Caller ID & Spam menu missing on Boost G6 Play - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

Caller ID & Spam menu is missing on my Boost G6 Play.
Is it just me, or all G6 play, or just the Boost Mobile G6 Play?
I am not able to find that menu even updated the Phone app to the latest version in PlayStore

Those are handled through the caller ID app not the phone app

you mean the Sprint Caller ID app?

Yes. It's handled through the stock caller ID app

It's an automatic process

I see
I just want to use the one provided by Google

Im not 100% sure on this but I feel like the option is prolly available on a custom rom, or unlocked phone because most of em are usually stock Android with no bloatware from carriers which allows that option to be available, but since we are technically on Sprint we have there carrier process and all that so it's not available because Sprint offers there own. If that makes sense lol

I feel the same too.
At least now I know the Boost G6 Play does not have that option. Thank you
I might want to try install other phone app to do the task. I am using the modded phone app on Verizon E4 but I think that might not work on G6 Play as it already has one.

Call Firewall

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading from a Tmobile Dash to a G1 but need to know if there is a program on the Android platform similar to the CallFirewall program on Windows where it will take an incoming call and sends it directly to voicemail if on the blacklist. It's actually a deal breaker for me as I love the flexible whitelist / blacklist options on CallFirewall.
Thanks!
How does that functionality built into the os tickle your fancy?
In every contact entry there's a checkbox that says "send calls to voicemail" it makes it so your phone doesn't ring or show the call, the missed call is in the log but no notification... and best yet to the person on the phone its as if you haven't done a thing... rings all the way to VM
there's a callblocker app on the market for free.

Yes, its by bratag =] requires root access, so root your phone before downloading.
What does that mean? Root your phone?
Also, could someone tell me how many contacts the phone will hold?
I'm leaning toward getting one.

Android is linux based and the super user account is called 'root', there is various ways to root android phones and you can even buy an ADP (Android Developer Phone) which comes by default with super user access enabled.

Android (not just G1) uses SQLite to store information and depending on ram etc it's for all intents and purpose limitless.
Cool, thanks about the contacts.
Still not sure what the root thing means, but with a built in call blocker I guess it doesn't really matter

i cant seem to find the bratag app... anyone has a clue??

Check this out

Works amazingly.
I also can't find bratag's call blocker on the market anymore. Does anyone still have a copy of the app?

[Q] Disable Moto Voice in favor of Google Now

Does anyone know of a way to disable Moto Voice and simply use the voice wake to activate Google Now? Perhaps via an Xposed module?
Moto Voice, in it's current iteration is too slow and not value added enough for me to prefer it over Google Now. Plus, if I hear "Opening Google" one more time, I'm going to go crazy.

it's pretty simple: open the Moto App, tap the Settings button on top right, tap the Voice button/icon and uncheck the Launch phrase. you might have to setup up voice activation on Google Now. like you i prefer Google Now for the time being. hope this was helpful.:good:

That will disable the voice wake. I'm looking for a way to jump straight into Google Now anytime I say my Moto Voice launch phrase.
OK, yeah that's different. Interpreted that you wanted to just go to Google Now. With my suggestion, saying "OK Google" takes you to Google Now (vs your moto launch phase).

Do you have the pure edition or carrier? Pure if you root there is a way to do it, if its carrier and locked you can't, sorry. Hopefully Lollipop will make it possible too, Nexus 6 has ambient display to rip off active display, and will use the always listening chip it has to act like moto voice, but built into google now.

Thanks! Now I need to figure out if I want to root my phone now or wait for L and Xposed to run on ART.
Lollipop is supposed to be able to do ok google from screen off with phones using the always listening chips. The nexus 6 and 9 are supposed to use it with theirs. I'm still hoping that our moto's well be able to use it as part of stock android so i don't have to use moto voice at all. Only i don't know if they intend to add custom phrase support, which i could stand losing. Though i concur about ART xposed, that i can't wait for.

Thanks. I haven't rooted yet. This may be a task for later. Was hoping someone might have had good experience with something from the play store.
Hiya is pretty good. It doesn't require root, has blocking capabilities (though not before it rings once, usually). I'm not sure how resource hungry it is.
I am also looking for some way to have Full or Half screen caller id pictures like I used to have on my Xperia XZ Premium!

Sprint VVM for Unlocked Note 8

I'm looking for a way to get Sprint Visual Voicemail without all of Sprint's bloatware. As stated in the title, I have the Unlocked Note8. I see that other carriers offer an app in the Play Store for visual voicemail, but it looks like for Sprint it only comes in a package deal. I was just wondering if there was an apk out there or something.

flash my rom with flashfire. its included as well as the wifi calling etc. This will block hotspot by default if not on ur plan so ull have to edit the apns or do the hotspot trick to get it working . otherwise its the best way to go if you are sprint!

I did the same thing. I have the app, but my voicemails don't show up on the VVM app. They go straight to old school voicemail. I'm not sure if I need to do something special to activate it.
That is the same results I have gotten. App seems to function correctly just not connecting to email server. I will keep searching for solution.

Any update
I was about to give in and use Google voice integration with sprint, but now that is being deprecated june 1st 2018. A thread from sprint keeps promising a visual voicemail for unlocked phones would be released, but the release date just keeps slipping in perfect vaperware fashion.
I pray for an answer.

Sprint users will still be able to use Google Voice as a forwarding service like other people with different carriers do. What's ending is the Sprint integration which is different from the forwarding service for voicemail.
I want visual voicemail, or to use Google voice mail with my sprint phone, phone number to essentially get visual voicemail.. That is what is ending.. Right?
From Idrees Patel's article on front page of XDA;
"However, it does not affect customers who use Google Voice with a Sprint forwarding phone who have not enabled the “Google Voice with Sprint” integration, as only the integration is being disabled."
I have been with Sprint for at least six or seven years and have had Google Voice the entire time. The "Sprint Integrated Google Voice" is going away but that just means you can't COMBINE your Sprint and Google Voice numbers into a single number for outgoing and incoming calls.
This only really affects people that used the outgoing services of Google Voice, i.e. International callers in my experience. There is a simple test to see if you will be affected by this. If you have a Google Voice phone number that is different from your Sprint cell phone number you will not be affected by the change on June 1st.
If your current cell number is listed as your Google Voice number then your phone is "integrated" and you will need to apply for a new Google Voice number.
I have had my phone integrated and non-integrated with GVoice over the years and it never affected voicemail forwarding and transcription. THAT, is what I (and I believe the vast majority of users) care about and is not changing so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Keep in mind it will work but it's not a 100% port, no voicemail tab and spam will work but force close every time you choose a number to spam

So I was able to get it installed with adb and the setting that you posted a screenshot of is present and toggled on, however I am not getting caller ID info on any number that has called. We tested several different numbers to no avail. Any ideas?
The only official releases that broadly work on most android phones are the "go" versions.
Latest one is from Dec 17th, 2018:

Caller ID and Spam blocking does work. Voicemail tab works as well but carrier dependent

For caller ID, you need to go into the phone settings and enable nearby locations (and give the location permission).

For those who have installed the Google dialer and claim that caller id works, can you please verify if you mean enhanced caller id which shows a name, number, and city or just plain caller id that shows number and sometimes city/state. Thanks in advance.

My CallerID is working but only as far as it is a CONTACT I already know of. Not the spam detection. I have no idea how they get the unknown-contact caller ID.
My S10e has the Hiya! powered Samsung one for the main dialer.
Just an FYI, my only interest in using the Google dialer was for enhanced caller id. For some reason when I first got the phone I tried Hiya and it did not display unknown names. I downloaded it again today and upon opening it asked for permission for overlays. This didn't occur on the 1st install. Upon allowing this permission, I am now getting the enhanced caller id functions in Hiya. It even updated my recent call list to show the names of the unknown numbers I called or received calls from yesterday. Hopefully this can be a solution for those in this thread looking for that functionality.
