P9+Android6+EMUI 4.1+fRomFutureNewWorld V4 - upgrade to Android7/8 - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
A year and the half or even better just after I purchased my P9 I unlocked bootloader, rooted and went for custom ROM (fRomFuture - NewWorld V4) the only one available and 100% working for P9 at that time as I remember. I got this system since then and I must admit it works pretty well surprisingly without any updates. However I just received work smartphone (Moto G5) which supports dual-sim and realize this is good moment for upgrade my P9. I just took read P9 7.x/8.x ROM's flashing installation descriptions and I feel dizzy....upgrading EMUI, changing partition type from FAT to encrypted ext4..... uff... I already flashed my P9 with custom ROM but back then it seems much much easy with Android 6.
First of all how could I check my firmware version ? With NewWorld ROM I don't see this kind of info.
Second - from what I read I need to update EMUI first from 4.1 to newest ,correct ? Do I need to know my firmware version for that or upgrade could be done (on already flashed system) via Huawei official software ?
I'd like to go for [ROM][8.1][OpenKirin's RROS Oreo v6.0.0 for instance. On Moto G5 I have to install 64bit TWRP and ARM64 Gapps as well - is this the same story with Huawei ?
Make this story short - what step should I take to upgrade my unlocked, rooted P9-EVA with Android 6,TWRP and NewWorld ROM to something newer like even Android 7.x but prefer 8.x because it seems to be working much faster than 7 on my Motorola.
Thanks for help and sorry for lame questions

Flash stock firmware using dload, update to the latest firmware then flash the custom rom you want.

[ROM][PE-TL10] r7 - MoDaCo Custom ROM [EMUI Style]

I'm pleased to present my MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Honor 6 Plus PE-TL10!
READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE YOU START! No, really, it contains everything you need to know.
About MoDaCo Custom ROMs
MoDaCo Custom ROMs are based on official ROMs. A MCR release is designed to feel like a stock Emotion UI ROM with optimisations, tweaks and complimentary additions that enhance the user experience. The aim of a MCR is to be ultra reliable for use on an everyday device.
This ROM is part of the 'Unified Honor ROM' project - ROMs with the same changes are available for all current Honor devices.
A MCR version with a more 'stock Android' like interface is under development.
Requirements
In order to use this ROM you must have a custom recovery (e.g. TWRP) installed. The ROM is installed at your own risk. A wipe IS recommended if coming from a ROM other than MCR or stock. BACK UP YOUR DEVICE BEFORE INSTALLATION!
Features
Based on the B521 custom ROM starter template (you may use MCR as a base for your own ROM)
ROM fully optimised with the unique MCR scripts
Updated power management policies to reduce instances of 'missing notifications'
All apps in ROM updates to latest versions (a considerable saving of over 1GB on /data!)
Busybox installed
sepolicy patched boot image ready for root
selinux permissive
Removed 'icons' from /system/themes (themes no longer need to include default icons again)
MoDaCo Custom Kitchen (coming soon!)
Multi user support
Multi window support
Preloaded Stockify theme stub
Numerous other small refinements - please see the gitlab commits for full details
This ROM is completely in version control at gitlab! https://gitlab.com/u/paulobrien/projects
Want more tweaks and changes? Post your requests in the support topic.
Changelog
Please see the post below this one for the changelog.
Installation
You should install this ROM on a device that has previously been updated to the B521 release.
To install this ROM:
Download the zip file from the links below and copy to your internal / external SD card.
Restart your device in recovery mode
PERFORM A BACKUP FROM THE MENU
Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to the SD card.
Important Note: As this ROM is partially deodexed, first boot can take a long time. If you have not wiped, you can check for any issues with adb logcat. Be patient!

Future Updates - READ THIS!
By providing this ROM I am not guaranteeing that future updates will follow. Due to limits on my time and the fact that I have a large number of devices for short periods of time, it isn't possible for me to continue providing ROM updates indefinitely.

Paul, thanks for this release. There isn't much Marshmallow material around to simply flash on this device.
Keep up the good work.
On which version of Android is based this ROM? Android 5.1 Lollipop or Marshmallow? Thank you!
Marshmallow!
More cool features coming!

No bugs.
After running a few days as my daily driver;
- Far less Wakelocks
- Good performance
- No bugs so far.
(Compared to OTA B521.)
I looks like I am the only one in the world owning a 6 Plus. By the way, still a very competitive Budget flagship, I must say.
Normaly the first "new custom rom" that can be normally flashed, gets the post "smoking" with replies.
Early days. The good stuff is yet to come. ?

Nice to hear. It might be 10 years ago that the first Modaco rom got flashed on my device. (HTC Touch? or Qteck 2020?) Old Scool.

I started with a Qtek S100, then a E-ten glofiish X500, followed by a HTC Hero as well, then another HTC, then some stuff from China like ZTE V987 and ZTE V5 Red Bull. Then I bought a Honor 6 Plus from China, but since last week I own a Oneplus 3
Now I'm finally upgrading the Honor 6 Plus to Android 6, so you're not alone anymore
Just updated to a Chinese version 6.2.1, but now I'm thinking of installing TWRP and MoDaCo.
(We probable both posted in the Honor 6 topic on Tweakers.net)
Paul, thanks for this ROM! I think it's really good. No bugs found at all and I like how clean it is. Like almost vanilla marshmallow
Yesterday I already had everything setup, but made the mistake to deinstall HwStart (I didn't now that's the Huawei launcher) with titanium backup. It wasn't possible to get it back with a restore. Then I didn't have a launcher anymore and then the system wouldn't reboot anymore.
So I did a new clean install this morning and everything is now fine again
Thanks paul for this nice clean rom!! Hoping for future updates =). The phone is running very fast and clean!

Can i install at Honor 6+ PE-UL00?
I would really like to flash this (coming from a MotoG2013 flashed at least 100 times...) but I received my PE-TL10 just a few days ago (3 ).
But I'm a bit worried about the "battery drain" issue with MM official OTA (and other small things...)
Did you manage to solve that? The battery drain I mean.
Keep up the good work and thanks for your effort Paul!
I flashed this rom with TWRP and i had Emui 3.1 and now it bootloops. Is this compatible with emui 3.1? Cause this is my 2th try to flash and fail. And is there official emui 4.0 for h60-L04 europe?
is it worth to flash it over my version (Official PE-TL10 C900B520) or not?
Cause it works flawlessly with the stock one

You're saying you flashed this on a h60-L04? I think it is meant for the PE-TL10 and therefor it bootloops on your h60-L04.
I did a clean install of this ROM on my PE-TL10 with TWRP and it works flawless.
I have the B520 variant, is it possible to install this ROM over it?
Or do I have to make other changes before doing that?
Thanks in advance

Best ROM to flash on EVA-L09 ?

Hello guys, I bought my Huawei P9 back in December 2016 and since then I only used official EMUI 4.1, official EMUI 5.0 and I am currently using the NewWorld-7 by Tecalote, but I am now looking to change this.
I need you guys to suggest me the "best" if I can say ROM out there for the P9, kinda doesn't matter the version. Only a few notes: The ROM must have a working Camera, GPS, Fingerprint, Bluetooth, etc. (as much things working as possible).
Because I want the ROM to have as less bugs as possible I am thinking of installing the official ROM, probably B378 (or whatever the latest version was), but I want to keep my root access on the other hand, so I'm also thinking about dkionline's "mOOnlight ROM v1.0 B378 Stock", but the thing is that as far as I'm concerned, on Custom ROMs, the PlayStore isn't updating and this is important for me, because I am modding my games a lot and the latest version of the PlayStore is required.
One thing in EMUI 5 that I hate is the lockscreen when using Spotify. I have no problem about the thing being small (in EMUI 4 it takes the whole screen), but atleast the controls to be working properly (people who used Spotify and B362 or whatever the first official B3XX build was will undestand).
So well, suggest me what ROM to install

New to Xiaomis... can anyone explain me different MIUI's?

I bought this Redmi 4X yesterday, it asked for update and I did it. I'd like more of a stock andro experience but I'm not yet sure if I won't lose some camera capabilities (I never had a smartphone with camera that makes people look better before). So I read that Xiaomi gives different MIUI versions to download and supports this fully. But then I learn that "older" version of MIUI that I have (MIUI 7 vs MIUI 8 I have) has newer android 7 compared to my android 6. Why is that?
Is there any consensus on least bloatware on Redmis? Also, is MIUI the same as rom, or it's just an addon installed on top of AOSP? Sorry for asking such questions, but in my case I always understand things after I already have flashed some roms, but don't have any backup phone in case I brick my phone.
Current stats:
6.0.1 MMb29M android
MIUI global 8.5 Stable
8.5.2.0 (Mammied)
Hi
Sorry but did you buy a xiaomi smartphone without take any information about it ??
1st question : will you try to root & install custom firmware ?
If answer is yes, you should first use method to unlock the bootloader.
After that, everything will be so easy !

thinking of buying p9, noob questions.

Hello I have been a lifelong xperia z compact fan, but due to the the awesome camera on the p9 and its similar screen size I am thinking of switching Have some questions that are not clear atm.
- I am used to rooting but it seems that on p9 rooting is only possible with android 6? if i buy a second hand phone with android 8 it is possible to downgrade and root? from what i have read about the p10 it is not possible.
- I noticed that the latest custom EMUI roms are android 7, Is there a big emui interface upgrade with android 8? I am primarly intersted in the camera, with the android 8 is there an improvement in camera quality/camera interface? Do people prefer older versions (6) for battery life or camera quality?
- Someone made the point that these days rooting is less usefull apart from tinkering, the only reason is a proper adblocker, do many users here decide that the latest 8.0 version is worth it over rooting?
- Do any lineage/aosp etc roms have huawei camera ported?
thank you

- Rooting by SuperSU is possible also with Nougat - but SuperSU is no more updated and bacame obsolete nowadays.
Rooting by Magisk is possible with Nougat and Oreo.
Not sure about Marshmallow but Nougat and Oreo definitely cannot be rooted by King(o)Root or so
- If not stuck with the wrong cust, your P9 should be already updated to Nougat (EMUI 5) - even if stuck with, you can rebrand and then upgrade by OTA to the latest stock Nougat.
Only for Chinese cust, P9 will be updated to Oreo (EMUI 8) - but you can also rebrand to and enjoy AL10 c00 Oreo (latest b540 OTA Patch02), with easy modifications it becomes fully 'internetional' (with all languages, Playstore, ready for Google Assistant, international 3G/4G bands, etc) and you can additionally patch Face Unlock (not supported by stock Chinese Oreo, neither by OpenKirin custom ROMs - see further below):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
- For rebranding and/or rooting you must unlock Bootloader. Code cannot be obtained (and for free) from Huawei anymore, but can be purchased for 4-5 Euros from Ministry of Solutions or DC Unlocker:
https://ministryofsolutions.com/paid-services/amp
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/DC-Phoenix-flash-repair-tutorial
- There are OpenKirin Treble ROMs based on LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix and Omni Oreo or even Pie - installation requires first to (rebrand and) update to stock Oreo:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/roms-openkirin-aosp-collection-t3828806
- Besides the AdAway root app and e.g. Magisk module YouTube Vanced, Magisk might be needed or useful if you rebrand and update to Chinese Oreo.
Namely, you must keep the Bootloader unlocked which blocks SafetyNet (and consequently e.g. GPay - not sure if GPay and NFC are supported and by which OpenKirin ROM, it also changes with their updates).
Hence, Magisk hides the unlocked Bootloader, device shows as certified and passes SafetyNet, and you can use GPay on the rebranded and patched EMUI Oreo.
- With (rebranded) stock Oreo, battery is actually better than with stock Nougat.
Cannot tell you about Marshmallow (used ir only short and long ago).
AFAIK, stock Camera with all its features is not (fully) supported by OpenKirin ROMs (used and tested only one of them for a day or two, and few months ago)
PS: If buying a new P9, you can think of dual SIM L19/L29 - but be aware, unlike single SIM L09, dual SIM lacks NFC reader.
Or even about bigger display P9 Plus - all about rebranding, patched Chinese Oreo, OpenKirin ROMs, etc, also applies to:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-plus-vie-t3843930
I recommend getting a P10 instead. But if you can get it for really cheap, the P9 is a very high value phone. Buy phone. Buy DC Unlocker credits. Unlock. Rebrand. Update. Patch. Enjoy Treble and Android O/P.
Thank you so much for the replies guys, yes after doing some more research will buy a p10 second hand, it has a headphone jack, compact screen and great camera very hard to find! unf i read that after a recent firmware update it is now impossible to unlock bootloader from unlockbootloader site .

Be careful (if you plan to do rooting/modding), for some newer Huawei phones, already coming with Android 8 or 9, it is no more possible to unlock Bootloader for free or for 4-5 Euros but only for 30 Euros
And this is not about 'missing that phone from the bootloader codes site, but due to the fact that Huawei switched for them (during the last 6-9 months) to the new and different Bootloader
It might be also questionable what kind of modding is possible at the moment on some of the newest phones with newest firmwares
Not sure does this new Bootloader apply to P10, and does that new Bootloader come by OTA to old P10 phones (better check here on XDA but on the P10 forum)
However, P9 phones do not come and do not get OTA updated with that new Bootloader (even if you rebrand to Chinese Oreo and get its OTA updates), Bootloader code can be bought for 4-5 Euros and modding (incl. rebranding, rooting, etc is possible)

Need Help for Android 11 ROMs for RedMagic 3S Global

I have Redmagic 3s (Bought 2019 - India). Phone works just fine and no issues with it. Currently on Build NX629J_V1S_ENCommon_V.217. Android 9.
Nubia has been providing Google Security Patches with latest one begin August 2021.
I used to do lots of custom roms etc many year back. Now lost the touch, but know the basics.
I am looking to refresh my RM3s to Latest Android Version (11 or 12 and even 13 will also do ).
Based on my research on this forum, It looks like that we need to first flash Chinese Stable ROM, then flash recovery and then followed by Other Custom ROMs. Is this correct?
Is there a way to directly Flash a recovery without need for flashing Chinese ROMs? Also which Custom ROM would you suggest? I am looking for completely Stock android.
I am more confused than before on flashing the ROMs. Help is much appreciated.
