how to lock the messenger app - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys how can I lock the messenger app with my fingerprint without using third party apps because it doesn't show up in the list :/

1. make sure that you have enabled "Access to blocking app" in Fingerprints manager(settings -> ID fingerprint-> manage fingerprints - >third option in page).
2. Go to Phone manager app scroll lower icons to left to get "Locking apps" option.
3. First time it will ask you for creating pin, enter it two times.
4. select apps that you want to protect using fingerprint.
5. close all apps and lock your phone for 5-6seconds(just normally lock it and wait).
6. After that everytime when you want to open those apps you will be asked for fingerprint.

Yes dude I know thx but my problem is that Facebook messenger app doesn't show up in that list, am I the only one ??

Well you should say that its Facebook messenger... As far as I know facebook and its side apps never worked properly.
I dont use it so I dont know if its visible on the list. What I can say is that all my apps are available there so its not like App lock it self is bad.
Try to block facebook too on the list, or just for test download those light version of messenger. God know how bad their apps are and maybe it will force it somehow...

In my device it appears but I don't have Facebook installed, and the messenger is the Lite vertion.

Tried it on Lite version and it works.

Search installed applications in Google Now stops working

Are any of you having issues with the Google Now search of installed applications? I have the checkbox checked in the Google Now settings (Settings -> Phone search -> Apps- Names of installed applications), but sometimes this just stops working until I go into the settings again to uncheck and check it.
This also happens with my Contacts

Yes! This just started for me a couple days ago. The only thing that setting you mentioned above does for me now is search THROUGH installed apps for hits, but no longer brings up the app itself. Unfortunately your fix of checking and unchecking doesn't seem to do the trick for me (I'm on a Note 2).
For anyone who's not familiar with this behavior, it's a really nice feature of the main Google Now bar everyone should have on their home screen:
Punching in part of an app name in the Google Now bar pulls up hits including the app itself.
It's very convenient to for example turn on your phone, type in "Scan", and get as the top hit the Genius Scan app for example (you might only remember the "Scan" part of the name of the app).
Or type in "Face" and the Facebook app shows up. (Partials work.)
It's very similar to the iOS left-swipe search, the Windows 7 Start button, and OSX Spotlight.
Hunting and pecking through the app list is for chumps.
After today's Google+ update patch, this issue is now resolved.
same problem here..

[Q] HTC One AT&T - Can't install 3rd party apps even when enabled in settings

Ok so this is weird as hell, and i've already called HTC about this and they provided a little bit of help.
First, this is my first official Android handset (Why the hell did I wait so long omg?) after kicking Apple to the curb, so I am still learning all the tricks and shortcuts, but I have a fairly good knowledge as to how the OS works now.
My Issue is I am unable to install 3rd party apps. I have the APK downloaded, I have the option in settings to allow 3rd party apps to install, and when I try to install it takes me to the install screen showing me what the app will have access to, and has cancel and install at the bottom. Cancel works, as well as show info, but the install button does nothing. I've tried from the download section, as well as ASTRO File Manager.
HTC Mention double checking to make sure third party app install is enabled (I can't even get to the install screen otherwise so it obviously is) and they mentioned to do a soft-restart by holding down the power button until it completely reboots.
Here is the kicker, after doing the soft-restart for the first time, I was able to install the Humble Indie Bundle Beta App. Worked perfectly fine. But now that I have downloaded the games from that App, I am back to the same issue before where I can't install the APK's and the soft-restart isn't fixing the issue.
I've goggled the crap out of this and haven't come across really anything like this, except some mention that AT&T Blocks third party apps, but it looks like that was on older HTC phones, and since I was able to install 1 third party app, I don't think that's the case. Any help would be appreciated!
*********** TLR SOLUTION ************
If you can't install 3rd party apps, after having checked the option in settings, remove the "Google Settings" app, and then run your installs. If you are using a new install for the first time, pick Android Installer and not Verify and Install to avoid issues. Scumbag Google.
Re-install Google Settings at your own risk afterwards.

Google recently installed a new "installer" package from the store. I think it was called "verify and install". Anyway, the first time I tried to install from the Amazon store, it asked me which installer to use - Android or the new google installer. I chose the second program (always). After that my programs would not install. I had to remove that program and then the next time I made sure that I selected the default Android installer.
I don't know where the new installer came from. I didn't ask for it to be installed.
Anyway, check your apps list and see if that is installed.

Just searched all apps installed for both install and verify. There is nothing under verify, and install comes up with Certificate Installer DemoFloPackage Installer and Package Installer, all with android icon's, so they appear to be default stuff. I'll definitely keep looking though, thank you for the tip!
Edit: Your suggestion game me the idea to see if there was another installer application on the appstore that might work. I tried Easy Installer and it still just installs using the regular (or I suppose default) installer, which leads me back to the same problem =(
Do you have any apps like Lux Autobrightness or screen filter running or similar? If you do, that is your culprit. Those apps act as an overlay to your screen (that's how they adjust brightness) and as a security feature the install button is disabled when an overlay app is being used to prevent an overlay app from being able to hit the install button. It works after a reboot because the app has not yet started running.

I do have twilight installed (Like F.Lux) but it looks like stevedebi's original assessment was correct. The app is "Google Settings" attached is a screen cap of the culprit.
I unlocked my bootloader to install cynogenmod (decided against it) and when I went to re-install all the apps, the "Android Installer" and "Verify and Install" option came up, and once I saw the icon was the same as google settings, I opened it up and there was the verify options down at the bottom.

Thank you for this info! Completely forgot about this and was getting frustrated when the install button wasn't working..
I tried the whole "deleting the screen filter" app thing. It works momentarily after I "soft" reset my phone, but only for one install.
Every time, I have to reset my phone, so something else is in the way.
My phone is not rooted, if that helps at all. And it's an AT&T galaxy s2.

Samsung Pay update broke the app?

When I just ran the Samsung Pay app (I have used it before and have credit cards already configured in the app), it told me there was an upgrade and asked whether or not to install it (I first then checked the Google Play Store and no update to the app by the way). Then switched back to the app and selected to accept the upgrade.
Now whenever I run the app, it tells me I need to add a backup PIN and has two buttons - "Cancel" and "Register". When I tap on (#1) "Cancel" the app just closes (go back to the beginning of this paragraph). When I tap on "Register" (#2), it says to use my fingerprint to get the pin keyboard. I put my finger on the reader and then it tells me it read the fingerprint and is launching the pin keyboard - then it shows nothing but "Cancel" or "Register" buttons again. If I tap "Cancel" - go to (#1). If I tap "Register" - go to (#2). Endless useless loop. If I kill the app and relaunch it - go to the beginning of this paragraph! I went back to the application info - and there is no option to uninstall the update - just an option to uninstall the app altogether.
Anybody else run into this?
Nobody?
you should try it from the beginning, uninstalling and then reinstalling the app or clearing the data from app info..in both cases u have to enter ur credit card details again..
Tried the app this time and the problem went away.

Change language is the trick. Worked flawless! Thank you.
Anyway to do this with some Xiaomi apps, like Music, Videos, etc? I'm thinking to root to disable them, and to install a 3rd part locator on system partition, because "Locate My Device" don't activate my SIM card.

I'm going to try this option; the other option in the first post requires you log in your ggogle account and I do not have one - this requirement should be added to 1st post.
[EDIT] Disable is still greyed-out... (root required?)

Question Can't use google maps app without login anymore?

I'm not sure if this changed with the Android 12 update or if I missed it happening before. Suddenly, the maps app is logged in and I cannot find any option to logout / use without an account. The normal account management does not seem to show any options to control which apps can use which accounts either. I see the "incognito" mode but I really want to force it to logout, like I would with Chrome. I don't want it to easily revert if I am letting someone use the maps app briefly.
i noticed that if i go to settings and scroll to bottom it has
sign out of maps.

Gmaps has been a mess for years. I never update them from the factory load on my N10+, same for Gmail.
Android 11/12... yeah they broke those too, bad.
Best thing to do is not let others use your phone.
It will save you grief in the long run... or share everything.
Thanks, I found that logout option after disabling incognito mode again. But, it looks like it is just as easy to log back in as to disable incognito with a couple clicks. So I also see the point that it's really not setup for easy sharing/lending...
