HELP!! Cannot access files! - Galaxy S6 Active

Hi guys I reaaly need your help!!
1. so basically what happened is my screen is dead but phone is not! i managed to connect the phone to my work pc via usb cable and copied all the data i needed.
2. then somehow the pc hard drive died and i installed a new SSD one but unfortunately i accidentaly deleted a cruical partition on the faulty hdd so all the copied S6 contecnt is now gone.
3. dont ask me how but now, on my new freshly installed OS on my new ssd, i connect the phone again and try to access its folder but nothing is there!
** could i have somehow deleted a samsung partition as well through the windows 10 installation process? (seems unlikely i think).
** could the phone be displaying a question about how i would like to use the usb cable (charging only or data transfer)? if so why would this suddenly happen?
** I tried connecting to another pc but same issuer persists. the driver installs but cannot see files.
** could it possibly work on my home pc because it was previously connected there?
** the icon on the pc is that of a media transfer like an mp3 player. when i access it there are no files but when i right click i dont have an option to add folders so i'm guessing this maybe a permissions issue?
how can I access the files on the phone?! THANKS!!!

just to update i got it all sorted out trying to press randomly on the phone apparently i managed to access the files so what i can understand is that the phone keeps a list of all the pc's its ever been connected to and a setting of which connection type to allow this pc.
As soon as i formatted the pc, the phone recognized it as new and probably asked my if i want charging or data transfer. somehow i managed to chose data transfer!
Thanks a lot anyways and have a great day

Problem trying to Hard-SPL my phone

I have been using the X1_HardSPL_Utility program. My phone has always had a good connection with Windows Mobile Device Center (ie, whenever I plug it into the USB port, it automatically syncs). I follow the steps in the program, but when it launches the bootloader program on my x1, it just stays at the "Loading..." screen. Then I get an error from the hardspl program that says something about my phone isn't connected to WMDC. After I disconnected and rebooted my phone, now my phone can no longer be detected by WMDC when I plug it into the USB port. How can I fix this problem so that I can Hard-SPL my phone? or are there alternate methods, such as through the Micro SD card?
i've made the same wrong thing like you ... 5 days to find it out.
1. dont have a rom on your storagecard (well not in the root)
2. put the hardspl.exe on the desktop of your pc (also dont have a rom on the desktop)
3. start the hardspl.exe on the desktop with the usb pluged in.
and it will work and you will feel like me "like a dump noob".
SO YES - YOU HAVE TO START THE X1_HARDSPL.EXE FROM YOUR BLOODY PC, LAPTOP, ETC AND NOT FROM YOUR X1

I had the exact same problem.
You need to:
Disable your internet connection(wifi/lan)
disable your virus detection and windows firewall (and any standalone fire wall you have)
Remove you MicroSD card
run hardspl (it should now complete the operation)
And flash to what ever rom you like (using the SD card method)
Re-enable your firewall/virus detection/internet connection (In that order)
thanks!! i got it working just fine now thanks to both of you guy's help!
ok one more problem. I am not able to get my X1 synced with WMDC anymore, just as it was doing before my failed attempts at Hard-SPLing my phone. How do I fix this?
ok do you have now the hardspl on the phone?
IF yes - it will sync.
1. dont connect the phone
2. delete the "Partnerschaft" in english perhaps the team in WMC (means delete the phone in MWC).
3. connect the phone it will say a "oh new phone" - give him the sync possibilities and it's done.
took a bit time the first time...................just checked it right.........hm got also problems.....yesterday it worked because he copied the changes ........but today!

[Q] HELP Getting Samsung Captivate to Mount...will not mount no matter what I do

Ok, I've had this phone for 2 months now. It's the 2.1 Eclair. It used to mount just fine, but now all it does is charge the phone when I attach the usb to the computer. I've eliminated the cord as the issue since my mom's captivate mounts just fine with it. I thought it was originally my computer, which is now Windows 7, but again my moms' captivate mounts just fine. It also won't mount to my other computer running XP. I've installed and uninstalled every samsung driver available but I still cant' get it mounted in either debugging mode or nondebugging mode. I also thought it might be a software issue since I had rooted the phone so I unrooted and did a hard reset. Still no mount! I want to get mounted, and not just by my wife!
At this point I would be happy to simply load apps via the sd card but I can't seem to successfully edit the settings.db file, either. Any help with mounting the phone or simply being able to load nonmarket apps via the sd card would be much appreciated.
Alternatively, here's a question to those much smarter than I. If I can't get the phone to mount via usb cable, how can you install a rom or nonmarket apps without attaching the usb cable?
Thanks!!
1. you can try to download a rom via wifi using internet browser. it will be stored in your \sdcard\download folder. also you need to download update.zip into your sdcard root folder.
2. shut down your phone and reboot into recovery, load the new recovery. (you may need to load twice)
3. flash the new rom by installing the zip file in your download folder.
sounds like it could be an driver prb i had same thing i belive went 2 samsung and got drivers reinstalled and phone mounted 2 pc with no troubles
I believe I found the issue.
Disable auto-sync.
Settings > Accounts and Sync > Deselect the auto-sync option.
My wifes phone had never been able to connect and mount via computer on the cable to the PC. Different PCs, different cables, everything. My phone always worked. First thing I ever did when reinstalling a new ROM was disable auto-sync. Soon as I disabled her auto-sync, the option to mount came right up.
Hope this helped.

*edit* I spoke too soon. Exchanging the phone tomorrow. It has other issues too...

[Q] USB Debugging/Mass Storage Mode connection to computer issue

Hello folks,
I'm facing this "please insert a disk" issue when connecting my Note to computer via USB Debugging mode / Mass Storage Mode.
I'll let screenshots in the attachment explain itself. #1 shows the screenshot of devices menu when the phone is plugged into the computer in DEBUG mode; #2 shows the screen after I've clicked "connect USB storage" from the drop-down list of the phone; #3 shows what happens when I try to open one of the two "removable disks".
MTP mode works fine, as well as Kies connection. As I finally started exploring the potential of Android platform, I realized that MTP and Kies connection are the most useless connection options for me, and I'd rather leave it in debug mode all day. So has anybody experienced this issue, or had any suggestion on the solution?
As always, many thanks in advance, and many thanks button clicks afterward!
p.s.,
Desktop OS: Win7 Pro X64 SP1
Note: 2.3.6 Stock LB1 Open Germany Firmware, CF rooted LB1 kernel.
Also, I should have all the latest official device driver from Samsung, as I have the latest version of Kies installed (and I discovered a driver folder under Kies' installed location). I'm not so sure about adb driver, but I was able to find the Note to be listed under devices by typing "adb devices". So.. I don't know where could've gone wrong.
Help anyone?
This really sounds weird... I was facing problems of the Galaxy Note not being detected on several Windows7 32/64-Bit SP1 computers as well but this was gone after I installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.
You are right - from all that i know all required drivers should be available when KIES is installed on your system. Whatis even more strange is that your device seems to be detected as two partitions are available and are displayed in Explorer...
So I would test the following:
- check if your device manager lists any unknown devices
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
- check all available USB ports and see if this solves the problem
- try another USB cable
- make sure your (external) SD card is formatted with a Windows compatible file-system e.g. FAT32
Hope this is helpful and helps solving your problem.
Thanks for your reply!
My device manager basically listed all the drivers/devices associated with the phone:
My Device manager shows devices:
Samsung Android Composite ADB interface
Android UMS Composite USB device (x2)
SAMSUNG Android USB Modem
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Mass Storage Device (Android)
I've attached the screenshot when all the drivers being installed when the phone is firstly connected to the computer. Also in the device manager, everything shows "this device is working properly"
I then decided to test with another Note of my friend's (On the same computer). Her Note has no SD card in it, and is completely stock ROM non-rooted LA4 Open Germany firmware. The same thing happened.
One thing worth mentioning: Yesterday, this worked only for once. When I initially encountered this issue, I restarted my computer, and boom, my phone was connected in Debugging mode! However, once disconnected, and I tried to connect it to the computer again, this issue came back. And afterward, no matter how I restart my computer, the phone won't get connected.
I also tried all USB port (USB 2.0 and 3.0), three different cables (2 of them are Samsung OEMs) and failed to address the issue.
I'm nearly exhausted but I will never give up, as this is my only computer and my only phone (haha), and without solving this issue, I'm never gonna be able to view the phone as a USB storage and easily transfer the file from my computer to the phone.
I'm going to try the last thing that I haven't done from the list you posted:
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
I believe that I can keep the driver folder in the Kies' folder, as I believe those are the newest Samsung driver, given that the Kies was the latest release version.
So far, I can only conclude that this issue is not related to specific phone but the Windows 7.
And thank you for your help btotaku!
If anyone has any insight into this issue, please help me. Thumbs up for you!
BTW, I was able to extract both SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe from under Kies' installation path under Program Files x86 folder, and an uncompressed folder of all kinds of drivers for Samsung device, called "USB Drivers".
And looks like I was wrong. The newest version of SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones I had was 1.4.8. While the driver that came with the newest Kies was 1.4.103
I'll post back soon
Reinstal Windows on your PC bro.

Same thing happens either with SD card in the phone or not

[Q] USB transfers

Hey guys, run into a little problem recently. I am having trouble with file transfers via USB.
I can transfer/copy files from the phone to my pc without problems, so i know storage is accessible, BUT i cant transfer files to the phone from the pc, it give an error: device disconnected or something like that... Any ideas how i can solve this or what the issue may be? I used airdroid to transfer some files and it worked without a problem. I thought it could be USB problem, but since transfer from phone is working... and storage is not broken or unaccessible cause i can copy files with airdroid and i can also see files when i connect it to pc through USB.
As an extra piece of info (if they are related), i was trying to push the files through adb and it gave me an error:closed...and trying to mount sdcard from recovery didnt work...
Any help/solutions welcome!!
Thanks!!
Coldsun15
PD: im running trickdroid (version 5 or something like that...yeah, i gotta update hehehehe)
Not S-off nor superCID
mh doesnt sound good :/ maybe reformat? Have you tried another PC?
I never had problems with Win7 64 detect and transfer to and from the mtp partition, however had some problems with adb. you can always try clean reinstalling the HTC usb drivers, that helped here. as suggested above try other pc or different os, otherwise you might try to change roms or clean reinstall same or other rom.. hth

Try doing a factory reset from within Android, I hope this helps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/64gb-stuck-23gb-t2970279
Read down a few posts. It worked for me on 5.1.1.
I also have the same problem but with the 32gb version.
I started with a locked unrooted 5.1.1 Nexus 6.
I followed the instructions from Google's file image site.
I unlocked the boot loader.
Then ran the flash all script that failed, so I manually flashed the phone.
Phone rebooted and started up fine.
I attempted to re-lock the boot loader but it failed.
When connected to a windows system the phone shows up on auto play but file explorer shows No files or folders.
Tried a factory wipe still nothing.
worked

Yes. The phone defaults to charge-only mode via USB, which prohibits file transfer; this is why the device folder was empty in Windows. Switch to MTP mode via the notification shade and it will appear as it normally does.
In addition, in Developer options, you can configure the default USB mode, so as to prevent this from happening in the future.
or, just move into the 21st century, and use a program like wifi explorer pro, and never have to connect with a usb cable to transfer anything ever again..

Agreed that apps like this are very convenient. Sometimes still prefer hardwiring for transferring 20-30 GB worth of stuff, even though MTP is a total drag.

This fixed my Issue. It was set to MTP but I switched it to Charge only then back to MTP and it works now.
Thank you.
with a fast wifi connection, its not really much slower to transfer big stuff as well; although, how often are you transferring 20-30 gigs of stuff???
I think I have used the cable to transfer maybe 3 or 4 times since I got this phone..wireless charging, no cables to transfer files, its time to embrace 2015!
TWRP Resize partition function
Addressing just the problem posed in the title of this thread, if you have TWRP installed, or if you choose to install it after you discover this problem, then you have an option that will preserve your data: use the new "resize partition" function within recovery.
Boot to TWRP (version 2.8.7.1 or higher)
Choose "Wipe" button (do not slide yet!!) then "Advanced Wipe" button.
Select the Data partition, then "Repair or Change File System" button.
Choose the Resize button.
Now you can slide to confirm, and it will expand the partition to it's full potential, without disturbing the data.

Sorry for OT:
Definitely doesn't work on a rooted Nexus 5. It always jumps back to charge only. Does this work 100% on Nexus 6 devices?
File transfer also doesn't work properly for me (and at least one other person in the NExus 5 Troubleshooting subforums), if you want to move a folder onto the SD card which has a system file and / or subfolders in it, it will most likely fail. There are also a lot of folders not showing in Windows Explorer, so if i.e. I want to move Titanium Backup files to the SD card I just can't place a folder and name it "Titanium Backup" because it won't get recognized. I have to create a dummy folder, place the backup files in there and then move them manually with ES File Explorer to the now visibile real TB folder.
That bothered me so much I did a rollback to Lollipop, hopefully those things get fixed by Google or with an Xposed module (if this is working somewhen).
