How many of you actually use a Desire ROM?

I have hardly seen anyone who uses Desire ROMS as their default day to day ROM. I'm debating doing this to get flash on the browser, but I'm not sure about how battery life is compared to enom.

I've been using Sense day-to-day exclusively for 2 months now.

I used it for the first month of owning the phone.

I would run it for like, 2 days at a time out of a given month and revert back to CM.
Maybe im slow, and they do in fact exist, but the Trackball wake mods are the deal breaker for me and Sense.

Untill they get the bluetooth worked out its not an option for me. Maybe add another option in the poll to something like "Im wanting to give it a spin but and will do so when its a little more ready for prime time". I suspect I am not the only one that is waiting because of the bluetooth issues.

How does everyone find the battery life, and and which desire ROM do you use?

I would love to use the Desire ROMs, but I get nothing but problems from them. They run slow, lag and **** up my text messaging. Otherwise I do like SenseUI a lot. Wish I could get it working flawlessly.

I used it for 3 hours. Don't really see how sense is better... The widgets are huge and there are far fewer mods/themes for it.
Was planning on keeping it for the exchange support, then that stopped working

Personally I find the whole 'Icons-plastered-all-over-the-place' that the iPhone and Stock Android do extremely ugly. And I find non-HTC widgets too dissimilar and all different sizes to look any good when trying to fill a lot of space.
I have 4 icons on my home screen; that's IT * (as you can see in my signature). The other 6 windows are Sense Widgets that I use on a daily basis.
If anything, I wish there were MORE good-looking full-screen (and useful) widgets!

How do you launch apps other than the 4, Paul? Just curious as I don't like having icons all over the place either; I basically alternate between Gesture Search and Quick Search

I just use the launcher (bottom left arrow on Sense UI home screen).

I have use it for about two weeks now tried cm and emon but I switch back.. I like the widgets and havent had a problem with with it the battery life is the same for me

I use the Desire rom when i am at home, but this week i have used cyan to get better battery life on vacation. i really like the email app, camera, and the widgets.
the battery life isnt where i want it, but with a charger at the desk and at home, i can pull through.

I use to use Sense, but switched back to Cyanogen because I don't enjoy the fact that Desire ROMs are not as speedy as stock, or ROMs based off of stock. I love Sense more, but speed is also not to be forgotten, I can easily feel the difference.
There are also several quirks that can occur.

I probably would use Sense if bluetooth would work reliably but I have a feeling that shipped has sailed. So until Paul gets BT working and a few other bugs worked out I'm sticking to CM Roms and Pershoot's kernels

Well we all know HTC has to release the Desire kernel source eventually, which is how Paul said Bluetooth would be supposedly be fixed.
They have merely 60 days from the official release of the Desire to release the source before it becomes illegal. I'm sure they want to uphold their moral standards..

What I don't understand is why they're taking so long to release the Desire code, when the Incredible's code was already released -- less than a week since it's release??!!
I have to wonder if HTC is looking at Paul's work and not releasing it because of that haha Maybe they're trying to figure out a way to modify the code so it's not able to be ported to the N1

Love the Send-UI.
BT works fine, once you've paired the device.

i've been using Sense UI since R8. i tried R20 and R21, but those releases weren't as stable as R19, so i've been on R19 for the last 5 weeks. what i like most about the Sense UI ROM are the native features/functionality i use everyday. by native i mean out-of-the-box apps. these include:
Exchange functionality (mail, calendar and contacts); push email has worked flawlessly for me with the Sense UI ROM
mail app features - threaded email view, ability to resize fonts, view emails from/to contacts, signature for each email account
contacts features (screen to see txts, email and calls by contacts)
agenda calendar widget (60 day view via scrolling, ability to view my gmail and Exchange calendar on the same widget)
contact favorites widgets (one group for family one for work)
email widget (scroll/view for new mail, tap email to open directly)
i also prefer the native black task bar, so no need to install a task bar theme. i prefer a conservative look with access to the things i use most. i don't like icons on every screen, so i use the app drawer (?) to access and launch programs. i haven't used CM's ROM since 5.0.3, so i can't offer an opinion on speed, etc. navigational speed on R19 is great from my perspective. fyi, i'm using intersectRavens (4.29) kernel with R19 and am seeing a notable improvement in battery life. i'm using a Jabra BT device for music and calls and it connects every time i turn on Bluetooth and the headset. i suspect this is due to me using the custom kernel.
the only 3rd party customizations i've installed are morphs for the HTCClockWidget (custom font and no background), the mail icon and the message icon. the fact that all of us have customization options is a really a great thing! options like Sense ROMs, CM ROMs, etc, allows me to "make it (my N1) mine"!

Need help finding a ROM that fits me!.

I have an AT&T HTC ONE and I constantly switch roms. It's annoying because I lose everything but I get bored easily because none of the roms are perfect.
I tried CyanogenMod and I didn't like it because I thought it was suppose to be stock android but it's not.
I tried AOKP, Paranoid Android, and PACMAN ROM all of which killed my battery and made it hot.
I even tried Stock Sense roms such as AndroidRevolution which is probably the best rom but I'm getting tired of Sense kind of. ViperOne Rom killed my battery so I didn't like that.
Then I tried MIUI because I love iPhone and hoping to go back when my contract ends because of how easy it is to use. The problem with android in my eyes is that it doesn't come with much support. On IOS you have your texts come in easily and you see them on your lockscreen, IOS has all kinds of apps like Weather, Clock which some Android Versions don't even come with. on android when I get a text all I see is a green light and it's annoying. It doesn't even light up my phone when I get a text, Android always makes like 5 different duplicates of a contact. MIUI did almost everything right. It provided you with many pre installed apps that you can use such as Weather, Calculator, Security, Calender, notes, etc. MIUI also had micloud which allowed me to text from my computer. The one problem with MIUI is that it doesn't support Group Messaging. And I know what everyone is thinking you can just download apps such as heads-up notifications and certain apps to change your lockscreen, hangouts that has support for Group Messaging. But that's the problem Id on't want to install 3rd Party apps that most of the time is laggy and doesn't work right. MIUI did lmost everthing right except minor stuff that is making me change again.
Now I know my post sort of became a rant on android and I'm sorry for that. All I want is a custom ROM that is different. If it's Stock sense that's fine. If it's like MIUI/IOS that's fine preferably no AOSP because AOSP has the least support of apps. I want a ROM that comes with many pre installed apps that the ROM creator made or that he partnered with an app on google play. So that When I get a text like the old Sense 5 where texts would appear on lockscreen(but it only worked with the provided Messaging app which was extremely laggy and disgusting) What i'm trying to say is I want a ROM that makes android SIMPLER, SO i'm not forced to close an app to read a text message or have unlck my phone just to read some notifications.
MY BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH ANDROID is that constantly everyday it lose connection to data. It ****** me of so much. I have to restart my phone just to get data again. It says I have 5 bars but it doesn't say LTE or 4g, and LTE is extremely slow on my android vs my moms iPhone 5.
Again i'm sorry that I went off-topic a alot. If no ROM has that simplicity I guess I'm forced to go to Android Revolution and download 3rd party apps. What apps do you guys recommend? I don't want it to look like IOS. I just want some of the features. What apps look the best(preferably material design) Like messaging apps or alternatives for Twitter or other apps.

"Best ROM" topics are not allowed. This is for a number of reasons, including the obvious huge variation in subjective opinions, which can quickly become out of hand.
As always, since you in the midst of a variety of choices, we suggest you try various ROMs yourself until you find one that suits you.

Droid4 ROM Reviews - crDroid

I've tried out several of the ROMs available for the Droid 4 and I was already taking notes on each of them, so thought I'd share a review on each here. I already posted my thoughts on LineageOS 14.1 in a previous thread so we'll skip straight to crDroid.
crDroid 3.8.5 is the latest addition to the D4 scene. It runs Android 7.1.2 and is based on LineageOS 14.1, apparently branched from the spyder builds. Its advantages include support for JJB's overclock kernels, in fact WiFi doesn't work without it; support for use of the altpart Safestrap to repurpose the webtop partition and give you the largest 1.3GB /system partition in your stock slot; built-in signature spoofing for MicroG/Xposed support; the most recent (Jan/2018) Android security patch level; integrated custom fonts; Ad Away browser integration; great battery life; and its own cool settings section with lots of other custom features. Like all Android V5+ versions this supports hand-wave notifications on the lock screen.
Its disadvantages are that it's fairly thick due to being on 7.1.2, and unless you're running MicroG or a very tiny Gapps package (Slim Zero or OpenG pico), it can be slow, though not nearly as bad as LineageOS 14.1 on which it's based. Videos are jerky and audio stutters. It's really intended to be used with MicroG. And despite being around only six months, it is no longer officially supported by the crDroid team, so no further updates at this time. A major factor for users of Google Voice is that it displays the routing phone number of your call rather than your actual destination phone number during the call, which can be confusing at worst and annoying at best. The call log still shows the correct destination phone number though. I'm not sure where the bug for this lives but it is specific to the ROM. Most annoyingly, the swipe-to-unlock is quirky - you have to swipe fully from bottom to top, and fairly quickly. It usually takes a couple attempts before the phone unlocks, making it difficult if not impossible to do with one hand.
Verdict: Best of the AOSP V7 ROMs for D4. But V7 isn't necessarily the best choice for D4 because of its high RAM usage. Unless there's a reason you absolutely need to run V7, i.e. for an app, you're better off with an older release that uses less RAM.

Thanks for you review. It is awesome to see that there still is active members hanging around. In my mind Lollipop was a bit laggy on Droid 4 compared to KitKat roms but Marshmallow and specially Nougat roms have improved the situation. I can consider Nougat as a daily driver for Droid 4 in 2018. I just hope that we could still see Android Oreo Go edition on our device.

How usable is Xperia SP in 2018?

So I found a brand new Xperia SP at a local retailer and I like it's unique looks and slick pocketable size,
but I don't know how usable it could be in 2018, Android never been my thing but it's running Jellybeen which has I think has aged now..
So in brief how usable will it be (with the official rom) given that my usage is fairly light and revolves around:
1. Most importantly IMAP Email (Anyone kindly confirm that the mail client still works nowadays).
2.Some light web browsing (Stack overflow, Twitter, Youtube (Rarely)), How is it's web performance overall ?
3.Some music playing and Light PDF Viewing (My Nokia E66 handles those quite easily, So I think it will have no problem).
As I said I am not good with Android so I won't be able to Flash ROMs, Root, etc...
So we are talking official ROM as is..

I used the Xperia SP as a daily driver last year for a few months, mostly because I bought some other cheap chinese phone and it had ****ty ROM - so before I found new ROM, I switched to Xperia SP for some time. Here's what I think :
1. Most importantly IMAP Email (Anyone kindly confirm that the mail client still works nowadays).
I'm pretty sure it will work without problems, in case you faced anything not working you can install some alternative e-mail client from the Play Store, like Aquamail (brilliant piece of software, and free for up to 2 e-mail accounts)
2.Some light web browsing (Stack overflow, Twitter, Youtube (Rarely)), How is it's web performance overall ?
For this it should be also OK, and actually I'd recommend using Firefox Focus (exceptionally light browser with built-in advertising filter!)
3.Some music playing and Light PDF Viewing (My Nokia E66 handles those quite easily, So I think it will have no problem).
Music sound absolutely great on this phone, as it is always for Sony devices. PDFs... no problem.
The major problem might be overweight set of Google apps. They cause weaker phones to slow down, so at the beginning it's actually good to spend some time on actual configuration of the phone (de-bloating, switching off unnecessary things etc.)
And it would be really nice to consider flashing Lineage 14.1 or 15.1 switched to Android Go. It's really not that difficult, but gives great results.
And actually it's possible to use the phone without Google Apps at all (this is what I did) - it depends on your needs. First, think about what actually would you like to use the phone for, and it might come out that you don't need Google at all (for the things you mentioned, I don't think you need it...)

Hi, I don't recommend this phone with 4.3 stock ROM, but I do recommend it with 6.0 AOSP or CyanogenMod, it just works far more better (Nougat and Oreo are worse). So, it depends if you want to try installing a custom ROM, it's not so hard, and if you want, I can try helping you with it

actually xperia sp can only run smooth without gapps, but i suffer alot because of it, if you have a better phone then you could use xperia sp for app development if u are a dev or as spare phone

You can use it without Gapps pretty smooth enough for daily basis on even Android 9.0 Pie

Then, wich is the best Rom for Xperia SP (Faster, good Batery, and daily use)

Fast, daily, battery friendly
I have used for this experience stable XenonHD 8.1. Best rom i ever had ! You dont need any tweaks, this rom is pretty fast, battery friendly and good daily experience. Plus - you can choose no navbar but gestures. Newest root solution magisk 20.1 - no issues and try with MindGapps or only Yalp Store apk.
If you turn on Ambient Display, battery drain will be knowable. I will recommend turn this function off.
My second will be LineageOS 15.1.
But lineage 15.1 have newest security updates, obviously i prefer XenonHD. Try by yourself and reply to me your exp and comparison.
Too good is AOSP-CAF 7.0, this rom have things straight from hardware compositioner (Qualcomm), so you can have fun with their options and is pretty fast.
I have tried new stable AOSP 9 and LineageOS 16.0, but i cant mark it stable, because they have still some issues, what you see after some days using, see my comment at AOSP 9, we must wait for some update.

So after seeing announcements about Project Treble and GSI floating about the internet I thought I'd look for a version to use on my Honor 9 Lite and came across this thread:

Users have had Android Pie running on a honor 7X so I thought there can't be that much difference between the 2 devices, so why not give it a try? If it goes wrong I can always use my stock backup.
So I flashed as per the instructions in that post and it works, really well. So much so that I'm gonna keep it as a daily driver.
Be careful which version of Gapps you use, the BitGapps mentioned in the post has been discontinued by the Dev, I initially tried OpenGapps but it was for 8.0 so failed to install.
If you search around you can still find the last version of BitGapps that was released, and is version 9.0 compatible.
What's Good
Installs pretty quick
Fast, much faster than EMUI - Could be a Placebo effect, but general use is very snappy and downloads/app installs seem very quick
Wi-Fi working fine
Bluetooth working fine, confirmed on Ticwatch and Car radio
Mobile data works fine
Finger print reader works fine
Sound and phone calls work fine
What's not so Good
This Rom is based off AOSP, don't expect any of the Huawei/EMUI functions or features.
On first boot the ROM is bare bones, hardly any apps installed, looks like an old version of Android rather than a shiny new one.
You have to enable guestures before the swipe navbar appears
You'll have to use a 3rd party launcher to get the full Android P look. The Quickstep launcher in this version of AOSP has sqaure icons and certain options like wallpaper/widgets etc just FC. - I chose Lawnchair for this.
Hotspot doesn't work at all, it just disables wi-fi then FC
You may have to mess around with the display settings to make things align correctly, for some reason everything seemed to be shifted to the left edge. I chose small display size with large font size to smooth it out
Camera obviously, same issues as we had on the 8.0 roms, banding/poor tracking/poor quality (Biggest downside) I've not rooted, so not tried any of the camera ports. Open Camera app has the same issues.
Sound over bluetooth was distorted (not confirmed, could be my car radio)
Some graphical glitches. Stutters & frame drops when using task switcher, switching to chrome from recents has a lag/distorted effect and menus appear out of focus and take a second or two to correct
Any Questions I'll try to answer as best as I can.

I've tried many different gsi images on my H9L. Most did make my phone 'feel' faster, I guess mainly due to the overhead EMUI takes and eliminating it does remove some burden from the phone. However, that's where the advantages stopped. Many of the issues you mention on Pie are on Oreo also. I had too many issues to overcome and make it 'daily driver' usable that it just wasn't worth it, so went back to stock and removed as much huawei/honor stuff as i could via root, then removed root. This seems to give me best of both worlds, i.e. close to vanilla android but everything, hardware wise, just works as intended. Since I have BL unlocked and TWRP working i can also keep updating, via HURupdater, with official updates for as long as huawei/honor keep posting updates; e.g. currently on B135 with Aug security patches, that is just as good as any GSI image now (Aug18).
