Google cam is worse than stock cam on latest update! - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Guides, News, & Discussio

In my opinion, the google cam is not so good compared to the stock cam. Today i just successfully install gcam using the fastboot command non-root method, i did expect a lot that gcam could significantly improve the overall quality. But tbh, it fails, even on the hdr test, the stock cam app beats it absolutely. Anyone got the same results? Share with me your thought
Sorry for bad English!

Ok you may have managed installing gcam without root but w/o root you surely never can enable cam2api.
And i doubt w/o cam2api gcam can perform well.

How is the battery life on los 15.1??
Its good
Resurrection Remix 5.8.5 is very stable & as far as I'm concern, also bug-free.
To get better battery life, root it Magisk then install Greenify and Root Master (choose Battery mode).
Currently I'm using Pixel Launcher 3 instead of Trebuchet launcher from RR.
Status: Finish full charge on 7am, bring to work, connect to office Wi-Fi, back home at 6pm (also connect to Wifi), battery is still 48-51% remaining.

Does Resurrection need to wipe internal storage coming from Miui 9 Xiaomi.eu or I can flash it with simple system/data wipe? 120 GB of data is a bit annoying to be moved somewhere else.

Based on my experience moving from MIUI 8 Global Stable to Paranoid 7.2.1, it's not necessary to wipe the internal storage. Just make sure you have the right version of TWRP installed and flashed the most compatible fw version with the ROM you want to flash. As for RR, I use the capricornCNFirmware-7.11.16. Google it for the download link. Happy flashing...

A thing that I really want to know is: I'm moving to an AOSP ROM because Miui 9 system block some apps to properly working, so I want try on another ROM and I want root it,
1) can I go with SuperSU zip as usual or there are better alternatives?
And a very interesting thing I want know is
2) how does camera work? Is it good?
3) if I want apply camera mod to enable 1080p 60 FPS recording, does it work? Never tried?

If you currently use MIUI 9, make sure you unlock the bootloader first to be able to change the bootloader to TWRP. Only after successful install of TWRP you can begin flashing the custom ROM of your choice.
1) As for rooting, I use Magisk (install the zip via TWRP). Magisk comes with handy apps for you to download many interesting add-on module, such as Viper4 music equalizer, Google Product Sans font, Greenify, etc.
2) You can install gcam or even a ported Mi A1 camera apk. Browse through this XDA Xiaomi Mi5 forum. Plenty of information here
3) Sorry. Never tried this. Maybe anybody else can help?

60fps can be forced in some 3rd party camera apps(Google camera mods for instance) via modifying a system file, but the effect is actually the opposite. 30fps videos get about 22fps and 60fps gets 24fps. As far as i know it's IMPOSSIBLE to really record 1080p 60fps with Mi5. Probably some hardware limitation, otherwise it would be enabled by default, there have been many official updates since release.

Oh no it is possible to record in 1080p at 60 FPS infact OnePlus 3 with same hardware of Mi 5 already support this function since 2016 (shame on Xiaomi which still doesn't give us this possibility). But fortunately we have great independent developers who try to get us all features to our phone, infact on a forum some good devs were able to bring us recording in 1080p at 60 FPS. Check the Mi 5 mod section to find it and be able to use it.
Tried it, doesn't really work, I thought I made it work too. Read what I said... As far as I've read on all forums, nobody made it work, so it must be impossible. I can really love with it though.

Aug. -> Sept. Update (OTA) with Camera2API (HAL3) (&best gCam) safe!

Hey Folks,
after reading a lot i switched from my Galaxy S7 to the Mi A2 and im really happy with the camera - after unlocking Camera2API and switched to modded gCam I unlocked Camera2API over the temp. TWRP method and adb (in the TWRP terminal) on my August Version.
Now i was very unsure, if the official September OTA Update breaks my gCam Setup - but after the update :fingers-crossed: the modded gCam works perfect :highfive: so i dont need to redo the Camera2API unlocking :good:
@@@Best gCam Mod@@@
Thx to "celsoazevedo.com" for the nice Site: bsgfixPortrait-GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.2.apk
All is working +SloMo +RAW :good:
Info: Use classic Smart Burst and Enable HDR+ Toggle
I hope, i could help anyone with the decision to make the OTA Update and which gCam is the best (so far) :good:
Great, i want to do that but i have the latest update ( september 1st and second update) and as far has i know the I unlocked Camera2API over the temp. TWRP method and adb (in the TWRP terminal) does not work for the ones that have the latest update.
Has it said in here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/how-to/tutorial-camera2api-gcam-root-t3842475
I don´t want to root, just want camera2api enabled.
But maybe you can flash the complete Firmware from August (unlock bootloader with critical part.) and flash the complete older (August) firmware. Then unlock the camera2api and update the OTA (Septmber) This was my emergency plan, if the OTA would destroy the unlock.

Tks, i tought that also, but for now i don´t want to mess too mutch with downgrade and command shell, just a clean unlock bootloader, enable camera2api and nothing more. I think the problem is TWRP, i will wait for an stabel/official version so i can go any further.
Can you record in 4K with google camera? For me it is not working no meter what gcam port I try.
Nope, but 4K is without stabilisation and only useable, when you own a ststiv or a gimbal. Free Hand recordings looks like **** in 4k. 1080p is with EIS and look way better, then sharp and shaky 4k
4k with EIS is just possible in "Snap Camera"

When camera2api is enabled, opencamera loses option for 4K. 1080p EIS works, but with zooming image.

camera2api with stock app alongside gcam

There is any downside in doing that? Can I supply che missing feature of gcam with the stock camera app?
I had enable the camera2api with magisk not all function of gcam work as always but seems I can use the stock app just fine so:
What's the trouble about using gcam at all I I can use also the stock app?
How I can remove the camera2 API?(I think unistall the magisk module is sufficient to return to stock right?)

Question on options for custom Android 9 or 10 ROM

Hello!
Any custom Android 9 or 10 ROM which has all of these features (and works well overall)?
1. Working GCam OR full stock camera (any of the two is fine);
2. Working camera button;
3. Night light.
Also, am I correct that the Oreo AOSP Extended has both of these options?
Thanks in advance.

As I mentioned in my other post full stock cam and Gcam GO is available in:
Linagege OS: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...rom-lineageos-17-1-unofficial-coming-t4047763
Havoc OS: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/development/rom-havoc-os-v3-6-t4113345
The shutter button works in Lineage OS, but is broken in Havoc. But you can use the double tap to open camera gesture.
Also Gcam Go is a lite version of Gcam with only portrait mode (not yet working) and HDR+ available. Hopefully more features will be ported by developers.
Night light is available in both ROMs. Others I have not tried.
Hopefully this helps.
Thanks a lot. That's very useful.
Hi again. I noticed one can install LOS17 starting from the latest (and probably last) firmware. I assume this entails losing DRM keys. Are they worth saving anymore?

As far as I know there is no photo comparison album comparing camera quality going from a DRM restored firmware and non DRM restored firmware so I don't know how much of a difference it makes.
But the ROM developers do recommend backing up DRM as it is might come in useful in the future or if you want to go back to stock. Based on what I have seen in the Lineage OS thread it is unknown why the camera works without DRM.
I would recommend backing it up since once it is lost it is lost, and restoring it to the official firmware before flashing a custom ROM guarantees that you have the best possible camera quality.
As addition info:
As far as I know there is no way to re-lock the bootloader which might make it harder to sell it so if you are planning on selling I would not recommend unlocking the bootloader.
Otherwise, happy flashing!
Wise advice about the drm. Thanks again.

I made the switch to LOS 17. It took me some 5 hours to downgrade to Oreo, save DRM, switch back to Pie and then install a fully-working LOS (the first two installs generated some issues with both cameras - the stock Sony did not focus or take photos at all, while the stock LOS was not saving pics - and with the SD); but it then finally worked (procedures followed were the same every time, go figure).
Also, I lost my attest keys in the process of downgrading to Oreo (although I did remove all persist and *.ta files before flashing); and the camera was black after this downgrade - but then the procedure worked eventually and the camera came back fully featured in Pie, somehow. Again, go figure.
All in all, I am happy for the switch and the LOS 17 is absolutely great. Will definitely buy modpunk a beer.
Now, if only there was an equally good procedure and ROM for my other phone, the xz2c, which Sony ruined with the upgrade to Q .
Thanks once again for the encouragement.

Hey, what is the native camera app you have on those? Is it good? I've got a global rom on my cc9 meitu edition but the native camera app on the global sucks big time, it is not nearly as good as they native camera app that came installed on the original Chinese stock rom.

Native camera is AOSP version. I do not use it. I am using gcam 6.2 because this is the newest version which works in a11 without buffer fix. When buffer fix will be fixed for a11 I will use better.

And indeed it's a good camera, even though I am comparing now with the exact same phone stock version camera app that my brother has and is much better, I don't know why.
But the Gcam will do for now, so thanks.
I have a question: is it possible to adjust the shutter time? It's taking like 3 seconds to shoot the photo when I shoot it. Know what I mean?

I hear you. Is there any newer version of gcam available as of now? For our phone?
EDIT: I just realized Gcam takes pics only with 12mp max. Since my phone has 48mp, how do I fix this?
Also, the colors on photos in Gcam are washed, no vivid color even though I set the saturation to maximum on settings.
Also, is it possible, via TWRP, to uninstall the native camera app and install the APK from com.mlab.cam that came stock on my phones stock firmware?
We have some or many but for A10. I have written, we do not have working version of buffer fix for a11.
You can find a lot of XML config files for many gcam on telegram. Each separate prepared for different situations .

No need to uninstall, you can install in twrp what you want.

On the telegram group someone gave the directions to install the buffer fix and now I was able to download the latest Gcam, and it's working like a charm (except for the slow-motion video, which isn't available on the latest version).
Big thanks from the heart, mate. Have a good one.
Do you use android 10 with buffer fix for a10, or use a11 with bf for a11 or use a11 with bf for a10 ?
Using A11 with BF for A11.
