRU3BOG5. Even though this firmware is also 5.1.1 like the ones from above, this particular one will NOT work because it is on an older firmware revision bit (3).
The same is true and goes for ALL Samsung phone/tablet models and firmwares.

That is very good to know. Yeah I noticed it about the firmware naming convention but I had no idea what the value means (or the character before revision bit, U has become S). My phone out of the box was on G925VVRU3BOG5, so I guess I could go all the way back to G925VVRU4BOG7 if "needed" lol.
One of my fears about Nougat is about all the work they did to automate and place updates into the background. This could allow disabling of downgrades, or anything else at the discretion of Samsung and/or the carrier. I think this has already been done in Marshmallow, just on a smaller scale for security fixes. Anyway, it seems to me like an attack vector waiting to happen: less control over my phone combined with an easy way to break things. Imagine all the troubleshooting fun we will have.
So I upgraded to nougat. I'm having battery issues and just want to go back to marshmallow. but I'm having problems. The nougat rom installs just fine with odin. But when I try with any of the 6.0.1 roms it was failing. Then I noticed that re-partition was chcekd. So I unchecked it and now it goes through the process just fine. But now the complains with dm-verity verification failed. I can install nougat on it no problem. It's just the downgrade that's not working... any clues?

I actually managed to get the N925V to downgrade all the way back to the firmware version G925VVRU3BOG5.. May have cost some money for some very specific files but my phone's back on G925VVRU3BOG5 and it's really only a test phone for someone I do work for! I have it rooted with SuperSU and not kingroot and I created a script to keep the phone set to "permissive" so it's able to do full reboots and not just hot reboots using xposed... Unfortunately it seemed like no one cared about it when I posted it in the other thread so it's probably not worth it to a lot of people but I think it is with the amount of fine tuning I did to get it to where it is today!!

Mike! Can you explain how you did it? I'm stuck on nougat. Every time I try to downgrade, I get the dm verity error. I've tried all the 6.0.1 version and the 5.0.1. No luck . I'm back on nougat. Can you please let us know your process... Thanks!
Did you have to select anything special in the options? I just left it at default which is Auto reboot & F. Reset Time.

I was able to use this to flash my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from 5.1.1 to 7.0.
Not that I want to upgrade again, but is there a 7.1.2 available? Is there a routine schedule for that sort of thing or was the 7.0 Nougat think kind of a special case?
Thanks!

I use the Z3x box and Octoplus box I have 2 of them for different phone makers but I have so many different wire connectors that I lost count because what works on Samsung doesn't work on LG, HTC etc etc.. You can find them pretty cheap but I'd avoid buying from eBay because of to many scams selling broken or bad boxes that can't be activated.

You unfortunately cannot downgrade the bootloader once you updated to 6.0.1 you lost the ability to go back and there's so far, no way possible to do it.

[ROM] [7.1.1] Stock Rom for J320A/J320AZ/J320AG

This is an unrooted 100% Stock J320AUCU3BQI5 firmware.
Working on all exynos j3 models!! (You first need root and to flash with flashfire)
AG models will probably need to enable oem unlock in dev options.
Download
As I said no root, but you can always downgrade back to mm if you need root.
Btw the eng_ root kernel won't boot the system, but it will let you mount as RW and you can edit things thru adb... someone figure out root on this thing!
Thanks to @Iurop for testing AG
@DamienMc thanks for assist me and help me. My J320AG now works with Nougat 7.1.1 without any problem.

Hi lurop thanks for your reply! but i have another question to flash nougat file do i have to root or i dont have to
Hi, yes you have to root the phone following the method posted above. Then install flashfire and use it to flash the rom.
Have you do something similar already?
If you do not wish to root and your device is the A or AZ model you can update with Odin.
I fixed and uploaded the full firmware @Iurop provided. You can find that here
Finally got time to mess around with root...and unfortunately we do need a new eng_boot.
But fortunately, like I mentioned, we can still use our old eng_root boot to acquire a root shell.
Btw noticed this Rom does not update stock recovery. I'll package up a fix for it tomorrow, if anyone actually cares

I wonder if I could port this to the J320FN?

I'll update the rom one day, but this patch is the easiest way to update things...
To apply you must use your pc, use Odin to flash the included eng_root kernel. When it boots the logo will remain onscreen, after two minutes or so you can click the recovery.bat and let it do its thing.

Isn't eng_boot.tar just a boot.img? Could we extract build.prop from the Nougat ROM and the boot.img from the firmware to update the Root_J320A.zip in your root thread?
@DJJosephJumper
That method will work, we just can't boot while rooted with the stock boot. We need a permissive boot. if you edit that root like you mentioned, it'll only boot to the logo with a working shell. Su commands work there, so it will with with permissive.
Eng_root will do the same, boot to logo only with a rooted shell

Safestrap was patched long ago. Its a waste of time.
There is newer versions of safestrap, we can write over the recovery I have done it with enyox version of twrp it doesnt boot but it flashes with flashfire,
we can also set selinux to permissive I believe this is all we need to get a safestrap to work. booting normaly might not work, might have to boot into "recovery mode"
everytime and let the safestrap boot into system for a custom recovery and roms to work, but it is a possibility.
there is also a newer similar version of recovery like safestrap called Fish I believe
someone should look into Fish and or at least compile a safestrap version before you go and say its not possible.

There are newer version but for old hardware. The exploit safestrap used in the first place was patched on lollipop. It won't work on versions after that. Unless it's been renamed. But safestrap is not for newer devices. It won't work.

If anyone was looking here is the note 8 kernel released by Samsung

N950U is on the second page
I also noticed that if you use flashfire you can flash over the boot.img and system.img,
I know someone will say it's because I used a boot.img from an update.zip, but you need to realize that the flashfire apk doesn't check a signature so it can't tell if it was a custom boot.img or a stock boot.img
I also noticed in the root directory a default.prop file that shows oem_unlocked=1
I have the snapdragon with stock rooted firmware.
Safestrap? Wow. Talk about a flashback to the Droid Razr days.
I bet we will soon see a "Help! I Bricked my Note 8!" Thread from the OP soon. LOL
Lol nope I am not going to brick my phone

I was waiting to get another Note 8 that I could chance bricking...but haven't jumped on it yet...I was trying some of the same and almost bricked my main device so I took a breather...it would be nice...the unlock tools also show that we have oemunlock=1...it's pretty neat but so far away...

Hi. i need urgent help regarding downgrading my galaxy note 8 from pie to oreo or nougat. i am using android pie from last 1 month. some of my apps stop working so i decided to downgrade from pie to oreo. i had downloaded oreo firmware december 2018 version from sammobile and tried to flash with odin 3.13.1 but it failed. i had tried different versions of odin but every time flashing stuck at set partition nand write start.i always run odin as administrator. i also tried to flash different firmware version like sept version of oreo but still it failed. i downloaded nougat firmware from sammobile. it flashed normally and i was happy but when my phone restarted i was shocked. my device was factory reseted but with android pie version. it looked flashing nougat only formatted my device. i am tired. i tried every damn thing. i tried changing usb port, tried differant usb cable, reinstalled device drivers, made sure that usb debugging is on , even tried on differant pc. but no result. then i tried emergency software recovery in smart switch. if i connect my phone switched on then smart switch discover my device but when i connect my device in download mode then smart switch says that device not supported. i contacted service centre but they say they do not downgrade the device.please please please someone help me. i am attaching a screenshot of odin stuck at nand write start.

Unfortunately you can't downgrade. Once you have flashed a higher bootloader version you are stuck with it.
If you are on bootloader v5 you may be able to downgrade to the last Oreo build, I am not 100% sure on that though.
Only if they are same bootloader

You need to be rooted to be able to get that working again, some roms also have that patched already...
Although the thread is about the s7 I believe it is exactly the same for our note 8.

I dont want to root again.... rooting will not let banking apps work.moreover if i wanted to root. Root files for note 8 pie are not available right now. I installed patched app but it does not have heart rate monitor and spo2 which renders heart rate sensor useless.... thats why i am so desperate for that app

As far as I am aware it is not possible without root.

You can flash TWRP, copy /system/build.prop to the PC or SD Card, edit it on the PC, put it back in /system.
Once you are done, just flash stock revovery via TWRP.
It sounds hard, but it's eazy if you know what you are doing. Banking apps will still work, and with build.prop edited s health will work too.
I am not gonna walk you trough the entire process but this is a summary.

Oooh that, it's nothin.
You just need to hold volume up + bixby and power just before the phone auto restarts from download mode. When you do that it will boot twrp.
If you don't understand it go watch MaxLee on youtube, his method of flashing twrp on s8/n8

The way I know it, there is no way without twrp or root, and you said you don't want root because of banking apps.
If you flash twrp, do the thing with build.prop, and then flash stock recovery, you could still recive OTA updates and banking apps will work.
You just have to set up s health before the next OTA because that will revert built.prop back to normal.
But as long as you set up s health before that it will be ok.

That was downloading s health 4.8 version install it and open it. It will stuck at loading screen. Update it and it will work fine. Earlier i get it working that way when my device has oreo version. But now after pie update when i try to install any s health apk before version 5 that is 4.5, 4.7 or 4.8. I always get a message app not installed. After version 5 app get installed but again with root problem. Can u help me with installing old version. I dont know why s health old version is not getting installed. I had some other apps that are now discontinued. That apps get installed easily

The reason you can't install the modded version is because the version that was modded is less than pre-installed version on the device. As of now, you can't downgrade apps, only upgrade. Your only option is to wait for someone to patch a later version from the version you got installed on your phone.
I think someone can even just change a number in AndroidManifest.xml install it and then just upgrade.
I'm sure a patched version will pop-up again somewhere on xda, just make sure it's later version than the version pre-installed into the system.

Good source for firmwares?

I'm looking for a good source of firmwares, i know the famous sites but some firmwares doesn't seem to be listed. I know in the time os Samsung KIES there were tools which communicated directly with samsung.
For example these firmware builds for the SM-G975Ux aren't listed on most firmware sites but have the December secutiry update with binary/bootloader version 8: G975USQS8IVL1 and G975USQS8IVL2
All the big sites have ROMs for that phone (same one I have). There is no "Ux" model... it's *U or *U1, with the latter being unlocked. IF you search for U1 ROMs you have many selections, but most get the XAA version which will usually change carriers automatically based on the SIM card.
The latest BL=8 version I see there is https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...M-G975U1/XAA/download/G975U1UEU8IWB6/1741280/ which is the February 2023 security update. I believe this is the last one we are getting (but I could be mistaken as there may be 1 more security patch, I don't remember).
There's U U1 0 W F N .... I'm looking for the oldest firmware with binary version 8, but it seems the sites don't show all firmwares available.... i'm looking for the oldest firmware with U8 bootloader (or any compatible bootloader with binary 8 version), i could have a look at all sites and try my luck... but they don't seem to have all data. but like i said i prefer some original source xml files... i saw some url's to original samsung servers but can't find them anymore.
There is already a firmware available with the march update.... but you have to be lucky to find them... i'm looking for original sources. like update.zip's and such
Found the first one....

I'd recommend around sammobile and samfw. These are the two sources I use the most

Can anybody help me further?

if i flash a new rom (whether original or custom rom) nothing happens after the reboot... download mode works too, flashing twrp works too! however, the system boot does not work via twrp either... not even a bootloop, the cell phone does not react at all! the task combination for
Right now I don't even care if I get the original firmware or a custom rom running... I hope I didn't brick it (((
My old device was a G930F, its unbreakable make sure you flash the right rom and wipe data and dalvik cache after flashing.... THis ons is locked so it doesn't have fastboot. My G-930F came with fastboot enabled so you can always fastboot a recovery.img. like TWRP
Did you try to download TWRP from twrp.me and "fastboot boot twrp-3.7.0_9-0-herolte.img" ? it should boot to twrp in fastboot mode (hold volume down + home + power).

1. is your KG status is broken?
2. Is your bootloader unlocked?
You know how to flash lineageos through twrp right? and how to use odin?
Maybe flash lineageos to see if everything works.... and then revert to original software. Be sure to wipe cache/dalvik and userdata

Yes, I know there are many other variant firmwares out there, but for a U phone (snapdragon) there is really only U and U1... the rest are incompatible.
There is no "older" firmware with binary 8, because the firmwares are packaged with the proper/compatible binary already. Basically, the "binary" is the bootloader version. On Snapdragon phones, you must have the proper BL/binary to flash, as you already know. You can't interchange the binary/BL with the ROM and security updates because they are not made that way.
The update.zip you're looking for are updates sent by Samsung directly, and they can update the ROM (and Binary) from one stock version to another... but, again, they will update both the binary/BL as well as the ROM, so they can't be broken up to only do one or the other.
It sounds like you're trying to get to an older ROM version (for whatever reason) with an older security patch level as well? Basically, this cannot be done on Snapdragon phones. Once you're on an updated binary/BL, you're stuck there (at least today you are).

I solved the problem! I had unlocked the bootloader, but I also had to deactivate verity via CMD with twrp+adb "adb disable-verity"
ok i've solved the problem now, but does anyone know why i couldn't even start the original stock roms? Actually, the stock ROM should set everything to factory settings...

I've tried different firmwares, its all about snapdragon. You can also flash SM-G975W parts and other snapdragon variants.... there's a lot of variants out there.
I first upgraded and then downgraded to the parts i wanted and am on a rom now with security patch level December 2022, as long as the binary version is the same there's no problem. I've got the latest modem installed and the oldest firmare and bootloader for the latest binary version, i can upgrade or downgrade my bootloader. I already asked someone before if this was possible and if he could confirm because before i was only able to flash CSC and AP i think.
If there's no updates comming anymore why not downgrade and wait for a new leak
I'm also sure we can unlock the bootloader, i'm trying to make an lposed module. I've installed lspatch and lposed and they work fine for some modules. The bootloader unlock has several prerequisites (properties and such) if i can make it look for other properties or something like that we might get an unlock option. Also it looks for an encrypted file on EFS, if someone with an unlocked samsung phone could copy that file we would be a lot further.
It's called /efs/sec_efs/sktdm_mem/encmembership.txt and should be an encrypted file, also if anyone knows how to set ro properties without root (like a stub before the preference controller starts) this would be very usefull.
