Overall love - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Real Life Review

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

So ..I guess we're waiting for the first owners to receive their phones?

****y service with ****y phones. No more Xiaomi for me. Had enough with Mi Max 1 &2.
They don't release sources on time. MIUI is a joke of an OS and they promise one thing and deliver something else.
JThis is just a hype created by Xiaomi. Not a worthy upgrade to either MM1 or 2.

I heard there are some issues unsolved. Like the phone speaker not being able to adjust the cracking sound volume on phone calls on the mi max 2.
However I was lucky with the Mido. Everything works in Lineage OS without any bugs of whatsoever.
I can just cross my fingers and hope official Lineage OS will come to this phone :fingers-crossed:
For me it took three days to get the unlock code as described that it should..even though there was some issues with the unlocking process that took some extra days. But I guess your mileage may vary.

Yes I tried in Apr for a friend's phone don't remember the model it said wait for 15 days. So please check Xiaomi forums you would know.

I too believe that xiaomi should be consistent with releasing updates on time and don't show false hopes... and shdnt be biased toward specific range or models. How much love xiaomi showed for mi max 2? its still nougat and here devs are on their own to release upgrades with help of unknown or incomplete sources...
Teasing and luring won't help sometimes... just adding screen and a bit processor upgrade don't worth it and even if they add some great hardware still its question abt how much xiaomi will support this device or is it future proof?

That's one Honest Opinion! And I'm sure of that!
Xiaomi makes great phones but:

Yes, the partially source code is one bit I'm dissatisfied with Xiaomi.
I have the router 3G and you can choose to use padavan with closed-source original drivers.
Or you can use open-source drivers with LEDE and an alternative QoS module to avoid overload issue that makes the wifi disconnect the clients after a while of up time.

Waiting for this!

In in the display or the ergonomics (feel it should be display) you should ask if the display is too narrow relative to the diagonal (not diagonal am sure there will be folks who will say it is too big etc)...but more about the aspect ratio-is it too long relative to the width as the SCREEN width is no more than an old Samsung Mega 6.3 (same in fact)

I am going to develop for this device like i did for the previous Max's

yes we need him here for sure

Edit: nevermind, it was shipped this morning.
Any idea when it will ship?

I made the mistake of buying max 2 after max 1. The sources released almost 9 months after release of the phone. No more xiaomi for me. I'll gladly pay a little extra for another phone that has the software I want without bugs.

The Mi Max 2 is my fave all time phone.. I've happily UPgraded from a Exynos Samsung Galaxy S8+, which had terrible battery life..
Mi Max 2 with the latest xtended Oreo rom is amazing, highly configurable and SOT is nuts using kernel auditor. So yes I love SD625 and this phone, which my wife is also using but with standard MIUI.
Looking forward to the Mi Max 3 in the future.

Just gotten my Mi Max 3 today shipped directly from Shenzhen, China! :silly:

ZTE Axon ELITE owners club :)

Hello, as there is not this device on XDA yet, I hope you guys dont mind if I open this thread here.
Axon Pro and Axon Elite are basically same phones, only different is QHD screen vs FHD in Elite version and maybe colour and LTE bands and maybe only 3GB of RAM for Elite (still plenty). - feel free to correct me, I did not check it anymore.
I have ordered International/UK version from the only place I could find they have them for sale which was Ebay (official way?)
If you also have this version, please reply to this thread so we can share our experiences and founds.
I like the specs. Color not my style. No support for AT&T LTE either. Good value and quality device. Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

I think Elite is basically International model, you have to get Axon Pro to works fine in US I think.

So here is unboxing only, have to go away now so more to come later I am sorry for video quality as OPPO R7+ totally sucks!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adLo1XvVbfc&feature=youtu.be
hey.... nice unboxing video,
now my first 24 hours with this phone....works perfekt for me...
will compare now with my nubia z9 max ....its very hard....
the problem is axon has the 800 lte band and the nubia has it not.
is the modem changeable?
hope to get soon more informations about this.
(sorry for my funny English)...
Greetings Andy from Germany
So, here are my thoughts after two days of use:
Pros:
Screen is brilliant, very sharp and bright, no yellow bottom as some of Axon Pro sold in US. Performance is really good, the system is very smooth no lags when operating. Antutu score around 57000. Gaming is also no problem, last Need for Speed game runs smooth. Like the design have to say and phones`s size. Easy to hold in one hand. Fingerprint sensor works great! It is very quick to unlock so I am happy to use it - with other phones before I did not use the lockscreen at all as it was too slow to unlock then . Like the stock rom as it has many features you can find in custom roms only. Not a single app crash or close down. It does not overheat.

Settings:
Negs:
- After long press on back button to see your recent apps I find it takes long time to load , maybe two seconds. (less time with less apps opened of course)
- Main speaker quality is only average - this is not music phone , call speaker quality is worse than average. The sound quality of voice call is below average have to say. The sound is "flat", you still understand what the person saying, but you think you are not talking to a person but to some machine There is lack of details like person`s accent or his mood while talking. I never had same experience like this with other phone.
Still to test: Battery, Camera, Hi-Fi music mode, ZTE customer support app
Another findings:
Charging (phone is OFF - when phone is off you can press power button and display shows the % of capacity while keeping phone in OFF state):
from 0 to 60% of capacity takes 60 minutes
from 0 to 80% of capacity takes 80 minutes
from 0 to 93% of capacity takes 100 minutes
from 0 to 100% of capacity takes 110 minutes - with Quick Charge 2.0 I was hoping it`ll be quicker (keep in mind this was first full charging, so maybe it was not as fast as it could be)
This is the screenshot of charging when phone is ON, the original charger is 1500mAh:
Phones comes with some third party apps pre-installed, but not so many and they CAN be uninstalled via App Manager. Also there is Avast Antivirus built-in to the rom, but does not update for me. Some junk cleaners and other apps similar to apps in ColorOS. Also there is ZTE app for customer support with live chat
Now, about CPU:
I will have to test this further but this should be 8-core CPU (4 slow cores and 4 fast cores) right? Snapdragon 810 has Cortex A-53 and Cortex A-57.
This screenshot says the fast cores (A57) should be clocked to 2 Ghz:
And slow cores (A53) on 1.5Ghz:
This screen is showing all 8 cores and their frequencies:
The problem is while doing Antutu benchmark I NEVER see more than 2 fast cores working. The other two are always offline:
Compare it to Snapdragon 615 in OPPO R7 Plus while running Antutu benchmark:
So as a quick resume it seems the kernel never let more than 2 cores from A57 to be working. Hopefuly I am wrong here and will get all 4 cores work somehow.
Hi...
You are right...only 6 Cores working...
i can confirm this.
i have written this to the german support team...
Not so funny...
Regards
Andy
update:
on my nubia z9 max with snapdragon 810
are allso 2 cores not working (core 7 and 8)
and on the axon it is (core 6 and 7)

Hi Andy, thank you for your info. I found it really strange and was not sure if I am doing something wrong. After testing phone for next few days I found sound quality of phone calls is really bad. The sound of people`s voice is really "flat" and it is really nothing as clear voice call. I am not native English speaker and have to say I was having trouble to understand Irish speakers. I switched back to OPPO R7 Plus where voice calls are excellent and having no issues there at all. Also found battery drain is really high for me (I think because the SD810) so I am sending Axon Elite back to seller. No longer want it to be honest. It is great phone spec/value but I`ll be happier with OPPO R7 Plus which is getting CyanogenMod very soon.
PS: tried the "equaliser" called something "Hi-Fi" and second called "Dolby Digital". It just did not work with any music app, not even default one. Only the one "Hi-fi" in the settings worked in its demo mode - it has 4 presets, but neither of these works while playing music. When testing display (with YAMTT app), the screen was able to detect no more than 2 touches (fingers), when touch more than two the fingers screen freeze

default launcher
Hello mates!
I'm just starting to get familiar with this device and in general, I'm quite satisfied about it. I't is not the best you can find in the market but it's the cheaper, considering its specifications. However, I found serious difficulties to put in alphabetical order the icons included in the default launcher. After trying it for a long time, I couldn't get it so, does anybody know how to do?
Thank you in advance!
Does anybody think it is reliable...? http://www.marshmallow-rom.xyz/rom/marshmallow/zte-axon-elite-7542.html

Xiaomi Mi Mix slower than most Snapdragon 821 phones ?

I have been working far too long on this phone to make it perform as all other Snapdragon 821 phones perform.
I have zero understanding as to why this thing is so much slower.
Check the Antutu Benchmark results to see what I mean, most Snapdragon 821 phones are in the top 10 devices yet the Xiaomi Mi Mix is below the 20 mark and even beaten by a few Snapdragon 820 phones.
I can tell the difference greatly with both the OnePlus 3T and the Xiaomi Mi Mix right beside each other playing the same game.
Is there any way we can somehow improve the performance on this device.
I have tried running the CPU and GPU in performance mode , disabling the Thermal throttling with Kernal Auditor , underclocking to match the OnePlus 3T's lower clock speed. The CPU temp never goes above 38 celcius so it can't be throttling.
Wiped reformatted , tried Lineage , Epic ROM , Stock , Resurrection ROM and they all still underperform and as far as I know these are all odexed.
Please if anyone has any ideas let me know I'll try anything.
you must be high, it is on par with my galaxy s8
try a custom rom, like resurrection, and u will have a op3t performance.
i feel it pretty weird tho, for example, i just have the Mi5 (not s) and 32GB (LPDDR3), and i score 149-150K on Antutu, meanwhile the 64GB+ (LPDDR4) users score like 160-165K
and i saw a Mi5S scoring near 170K too, using MIUI tho and not custom roms, meanwhile on the normal Mi5 i score a lot more in Custom than in MIUI
Anyways don't take much in mind Antutu, it is very variable
the weird thing here is, that is going slow compared to the 3T, when it shouldn't

The device runs just fine when doing day to day tasks but when trying to play CPU intensive emulators it is much slower than the OnePlus 3.
This should not be expected as the specs are the same.
I am using the same version of the emulator on both devices with the exact same settings and the OnePlus 3 is always 10% to 20% faster on every game.
That adds up almost exactly to the Antutu score difference.

I looked into the details of the Antutu scores and the failing scores are mainly attributed the 3D processing sections, if it's not hardware then it must be software right.
There's no reason for this.
The only thing I haven't tried is a custom CPU governor , software driver manipulation , removing Qualcomm MP decision.
If you have any ideas or have done any work on this let me know, there is basically no information on the internet on why a soc would perform so poorly unless it was due to poor drivers or thermal throttling.
It might be cause MIUI's temperature control, you can try to delete it.

I too think so. When i ran Antutu(device was cool a bit); it wasnt getting full throttle because of thermal throttling although i disable it. What do you mean by 'try to delete it' though?
There is no custom kernel support on this device, somehow, nobody(devs i mean) interested in miui-kernel. The device has really bad kernel management, especially while getting charged from low percentages; feels the death. Perhaps shut down whole the cores smh.
Mi MIX

I think people should focus less on synthetic benchmarks and more on actual user experience... Just my two cents. The phone runs perfectly well, never encountered any sort of slowness or performance issues.
I've tried different ROMs (xiaomi.eu, epic, RR official and unofficial).
With stock MIUI (Android 6.0 based) antutu score: 145000
With stock MIUI (Android 7.0 based), RR and Epic antutu score: 160000 and over
My personal advice: don't worry too much for benchmark score, it doesn't represent the real potential of the smartphone.
I can't see differences in speed with all the ROMs. The Mi Mix works great in every condition.
My point wasn't getting a bad antutu score, the point was 'thermal throttling' trouble when device getting forced to slow down easily. Even performance governor gets no fuğk. Im checking real-time cpu and battery temperatures btw, no higher temps in case. There is no big deal tho, just getting some UI glitches in some apps makes me confused.
And the other thing while charging etc, whatever. I god dam like this device and Miui.
Mi MIX

There are better benchmarks than antutu... Mi mix goes.... FAST.(with little tweak)

I was able to get this removed using ES File explorer
I simply cut it from it's current location and moved it to root, the changes have been quite noticable, runs much better without it and it never gets too hot. Low battery impact here.

Question Performance of 888

Can we actually get the full performance of Snapdragon 888 in Xiaomi 11T Pro? Many reviewers says it's underperforming. Can we enable it's performance?
I have another question, people says it has throttling issues. Can i use it for heavy gaming? If i use a cooler fan? Does it will give a stable performance?
How is the phone in day to day use? Does it over heat?
on stock miui i dont think so, plus 888 and Gen 1 has heating issues so i dont think its a good idea also

Any Performance Drop? Many Youtubers says it's 888 Performance is Underperforming. Performance Drop A lot. Is it True?
No. You must try it. This CPU eats MIUI

MIUI is likely the cause of the problem here, I tried with a custom unofficial google experience rom the results were surprising as it surpassed the MIUI usage ones. Yes, even with a good custom rom that is lite will make the processor show its true self. I am using the White model with 8gb of ram and 256gb of storage to note. (Brought it in early 2022). I suggest you install a custom rom or anything to make MIUI lightweight. Custom rom is google experience unofficial version 12.1 .Snapdragon itself is already a beast when it come to performance. If want google experience unofficial rom for this phone click on this tutorial. >> https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-install-custom-roms-gsi-11t-pro.4396021/

The 11T Pro is a nice phone with enough power. Can it gain more performance? Yes maybe, but why should it? It's fast enough right now.

Using a GSI Rom gives you tons of performance. The miui is the one slowing it down. Miui score for multi core is 2800 ish. Meanwhile I got 3203 on Geekbench. The phone does have a little bit of overheating. Other than that it performed well in normal indoor conditions and some outdoor. Honestly don't even dare to use MIUI.
I uses on previous phones, redmi note 7,8 pro , Poco f2 pro, Redmi note 9 pro 5g , so manu custom ROMs, Boootlegers, Pixel expirence, Project Elixir, CorvusOS , Radiant Project... Every single one is a good AOSP ROM, especially because of battery. but I can not and never will used to use Gcam, MIUI Camera is such improved, have so manu options, that is amazing. yes , Gcam do all automaticlly but MIUI camera have all that setttings and for those who love photography isnt hard to set up settings manually...
I already unlock boootoader , flashed Xiaomi EU but , with thus cpu no need to use AOSP

I myself personally have a dedicated mirrorless camera. For me performance matters. (Small political opinion) I am using no MIUI for many reasons. First thing USB debugging security. Yes, I have to enter my MI account. Calculator app sends to Xiaomi servers. THIS is not a cool OS. AOSP based rom suited me fully with all hands. MIUI also is laggy and eats resources. Xiaomi also made a timer when a critical setting is changed. I have had enough, and go for other roms instead. Say no to MIUI and say hello to other roms, they are here to stay.

I have already planned to install a custom ROM on it knowingly. Right now due to external crisis I need a bang for the bucks. You know that the economy all ran down. Yeah and smartphones got expensive. Plus I at least get speed. My Xiaomi account that I created is an alt as I used a alternative email to do that. I might sound weird, but hear me out. Earlier on I tried google normal GSI Rom and then pixel experience unofficial GSI Rom. The phone in the website also said android enterprise recommended... On the English version of the website this also lead me to think that even I know MIUI sucks I at least might be able to change the Rom to get price down.

ok,i see
If it is underperforming, I'd say it is still leaving a good impression on me. Bought one a couple of weeks ago (My S21u was stolen) and performs very well.
I change mine RN9ro 5G sd 750g with aslo 108mp camera ,with flash AOSP roms I got easly 2 days of battery , now I chane it to 11T pro and cant get used to that battery is almost empty in the evning.. but peformance of 888 is awesome... its twice faster opens apps then on RN9pro 5g

Question Should i upgrade to P7

Hi
Thinking about getting P7.
Some unclear topics:
1. Is it runing warm in simple use(yt.fb,browser)?
2. Does it support tap to wake and widget to lock screen?
3.Does it have widgets on screen available for mobile data, hotspot, wifi?
4. Is its camera step up compared to others flagships?
5. Does it have adds like xiaomi has in prei stalled apps. Is there bloatware? How many gb free when just opened& booted up?
6. Any bugs?
No don't, my p6p runs so much smoother and has double the performance due to the GPU, the Mali G710 on the p7 is more towards battery saving, but I don't see a difference in battery, 100% stay with p6 or p6p, the only upgrade you get really is software related

The GPU is only a slight downgrade in the P7, stop being so overdramatic. There's obviously something not okay with your 7.

I upgraded from a Pix3 so it's a lot faster with a lot better battery life for me. I use mine more like a phone, texter and email checker than a gamer or social media user and I use about 40%/24hr day.
1. Not running warm
2. Yes. No.
3. Kinda. It has widgets for settings shortcuts to these areas but not actual toggles/indicators.
4. I think the Google camera on this platform is excellent
5. No ads in preinstalled apps that I've seen but some would consider the Gapps as bloatware compared to AOSP
6. The fingerprint sensor/experience stinks! You should definitely google that before you buy if you're a big finterprint user.

I'm not good with the CCP but both Pixel, Samsung and Gookill Android have been degrading these phones for the last 3 years.
No expandable storage, many only have 128gb internal storage and 6-8gb of ram. One member has a thread up complaining of only 4hrs SOT with their P7.
Between scoped storage, 5G and the variable refresh rate display they tanked the SOT. For what? This Note 10+ with a degraded (and smaller) battery that's do to be replaced gets more than twice that. Dual drive 500/1000gb with better color accuracy.

It's not just Pixels that suck; Samsung's overpriced new flagships are expensive hand warmers too. If you don't care about having a variable refresh rate display and 5G, get a new or used N10+. New ones are loaded with Android 10... don't upgrade it. Security simply isn't an issue in this case. A better balanced phone with excellent build Q and a solid workhorse.
Both Google and Samsung now are more marketing hype talk than action. That's my opinion. No trophy unless you earned it.
If your phone hw is powerfull, then it will be hand warmer in winter.
Other issue is PWM, some flagships(Mi 12t as example) declare 1920 pwm, but in lab tests it is only 120hz(info from notebookcheck review).
My another option is Xiaomi 12x( good hw, not heating, pwm high, good battery stats), but not available via carrier e-shop. Xiaomi 12 powerfull hw, heating issues and also lower battery stats). Lets see how Xiaomi 13 deals with heat, pwm, etc.
F###k no more security patches for Mi note 10 pro and also no miui 14:

Strange move from Xiaomi.
I upgraded from the P6 to the P7. (I wasn't looking to upgrade, but when Google offered $479 for my P6 and the P7 was on sale for $499, it was a no brainer).
The P7 is hand down more fluid than the P6. It "feels" faster than the P6. I was actually surprised at the difference because I wasn't expecting much difference between the two.

same feeling and the fact that its getting smaller was a no brainer for me...I upgraded from 128gb p6 to 256gb p7 for 100 bucks....It'll be crazy not to take...
I honestly thought somebody at google did some wrong math and giving peopel this crazy deal...but then again its google...they are rich enough for me not to feel bad.
In what country Google offers such deals to exhange p6-p7?
It was in the US at least. However the trade-in values have already dropped and the sale prices end 12-24-22. So while you can still get the phone on sale, you can't trade in your P6 for $479 anymore. (I just checked and Google is only offering $150 for the P6).

Question Mi 9T PRO to MI 11 ULTRA Big difference ?

Hey guys ,
I'm using my mi 9t pro since 3 years now , currently on evolution X ( amazing rom by the way thanks to the dev . ) and I'm very interested about buying a mi 11 ultra but still have few questions .
Does someone did the changing as me ?
I'm currently struggling on battery since I used my smartwatch connected and I'm out of battery around 22:00 every day with just 5h screen maximum , will the mi 11 ultra the same ?
Thank you for your advises

I had Mi 9, Mi 10 and now Mi 11 Pro(which is pretty the same as Ultra expect tele camera an rear display which nobody uses). Also, month ago I bought Mi 9T Pro for my friend.
I still have Mi 9 and Mi 10 and Mi 11 Pro/Ultra is going to be your miracle in life. In combine with MIUI14(the fastest OS in 2023 I can say), you won't come back to any other phone.
If you decide to buy Ultra, prepare yourself for making CPU cooler with one magisk module.
Thank you for your answer

Thank you for your answers ,
Can you be more specific on what will be the life changing please ?
Also what about the battery life of your Mi 11 pro please ?
I eared the soc 888 is very bad for battery optimization and some people have only 3-4h of used before running out of battery ?

Well, camera - Leica mod and GCam made this phone one of the best on the market if we are talking about camera.
MIUI 14+ A13, big battery. I'm charging it once a day(I'm heavy user, as I'm listening to YT while working 8h + message apps).
Battery is great with Efficient Tuner(check on XDA).
With it performance is the best.
I can't check sot because I'm heavy user but it's more than 4 hours - at least it feels like that

I'm also using Mi 11 pro . Not many people using probably because they're scared since it's a CN model. But they don't know that CN rom actually has basic google services, just need to be enabled in the settings. Or you can just flash global or xiaomi.eu rom or AOSP.
So far I've flashed the global/eea rom , then the xiaomi.eu rom.
Now it's running Evolution X , and getting better battery runtime.
The phone has been really good , no problems encountered so far.
Ok, I'm probably well equipped to answer your question OP. I moved from the K20Pro (Aka 9tpro) to the 11 Ultra.
Things to note. Overheating can be a pain, seems to be better on miui13 and later firmware though. Camera is much better, battery life not so much. Imo, its about the same as when I was using the 9tpro. Faster charging speeds are good too, high refresh rate is good too.
I was an early adopter of the 11ultra and my first unit got fried about 11 months into its life but afterwards I've got it replaced and seems to be good for now.

My replacement is also a late 2022 production. June or July iirc. So far, the WiFi hasn't crapped out on me yet. Heating issues still remains because it's not a Xiaomi manufacturing issue but a sd888 issue.

Good afternoon. I come from 1 year with Motorola and OnePlus. Where can I check the motherboard, to know if I will have problems in the future with this equipment?
I was also a user of the Mi 9T pro, more than 1 year ago. Then jump to 1+ 7Pro and then motorola

Hey there ,
When you received your phone on the back you will have the IMEI code .
You just go on https://xiaomicheck.com/
And put your IMEI code on it and it will show you if the phone is new , warranty date AND the production date .
But yet we are not sure since when they change the motherboard on the production..

Thanks for your answer. My only doubt is regarding the way they mention the date. Here in Mexico we always put: day/month/year. And some countries, I think they change, the month and day or day and month
Hey guys , little update from my new phone
Currently running on MIUI 14.0.6.0 Chinese version .
So far Soo good , like everyone said I can also probably use it to cook my eggs for breakfast
Everything is smooth and beautiful after removed all the anoying Chinese app , I even not considering to go for the global MIUI 14 since I don't see or know the positif point to go on global .
