How to rebrand any P10 Plus to vky-l29c432 (dual sim) for beginners - Huawei P10 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

NB :
- Repacked the HWOTA8 files so you don't have to download stuff you don't need
- Added oeminfo files link
If this tutorial does not work for you, use the ****** tutorial, just Google it.
ONLY WORKS ON VKY MODELS!
I created this thread for people like me who found it difficult to follow the other tutorials, guaranteed to work from oreo to oreo.
This is a simple tutorial for beginners on how to rebrand vky-L09 to vky-l29c432
A. Files needed
1. Download the original vky-l29c432b360 firmware from the firmware finder website
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G2325/g1699/v120287/f1/full/update.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...87/f1/full/public/update_data_full_public.zip (Rename to update_data_public.zip)
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...l/VKY-L29_hw_eu/update_full_VKY-L29_hw_eu.zip (Rename to update_all_hw.zip)
2. Download the HWOTA8 repack package https://drive.google.com/open?id=12zXvow8pz8osj-XYMMfY5jRNyKQDFZNg
3. Download minimal adb and fastboot https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569952951
4. Download twrp from https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850499350 (rename it to twrp.img)
5. Download the vky-l29c432 oeminfo files from https://forum.xda-developers.com/p1...32-oeminfo-t3590134/post71874883#post71874883
B. Tutorial
1. Get your bootloader unlock code using DC Unlocker or the Huawei official site.
2. Install minimal adb and fastboot, open it. Switch of your phone, press volume down and plug in USB to enter fastboot mode, while in fastboot type 'fastboot oem unlock your-unlock-password'
Something should pop up on your phone, press yes. The device will automatically restart and format. After that the bootloader is unlocked.
3. Enter fastboot mode again, move twrp.img to c:/ directory. After that type fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk c :/twrp.img. Everything should go through. After that you have flashed twrp custom recovery.
4. Enter twrp custom recovery by pressing volume up and power till you reach twrp recovery. While in twrp go to back up and back up oeminfo (2 times) on SD card.
5. Copy the 3 downloaded firmware files from the firmware finder website (update.zip, update_data_public. Zip and update_all_hw.zip) to HWOTA8 folder in MicoSD card.
6. Go to the downloaded HWOTA8 package and extract only (hwota8_update.zip and MHA_Recovery_NoCheck.img to the HWOTA8 folder on SD card.
7. Replace the oeminfo files from twrp > backup from SD card with oeminfo.emmc.win and oeminfo.emmc.win.wid5 from the vky-l29c432.
7. Go to twrp recovery again and go to restore to restore the new oeminfo files, after that go to wipe > advanced and wipe system only. After go to install and install hwota8_update.zip from. The HWOTA8 folder in SD card.
8. The phone should restart and install vky-l29c432 firmware
9. If it doesn't, unlock the bootloader again (if locked) and then flash twrp recovery again, then restore the oeminfo again then install hwota8_updatezip.zip from the HWOTA8 folder again, it will boot now and install vky-l29c432b360.
10. You're now done. Enjoy your rebranded vky-l29c432.

Hi
New user and new to tinkering with Android but tech savvy (i think).
However i am stuck on part 6, the two files listed "hwota8_updatezip" & "mha_recovery_NoCheck.img" do not appear within the HWOTA8 package? Unless i am going completely mad?
Inside the HWOTA8 package i have update.zip, update_all_hw.zip and update_data_public.zip (which are of course the same as the other 3 files you had us download).
Also i have a "vky_recovery_NoCheck.img" but not the mha one?
Sorry for newbie questions

So, it doesn't seem to work if you move the "HWOTA8 FILES REPACK" folder straight to your sd card. You actually have to rename/make a new folder named "HWOTA8". Found out the hard way.
So, the install fails at 6%. Any ideas?
I do have a VKY-AL00, chinese p10 plus, but it said for any. Restoring the oeminfo seems to work fine. Install also works, but fails at 6% every time.

I never said move the folder, read the tutorial properly

Hi friend.
I'm trying to rebrand and I followed all the instructions but, when the eRecovery screen shows up, nothing happens.
My second oeminfo backup file is .md5, not .sh2 like the one you shared to replace.
I'm on P10 Plus C636.
Thanks!

yes, I tried once wiping it only before the first install and once wiping it before each install attempt. TWRP also remains on my phone after the first install, only the bootloader is locked again. As soon as i unlock it, the phone boots to twrp. Do I need to wipe some other stuff too? I did try flashing a bunch of other stuff before I found your posts.

HI, thanks for your great help.
When I try to install the "hwota8_update.zip" it gives me following info:
"Zip file is corrupt!
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/HWOTA8/hwota8_update.zip"
Is it correct that I copy the "MHA_RECOVERY8_NoCheck.img" file twice and rename it to "VTR_RECOVERY_NoCheck.img" and one to"VTR_RECOVERY2_NoCheck.img"?
I tried it several times?!
Any idea?
Thanks a lot

Updating ROM after Unlock, Root and TWRP applied

Hi, I am preparing for updating my L09 rom to newer version - B182 and I got some uncertainty regarding the following matters - what are the steps to take before attempting the update with /dload folder method
1. I have unlocked phone. Do I need to relock it back to stock?
2. I have TWRP recovery. Do I need to revert to stock?
3. I have root. Do I need to unroot?
4. Would these steps wipe my storage?
5. After update rooting back would wipe the phone - is that correct?
I tried to find answers in other threads, I found answers not clear and I will be grateful if someone could explain the correct procedure to me.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, after couple of hours of reading through different threads I got to the point I decided to update the rom, which finished successfully.
I took the following steps:
1. I unrooted the rom with SuperSU unroot option (choosing “no” when asked about replacing boot image). Than the phone restarted.
2. I created “dload” folder on my external SD card and placed update.app file containing latest rom there.
3. I restarted my P9 holding Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously. The system begun to update – finishing after two-three minutes with restart of my phone.
4. The system was updated without wiping anything – so settings, passwords etc. were preserved.
5. After the update, my bootloader was replaced with stock and was locked. And I got no root anymore.
As I am happy with the result I wanted to share this experience with others who as me are searching for the simple answers for these very basic questions.
Cheers!

I want to do the same, go to full stock. I already have B182 version and want to try the public beta.
Did you flash the stock recovery?
the steps are:
1-unroot(i will do with the toolkit). dont need the stock recovery?
2-put the dload folder in sdcard and flash
Nu9, I am afraid I don't know the exact answer... I suggest you to post your query on one of Nougat beta threads. I think you shall find there the answers.

So you updated the device even when you have TWRP? strange.
I used the same method when I debranded my device. After flashing twrp and oeminfo files, I simply created the dload folder and manually flashed B136 release, and immediately after that B182 release. Worked perfectly.

Yes - correct. I guess it works only if you got full rom image in "update.app" file. Mine B182 was something about size of 2 gigs.

Relock bootloader

Hello everyone. I am new at this site and i want your help to relock the bootloader of my p8 lite ALE-21.
I took the unlocking number from huawei site, i locked it but now i want to relock it because sometimes in apps like facebook it's a little bit slower (not much). Can not install any update package.
I tries to relock it by using this command " fastboot oem lock " or "fastboot oem relock" but i get the same message that is saying that is FAILED. So if anyone know what can i do to relock it just reply to thread.

I don't think bootloader is causing your phone to slow down also you can still update your by sdcard.
.
For relocking I think you need to type that code too. The code which was used to unlock the phone.

Try typing fastboot oem relock (without code).
By the way it isn't worth relocking your phone. It won't just boost your device.

Hi!
bootloader unlocked don´t have anything to do with rom performance!
Unlocked only allows to change rom images.
New updates came with better performance, like B600 ( dual sim ) or B601 ( single sim ).
To flash a Huawei ROM you need to have a Huawei recovery, not TWRP.
How to do a force update.
Use PC, download the rom, extract the update.app file from rom.
Create a folder in sd card with name dload.
Copy the update.app file to inside dload folder.
Turn OFF the phone.
Press vol +, vol - and power at same time and wait to installing finish it!
I let you here the default Huawei recovery. -> recovery.img

To be perfectly honest, when I updated from LP to MM I noticed the phone was considerably slower... Try using the phone tools to limit apps running at start-up and/or do a full wipe.
One thing I did find useful on my LG G4 after several phone flashes was to do an SD trim (fstrim on Google play), this forces the phone to wipe and free up the partially written nand blocks

Wrong build number - How to reflash ?

Hi !
I have a NEM-L51C432. I recently installed the new update available (B357) using Huawei Firmware Finder.
Due to some issues, I then decided to rollback to a previous build using the dload method. I succeeded, although I can't recall if the one which worked was B350 or B355.
The problem is, my build is still B357 in the "About phone" menu even though I have the March security patch.
I also noticed that the clock app is missing. Moreover, I get a notification telling me that apps are non-compatible with my phone when I install/update them, even though they work fine.
I can't update system apps (like Chrome or WebView for instance) due to different signature.
I have no idea if these things are related.
So, can someone please tell me how can I get my phone to display the correct build number and eventually correct the other issues in the process ? I'm ready to wipe and re-flash if I have to.
Side question, when I download from HFF in order to use the dload method, most of the time I have the choice between one, two, or even three zips to download.
Each contain a UPDATE.APP file, but I don't get the same files when I extract from it, depending on the zip I downloaded.
Can someone explain me this as well as which file I should prefer (update.zip or one of the other two if available) ?
Thank you.
You need to flash all 3 files via dload.
There is a detailed quide in my signature for dload method. You can flash b350/355/357 or above using that.

Thank you for your answer.
Do you mean I need the three zips from HFF ? For instance, if I try to download B355, I have the choice between these :
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1581/g104/v84990/f1/full/update.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...90/f1/full/public/update_data_full_public.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...l/NEM-L51_hw_eu/update_full_NEM-L51_hw_eu.zip
They all have a UPDATE.APP within them, but they don't have the same files when I extract. What should I do ?

Okay, thanks.
Today I tried re-flashing the update.zip file of all versions via dload, even MM versions. In the end, the only one which worked was the FullOTA-MF-PV of NEM-L51C432B350. All other versions failed to install at 5 %.
I don't know if this is related, but this is the only update which is available as "PV", whatever that means.
In any case, as I said in my first post, my build number is still B357 (while it should be 350) and I don't have the Huawei clock app. Some system apps are impossible to update as well. Plus, this will probably cause issue with future updates...

Pv is something you can flash via twrp. Regarding misssing apps, flash the smaller file, around 600-800 MB, via twrp and it will restore apps, themes, fm radio etc.

Can't flash the update.zip with TWRP (at least, with OldDroid's). However, I did managed to get back missing apps by flashing the second zip file, thank you about that.
Doesn't work with the third one though, and my build number is still wrong. Any idea about how to fix this ?

Which build number you flash and which is the one showing?
yes, only 2nd file will work and bring back the missing apps.

In the end, I solved the issue by extracting the VERSION.img file from the UPDATE.APP of the third zip and flashing it with TWRP.
I then updated to B355 and B357 with HFF proxy.
Weird thing is, the B357 update re-locked my bootloader and when I unlocked it again, I was stuck with an old version of Google Play Services which couldn't be updated (different signature issue). Luckily, I had a backup from the previous update but this is weird.
Thanks for your help. You've done a lot.

[GUIDE][ROOT] how to root your P9 LITE MINI

I did not find a subforum dedicated to P9 lite mini version so I will post this guide here , as I know that many users that have this phone wish to have it rooted but don't know how.
I apologise to mods in advance if this is wrong place to post this.
Before I start, I will tell you that I am not a programmer and that I just followed a guide to the letter that @txmt5 told me about. So all credits go to him.
Lets start:
0. Make sure that your phone has USB DEBUGGING enabled.
1. a) You will need unlocked bootloader. There is simple official solution to get unlock code by huawei. Just go to their website , UNLOCK tab and follow instructions.
b) Once you get unlock code just use this simple tool by @Mandrigan. BE WARNED : use only unlock bootloader option as other options may brick your phone.
There is also an option to use cmd but I found this one easier to follow and it worked anyway.
Once you unlock your bootloader your phone will give you a warning about it before every boot. This is normal for every device just that some keep silent about it
2. Just install magisk app by @topjohnwu from here. As you do not have costum recovery (as far as I know it is still not developed for our device) you will not be able to root it as usual but it will require additional steps.
3. Get an original unpatched version for your frimware from here. It is really important that you find a right one. It will use the same code that is written in your "update info" in settings so it is easy to find.
4. From the update.zip file you hopefully downloaded in step before you will need to extract BOOT.img file.
To do this use huawei update extractor app by @worstenbrood. I personally use version 0.9.9.5 and extracted only BOOT.img .
It may look like it hangs on full green bar once you extract it. If it hangs for more than 5 minutes it is safe to cancel it and take the BOOT.img file it created. This happened to me and it worked anyways.
5. Put the BOOT.img file from previous step on your device and use magisk on it. It will create patched_boot.img that you will transfer back to your PC
6. Download adb fastboot tools (put patched_boot.img from previous step inside that folder) and HiSuite (just for huawei drivers)
7. Connect your phone to your PC and go to fastboot tools folder (from previous step) and shift+right click anywhere in that folder and take open CMD window here option.
The commands are as follows :
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
after it reboots input
Code:
adb fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
Your device should be rooted now
You will have root permission but you will not be able to use any other fancy magisk repo app as you do not have TWRP or other custom recovery. And there is really high chance that you will have to repeat this whole thing after every update (it is just my guess) .
I really hope that this guide will help someone
P.S. I wish to thank all people that I tagged and let them know that it was not my wish to spam them but to give them proper credit.

I am really glad that you find my guide helpful.
When you go to magisk->install you will need to patch boot file.
Since wedo not have custom recovery you need to provide a path (impossible)
to BOOT.img file so magisk can patch it.
So you just put boot.img you downloaded to phome or sd card and provide path to it

I don't understand!
I don't find any "Install" option. Since TWRP is not available for this device, how to proceed?
Can you give me more details?
Until now, I flashed a "ready to be flashed" pre-rooted kernel and I owned SuperUser rights.
Now I want to patch a self-made one. How can I do?

What a dumb I am! I forgot to say you that the phone is offline. To understand better my issue, you can read here.
I never thought internet connection was necessary. For now, I have neither a data plan nor a wi-fi internet connection. Is there a way to solve?
Thanks for your patience

I got it now. All you have to do is not type adb fastboot and just type fastboot flash...
Also another problem that I'm having with rooting another p9 lite mini is that I can't get the bootloader unlock code from huawei anymore. Any solutions? Huawei seems to not want to give you the code anymore.

Bootloop on pra_lx1 p8 lite 2017 oreo twrp and hurupdater issue

Hello everyone.
Last night i am tried to update my EMUI 5.0.2 Pra-lx1 p8 lite 2017 phone to the Oreo update 8.0.0.322 downloaded from Team TMs' huawei firmware finder.
My phone is allready "Bootloader unlocked" and "FRP unlocked" there is no problem. I can reach to TWRP( there is a huge problem i will explain it).
on the top of my way i got EMUI 5.0.2 and i unlocked the bootloader and FRP.
then i installed the EliteTWRP-3.2.1.
after this i downloaded
HuRUpdater 0_3.zip
and the 3 neccesery FullOTA-MV-OP files that includes the
update.zip
update_data_full_public.zip
update_full_PRA-L11_hw_eu.zip
then i do everything exatly on this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
and voilla!!! i got the Oreo update installed.
BUT....
i dont get the file manager app its lost!
i can not get themes or get in any of huawei apps sign in or get in!
so for this. my next step is goint to do reflash the oreo how i did it again.
BUT....
i can not do this because the instaled TWRP does NOT support OREO. Applause for this
so i'am tried 3 different TWRP that can be used on HUAWEI phones.
First one is this i dont know who is the developer but ists intercafe is chinese or korean.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rlQPRP234PoXY_yqup3oK_joOZGSIker/view
i tried to instal this over adb fastboot. BUT I can NOT. Because Oreo will do this on RAMDISK_RECOVERY!!!! WOOOWWWW
i did this and i reinstaled the oreo update like i did it first but in this new TWRP.
İt flashed my OREO but on the bootlogo the HUAWEI opening sound curropted before finished the sound and gets to restart.
after restart eRecovery opens and give me TWO funcional choises!!! Like Jig SAW
anyway...
the first option is DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION AND RECOVERY
BUT for my chanse!!!! or mean bad LUCK!!! eRecovery WiFi doesnt see the EDUROAMs ACCESS POINTS WELL RIGHT!!!!
so i passed the first one and we are on the MAGICAL point.
the second option is the WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
on this time i CAN NOT DO THIS BECAUSE THE ORGININAL RECOVERY PART IS GONE!!!! YEAP I CAN NOT DO FACTORY RESET.
WHEN i choose this option it will go to the TWRP recovery nice huh!? NO.
so what will i do i know my phone is not BRICKED YET! İF THERE İS TWRP THERE İS HOPE!
BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT SHOULD I DO RIGHT KNOW
please help me....
with this Recovery (TWRP)( not usefull beacuse you can not use them )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/p8-lite-2017-development/recovery-recoveryoreonocheck-install-t3777974
i found this under a members signature and i give a try but it wont work this gives me just a big error
But this error gets my phone a factory reset after than i flashed this Recovery (better then the chinesee korean languges type one ;D )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/p8-lite-2017-development/unofficial-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-t3773970
and i tried to flash the Oreo update again with HuRUpdater_0_3.zip
but now I am at the begining. System works there is no issue over hardware.
But there is missing system apps like File Manager. Themes and so on....
And the best thing is The BUILD NUMBER is 8.0.0.046(08TO)
BUT I flashed the f*ckn' 8.0.0.322!!!!! WHY GOD!!!! WHY!!!!
Could anybody iluminte about what the hell is going on right now please i need to know why is why
Dude you need to rename the files before you put them in the folder
HuRUpdater 0_3.zip --> just delete the number (HuRUpdater.zip)
update_data_full_public.zip --> update_data_public.zip
update_full_PRA-L11_hw_eu.zip --> update_all_hw.zip

It would, main issue is that HuRUpdater is made for many Huawei phones not just for prague, when you flash the HuRUpdater.zip it can only flash the update.zip because you don't need to rename it. It doesn't flash the other zips because they're not named correctly, hence the updater can't find the zips to flash.

there is a misunderstood i allready rename the 3 update files. i used two times the nocheck recovery method and works well but the issue is the same. i only dont rename the hurupdater file. i will give a try now.
Let me know if it works, if that doesn't work for you too I can't help you but I just uploaded the stock oreo erecovery to GDrive and you can download it and flash it to recovery_ramdisk partition (because you are on Oreo) then make a factory reset or go back to nougat https://drive.google.com/open?id=157C0CI5CqSEzvQRB7Yt5K1WPtYBcaO08
EDIT: I didn't read it right sorry that you can't connect to wifi. Try wiping data-cache-dalvik-system on TWRP and then flashing the HuRUpdater.zip
You may also have a bad download, I mean one of the zip files you have may be corrupted

is this issue are from that my phone is from another region instead from europe? If you get that build number issue on nougat it might be about your oeminfo partition. Try flashing PRA-LX1C432 oeminfo on this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/8-lite/how-to/share-oeminfo-t3740734
Beware, it locks your bootloader, so unlock it after you flash the file. Then start erecovery and download the nougat firmware to get your device ready for Oreo, then flash the HuRUpdater.zip . I hope this works!

I don't think it changes the IMEI. I had a pra-lx1c464(Turkey) and I rebranded it to c432 I had no issues with it. It will change your device to Dual-SIM though if you have a single SIM device, which has no effect at all. I can still use my bootloader unlock code, and I have used it many time again and again after rebranding the device. Also you're trying to install PRA-LX1C432B322 Oreo right? Your device should be branded as PRA-LX1C432 first

I will give a try flash the oeminfo c432 then try to flash nougat with nocheck image.

After flashed the oreo the build number dont changed and the themes not working file manager also not excist.

Have you tried to reset the phone to its factory defaults . In this way I fixed missing apps problem .
I tried factory reset over Recovery bu it doesnt changed any thing. Then i tried the factory reset from the settings of the rom. Same result.
I just installed it manually. I have the 8.0.0.46 (08TO) but I don't have any issue, I have apps and themes..is it correct the version not should I expecting something different?
Please let me know
Same build number as in my settings. Themes wont work because regional issues. When i change phones language to english themes apps works well. Thats the themes app i admit it but.. in the other hand i dont get the in games(i dont remember the original name of it) app comes with oreo. I dont have the huawei login future anymore i think this is because of the unlocked bootloader not tried to look again then do a factory reset. I can not rebrand my phone. I know because when i flash europen oeminfo or not if i install the stock emui 5.0.3 again it says no build number against test keys . On the other side i can use my phone well i dont have any problem. And i forgot to say i dont even the file manager i installed the hidisk apk that i found on internet.
My advise is dont do this to your phones wait for a official update. But for us this is a long hard road
