Does your XZ2 heat up? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

I just noticed it but my xz2 heats up at the bottom near the "Sony" after a moderate use. Is it only mine like that?

Mine heats up quite a bit, yeah... when playing PUBG. Not so much during regular use. If it doesn't throttle, you're good.

I don't play 3D games on my XZ2.
Mine doesn't heat up.
Which "Sony" on the front do you mean?

The one at the front facing bottom of the phone.

Mine gets a little warm at the top if I'm streaming video, but other than that I've not noticed.

I have only the xperia text on the back site.
I got the Asia H8296
Maybe the missing Sony is normal.

^ yeah, there's only one logo at the back side which is the Xperia logo. But he means the heat is at the Sony logo at the bottom front of the phone.

I found out that somehow my adaptive brightness was off and the "Sony" is heating up only on full brightness but it happens during normal usage. Not good to be honest

Yup. That place. But man, try to look there under light or some angle. I'm nearly sure there should be a " Sony" there

Hmm.. strange...

Yeah, the Sony logo in this phone is invisible and only visible under torch/lamp/sunlight.
If there's no logo at all, then that this very strange.

There is

Ever since I got the P beta. I will get random times where it will run out and drop the battery life, and I cannot really see what is causing the battery drop.

There is a logo, but it's dark grey on black.
My XZ2 heats up. Badly. Taking a video for 7 minutes with 4K, HDR and steady shot on while resting on a desk (a bit air flow possible) means the camera completely overheats (it is turned off). Maybe some of you could try the same, to see if my unit is faulty or not. Environment is at around 25°C I guess.
After heating up the phone like that I get 177k in Antutu, instead of 266k when I put it in the fridge, or 250k during normal use (unless I've done a few runs of Antutu, then it goes down to 200-215k or so).

I've tried testing video recording... but after 3 Minutes Scriptmanager shutdown and stopped logging -.-

Nonetheless i've recorded a whooping 9 gb in 37 Minutes as 4k HDR h265 Video
Not a single Temperature warning, in 28°C Rommtemperature, no sunlight.

Ok, then it seems like something is faulty with my unit (revision 1). Sony is supposed to send me a replacement device, but their marketing department seems to be a bit... slow. Maybe someone else can confirm these findings? I wonder if it has to do with being from the earliest revision, and if yes what they have changed and if these devices have made it into the public. That would be rather bad.

after some browsing, or benchmark (when the phone is warming a bit)
It gets yellow tint the left side on the screen (maybe not only there, but there is the most recognisable):
I don't find this is a good product from LG.
I hope this is not usual...but personally I'm disappointed :crying:
Looks like the glue spot issues the One X had/still has...
It's to do with how the screen is glued to the LCD.
I really cba going through issues similar to the One X's launch again, that device had a horrendous hardware launch.
Are you in Europe and did you buy this from an EU carrier? If so, it would seem that LG diverted units from Google to go to other vendors. Google actually had to cancel announced plans to sell the Nexus 4 via Playstore in the Netherlands and Belgium at the very last minute because LG couldn't deliver units. I suspect LG's reputation isn't going to be helped by the disastrous launch of this phone. Google deserves to share the criticism too. (There's a rumor that LG delivered only 5,000 units to Google, but then rumors aren't substantiated and it may well be false. However, the UK Playstore sold out in under an hour and the US Playstore was sold out in under a half and hour so it sounds like there weren't a lot of phones available.)
Yeah this definitely looks like the issue that one x had with their launch. Not good!
Christ almighty, this phone is Frankenstein resurrected. How many things went wrong/are wrong again!? I can't keep track anymore. Worst f-cking phone EVER. Sucks it looks so good though.
didn't the iphone 5 have the same issue and stated for users to wait untill the glue cures completely and the yellow tint should go ?

Had that on my Nexus S i9023. It's the glue. When heated it turns yellow.
I´m curious because none of the reviewer phones had this problem and they benchmarked the phone a lot etc..

If you press down on the screen (on the yellow patch as if reviving a dead pixel), does the yellow patch disfigure? Could be some glue that hasn't set in properly yet...leave it overnight and see if it disappears
Well, if it's after the benchmarks, it means it either got so hot that physically damaged lcd, or just helped glue to evaporate faster than it should. I suggest not pushing it for the first few days cpu wise, let everything dry out as much as possible naturally.

indeed, I wonder if the networks (O2..etc got a bad batch of phones...). I bought mine from Google Play earlier today and now I'm scared for my life and hoping that LG didn't screw mass production of this amazing phone up...
On the section 3.5 of Screen section of the French review from frandroid.com here :
http://www.frandroid.com/test/116648_test-du-nexus-4/2/#3
You can see photos of the yellow tint. The text translated from French :
"After some testing, we noticed a weird behavior of the screen on a white background. A blue light escapes from the top of the screen. Moreover, a yellow spot appears. It's sometimes difficult to notice at first sight. Knowing the hardware we have is final, this is very worrisome."
I think it's the same like sony xperia-s screen.

I live in the UK and what worries my is, where do I have to post my N4 if I have issues?
This could get expensive if I have to keep posting it back to the US.

SO it s not normal ask sony for replacement.
However u must not have any effect and reflect and ... on screen with high density of pixel.
It is completely normal, it's part of the touchscreen digitizer. It's visible on almost all phones under strong light. I could see it on my S, Arc (S) and Neo too.

Dark mark beside nfc logo

Hi all,
I just noticed a dark mark behind the phone right beside the NFC logo and it's quite obvious from certain angles.
I don't use the phone extensively - messaging, twitter, instagram, non graphic intensive games.
Anyone know what caused the mark? I suspect its the processor or graphic chip.
Do you think it's a valid reason to head down to the repair centre and is it covered under warranty?
Thanks.

Looks like you have a screen protector... maybe it's that?
There's a blue z1???
It's more obvious in the 2nd and 3rd photos.
It's a dark square right beside the nfc logo and it's quite difficult to show with a camera
I'm posting to see if I am the other one or if there's others like me too.
I have a white Z1 and I can't see anything below or around the nfc icon
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have a white one also and I can see a sort of "halo" around the NFC from certain angles with certain lights, but nothing worth saying!
EDIT: Now I see, looks like it's about 1"x1" darker spot on the left? Seems rather weird indeed, do you have a protector on this side? You can look at a disassembly video to see if it's close to a processor... Surely is weird!
I can see the square from your pictures and I can say this, back cover is in glass and there is not way that any chip or whatever can do such a thing. Only 2 things can be, 1- the paint of the back cover (which I suppose is not on the glass but is under), 2-Back Plastic protector. I will suggest to take off first the plastic back protector and check if the square still there.
Hi all,
Thanks for your help.
I removed the protector but the mark is still there, so it's on the phone itself.
I'm thinking if the mark got to do with the chip heating up the paint or back panel thus causing the dark mark?

This protector behind is in case you break the glass to not hurt you...and i think it's impossible to heat sufficiently to make a dark mark like that.

The glass has a sticker protector, all Z1 have it in both side.
If you watch this YouTube clip. There is actually a square heatshield for a chip in that region behind the back cover. Maybe that would cause it. I don't know if my eyes tricked me but it looked like his back cover also had that square.

So... Bsi sensor bleeding

Reminiscent of the HTC one it seems that my unit has a blue bleed onto the sensor from the backside illumination. Look up the m7 low light issues. They get worse over time so I'm thinking what will happen is it starts out very mild as it is now and gets significantly worse as time progresses. Here is an example.
You really have to look for it to see it. Crank up brightness and such. When taking low light photos the outer parts must be dark. But really this bs from a flagship. I'll be returning this phone. LG g3 here I come no more bs knox!

I don't care for black photos. You completely missed the point. If it's anything like how the HTC one m7 sensors were it starts out so small

Then clearly progresses into a full blown bad sensor. Looks like you completely missed my point of find it now, see if it's a widespread issue like the m7, track it to see if it gets worse, and fix it under warranry or replace if it's within return period like me. Above was my wife's htc one she never sent in(otterbox) next to an htc one we sent in and got back with a good sensor.
So it only gets worse... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595534 and the main reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Again I only made this thread because this is exactly how my wife's m7 started before it turned horrid. I played xcom on my phone which made it pretty hot for extended periods and ad the first thread states apparently gets worse with heat.

I was thinking the same thing
I made a test taking a picture with the lights off and the phone agains my bed.
ISO 100 --> a very nice black photo
Auto ISO (a very high ISO, i can't remember the value, but it's extremely high) --> you can see at the center of the photo a perfect black, but in the corners you can see some purple tint. It looks like noise, but it's a strange behavior that just the corners are affected.
why is it assumed that since you have the faulty sensor thats just how the S5 was made. maybe you have a faulty device and it needs excahnged. try a second device and see how it is. if its similar thgen this maybe an issue. but one thing from one device isnt "bs from a flagship device"
It gets worse if you enable picture stabilization. Mine has quite a bit in low light, but as FarKeld noted, it all goes away at low iso settings.
with picture stabilization ISO goes up to 2000
btw: I'm getting an annoying error "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped" every time I try to see my photos

I Just realized how apparent it is in low light video. I guess it was iso noise or no picture at all.

DON'T update to CSA2 (if you love your bezel-less infinity display)

Hello everybody! Just updated my S9 to G960FXXU2CSA2 and the first thing I noticed left me speechless: this update added a thin (can't be more than some pixels) black frame around the UI. The result, as you can see, makes my S9 look like it has thicker bezels. I know it's a matter of some pixel but if you're used to Infinity Display this is the first thing you'll notice after the update. Don't know if this is intentional or not, but would be a serious issue if done on purpose…

I've been using Samsung infinity display since they introduced it on S8 so i'm quite used to the look and feel of it, and the first thing i noticed when my phone turned on after the update was this subtle change, like the bezels were thicker and the interface somehow more stretched. I'm downgrading right now to clear things up

Dude you can't even notice it from a photo, night mode on/off makes no difference at all. It's something you have to experience yourself, as the difference i'm talking about is no more than 1/2px. I'm used to this screen so I know what I perceive, and the first thing I noticed is the diminution of distortion around the edges which makes the screen look flatter and, by comparison, the bezels look thicker. It all plays around the distortion of the image given by the screen design, thus being something which can only be noticed if you see it for yourself (and not on a 2D photo) because it's too subtle.
Btw I'm just sharing my experience, I don't want to convince anyone nor I seek popularity. If you're happy with the device and don't notice anything then I'm happy for you. And just to let you know, i'm not the only one with this problem, there are other cases reported (not many to be honest, but this can be because of it being really subtle)

Can someone give me an advice (or link) how to upgrade my rooted S9+ G965FXXS2BRK2 (Android 8.0.0) to G965FXXU2CSA2 without to reinstall all my apps and loss my data/settings?
I will give it a try and see if I have the same problem of this black bezel...
I think he is seeing the edge of the gorilla glass layer. If you look on edge, you can see that the display curves around the edge to below the actual phone bezel. The actual display is UNDER the gorilla glass layer.
