Excessive battery drain - BetterBatteryStats

Usually my phone will drain around .5% an hour, but sometimes it'll drain massive amounts of battery over a short period. I have a 16hr idle log where it was awake for approx 1hr and it drained almost twice the normal at 1%

Happens. Certainly not "excessive" given your largish app portfolio and sync activity.
I have the same device also running stock. Typically idles around 0.6%/hr avg with full push mail and several other disruptive services enabled. On occasion that will dribble up towards 0.8%/hr. Meh.
Use Greenifyto selectively target Google apps that start in the background, at boot, spontaneously or on some other trigger. Maps, Photos and YouTube come to mind. Check box that says "ignore background free". Should see a modest improvement. Don't go nuts; only target apps that have no need to start/run while device is sleeping. Use aggressive doze at your peril (I don't). Stock nougat handles timers just fine if you don't go OCD over a few tenths.
Good luck.

Thanks for taking a look, this was on the milder side of the drain I've seen so I'll keep an eye out and try to get a log for the more aggressive ones. Still kinda unhappy that the e4 idle performance is worse then the g4 play which is essentially the same phone.

Also own a pair of G4 Plays. Idle performance with E4 has been similar/better than G4 with similar stock 7.1 ROMs. Be sure to keep the finger print scanner clean on the E4. No indication that was a problem but can trigger drain if dirty. Rest boils down to firmware nuances which can vary between installs on the same device type.

Absurd battery stats

I'm currently on 5.0.2 and after doing a full refresh and giving the phone a few days post-upgrade to settle down I'm getting absurd battery usage stats. Battery life itself is fine (after taming the runaway Google services), but at 50% battery the stats suggest my screen time is responsible for 3% (despite 4+ hours of SOT), Android system 30% and K9 email for almost 30% (K9 kept the phone awake for less than 2 minutes, and Android System kept it awake for about 35 minutes). Those % figures are absurd and I now use GSam to see what's really happening. Needless to say, it gives far more believable stats.
I have no rogue wake locks, I use Greenify to kill errant apps when not using them, wif-fi turns off when screen is off, and my wireless signal is green 90% of the time. Anyone experiencing the same, or know what's going on? I do have stamina mode enabled, so could that perhaps be interfering in some way?

Battery Life experiences

Just curious on people's battery life experiences so far. This seems to be the main negative I hear about this device from reviews. I am most likely going to get the device nonetheless.
I don't feel like the battery life is that bad on this device.
I can get through a hole day very easily. I play some games (but not that much), I listen to a lot of music and I use Chrome very often.
Still I have about 40% at the end of the day.
For a device with a 1440*2560 5.7 inch screen and a Snapdragon 810 I reckon that it is pretty good.
I can only tell you to get this device it is awesome
Battery life for me is pretty terrible. The battery drain is significant even when the phone is in idle. I usually have access to a charger throughout the course of a day and I feel the need to keep it connected as often as possible. I still love the phone, but the battery life is the worst I have experienced with any phone I have had in the last couple of years, and I have used many. I leave it on balanced mode for the majority of the day and only switch to performance mode when I am going to play a graphic intensive game.

Yikes. Have you tried any software like Greenify to help alleviate the problem or it still persists ?

No, I haven't tried any apps or other battery profiles. Like I said, I keep it plugged in a lot during the day, so I have never felt the need to see how far I could stretch a single charge. This is also the way I have kept all of my previous phones and the Xiaomi drains the battery the fastest in comparison.
Mine lasts me about 12hours. I listen to music most of the day and I'm a heavy user.
Got the phone 2 days ago. got around 4 hours 15 minutes SOT from 7am till 9pm on the international rom. Better than i was expecting. Hopefully I can improve it further.
I have to admit that over time the battery got worse. That would be because I have more apps etc..
What is your SOT time usually?
I noticed today my battery SOT and idle drain has been really bad. The only thing I think I did diffrently was that I logged onto my miui account last night so i could download themes. I have no use for the miui account other htan the themes so I will try logging out and seeing how things are after it....
2-9% per hour is not bad i guess...
If i use it a lot, then only it will go as far as 11% per hour and mostly because the big QHD screen,
When it sleep, it almost didnt drain...
Of course you have to kill/disable all those stupid google play services... Named it Event Log and Checkin handoff etc etc

Bad Battery Life?

Hey guys, I've seen posts about people getting amazing battery life, both on stock and on a custom rom. I can never seem to get the same results, whatever I do. Sometimes, I'll toggle a setting and I'll see improvements for a day or two, then it goes back. Even more frustrating is there have been times when I turn the setting back to what it was and see improvements. It was like this for a while, but recently I've kinda gotten stuck with ~15 hours from 100% to 10% and nothing seems to change it. I have location on device only (its for weather, battery saving seems to be worse because Google services just syncs all the time and eats battery) and mobile data on. I've disabled pretty much every Verizon app and I just use moto display and the sleep thing. What else can I do to get better battery life short of a custom rom? The only reason I won't do a custom rom is because my parents won't let me spend $25 on sunshine, whether it's their money or mine.

I exactly get the same results as you. I'm on stock and disabled all verizon apps. A help could be really nice.
Keep in mind that battery life varies GREATLY upon usage. I can kill my battery in a matter of a few hours or have it last for nearly a week. Sync frequency, sleep time, connectivity, refresh settings, screen brightness, CPU usage, vibration on/off, number of wake locks...I can go on and on.
For example, I had my S4 last 5 days before it dropped to 80%, as you can imagine I didn't use it much. However, that same phone died in probably 3-4 hours on me also.
What matters most is if you have more battery life than your previous phone. Never compare your battery life to others.

I included some usage statistics in the ingur link. A lot of battery seems to be used by Android os and android system. Is there anything I can do to lower this?

What do you have your screen brightness set to? Your phone looks completely normal in terms of battery usage (Android/Google will always use a couple percentage).
Try turning off adaptive brightness and putting your device to the lowest brightness you can stand, that should add at least another hour or two depending on your current settings. 3 hours of SoT over a days usage with what looks like moderate use (YouTube, Messaging, etc.) isn't too bad for this phone.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I was expecting too much out of this phone Oh well, i'll just wait until i can get $25 in amazon or google play gift cards to pay for sunshine so i can get computerfreak's rom.
I am on CF's latest ROM and I'll say my battery life improved compared to stock, but not by much. I may get 6 hours SoT but my battery is down below 20% by the end of the day, and that is if I avoid playing games. Playing games all bets are off, the battery runs out quick.
There are some out there saying they get 8+ hours SoT and 48+ hours between charges. I call BS on that unless you are running minimum brightness and not doing any syncing or anything location based, and possibly even turning off cell data. Showing off with pictures of their battery stats and not telling the whole story.

If you unlock with Sunshine and install RR, you can use the custom kernel to tweak the CPU and GPU frequency to save battery life.
Additionally, there are other ways to save battery, like adjusting the pixel density and colors. (At least I think so?)
Greenify also helps. I think that is available for non-root as well.
Also, check your wake time. If always awake, could be the Google services running constantly trying to update.
There is an app to fix that, but I think it requires root.

also, my phone really likes to shut off before it reaches 0% battery. Is this normal?

I doubt its normal, buy I have noticed that mine does that too. It usually shuts down around 7% without warning.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Sony Xperia Z5's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Battery drain rating on Sony's Stock ROM is only average (0.7-1% per hour in Airplane Mode), no matter if (unrooted) Stock ROM or with Custom Kernel; 0.5% at best with gauge tweaks and other modifications;
AOSP/CM ROM appears to be excellent - 1% per several hours;
doesn't come close to my Note 3 (a few per cents per day) or even my Galaxy S1 with the original battery (2-3% per day), but that's no disadvantage of the Z5 per se
battery's technology simply wasn't allowed to catch up with progress yet
Something keeps my device awaken - not sure what this could be, as the Wakelock Detector and other apps that can show culprits require root to run on Android versions from KitKat and above. This causes battery drain when the phone is not in use overnight. Does anyone else have similiar issue?

it's most likely something else
or part of the kernel or deep within the system,
because blocking wakelocks does hardly have any effect
I find my standby drain to be terrible. I can leave my phone in my pocket, with all background app closed down and it still somehow looses 30% in about an hour.
You keep breathing while sleeping
I use GSAM Battery Monitor to keep an eye on things. After a few weeks I'm happy enough with battery drain levels.
It mostly depends on phone signal; if I'm at home the signal is very weak and this can drive the standby drain up to nearly 10% an hour, and the phone can get warm. But if it has better phone signal then the drain can be as low as 2% or 3% per hour.
I have my phone set to turn off wifi when screen is off. I also use a Notification area weather app, Messenger, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc and I have a number of email accounts and calendars syncing regularly so I would say I'm not running things in a lean manner. I'm sure if I uninstalled most of these apps my standby time would be spectacular, but then I wouldn't be getting particularly good use out of my smartphone.

Have you tried with BREVENT APP together with an aggresive Doze app (Greenify, ForceDoze, NaptimeX)? I´ve now installed Brevent + Greenify and standby during night from 100% "only" takes me 0,5% per hour more or less.
Also inside Brevent you have possibility to access to AppOps (be careful with this option).
I found that Bluetooth was causing massive drain on my phone. The fix which worked for me without turning off bluetooth (I like it to auto connect when I get in the car) was Settings->Location, then click the 3 dots menu in the top right and then Scanning, turn off Bluetooth Scanning. There are a few other things you can do as well.

you have 96%, that prediction is BS, never the prediction come true.
I charge the phone 100%, tell me it going to last 12hours and go to sleep for ~7 hours and the battery is less than 30%.
the overheat over time killed the battery.

Android 10 batterylife

So did anyone else get terrible batterylife with andeoid 10?
I went from 8h SOT to about 5h.
Am thinking of downgrading cause before it was the best phone ive ever had
There isn't 10 for my csc yet
Anybody else confirming bad battery life on 10?
how where you getting 8hours sot... i was getting 6 and now 5 but i do have a lot more idle cause of the quarantine

Wish I could tell you. All I know is it was the best battery I've seen. Was using it 'normally' and throughout 24 hours I got 7-8 hours battery life always, every single day for half a year. With music streaming for 1-2h, some browsing, location on, bluetooth on, and all apps like facebook, instagram etc. disabled.
Now I get 2 hours 20 mins and its already on 48%. Android 10 was a garbage and I wish I could downgrade without much hassle. I cannot find out what is draining the battery, there is no app. If I account for the apps it has used around 1000mah or less, which is 1/3rd, wihc would put me at around 70% - that would be my old battery life. But there is something else draining 20-30% battery and it is not shown in the battery reports, I am using accubatterry.
I really hate it, now I hate this phone
Battery draining mainly depends on how device is used, means how much CPU/GPU are stressed. Has NOTHING to do with Android OS itself: an OS is a piece of software, nothing else, an OS doesn't consume electric power. It are all the running apps/services - either running in foreground or in background, for example Location Providers & Google Play Services - that drain the battery, as also the activated hardware components like the screen, WiFi, GPS, SIM-cards, BlueTooth, etc.pp. even if device is in standby mode. It are the device's power management settings what control the behavior of Android phones that could affect the system's power consumption, such as adjusting lighting, handling the phone's sleep, and the wake-up, idle, turn-off timing, back lighting or display brightness of the device. It are the device implementers who define the related constants suitable to their devces, it's NOT Google , the developers of Android. With regards to Samsung S10 devices it's worldwide known that it has a very poor power management compared to others.
BTW: Since Android 9, the platform can monitor apps for behavior that negatively affects the battery life of devices.
No matter what you do to your device, it will never stop draining the battery.

You have no idea what you are talking about and should stop wasting everyones time talking about that
So I simply reset my phone and I am back to 8h SOT and happy again.
3h42mins with 62% of the battery at like 8h usage
And after about 15h usage at 51% with 4h10mins SOT ?
I also got terrible battery life after the 10 upgrade.
What do you mean by reset? How?

A simple factory reset, type reset in your settings in the search bar and do a factory reset.
It will delete everything, so make a backup before
