[DEPRECATED] Migrator - Android Backup Solution and Data Migration Utility - Magisk

THIS PROJECT IS DEPRECATED. I HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE HERE.

Reserved for jokes.

It seems really interesting, thumbs up man :good::good::good:

Okay I still don't quite understand the method technically even after reading the description.
The thing is if dev say clean flash(wipe data, system, cache, dalvik) is a must before installing a rom, etc. Then will this adk solution can be used instead of titanium backup?Because you wrote that adk more efficient than tb maybe I'll use this instead of tb

All you really need to understand are the setup steps. This module prevents app data from being deleted when you use TWRP's "wipe data/factory reset feature".

This sounds too good to be true, lol almost like a proof of concept. Can just binding the new dir with the old make it so there are no issues whatsoever? Will test later this week cause I romhop a lot.

My phone's storage is almost full. The thing i want to ask is if this procedure will need more data space inside /data/media.

No extra space is taken, as data is moved, not copied.

I installed this and it erased all my app data, ironically enough. Make sure you have a backup before installing.

After typing "adk" it finds all the apps, but after typing "." it lists every app with "pm: not found". After a reboot, the apps are not installed. Am I doing something wrong?

Lmao same thing happened to me. Figured the module was buggy and uninstalled it. Maybe i did something wrong too, which im not sure how considering how easy the install instructions are

That's really f**ked up... same to me. I think there was no error on my side while following the "install-reboot-forget" process. Only the lib folders had been moved/binded somehow to the SD folder, no base.apks and no odex-blobs(?).
The result was a totally broken system. Sorry, but IMHO the Dev should not proclaim it that way as long as the script seems to be in pre-alpha ... All log files in /data/media/adk/logs/ are empty, too!
Really don't know whether LMAO or :crying:
Sent from my OnePlus3T using XDA Labs

Please add an alpha into the title. Same happens to me.... and titanium can't restore accounts anymore...

The XDA link in the module description takes you to the forum section rather than this thread.

Seemed interesting and installed
But I lose all app data ,
found no logs and nothing just like fresh install of everything
Keep a backup before trying this
I was on magisk 16.7 ,
Redmi note 3 AEX N

Do not install! I lost everything like everyone else. Pictures I just took on vacation of my kids gone. All texts gone. All app data gone. Wtf man. This needs to be pulled. I lost 3gig of data

Never ever try magisk stuff without nandroid or other backup in backhand.

I, like everyone else posting here, fell for this extension and lost all my app data.
I'm not sure if this extension is buggy or if we are simply too stupid to get it running but here is what I did:
install
reboot
forget (about all my app data as all apps seem to have lost their data)
I then opened a terminal, typed adk as instructed and am getting:
permission denied. Can't create /data/media/adk/logs/res_apks_verbose_log.txt: permission denied
typing su before adk does indeed give me a list of apps which seems to get longer every few minutes.
Maybe its still busy copying? I'll give it some more time. Not sure what's up though, are we supposed to wait for the ap to copy all app data over then do an initial restore? Or is it not correctly "linking" the apps to the new app data storage?
###edit###
I did not immediately remove this extension as I thought to give it some time. I then rebooted and its now hanging at the boot screen saying: "Starting up ... please wait" - this section usually only takes a few seconds but I've been staring at this screen for minutes now. I'll give it 30 minutes, maybe it is still busy copying all my APKs and app data to the SD card? I mean I was already wondering how this can only need one simple reboot to be ready...
I'll update this thread if I have any new findings as the extension description sounds quite logical so maybe we're all doing something wrong

Dev RECOMMENDED app data backup in first step even BEFORE INSTALLING it through magisk or twrp.

you're right he did. I didn't say I don't have a backup I only said the extension isn't behaving as advertised OR I don't get how to use it.
Also, he should change that sentence from "recommended" to mandatory if his app wipes app data
---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 PM ----------
I have disabled the extension and rolled back my backup. I'm still wondering what went wrong here as the extension actually created the right folders on my SD card. Somehow the links seem to have been missing. I didn't dare try a restore via "adk ." as it was unclear what else could have gone wrong.
I would however appreciate some feedback and clarification from the author.

All browsers crash without a "force close"

Hey all,
I've been an xda stalker for a while and have been using all sorts of roms for a while now, but now I am in need of my own question.
For a while now, my mother's G1 has been acting up, whether it be her own fault or a bug. But this one has me confused. Over the past three roms i flashed (dwang, cm, superd) this same problem is always around. Everytime I touch browser, dolphin, etc the page begins loading and then i see the home screen.
Everything else works as it should, which confuses me. Everytime I flash a rom, i wipe, wipe ext, repair ext, wipe, flash.
I'd be happy to post a logcat if someone would be so kind as to inform me how to dump to a txt file.
Hopefully this is something extremely easy so I can get her off my back hah

sure its easy, if its your mom's phone, dont have a unsupported non-factory rom on it... the REAL awnser is: wipe EVERYTHING, even your ext partition, and reinstall base, then CM... I'm guessing its something you mucked up by going between builds without wiping, or not fixing permissions between builds, or some app on your ext didnt play nicely.
*oh yeah, wrong section, read stickys, or DIAF, your choice*

Nah I think he should install the RC29...just kiddin you should use Super-D or Enom's official. I kinda assumed this thread was about some kind of fix for browser problems.

well, the RC29 might actually force a wipe... and would update itself and have OTA keys... honestly probably not a bad way to go... Super-D is good, but honestly dont notice a huge difference between that and CM.
it was even not working when i reverted to complete stock. could this be a problem with the phone itself? Maybe revert to stock again and take it in to t-mo?
There should not be any problem with leftovers from previous roms, since i completely wipe data and ext as i mentioned in my first post.
Moderators, please move this to correct section. this seemed like the correct section since this seems to be more involved in the development side of things. Definately not Accessories but more involved than Q&A. Thank you
Phone ><---USB--->< PC/Laptop/Mac
adb logcat
watch text fly up screen ... make browser crash
quick !!!!! take a picture of that text.............
if you don't have a usb cable handy, a PC or the time to figure out how to get adb installed
go to terminal emulator on phone, and type
logcat|tee /sdcard/logcat.txt
( get the pipe "|" with alt then s )
make browser crash
go back to terminal press ball then C
Edit : the ball can be a bit of a pain, when in term do menu --> preferences --> control key , and set to which key you prefer, I like left alt as ctrl[\i]
now have a look at the logcat.txt file, it
less /sdcard/logcat.txt
you could just do logcat > /sdcard/logcat.txt
but it doesn't look as geeky
NB use >> instead of > to append > will make new file >> will add to file
to append to file with tee use tee -a file.txt[\i]
and yeah, wrong section
thank you very much for your assistance and the little linux command briefing ha
i decided to try every sort of wipe, repair, etc and do it multiple times. probably didn't do anythin, but worth a shot ha.
Ended up working! I removed the ext and swap partitions, wiped anything i could multiple times, flashed super d, didn't work, wiped a bunch, flashed htc recovery image, then cyan, and presto. For whatever reason it finally worked.
Shoulda done the logcat and posted it so y'all could see whatever was going on and hopefully help someone out later. but all is resolved for now.
If there is a next time, I will post in Q&A. I want to thank everyone for their input and wish all a good night.

Speeding "boot up"

My boot up and shut down are extremal slow. I know this handles like a computer and these things can effect its performance. I would like to know what can be done to speed up these boots. I am also not to aware of what should and should not be removed from the sdcard. I've attached a snip of my sdcard, how do I know what is junk and what is not?
Thanks, Tomween1

First, as you probably already know, every phone is built differently and so things like that can vary.
My guess is that there's probably too much unwanted file on your phone, which have probably just been stacking from flash to flash. There's a app for that but I can't remember the name (sorry ) - perhaps you can look it up.
Other thing, if you have been flashing over and over:
1. Attend some flashocolic meeting
2. a full clear would probably clear up alot of stuff.
If you go for a masterclear (Odin) and re-install your ROM, don't forget to backup your file with Titanium Backup + pictures and put your contacts on your sim card (copy the file from your phone to your comp). -Just a little reminder.

Try deleting any apps that you don't use, and also try an app called "SD Maid". I got it from the apps section, but it may be in the market now. It searches for leftovers of stuff you've deleted. Cause sometimes things leave traces of themselves behind after a delete. Should free up some room.
Also, theres an app called "Autostarts" which lets you select what apps actually start on the boot up, which should also speed it up if you disable some.

If you're really wanting to make sure you've cleaned it out, you could always to a Titanium backup of all the apps/data that is/are good (or that you want to save), and do a factory reset from Clockworkmod Recovery. That would clean out anything that's left.
Just make sure you don't do anything that will format your internal sd card (unless you've moved all the things you want to keep to a safe place).
Granted, you'd have to take some time to reinstall your other apps, but it might solve your problem.
Just my opinion, though.

[Q] Stock ROM (SBF) Available for Droid 4?

I ... may have bricked my Droid 4. I won't go into details unless somebody asks, but I don't think it's necessary. I AM able to get to the recovery mode though, I just have nothing to recover from.... I misplaced my back-up.
So, I need SOMETHING to flash my phone to. 4.0/2.0/I don't care, I just need any rom/SBF to make this bad boy boot again. Anybody have anything?
I saw and downloaded the first thing that shows up when you google "droid-4-system-dump-wallpapers-ringtones.html" (link doesn't work because I'm new) But, I was unable to make anything of it.... What do I do?
Just to help others avoid the same fate can you please let us all know what you did?

Well, in hindsight it was kind of dumb. I rooted it, and began to remove all of the VZW sponsored apps. Once I did that, it cleared out a lot of memory (storage AND ram) but seemed to come with the downside of preventing my "settings" activity opening up. As in, whenever I hit "menu" then "Settings" from the main launcher, it would force close behind the scenes (logcat showed the stack trace for the settings activity).
I spent the next day trying to fix that issue, copying "settings.apk" from that link I mentioned earlier to my root director, but that didn't fix it. So, I went and tried copying entire folders over. This is the embarrassing part... I hit a 'delete' button on the "system/apps" folder, got about 30 force close windows, and am now stuck in a bootloop.
Doing the "power + both volume buttons" still gives me the recovery menu, but I don't have anything to recover to, as I was stupid and didn't think to make a backup.

I'm curious about this too - I deleted a bunch of vzw garbage. I did make a copy of of everything with titanium backup first but when I tried re-installing one of them it just hung while another re-installed fine.
I had a similar issue with one app - I had to go into /system/app and change it form RO to RW. Once Read/Write was enabled, Titanium was able to restore the app.
I have been playing it safe and only freezing the apps, not deleting them. I have had no FC or any odd behavior. I figured with an allocated 3 gb to applications, at this time gaining an extra 100MB of storage space is superfluous...especially with no SBF available.
As mentioned above, try going to the VZW store and getting an exchange. I'm certain an .sbf will be released at some point but it could be weeks/months before that happens.
And for future reference/anyone else reading this thread...never delete system apps! Just freeze them. Yes they will still be taking up space, but they won't be using any memory and they won't show up in your launcher so it's basically the same thing...except with freezing it is 100% reversible and will still allow you to receive updates.
Can someone upload these files from D4:
/system/build.prop
/system/default.prop

What is the best way to freeze apps? I know you can do this with Titanium Backup. Do you need the pro version in order to do this? Are there other apps out there that also allow you to freeze apps?

You do need the Pro version of Titanium Backup to freeze apps I believe. There are free apps that will do it (i.e. Bloatware Killer) but I am not really familiar with them.

The link that I was referring to in the first post SHOULD have every file from the D4.
I meant if he needed any of the other partitions besides the system.
I wanted to give him exactly what he asked for because he is avery sharp guy who may help us out with this device.
Unfortunately I did the same (though not as bad...I just can't open any of my contacts). I changed the permissions for /system/apps but I still am hanging at restoring in Titanium Backup. Are there any other directories that should have changed permissions to get some of these apps restored?
Also, lesson learned....freeze no uninstall

That's the only path I had to change. Do you recall if you happened to have moved an app to a different path (perhaps to the sd-card) then removed it?
Are there multiple apps you are trying to restore? If so, have you tried restoring them one at a time?
im going to wait for the sbf files before any major modifications to my phone, then we can all start the fun
i just froze apps to prevent them from running, im not worried about space since i put in a 32GB SD card
I think it's very wise to wait for the firmware to be released, but it's worth noting that the term SBF is a mistaken reference to the old format for firmware files and that all dual core Motorolas have fastboot support now and RSD Lite has been modified to support this and uses xml.zip files that are sets of signed images rather than the Single Binary File(SBF).
This is a very important distinction to be made as the new format and boot menu provide many more options for controlling the flash process for the end user and it is ultimately much safer and more flexible.

Lost Data Files After Update

After the update last night, all my folders with data files (files I created, documents, shortcuts, etc.) are gone. My program files are OK. I have searched and cannot find a way to get them back. Thanks for the replies. I think I know the problem. I found one of the back-ups on OneDrive. It restored all programs and settings. It did not restore data files. I believe that is because they were not backed up, my bad. I can't seem to find a back-up on Google, so I must not have done that. At least I didn't lose anything critical, just a lot of shortcuts and websites I bookmarked.

oh right, I understand you more clearly now. I don't think you can backup app data in such a way. the only method that can do this without root is by ADB which has to be done one app at a time. some apps can be backed up by copying there folders from /storage/emulated/0/Android/data or /Android/media but even then that might not be everything you need for a full backup.
any folders apps create outside of the Android folder can be copied to external memory and copied back later. I have to do this to guarantee that my messaging apps will have all the media I've previously downloaded.
I downloaded a program called GoodLock which saves the items on your home screen and supposedly back them up. I don't know if that just means the icons or it backs up the data. I hope I never have to find out
