[HW Fix] No SIM - Moto G XT1072 LTE (2nd Gen.), Motorola Moto G 4G (2015) - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently had to go back home to Britain, I needed a cheap phone. I purchased the cheapest unlocked Moto G that wasn't being sold for parts! This was an unlocked XT1072. I put a Giffgaff SIM in it and it gave 'No SIM'. The shop that sold me the SIM tried an O2 SIM which worked. Got back to the US put a Tracfone BYOP SIM in it, worked fine; Till two days ago, when it said 'No SIM'. I found the XT1072_THEA_RETEU_6.0_MPBS24.65-34-5 image on this forum downloaded it and re-flash my phone hoping to cure the issue. It flashed fine but when it was all done and logged into 'No SIM'.
Luckily I had a Torx driver that fit T5?
I opened it up, (wasn't the first time this phone had been opened most of the plastic tabs we broken).
What I found is the SIM and the SD Card slots sit on an L shaped board and connect to one rather shallow connector. The SIM side showed a gap between the board and the phone.
I could re-seat the connector and it will work, till the next time it doesn't! I decided to fix the board in place with light duty double sided tape. I put the tape on the back of the SIM/SD board and trimmed it with a Stanley blade. I then press home the connector and holding the connector down, pressed the board on to the back of the phone. Just to be sure I put a gob of silicon sealant to bond the top of the connector to the main board, if I ever needed to remove the board silicon sealant is easily cut! I put a couple of globs on other connectors for good measure and re-assembled... The phone worked perfectly!

Help with broken antenna

I managed to break my antenna and now I don't know if I'm missing pieces of it; There is a clear plastic body with a fixed bronze stud and a plastic cap. Is that It? I don't have the phone activated currently so I don't know if the reception will be affected. Does anybody know where to get a replacement?
I drive a Motorcycle to commute to work everyday, and I got one of those GPS holders so I drive around with my device in it to have the MP3 playing, anyway I didn't put it correctly and suddenly @ about 30 MPH I stopped hearing music; My PDA was 150 yards behind.
Anybody know how to post pic's if I don't have a server?
Pictures...
If you send me the pictures, I'll put them online and stick 'em in your message.
You were damn lucky to have only the antenna damaged...
I sent the pictures to your e-mail, Unfortunately not only the antenna got damaged, the aftermarket leather cover that I bought (Krusell) has the edges exposed so that area got scratched also, there's even a crack on top of the earbud connector, but that's minor.
So anybody know where to buy the antenna and covers replacement ?
Am I missing parts for the antenna assembly?
Thanks for your help.
Great forum.
Miguel

Yes, it looks like there's stuff missing.
Actually, I ended up breaking my antenna by pulling my XDA out of my pocket so many times by the antenna. Eventually, it just popped off.
Inside is a small spring that apparently acts as an antenna. Once that popped out and got lost, I was unable to recieve any signal from my XDA. I called T-Mobile and RMA'd the phone. My new one works just fine, and I've been careful to go easy on the antenna.
I had the same and found that a cut down spring from a pen (the one that goes arround the ink thing does a good job at replaceing the antenna coil.
Haveing said that I retuned my device as was given a replacement as well

Kaiser For Sale - Pics Added - Now Sold

This is an Orange UK Kaiser with standard rom and locked to orange all issues not really an issue to anyone here.
The phone was replaced by orange in november after a fault with it turning off all the time. the only part replaced is the main body of the phone.
It comes with a 1 gb memory card (San Disk) (If i can't find this it will come with the 4gb in the photo) and all the usual bits (Charger, Headset ETC)
The only issue is the back cover had a clip or 2 broken (See Pics) and causes it lift on one corner. The cover was broken on the old replaced phone and not on this one. there is no scratches on the main body as it only had about 3 weeks of use once replaced.

The only orange branding is on the back cover. since this needs to be replaced it would be unbranded on the casing.
Pictures will be on the top post shortly. (16:00)
The Screen as best as i can get it.
The broken Clips
The back and where its not connected and then how it sits. TBH the only issue is the stylus can not going in normally sometimes.
Ill take it for the £100 asking price!
Just to confirm, phone works 100% fine minus the broken catches on back panel? Any chance of a pic once its booted up?
thanks

Reassembled nexus one after replacing the digitizer having bad reception

I recently replaced my digitizer and the housing after letting my precious nexus one fall on some rocks. Everything went relatively smooth but since the replacement the phone has a really really bad reception. I asume i made a mistake during the reassembly but i have no idea where the antennas are. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Kind regards.
Seems like this connection is a little loose, if necessary place a small piece of tape over it if it won't click together. Did the job just fine on mine

that is the gps antenna right? That one is propperly connected in my device.
I would like to know the location of the cell antenna.
I had the same problem. After I replaced the digitizer I could barley get a wireless signal but everything else worked perfect. I ending up selling it on ebay as a parts phone. Hope you find a solution.
The cell antenna should be at the bottom of the phone because I remember people complaining about how holding the bottom of the phone decreases the signal.

Ah sorry, as the above post said it's under the bottom part of the phone. Something could have been moved in the removal/replacing of the bottom part of the phone, it is awkward to get off.
I would assume it's all the copper colored metal inside the phone that acts as the antenna. mine is similarly plagued, it seems that after taking one apart, it doesn't quite work as well.
i barely touched the copper sheet.
Does anyone knows what this is?
(type "Antenna Flex Cable Ribbon Sticker" in google, i am not allowed to post urls yet )
I didnt saw these parts in my phone

[HARDWARE FIX][C6603][replace sim reader]

hi there, last week i damaged my simcard reader.
i bought xperia z5, which uses nano sim. xperia z uses microsim so i had to push out the nano sim out of the micro sim frame.
to avoid losing the micro sim frame, i put it back into my xperia z... NEVER DO THIS!!
when i pulled it out, i damaged the reader pins inside..
so i decided to fix this, as a new mainboard costs €100+ but the reader (which is welded on the board) costs €6,95 or something..
WARNING: IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO WELD/SOLDER ON A ELECTRICAL PRINTED BOARD AND/OR HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH IT, DONT TRY THIS.
DISCLAIMER: IF YOU HAVE READ ABOVE WARNING TEXT, AND DECIDED TO FOLLOW THIS GUIDE TO APPLY THIS FIX, IT IS YOUR CHOICE AND I WILL BE HELD IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS
so, what do u need?
-heatgun/hairdryer
-very small needle pliers
-very small screwdrivers
-some picking tools for taking apart the phone
-welding/soldering station with temperature range of 50-400 Celsius
-soldering iron
-good magnifier(on a stand or a third hand lol)
-steady hands and fingers
-new simcard reader (obviously) http://www.parts4repair.com/sim-card-reader-contact-for-sony-xperia-z-l36h/

-special adhesive tape for back cover of xperia z http://www.parts4repair.com/back-cover-adhesive-for-sony-xperia-z-l36h/
the soldering station need to have a very small tip (< 1mm), like this:
first take the phone apart (i will not go in detail on this, as there are plenty teardown/take-apart guides on the internet and since you are going to weld/solder this on the mainboard you should have enough skills to take a phone apart even without teardown/take-apart guides)
take off back cover using the heatgun, your phone should look like this:
unscrew the 3 tiny screws, disconnect all connectors and take out the battery:
desolder the broken simcard reader and clean the surface:
solder in the new reader(be careful to not touch any components on the mainboard!) and it will look like this:
put the device together, make sure all connectors are firmly clicked in, clean the surfaces around the edges, on both the device frame and the back cover, apply special tape:
before you put the back cover in its place, boot into system to test the newly installed sim reader.
thats it!
ps: dont forget to clean up the mess you made or you might get trouble with your wife/GF
lol
