Buying parts fro repairing Nokia 8 Bluetooth and WiFi antennas. - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Hello ladies and gentlemen.
[Quick story]
I bought this phone from a seller on eBay (offir.123), which sold me as new. I've sent to my friend's house which is in the USA and left a positive feedback because my friend looked at it as a new phone and didn't pay any attention to the details.
He sent the phone and when I got it, I've just found the problems:
Screen problems (LCD with glue marks)
WiFi disconnecting and being rejected by any router
Poor Bluetooth connection.
Well, even though I've sent messages to the seller, he just gave me a middle finger. My mistake in this case for leaving a positive feedback before getting the phone in my hand.
Remeber this seller: offir.123. Don't buy from him ever!
[Issue]
So I had to buy another screen from China and it just arrived today.
I've just replaced my screen and noticed that the WiFi cable was damaged. I believe this was the cause regarding the issues with my WiFi connection. I've even another topic opened here regarding the WiFi disconnection problem.
Now that I've closed the phone and all, the Bluetooth is not finding any device. I believe that it might be related to a damaged antenna too.
[Question]
Can you guys point a place where I can buy these WiFi and Bluetooth antennas and send to my home here in Brazil?
I looked over eBay, but haven't found anything yet.
I've attached some screenshots from Nokia 8 Teardown video made by JerryRigEverything.

Found it
Okay, like my other posts, I'll reply to myself.
I found a seller selling parts from Germany. He sends worldwide.

I hope this helps anybody in need.

Before you tell me to send off for repair, ive already been quoted £165 to repair it and i dont think this is good for me as i only paid £99 for the xda2i new and i could get the exec new for £150. Please help if you know where i can get this part. Many thanks

Evening, on eBay you can get the screen for £77 shipped from Taiwan, not sure if its simple to replace, do not know if soldering is required. I have opened Xda 2 to replace housing before so not hard to get to
Heres is an eBay search link:

Where can you get an exec for £150 new?
Exec for 150?
From tiscali mobiles on an o2 contract, i ordered last week and im still waiting, although since i ordered the price has gone up slightly. It was cheaper for me to do this than getting my xda2i repaired. I still have six months to run on my current contract, but ive give that sim card to my misses instead of her PAYG sim. I am checking my order daily, but still no news although they say next delivery date should be 10 October. Fingers Crossed

Thanks for the link, i may just buy one.
I dismantled my xda2i last night to see if the screen from my ipaq would fit, unfortunately the ribbon connection (if thats what its called) wouldnt line up, so put the xda2i back together with the broken screen.
So i dont see a problem or any soldering required to fit the new screen if i buy one, unless anyone knows differently. If anyone has experience in this department then i would appreciate you knoledge. Thanks
very cool...ive got the same problem and if it can be fixed with approx 100 pound i wouldnt mind payin it...for now i got a 3100 to use off ebay for 20 pounds...anyways let me know if youve ordered one
I have got a spare screen for my IIi just incase and there is no soldering involved.
Daz.
Where did you get your spare screen from? How much did it cost? and am i right in believeing that it is just a case of dismanteling the unit poping in the new screen and reasembling?
As i said before i dismantled and reasembled last night and the unit fired up no probs?
Thanks
I bought the whole phone for £100 for spares.
Yes afaik you just dismantel, put the new screen into place and attach the ribbon cable(it actually snaps into place) then reassemble.
Daz.
wicked...you made me one happy man
ordered one but just as i was tryin to open it...theres these weird screws...can someone tell me what are they called and where i could buy a screwdriver for that kind of screw plz?
cheers
Hi,
They are call TORQ screws and you will need a TORQ 6 Screwdriver to undo them they are available everywhere even on ebay, do you know how to take the camera cover (black bit) off?
I downloaded the service manual for the XDA2i from a link that someone put on this forum, that will show you how to dismantel and reassemble your PDA. Im sorry i dont know where this link is but someone else might be able to add it to this thread.
Ive orderd my screen and am just waiting for delivery.

Bad connecter and repairing / O2 customer service
Hi all, how are you ?
I am fine but not my XDA IIi.
I purchased it from UK but I live in Austraia now.
I've been using the device only for 2 months, but now it has a problem, which is "can charge but cannot sync" through original cradle and charger.
And it cannot be even charged by using non-original (third party) USB charger or retractable sync cable.
I just have been using it with normal care, did not drop or broke or anything..
I found that USB connecter looks one of the weak point of the device itself and to fix it , cost almost all the amount of purchasing new device through this forum.
I really think that this problem should be covered by warranty but just because my device came from UK so that service centre here in Australia told me as long as O2 UK allow me to use warranty here, then local service agent can fix it with the warranty.
So after a long chasing , at last I contacted UK service center, repair center , and customer service. ( i called there from Australia as they don't have any email contact!)
As I expected, I could not expect much support from them.
They told me to send it to my friend in UK and ask him/her to bring it to O2 shop in UK. But still not sure to be covered with warranty......
I wish I could have good skill of soldering or fixing up electronical skills.... then I can open it up and fix it as there are some instructions to open up XDAIIi....
Anyway, has anyone have same problem and succeeded to fix up XDA IIi connecter ??? (Not XDA II as I found some quote in this whole forum... )
is anyone able to suggest the best way for me?
Thank you for reading long comment and listening my sad mumbling.
Regards
Tama

A friend of mine attempted to repair the USB/Cradle connector on his XDA IIi and completely killed it. I know this isn't what you want to hear but please be very careful if you take this job on yourself or you could render it useless.
Daz.
i think the cheapest way to get it fixed is to send it to imate repair center in dubai...O2 shop will just send it to their repair center in uk and will charge you £17 just to send it there...it be cheaper jus to contact the repair center yourself it be cheaper and faster
thanks for the comments
Dear Cadburys Man,thanks, oh sounds really Risky
and
Dear m4mad,
Dubai,,, oh ,, not familiar at all but I will try to find O2shop according to your advice,
thanks for your comments!

Nexus One swap, Will they charge me for unlocking?

Did any of you here swap your phone with HTC and your phone was unlocked?
My phone's defects are obviously hardware: Power button failing and Screen has a gap around sides, (Dust gathers around screen everyday, have to clean manually).
Can they charge me for unlocking and rooting it, even though these issues are hardware specific? Anyone has a story to share?
During the call, the HTC Rep told me that "we will charge your credit card for any non-warranty problems." Does unlocking count as one?
yes they will charge you for having your phone rooter, cause is out of the warranty that's what they told me over the phone...
I heard some Reps are unaware that HTC honors Hardware warranty. Maybe they said that to you because they are just reading a script that says "unlocking = void" I've read stories here that they still repair though. Is it true?
I just had my Nexus One (unlocked bootloader) replaced through HTC without a charge for a similar hardware defect. When I called, I didn't mention anything about it being rooted, nor did he ask. I received my replacement, HTC received my defective unit, and I was told my ticket was closed with no charge on my account.
The replacement I received has a new defect and I'm currently awaiting another replacement to swap it out as well. I don't think they care, but I wouldn't parade around talking about it. Just be courteous and flash everything back to stock as much as you can.
Ok, thanks for the info! It would be great if they didn't charge me for this.
Please keep us informed on how everything turns out. Several people have said they've had no trouble. It would be nice to get a list if reasons for RMA with success rate. I have a fairly strong feeling as long as it's hardware related and involves no root caused problem (led from n1 torch, speaker from louder music, etc.) the rate would be pretty high. HTC really, in all the times I've had any problems has been one of my favorite call centers to contact.
I have successfully swapped my phone. I had the dust under screen issue and i called them up. Not questions asked about unlocked. I got my phone and they waited a week or so and i saw my ticket was closed. Now im calling back because my replacement one now has dust under the screen also.
Did you guys get these phones new that you are able to do this?
I just bought my N1 used from someone and I'm wondering if this will apply to me if incase i get the dust issue
I have a question regarding replacement swapping as well.
My phone has the power button defect and I'd like to swap it for a new one.
However, I dropped my phone on asphalt recently and there are minor scuffs on 2 edges and a ding on the top left edge. Will this be a problem in swapping?
Will I get charged or something after they receive my phone? The defects are not related to me dropping it.

I got mine on Craigslist. I traded my Iphone 3gs for it. Wonderful trade. Android fanboy since G1, but wanted to see what all the hype was about for the iphone. I never saw it. haha.
So I called HTC. Told them the IMEI they asked if i still live blah blah address(the original owner). I told them nope. Gave them new address and name. They got my CC number and off we go. Got a replacement phone in 2 days. Sent the other one back. Case closed. All is good, until yesterday when I saw just under my replacement one also. Its been 3-4 weeks. Now i'm waiting for another replacement.
I got mine on craigslist too, not that AWESOME of a deal since i pretty much just got the phone (the charger barely charges) and the usb i got from a small cell store at a mall doesnt work...pfftt
so I need: Data cable, charger & car charger.

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My phone has a stuck pixel but I also dropped it and now there is a crack in the screen. I'm wondering if they'll charge me for the swap.
I've had my N1 replaced almost 5 times, so I have some experience with this. Everything was perfect with my first phone except for one dead pixel, which was only visible from certain angles. However, considering the price that I paid for the phone, it wasn't acceptable from my perspective.
I read a lot about people having successes with replacements so I decided to do a swap. My recommendation is to think about doing a swap very carefully. Each time a replacement was sent to me, I found new problems with the phone.
For example, one replacement had a weak vibrate while another had a camera that took oversaturated photos. One of the phones had minor scratches on the screen. Another replacement turned out to be the replacement that was sent to me which I sent back (but with a different sticker and IMEI).
So I think that if the phone is not damaged significantly, such as huge cracks, they will not charge you any fees. So minor scratches on the phone and "normal use" damage is fine.
Also, if you purchased your phone from someone else, you will still be under the warranty and do swaps. I've asked this through the phone twice and both times I was told that they decided to honor warranty transfers.
HTC gave me a new one was well with unlocked bootloader. The problem with my phone was a software issue too. No questions asked.
This is great to hear.
I traded my iPhone 3GS for a N1 on craigslist only to discover it has some sort of hardware problem - Strange rebooting - not sure if it's heat related (doesn't seem so) or bad RAM (I've seen many reports). Went the replacement route (that's another story all together - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698156) and am awaiting the new unit. Just got my return shipping label, hopefully they wont charge me either!

I had my Nexus One rooted and it was sent it to HTC for "power button failure" and they fixed it for no extra charge. Came back with a more firm-feeling power button and relocked.
They tried to charge me but after some reasoning with the right person on the phone they dropped the charge. You can also file a ticket with the Google Sales team and they will make sure you are not charged if you have a manufacturing defect unrelated to your phone being unlocked.
I bought mine from someone locally in salt lake, and after I had bought it, i noticed some dust under the screen. When I called HTC, they wouldn't replace the whole unit because there was an engraving on it. But they said they would send me a packing slip and i could send them the phone and they would take it apart and fix it. So hopefully it works.

Hey, I would try calling HTC again and talk to another representative if you want to do a swap for a replacement; sometimes the customer representatives tell you what they know and so they give different responses.
The warranty specifically says:
If you have engraved your phone with a personal message, the device that you receive will not include the engraving, and the engraving on the defective device will not be sent back to you. If you want to keep your engraving, you can opt for the express repair option.

That is, unless you want to keep the engraving.
Good luck!

Calling All Kaiser Diagnosticians

I've had my tilt for a little over two years now and it seems the hardware has finally gave in. About two weeks back, the phone repeatedly got got stuck in a white screen when returning from sleep mode (as identified here: search "white screen issue"). I chose to dismantle the phone and replace the flex cable with one I had salvaged from my friend's dead tilt. Fortunately the white screen went away. In turn, I lost the use of the memory card slot, the touchscreen functionality only worked in landscape mode, and worst of all my sim card is no longer identified. Trying to revert back to my old tilt's flex cable gave me a empty screen all together. My question is, whether I should purchase both a new flex cable and screen or whether a flex cable alone will do? Moreover should I take a chance and dismantle an old tilt sold on eBay? Or just buy a new cable shipped all the way from China as there seems to be no US sellers? Any and all advice is welcome.
Sounds like you may have a loose/bad connection plug, need to recheck assembly.
The old ribbon probably failed completely due to extra stress during dissembly.
Parts from china are mostly copy parts & the quality is normally awful, buying a salvalge phone is a good option if price is right.
For sure a few forum members will have Kaiser spares.

Thanks for the response, but I disassembled time and again to check the connectors with the utmost care mind you . After some thought, I decided the salvage phone was not a a good option as those may have severe wear on the cable as well and I'm not willing to wait around for a week for the item to arrive to find its dysfunctional (or nearing its fate). Fortunately, I found a legitimate eBay seller in NY who has the new flex cable. Hopefully if the phone recovers, I will update for those who might come upon this thread and have found themselves in a similar situation.

[Q] Which one to buy?

Hi folks, apologies if this has been asked before - I have tried to search the forums already but '3G' and 'UK' are omitted from the search query for being too short/common which makes it kind of impossible to get a result...
Anyway; I live in the UK and want an eReader. for obvious reason the Nookcolor is getting my attention but I wonder if there is any point in getting the 3G version shipped over or should I save my cash and get the Wifi only model? I don't believe the 3G is enabled in the UK due to licencing restrictions with AT&T but if I root it, can I use 3G and a UK sim card for web browsing?
Secondly, I'm seeing a number of people complain about screen issues and dodgy USB connectors - given that a friend of mine living in the US will be buying it and shipping it over to me - what tests should he perform to check it's ok before sending it?
Cheers .M.
3g nook color doesn't exist. easy decision!
Nope, no 3g. Screen issues I've heard of (but not seen) include dead pixels or dust under the front surface glass. That's easy to look for.
The dodgy USB connector isn't all that much of a problem in my view. They should have caught it, however. They also should have recessed the jack and put it somewhere other than the front middle -- it's vulnerable as it is.
I've heard that a generic mini-USB cable that fits solves the problem -- suggesting that the issue is in the cable and not the jack. I've no idea if that's true, however.
I'd have your friend charge it, start it up and and run it through it's paces. Check the screen, make sure the speaker works, etc. Then repack it and ship it off to you. And don't throw the box away -- it's designed to be a nifty stand.
thanks guys - genuinely hadn't caught the fact that there isn't a 3G version of the color.

usb-c problems?

Hi anyone else having problems with their usb -c port? It's started out as just the headphones dongle shorting out and not working but charging still worked. And now the charging port charges sometimes. I thought it or hoped it was software from updating...but knowing it wasnt, I still downgraded back to Oreo.. but same problems persist. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem or not.
I contacted RAZER for a replacement and they want me to take video evidence to show that the phone usb c port is malfunctioning. Lol.
Contact Razer for an RMA
Did you try to blow out the port Nintendo cartridge style?
Sent from my Phone 2 using Tapatalk
Looked in there and tried cleaning it out with a thin small piece of plastic but it's brand new and nothing in there. I have a crackle noise coming from the speaker at times when the speaker is t even in use. I believe some wire is lose or connection is lose down there.
Both my RP1 and RP2 did this. Im sure its actually down to the cable. One of my USB C cables is completely useless on both phones but a brand new one works perfect with no isssues. Poor cable design by razer
I'm having the same problem
I also contact razer support and they asked for evidence.. For replacement
But i live in Iraq and they can't ship Iraq
So now I'm using wireless headphones all the time
Horrible Replacement Strategy
Yes!!!!! I thought mine was just the cable as other wires I thought worked. Turns out I was wrong. They replaced the wire first, which didn't fix it. I had to pay $500 or so for an "Advanced Replacement". I told them I needed another tempered glass screen protector because I bought theirs and you really can't transfer them between phones. They agreed. I requested the replacement equipment June 3rd. It is now July 12th. I've received the new phone but not the screen protector. It has said preparing for shipment for several weeks. It takes a warranty rep 2 days to reply to my email response every single time. I finally got a manager to call me and he gave me a $100 voucher so I could buy their wireless charger since they have it located in a stupid position. He is supposedly going to look into where my screen protector is at the warehouse. It has almost been 1.5 months and I haven't gotten taken care of yet. I will never buy another Razer product.
