How to remove branded boot logo from firmware? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Hi
I am trying to remove t-mobile boot logo from firmware, and i want to make the firmware generic as possible.
Using flashtool and G8441_T-Mobile HR_1311-0658_47.1.A.12.235_R7B firmware to create new bundle.
Now few questions:
1. Do i need to delete fwinfo.xml and update.xml from firmware folder?
2. Can i remove boot logo by deleting some .sin file or .sin file needs to be edited?
Any tips appreciated.

I think that branding depends on your branded firmware. There is no problem to just flash an unbranded version. This is quite easy with Flashtool. Just download the proper version for your smartphone. You can select every version from Sony. The language files are included in every firmware.

To get a generic unbranded firmware.... you flash a generic firmware... like i am using G8441_Customized MY_1311-1764_47.1.A.12.235_R6B. There is cusomtized version for germany too.

Thanks for tips but i knew that, i was asking how to do it manually on branded firmware, and by the way how to know which firmware is without branding in xperifirm?

I've never used a branded fw before, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in /oem/media/bootanimation.zip. so you would have to edit the oem.sin (or remount /oem as writable if you got root).

[Q] I just want to debrand my O2UK Z3C

Hi,
Really couple of quick questions... I have read the tutorials on flashing stock firmwares, I have got all the software downloaded (Xperifirm and Flashtool). I just want to debrand my phone (i.e. no O2 apps and no O2 boot screen).
I have picked out the Customized UK Unbranded firmware 23.0..1.A.5.77.
My current firmware is O2 Pay monthly UK 23.0.1.A.5.77
Does anyone see any forseeable issues with what I am about to do? First time flasher of Xperia phones - I have been a Samsung shill for far too long!
Kind Regards,
Neil

Hi,
I've also got the phone on O2 pay monthly and considering flashing the generic UK firmware. Did you use the links on the firmware thread to obtain the UK one? The links seemed to not work when I tried to download.
Have you read about creating your own flashtool file (ftf) for the current firmware? I would advise you to do so before getting rid of the O2 firmware as a backup ftf. You can repair the phone using the Sony PC companion and that would download the necessary files to create the ftf.
I have used couple of Xperias before and have always used flashtool to flash different firmware many times. The consensus regarding warranty and flashing seems that you do not loose the warranty in doing so and I have hoped it is so in flashing the other Xperias.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this was not a successful attempt. I got the firmware using the app Xperifirm and decrypted it and created the flashing files in Flashtool as per instructions in another thread. I could not get the drivers to work correctly for Flashtool to function correctly however. Once I got to the flashing stage and Flashtool asked me to power down the device, I would then hold down the Vol - button whilst putting in the micro USB cable and it would fail instantly, first saying the driver was not installed and then after a lot of fiddling that the loader.sin would not install and again fail straight away. After a couple of hours of messing around I gave up.

Am I right in thinking that you downloaded this firmware when you posted about it back in 2015? If you did and you still have it would you be able to send me a copy? It seems to be unobtainable now from the internet.
Kind regards
Simon

Firmware updates

Hi guys, i was wondering if Sony releases updates in different regions at different times ?
I read in another thread that the Oktober release was already available ?
If so can i use a VPN client to get my update quicker ?
Still on the august update here.
Yes, depending on your region (and if dual sim or single sim), updates are released at different times.
You can, however manually update by downloading the firmware using Xperifirm, and manually update using newflasher. The flashtool software hasn't been updated yet for the XZ3.

I have downloaded the correct firmware (unbranded UK) for my phone model.
Does newflasher work with the XZ3 ? I also tried Flashtool64 but this software is not updated for the XZ3 yet, it does download the firmware but when selecting flash no packages are shown.
So i am a bit stuck.

You can download another firmware for your device model using Xperifirm and flash it using NewFlasher. While flashing you need to exclude the files ending with .ta extension.
There is a tutorial available for Newflasher.

DO NOT exclude ta files. This is bad advice for newer Sony devices.
Only exclude userdata sin file if want to keep own files

Firmware Flash Compatibility Question

I have an AT&T variant of the S10 (SM-G973) and I wanted to flash the stock One UI ROM that is found on the unlocked S10 (SM-G970). Does anyone know if the firmware for the 970 can be flashed successfully on a 973 phone?

Why would you want to flash G970 firmware onto G973 phone? Can't you just flash G973 firmware onto your G973 phone?
My understanding is that the G973 firmware has the AT&T Bloatware and some functions/tiles hidden (like the mobile data tile for quick settings). I'm hoping I can do the stock firmware from G970 to not deal with the bloatware and have more access.

Have you thought about using unlocked G973 firmware? G970 is S10e model
Thank you, Charkatar. I bet if I paid more attention in my search I would have noticed the difference. Next step, find and flash the unlocked firmware!

Use SamFirm tool to download firmware you need ( I have attached zip file) and check out example image on how to search and download firmware your phone needs.
So under model, you would put SM-G973U1 (which should be unlocked model) and region you would put XAA (unlocked model) and click "check update" IF YOUR MODEL IS DIFFERENT FROM MY EXAMPLE, THEN ENTER THE CORRECT MODEL AND REGION YOU NEED

I'm on a Mac and can't open the windows .exe files. I did find a slight work around with Samsung SmartSwitch. Work has been so busy I haven't had time to find and download the U1 firmware for the S10. I"ll let you know how it goes!

Unlocked ROM

Hi
When I downloaded the U1 unlocked firmware, I couldn't extract it. It said the .zip was damaged. Can anyone help or point me in the right place to download the firmware? I tried googling, but it doesn't lead anywhere! Thanks!

Use this SamFirm tool to download firmware for your phone.
Fill out Model and Region sections and you can tick Auto(if not selected)
Example: In the model you would put something like: SM-G970U(S10e phone) and Region: TMB(T-Mobile) - your model and region is probably different. If you need an unlocked US region, use XAA

SM-G977B - Flash to BTU not working but ODIN Passes

Hey all
Strange one here, i have a SM-G977B (S10 5G on EE UK), i have unlocked it and trying to flash BTU firmware on it via ODIN (download fw from sammobile)
It flashes ok and passes but when phone starts up its CSC is TEL! (Australia!!)
I have re done the flash with XEU and still the same. firmware version says TEL/TEL/EVR in settings
any ideas on this? can this model be flashed to a different region? i want it on BTU not EVR (EE UK)
tried few versions of ODIn too, and left all check boxes default
Thanks
ok, i have reflashed the latest EVR firmware back to the phone and it has taken this fine
Wonder why it doesnt like BTU or XEU?
What firmware files were you trying to flash specifically?
Sounds like you downloaded the wrong one. What are the names of the firmware files you flashed?

Hi
Tried these
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/firmware/SM-G977B/BTU/download/G977BXXS2ASJ7/299842/
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/firmware/SM-G977B/XEU/download/G977BXXS2ASJ7/299840/
The above all flash on in Odin, but when the phone starts (even with uk sim in the phone) it defaults to Australia language and 2x Telstra apps install automatically, software info says tel/tel/evr
I then tried this one:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/firmware/SM-G977B/VOD/download/G977BXXU2ASJ5/299590/
And the above install the 2x Vodafone uk apps automatically which is fine as I am on Vodafone uk but in software Info is still says vod/vod/evr
What my issue is now is I don’t seem to get 5g on this phone even though I’m on a a 5g contract and has worked previously on a note10+ 5g handset.
Is this handset 5g modem locked to ee?

Did you enable OEM unlock in developer options before flashing?
I am waiting for delivery of an EE branded S10 5G tomorrow and planned to flash BTU firmware

OK, well I have always had to do that to change CSC via FW flash since the S9 range was released in 2018.
I am waiting for postman to deliver my S10 5G today so will try to flash BTU with OEM Unlock enabled, and let you know the outcome.
(If it doesn't work for me, i will do same as you and flash a network specific FW via Odin - H3G is my network provider).

If you go to software information in settings, does it say h3g/h3g/evr?

Yes exactly. My product code is also SM-G977BZAAEVR, so its always going to be an EE UK handset
Hello,
I have the same phone (SM-G977B), I exchanged it with someone in Shanghai (without a box, stupid me)
It was rooted with some CHC firmware (which did not let me download any Google play services), I tried to root the phone (my first time) and ended up re-locking the bootloader.
Later on, while trying different things, I ended up deleting the firmware from TWRP (as I formatted the data, cache folders/directories) as it was not booting up (bootloop on Samsung logo).
Long story short (and rather sad and stupid):
I have a brick phone which has no SD card slot, No OS installed, I do not know the original CSC (except that it was bought in some country in Europe), other firmwares does not flash with Odin (gives me Repartition error failed error), I am unable to mount the device (thought I could transfer the firmware using MTP), I can not change TWRP (downgrade or upgrade) as disk won't mount (for some reasons). I have formatted the disk, changes its format to ext4, ext2 etc.
Any ideas?
