Confused with substratum?! - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

Hi @ all
I own a xz2 (oreo 8.0) and want a full black ui, so I searched and found a solution on xda, called substratum and andromeda project.
I followed the instructions and the connection was established.
And then i found a substratum theme and compiled, but after reboot the ui didn't change... All was same. I tried to activate overlay because it was showed all green and up to date, but nothing happens
Normally the substratum based on Sony theme engine, but i couldn't find any Sony theme for substratum, only for Pixel, Samsung and vanilla Android.
Should i root, or is there a special way to change my xz2 into pure black system?
Greets Chris

Same for me, no change at all...

Somewhat usable
The official app from Play store is worknh, but the navbar is white in settings. Here take a look.

How the hell you got it work.... I've download the official app from playstore... The substratum and the andromeda app.
And i tried "sai's theme", compiled and reboot.. But I couldn't activate ???
With the white navbar i could live ?
That's strange that this don't work for my xz2 ??

I have rooted with Magisk. Have you?

No, I have not because it should work on stock Rom unrooted...that should be the advantage of substratum.... but thanks... That's the reason why it won't work ?
So I will root ?

You need use app : Navbar apps

Substratum working fine on XZS Oreo unroot. But on XZ2 look like anything i bought before to use on XZS useless on new deivce. And Substratum's developer said theme not support Sony device.

The problem is that substratum themes aren't made for our Xperia so many things are wrong or unthemed.
That's why I'm working on my own theming engine, here's the result at the moment.

I have Substratum working on my rooted XZ2. There are only a few apps that don't theme, mainly Sony
I use Google phone Bubble edition instead of the Sony one just so it themes.

Looks good aswell, especially the font looks stylish!
I use an mix now out of swift black, swift dark, etheral & domination and ingot nearly anything themed by now, except the dialer...but i'll test the google phone bubble edition, thx for the tip ?

I use Swift Black, I wish Pitch Black would work, think I'll have a play as I own a lot own themes from Nexus 5x (which still works perfectly)
I wrote instructions on fonts one theme section btw.

I just bought a brand new XZ2 Device and am trying to use substratum, but when I connect my xz2 to my MacBook and try using the Andromeda client to connect, My phone says there's an app blocking it so settings cannot see the connection, Any idea o what I can do, to get Andromeda to connect to my XZ2 without rooting my phone?
I'm new here so I wish I knew how to attach images so I could show it visually

you have to flash all the three root packages to root your device, but since there are no availiable recovery for Z2 486_MM_beta rom (even for unlocked bootloader devices), which means you won't able to use a recovery after flashing this ROM. Thus, its better to back up your important partitions first, such as TA. and if you did anything wrong, you can still unlock device to flash a twrp recovery and flash some packages quickly. Finally, restore the TA partition and all done!
Thank you for the rom I have one question, the unlocked camera, is the 2.0 included in the firmware? And the quality is a lot improved like the camera included in mm firmware? I have this question, because expecially in auto, I notice in mm the camera improved a lot. And the 2.0 camera is without bugs. Thank you

We dont have Contact to Sony and this is also something different. I fully understand @niaboc79 reaction and if the Creator just asked Niaboc79 im sure there would be no Problem. Its just to respect others work and is the least everyone can do. We use Sony ROMs as Base so sure we respect Sonys work. Android is Open Source and we dont have any Option to Contact Sony either. If a Developer on XDA uses others work its not the same as we can contact each other on XDA.

rules are set by xda authorities, so we should follow these rules because we are members of xda, but sony isn't, and these guys are also not members of sony, either, and that's why the can share the sony's ROM to xda while we cannot share their shared ROM in xda which comes from sony.
that's the reason.

EMUIMIX CM VERSION ALPHA 1 RELEASED
The rom is done 80%, it boots, but I need someone to test it with his phone too to be 100% that everything is working.
Features of the rom: EMUI VERSION
What is not working:
-Wifi(sees all networks but when I try to connect it fails and says: The connection to"network" has expired. The connection has failed.
-I have a problem with Huawei Swype Keyboard. At first boot when I try to type something the keyboard doesn't show. After skipping everything in first boot of the os you need to go to -Settings-Advanced Settings-Language and tiping methods-There you press on Default Keyboard, then select Google Keyboard or how it's named, I forgot.
-Bluetooth- same problem as wifi; maybe even worse, whe you press on Activate bluetooth, after 10 seconds it goes off again.
I have not tested everything because at the same time I am working and on The CyanogenMod 12.1 EmuiMix. This is the Modded Emui EmuiMix.
I do not not when I will release the CyanogenMod EmuiMix, I'm kinda mad that I need to fix the Wifi and Bluetooth, and on CM I need to fix A LOT
So please, if anybody can test this ROM or help me to fix the Wifi would be great.

Already TRIED that. Result=> Black screen after firstboot setup. You can access settings, etc, but no launcher. And I tried with Google Now Launcher.
And changing FULL system UI is a waste a time. I'm just finishing this custom rom version because it was already done from one of my older projects.
I want to finish this custom rom and continue my CM 12.1 EmuiMix, bcause that is my main project.

Hehe, you need to have a device with similar specs, and no kirin620 chipset device runs at this moment EMUI 5, and to make 4.0 look like 5.0 you can just download a theme and set it in the hwthemes app.

[Zip][Flashable][OPP2] -{NOT A FULL PIXEL MOD}- O-DP2 Pixel Launcher

THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED TO DP3. NEW THREAD LOCATED HERE https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/themes-apps/zip-pixel-mod-o-dp3-pixel-launcher-audio-t3619253
This is just a simple zip to bring the Pixel Launcher to the O-Developer Preview 2. This is not a full Pixel Mod. This is the Pixel Launcher from the Pixel XL O-DP2.
This version has the new notification feature (tested on O-DP2. I can't say about 7.x) and it is working. Make sure to grant Pixel Launcher notification access.
While root is unavailable, you an use Gladiac's FED-Patcher to make this mod work. found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/fix-fed-patcher-v8-forceencrypt-disable-t3234422.
To revert back to stock just flash the system.img in TWRP. If you want the stock boot.img you can flash that in TWRP too.
As always, make a backup before flashing anything and doing this stuff voids your warranty and what not

One quick question though: are you planning on porting other pixel features too? I really would like the tinted navbar back. And night light if possible.

I do plan on porting other features over. I'm sure other people will be able to get it done quicker than I will though. To my knowledge, these ports are still unavailable as they require decompiling apk's which is unsupported for the Android O apps. Hopefully soon though, but there's some speculation that we'll have to wait until the final release

Thanks for the heads up! I think im going back to 7.1.2. the little hickups here and there, lack of tinted navbar and night mode and the newest safetynet problem on the latest build (019) just don't outweigh the little additions that Android O bring just yet.

If you have magisk working, you should be fine without FED Patching. The goal is to modify your boot.img, and root does this too

I would, but the ability to do this isn't available yet. This requires modifying apk files, and Android O apks do not have support yet with apktool. Speculation is that we'll have to wait until the final O release to have support

Go clear Pixel Launcher's data and cache, then open the whatever File Explorer you put background (so that you won't have to open PLauncher and trigger the icon settings once agsin) and replace system/framework/framework-res.apk w/ this one I uploaded.
work on pure nexus 7.1.2 r8
First of all thanks to OP.
EDIT:
Working perfect.
On 7.1.2 with Magisk v13 and Pixel Luancher works but it does not show up in the Notification Access list to grant it permissions so the notification dots do not show up on the icons. Any ideas? TIA

My initial thought would be that the notification feature would only work on the O Preview. Notification badges were listed as a new feature of O, which leads me to believe the available of the notification dots is only in Android O sadly

Hello guys i wanted to ask that has anyone tried substratum's rootless add-on for oreo to use custom theme. I can't decide on which phone to buy. I am stuck between Galaxy S8 and Nokia 8.
