Samsung Note 9 Sim Unlock Code? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I have a question. I want to sell my Note 8 and upgrade to Samsung Galaxy Note 9 as soon as it will be available (in few weeks). As I now it will be carrier locked and I will need sim unlock code, so my question - can I unlock my brand new phone the same day or I will need to wait for database update or smth? If so, I will keep my Note 8 for few month more.
[UPDATE 27.08.18] I have successfully unlocked my phone using this service: MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED
Thank you guys for help

:victory:
I have unlocked my Note 9 phone

you will need to check details first, because carrier will forward you to a huge 'requirements' list first before you will get your sim unlock code. I think the easiest way here - to find some third party service online

I miss the good old days when passing the device off was the only requirement! Good old days.... 2 years ago?

I'm attempting a SIM unlock on a Sprint Note 9, and noticed your post and link... THANK you! Although, after running the App, and it states it is permanently unlocked however, when putting in any other SIM, it says UICC SIM locked.
So, I wanted to ping you and ask if you personally used this service and did it work for you? what were your steps, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

Why not buy one that is already unlocked? What carrier are you planning on buying it on? Not all carriers lock LTE phones anymore

UICC unlock can only be done after meeting Sprints requirements. Has to be paid off and account in good standing.

From reading online...you get that issue with Sprint....Hard locked. But if you can get Sprint to toggle the UICC sim lock off and on...it does the trick...... See this discussion below:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/comments/8l634t/text_saying_phone_is_unlocked_uicc_unlock_says_no/
Let us know if it worked.

Ive had a stupid amount of phones and some SIm Locked
I went to https://sim-unlock.net/ and went through them. I think i had one failure before and that was because i asked for the unlock code the day the device came out.
Worth taking a peek but also try checking with the carrier - They might beable to help

If it's blacklisted, there is a reason... We can't help you with that here. Contact provider or return phone to rightful owner.

Absolutely,a phone blacklisted this early in the game has either been reported as lost,or stolen outright.
It's a bit soon for a phone to be unusable for a delinquency on payment (via carrier/etc..).
AFAIK,if it is a delinquency, the US Carriers co-operate w/each other & will not allow for use, until the debt is turned over to a collection agency, which is a months long process.
So yes,if someone bought a phone at an extreme discount, there's a good reason why it was so cheap, buyer beware...........................

As best I can tell, given the country & carrier you have listed, the SM-N9600 appears to be the best match.
The model your carrier is selling is the Qualcomm version (SM-N9600).
https://www.a1.bg/ustroystva/smartfoni/samsung/galaxy-note-9.3751
However, the Samsung Exynos SM-N960F (Single SIM) or SM-N960F D/S (Dual SIM) is also compatible w/100% of your networks bands.
The Qualcomm SM-N960U Models are used on US/North American Carriers, while the SM-N960U1 is the US/North American (SIM) Unlocked model.
Steer clear of the US models, for several reasons, varying from each specific carrier model, mainly update issues.....trust me on this one.
If you're wishing for aftermarket development (Root/ROMs),the SM-N960F or SM-N960F D/S is the one to get.
Most 3rd party sellers have the phones SIM Unlocked, definitely ask before buying.

1) US Cellular phones are not SIM locked.
https://www.uscellular.com/site/legal/mobile-wireless-device-unlocking.html
The Note 9 on US Cellular is the same exact phone that's used on the rest of the US Carriers (SM-N960U).
If you're going to use it on another US carrier other than US Cellular, you may need to flash that carriers firmware for the best results possible.
2) None of the US Models of the Note 9 (SM-N960U or SM-N960U1) have a 2nd SIM slot, they're all single SIM phones.

Aren't you just supposed to pop in another carrier's sim and it shows up?

SM-N960F no pop up using different sims
I have a SM-N960F no pop up using different sims. It is an Optus branded phone here in Australia and I'm using a Telstra SIM in it, how ever the wifi calling isnt even an option, but is if I use the origional sim which is in my wifes s9+ now. I have tried the Telstra SIM and one from Vodaphone but non cause a POP UP where I would enter a code. I paid and processed for an unlock code with the links here which took me to samsungsimunlock
So how do I unlock the phone if there is no POP UP??
Thanks in advance
Marc

I just put a sim from another carrier on my note9 and it worked right away, the carrier that sells the note 9 in Mexico would definitely not sell an unlocked device they even specifically told me that it couldnt be unlocked until the contract time is over, but im sure as hell that it is working with a sim from another carrier.

I have tried for over the past 24 hours to contact that site samsungsimunlock with no reply until I put in a paypal claim then got a reply back stating my order has been put on hold due to the dispute and was almost ready and I needed to cancel the paypal claim for it to proceed and my code would be delivered with in next 1-2 hours, that was several hours ago and they gave me a 100% gurantee.... is a scam from a Russian site group. I agree with what the previous poster from Mexico says..... My Telstra SIM here in Australia works fine in my NOTE 9 from Optus, but can confirm if I put the optus sim in the optus to turn wifi calling on and off is available and in my contacted video calling is there by default and not needing to use duo to make video calls, if I have the telstra sim in wifi calling icon is light blue and an not be turned on or off, I noticed in a call today in the upper left of the screen said HD calling and need to use duo to make video calling...

Truth of AT&T Software update - Galaxy S6 Active

Hi All
Last week I visited my company HQ in San jose.
And good news I can get a Galaxy S6 active with ATT GoPhone prepaid service.
When I stayed in USA, CA. I didn't expect Software update. Becuase, its very newly phone. I'm very satisfied Galaxy S6 active's overall performance.
But this is my big mistake.
When I came back to south korea, I noticed revised firmware are available in AT&T OTA(FOTA/Update) server.
See : http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB426851&cv=820
So I decided OTA update then push "About phone - Software update "
But every time displayed as "Software interrupted" also reviewed adb logcat log, many error displayed by "CLIENT AUTH Error"
=> It seems FOTA server authenticate through ATT CIngular APN then if authenticate successful, Firmware file download via Wi-FI network.
I don't understand because i activated as AT&T Go Phone prepaid service, why I can't get and update AT&T Official OTA through ATT OTA server.
Thus I request my US colleague and he asked to ATT REP regarding this OTA problem.
Few minute ago my colleague forwarded ATT REP answer "they have no way to add an imei to update servers unless that device is active on the AT&T network."
If you get a software update via OTA oneshot, IMEI Registration and device is active on the AT&T network
[Preparaion for Software update via OTA]
Active AT&T Sim card
AT&T branded device (Galaxy S6 ATT or Galaxy S6 Active ATT or Galaxy S6 Edge ATT)
Wi-fi AP or hotspot.
Do you have another get a ATT OTA method without active ATT sim or account?
Or If you have successful OTA experience without active ATT sim or account,Please let us know.
Because, I hope to get a minor or major OTA in any oversea country.
Also I really really wouldn't understand AT&T Software's policy.
I have never seen this kind of OTA limitation is powerful Carrier in the UNIVERSE or COSMOS. It must be corrective by FCC.
For reference, Now VZW recent device get a latest FOTA update even NON-vzw sim and NON-vzw network.
I could update Verizon LG G3 device with NO SIM status in South korea.
Found ATT official announcement from ATT Official forum.

There isn't a legal requirement for any software company to offer updates to software. So regulating the distribution methods and choices is probably out of the question.
Any improvements to the product are for your convenience. Yes, we have come to expect them but again, there is no obligation by the manufacturer to offer them at all.
This thread title needs to be changed to

Yah, seems like if you want OTA update, you must have an activated AT&T SIM card... Your best bet if you are in the US is to find a friend who has AT&T and borrow their SIM card so you can authenticate against the AT&T OTA server.

******I have an inportant information.******
I have a friend in Vietnam, I and him got an S6A.
I bought an S6A in Bestbuy, paid off.
He bought and S6A in ATT shop, paid off too.
But
I can get the unlock code after 2 days request in ATT webs => The staff in bestbuy told me, I can get the code if I buy ATT device in best buy for Free.
He tried like me, but the system said no => I asked 3 customers service in ATT website before, all of them said I have to contract an ATT SIM for 2 months (minimum $45/month for SIM card) and I could get unlock code after that for "free" after paid at least $90 for them.
the Important thing is :
My S6A (bestbuy) Cannot get OTA update (unlock or non-unlock) if I dont have ATT SIM.
His S6A (ATT shop) Can get OTA update (unlock or non-unclock) without ATT SIM card and another carrier in used. (he can get OTA for OF3 and the newest OF4).
*Yesterday,he bought an unlock code in a Vietnam mobile phone shop and It was unlocked, now he can use the vietnam's carrier.
I will show you the screenshot of his phone after I go home.
Sorry about my English.

If you live in another country, I have no Idea for S6A which you buy in Bestbuy.

Unlock the phone and use like an perfect phone ever. S6A can use full options of GSM, UMTS and LTE.

Galaxy Notes 8 Unlocked Version vs T-Mobile Version

Which is the better version for Galaxy Note 8 when purchasing directly from Samsung.com.
Should I get the unlocked version or the T-Mobile version? Which version get the update more frequently and faster? I read from reddit forum once that if you purchase the T-mobile verion directly from Samsung, it will be locked to T-mobile. And there is no way to unlock through T-Mobile? Is it correct?
Thank you very much
You don't owe them any money on it, so they should be able to give you the code.
The big difference will be in loss of functionality.
Unlocked versions don't work with carrier specific features like WiFi calling and in some cases, tethering.
It's one of the reasons why I ordered the AT&T version instead of the unlocked version.
I actually use WiFi calling a lot.

the unlocked variant will not have video calling for sure, and no carrier specific apps. It should still have wifi calling though. my unlocked s7 edge had wifi calling, just no video calling. keep in mind that you may be able to flash the t mobile firmware on the unlocked variant like in the past on the s7 and s8's. totally safe without tripping knox. now if you get the t mobile branded note 8, you be able to unlock it after 40 days. long as you don't owe a balance to t mobile.

It comes with the Sprint higher bands so maybe the other carrier bands will be there.
I got the Note8 from Samsung because of the Note 7 discount. Initially I was going to get an unlocked version as I'll be travelling internationally early next year. But I switched to the TMo version because that will ship Sept 11 while the unlocked version will ship Sept 21. No other reason.
Yes, I am that anxious to get it early.

Doubt the T-Mobile version will ever be rooted, so that is something to take into account when considering the unlocked version vs TMobile.
Not sure I would want to pay $900 for a phone that I can't root.

I have a feeling u must of spoken to a newbie rep... they will give u a hassle and probably say to put $200 or $300 down if u owe money on the phone.. but they have been given smoother unlocks lately if the phone has been paid off by sometimes unlocking after a few days to a week...
I heard that there is no way to unlock the T-mobile version when buying from Samsung.com? People are having problem trying to unlock it through T mobile

My S8 Plus, I bought off eBay, the person bought it of Samsung.com
when I got it in June, the next day I went to a T-Mobile store and put insurance, and I tried to do the device unlock and it didn't work, went to my account to check the phone status and the imei didn't show, and till today it doesn't show but it has been added, and it doesn't unlock status either my account,
but I called T-Mobile to add the imei and after trying to convince the rep to please put the order in, she said call Samsung, I said politely please I don't want to go through a runaround, they will tell me to call u, when u get the phone they release it with the unlock code, happened to me with HTC years ago, I said speak with ur manager, she put me on hold for a while, and they put my request in to add the imei, I waited 3 days then called back cause I didn't see the imei added, but T-Mobile said the order went through and they can see my imei, and trying to convince another newbie rep, he passed me to his supervisor to my surprise without getting disconnected, the supervisor gave me his word he would take care of it and that I wouldn't have to call back, I tried the device unlock 2 times a day.. the 3rd day it unlocked.. took about 6 to 7 days.. this phone unlock was the fastest ever for me in T-Mobile..

but I called T-Mobile to add the imei and after trying to convince the rep to please put the order in, she said call Samsung, I said politely please I don't want to go through a runaround, they will tell me to call u, when u get the phone they release it with the unlock code, happened to me with HTC years ago, I said speak with ur manager, she put me on hold for a while, and they put my request in to add the imei, I waited 3 days then called back cause I didn't see the imei added, but T-Mobile said the order went through and they can see my imei, and trying to convince another newbie rep, he passed me to his supervisor to my surprise without getting disconnected, the supervisor gave me his word he would take care of it and that I wouldn't have to call back, I tried the device unlock 2 times a day.. the 3rd day it unlocked.. took about 6 to 7 days.. this phone unlock was the fastest ever for me in T-Mobile..

It is quite a hassle to unlock it. I'm not so sure that I will be that lucky like you are. Let see
Note that T-mobile requires you to have the device active on their line before you can request to Unlock the device. So if you aren't a Tmo customer and plan to just get that phone and unlock it, you're in for a surprise. Here's the bigger question, and it may be my ignorance so please be kind. Why do you want to unlock a TMO branded phone ASAP, if you are a TMO customer?
Unlock requirements
We provide mobile device unlock codes free within two business days (or provide further information about timing) for eligible devices.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
Device eligibility is determined as follows:
The device must be a T-Mobile device.
The device must not be reported to T-Mobile as lost, stolen, or blocked.
The account associated with the device must not be canceled, and be in good standing.
You have requested no more than two mobile device unlock codes per line of service in the last 12 months.
The device must satisfy all the Postpaid or Pay in Advance (Prepaid) Unlocking terms outlined below.
T-Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.

No, I dont want to unlock it right away. In the future, I will travel out of the country. I will need to unlock it to use it when I'm out of the country. I'm just afraid that I cannot unlock them at all because I read some posts from Reddit. People said that T-mobile refuses to unlock their T-mobile phone purchasing from Samsung.com. And it is easier to re-sell it in the future if I need to

I unlock them right away, cause I paid for my phone, I want it unlocked that's all... they shouldn't be locked anyways, for 900 to 1000 dollars, be for real, and then they want u to have it active for 40 days and paid off, one time they made me pay around 200 extra, I told them I gonna pay it off in 2 weeks, was waiting on my check, and paid 400, they send the unlock code, now its with the device unlock feature but not for the Note 4, the device unlock didn't come with that model.
I travel outside to the DR and use a local sim, not to get charged 20 cents a minute.
you can sell it for a few more dollars when selling it. tmobile phone r better for the frequencies handle almost all carriers internationally and US.
just be polite, tell them to add the imei if its from Samsung, just say they told me to call you, please I don't want to go through a runaround.. blah blah,,, but politeness will get u sooner most of the times...

Making an ATT Note 9 (unlocked) work on Verizon Wireless

Hi Guys,
I purchased a used Galaxy Note 9 that has the ATT startup and boot animation. I check the IMEI number and it's good, so I went ahead and unlocked the phone through a paid service. When I insert my Verizon sim card, it says that a "Network Locked" sim card has been inserted.
Do I need to load a different firmware to get this to work? I thought the Note 9 supported both GSM and CDMA with the same hardware, but maybe I'm wrong. I haven't posted in here in a while and if this is in the wrong spot, I apologize.
Thanks in advance!

Damn...thank you guys...apparently, the online service said their servers are down and they can't access their database now.
I tried two others so I hope one of them comes up with a successful unlock code. I rechecked the IMEI number and that still comes back good, so I guess it's a waiting game. Thank you for the advice!

Thanks man, just signed up for his service...I will let you know how it pans out. Thank again!
So I was able to get a Note 9 phone I purchased used sim / network unlocked. It was previously on ATT and I'd like to use it on Verizon now. Is it possible to do this? It shows my number, but any other sim information says unknown.
I'm guessing I have to load some kind of Verizon tower info (terminology might be wrong). I thought that stuff is in a CSC file or something. Not sure if I need to flash a whole new ROM, but any guidance would be appreciated.

Once you unlock the phone it will work with Verizon and will configure all the settings as soon as you insert the aim
That's what I thought, but this isn't working. It keeps bringing up the ATT boot animation. I did confirm again that the IMEI is successfully unlocked, but when I login to Verizonwireless on my PC and enter the IMEI it says it's not compatible with Verizon's network.
Is there a database somewhere that has this as a GSM only Note 9. This phone came from an ATT customer...who got the buy one get one free. I sim unlocked it with a third party service.
I'm just wondering if I'm under the false pretense it can handle both GSM and CDMA networks and maybe I'm locked to GSM only...
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You need to flash it to Verizon firmware . Unlike the note 8 carrier versions , the note 9 doesn't rebrand to what sim card is installed currently.

Hi I successfully flashed Verizon firmware and it still doesn't work.it still has att splash screen and won't connect to Verizon. Please help
Just to make sure that the phone is actually unlocked try T-mobile Sim see if it works.
And if T-mobile sim works then Try N960U1 (XAA) Firmware which is USA unlocked firmware for Unlocked Samsung Note 9 that works with all carriers. so once you insert Verizon sim, it should reboot and set it up for Verizon network.
I did it with T-Mobile Note 8 and was able to use it on Verizon network. Right now I have a Factory unlocked note 9. N960U1 can't really test it because it works with all carriers out of the box.

Did you ever got your AT&T note 9 working on verizon?
I haven't had access to any active Verizon sim cards so I could test them. I just got my note 9 512gbyesterday so I'm gonna give it a go. I'm sure it can happen. Where there's a will there's a way. My only issue is paying 53$ for unlocking. I know there are way cheaper services, I just want to be sure its credible
I have an ATT note 9 unlocked the sim, installed Stock SM-N960U1 USA Unlocked Firmware Odin "N960U1UEU1ARH2" and everything is working like a charm with my Verizon sim card.

I'm not w/VZW,but,I believe if your VZW SIM was activated in another phone, you should be able to drop the SIM Card in (& possibly setting up the APN) & that's it.
However,if you're starting new service w/VZW & the SIM Card hasn't been activated in another phone yet,a call to VZW's customer care is likely in order to get things rollin'.
Again,I'm not w/VZW,just going off memory of what I've read around various sites,so,if your still having issues, contact VZW.
FWIW,it's not the hardware, all US Note 9's are identical on the inside (less storage & RAM options).
Also, some have wrongly stated that flashing firmware will somehow magically SIM Unlock a phone, this is the furthest thing from the truth.
I already had the phone unlocked through a service. I got the code put it in and it said unlock successful. But when you start it up Att logo still shows up and the Verizon Sim does nothing. Other forums say you must upload the unlocked software from the unlocked version of the phone??

There's a few things that could be going on:
1) Even though you checked the IMEI to be clear, that is not a 100% full-proof guarantee of anything, less some proof the phone was paid off in full before you bought it.
Also, the phone might have been reported lost or stolen after you purchased it,but, before you actually took delivery of it (A scam artist coulda sold you the phone).
2) Not knowing which exact unlocking service you purchased, whatever you paid for may not have been what you needed for an actual SIM Unlock.
3) If the phone indeed was/is originally an AT&T Model,I'd guess you'd need to be running that firmware to ensure a proper SIM Unlock, but, don't quote me on that, for now.
I'm guessing you're gonna need to contact AT&T customer care regarding the SIM Status of your phone.................
Once that's resolved/SIM Unlocked,if you want to move to VZW firmware, yes, flash the unlocked (SM-N960U1) firmware 1st,then the VZW firmware afterwards,to ensure full functionality for VVM/Wi-Fi Calling/etc.......
You might be able to somehow get all of that working on unlocked firmware, but,I'm not up on all-things-VZW & the Note 9.
But,1st things 1st,get w/AT&T & see if there's anything going on preventing the phone from being SIM Unlocked before you waste any more money on SIM Unlocking services.
As far as paid services,I've used Masterunlockcode & UnlockBase w/a 100% success rate, there's others out there, some mentioned in this very section/thread..............

Incorrect Unlock Code from AT&T

Hi, I like to know if anyone else has the same problem and what options there are if any.
I bought a new AT&T Note 9 on Ebay. Seller told me the phone had been paid off so I went ahead and requested an unlock code from AT&T.
AT&T approved my request and provided the unlock code. Problem is that I kept getting message that the unlock code is incorrect. I have tried 3 times already and still got the same incorrect unlock code message.
Upon further research, I found that one may have up to 5 attempts to enter a code to unlock the phone. If entering incorrect code more than 5 times, the phone will be permanently locked to the network, in my case to AT&T.
I have been given the run around from both AT&T and Samsung. One says the other should be responsible for fixing the problem (!!!!).
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
Go to cellfunlocker and buy code..they will give you all codes you need

First question. It's an important one that you need to answer accurately. Did the original owner buy it from ATT or Samsung ?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Seller told me that the phone was purchased from AT&T and paid off, which seems accurate because AT&T already approved my unlock request even though the unlock code does not work.
Now with the blame game AT&T and Samsung are playing, I am not sure what else to do. Last resource will be to pay and get another unlock code from 3rd party.

I ran into the same issue. Apparently it's a common issue and one that ATT is not moving quickly to fix. I just bought an unlock code from cellunlocker. Now I just have to wait. Irritated since ATT is is supposed to do this for free and I already waited once for their useless unlock code. Now I have to wait for another one.
I submitted a request last week for a lock code from AT&T, then later that night said screw it, and purchased one from Cellunlockers.net. 2 days later, AT&T sent me the code (same one from Cellunlockers), and it was in the correct 16 digit format. So it looks fixed now, but you still have to wait 2 days. $25 gets you the code in a few hours. So I guess it all depends on how patient you are.

Must not be fixed for everyone. I requested a code from ATT last week and received the 8 digit code. I tried it again last night, and they sent me the same 8 digit code. Not sure why some are getting the correct 16 digit codes then. And its a wide spread problem if you search the forums. Even ATT's own support forums, and people there are saying the only solution is a 3rd party.

Both. I'm using it on T-Mobile, but need to leave the ATT firmware on it to unlock the SIM first. Then I'll flash either the U1 firmware or the TMo firmware. Haven't decided which yet.
The first Note 9 I bought was a Verizon model off eBay for $690. Two days later the seller "made a listing error," and meant to list it as a brand new ATT version for $900. He forced me to cancel the listing and issued a refund. Which has since been denied by HIS bank, so I don't have the device or my $690.
In the meantime, I found this ATT variant, which is mint condition, like new for $560. They listed it parts only, because it MIGHT be locked to a carrier. Before I purchased I verified it was clean, clear, and paid off and eligible to unlock. Now just dealing with getting the correct unlock code. It cost me $22.50, so I'm still in this for less than $600. So it's all good.

Sounds good. Hopefully the phone won't turn out blacklisted a few months down the line. I think you might be happier with the T-Mobile firmware due to functionality like RCS messaging etc. I believe wifi calling works on the U1 firmware but that's it. For Sprint anyways.

I don't think it will get blacklisted. If it does there's always PayPal buyer protection.
I don't use RCS, since I use Google Voice for my primary number, so I'm stuck with Hangouts anyway. WiFi calling worked on the N950U1, so I assume it will work on the N960U1. Seems like the signal was maybe a little better with the TMB firmware, but I cant remember for sure.
It worked!! Less than 12 hours later and I had a 16 digit code. I'm now running my T-Mobile SIM without issues!
Hi guys, quick question... Im about to try cellunlocker. My phone is Note 9 960F dual sim. So it comes with two IMEIs... which one do I give to the website? SIM 1 or SIM 2?
ive tried switching SIM cards between SIM 1 and SIM 2 and wherever I put the different network simcard, thats the one that is grayed out and stuck on 2G only. So either I have two unlock both SIM slots or maybe just one slot/ IMEI?
Thanks

It's a mixed bag. Some people got the full 16 digits. In my case on two separate ATT Note 9s, I only received 8 digits from ATT, so I had to get the correct code from cellunlocker.net, which was 16 digits.

If you can figure that out you will solve a 7 month old mystery. From what I've seen, ATT blames Samsung for giving them the wrong codes, and Samsung says ATT is providing the wrong codes. Either way, 3rd party vendors are able to get the 16 digits codes without issue.
Before the Note 9, Samsung phones used 8 digits codes. So it seems ATT did not update their system to provide the full 16 digit number. The number they give you is the first 8 digits, as though the full number was truncated by ATT's system. It just doesn't seem to be a priority on ATT's part to fix it.

You have to get the unlocked US variant N960U1. Works with all providers. I had mine with a T-Mon and now a Verizon sim. No problems on CDMA.
The international version will not work with Sprint or Verizon. I had once a international Note5 and had to buy a new phone.
Bestbuy is selling the N960U1

So is there anyone using an 9600 on Sprint USA?

Sprint will only allow certain USA unlocked phones on their network. Read the N9600 forums and you'll see that while some firmwares will work with Verizon, they're having a heck of a time finding a firmware that gives both an OEM unlock option and support for Verizon/Sprint bands.
Unless custom ROMs are a requirement, getting the N960U1 is the best you get on Sprint.

Simple answer. No. Sprint or Verizon will NOT activate the IMEI of any international/Chinese smartphone. If the IMEI of the phone is not in the carrier's database it cannot be activated, A while back you could pop in your currently activated SIM into an international phone and it would work as long as you flash the appropriate firmware and use the proper APN's. But today this is not possible. The SIM and IMEI both must be activated with the CDMA carrier Sprint or Verizon. The Chinese/Hong Kong Snapdragon Samsung's DO support all of the U.S. carrier bands but neither Sprint or Verizon can or will activate the IMEI of those international phones. I've already gone through this battle and so has many other people. People who say that Sprint or Verizon activated their Chinese/Hong Kong S8, Note 8 or Note 9 are lying and trying to look like special... Trust me they are not. Unfortunately the only options are to either switch to a GSM carrier and that will open up your phone choices or buy a U.S. unlocked phone like was suggested above. Don't waste you money buying a Chinese galaxy phone because you won't get it activated on Sprint or Verizon. 100% guaranteed.

Sprint and Verizon, they're a very fussy bunch of twats it would seem, ATT a close 2nd.
I remember, upgrading from a note 8 to a 9 was a choir compared to when I was with T-Mobile. I'll be setting aside another 30 or so mins to upgrades the wife's note 8 to a 9 when hers comes in on Tuesday, plus time and cost of new sim not included above.

Your Chinese Note 9 is not activated on Verizon. The international IMEI cannot and will not activate on the Verizon network. Your sim card might be activated along with the IMEI of a different phone [simultaneously] but it's definitely not activated. And unless the IMEI is registered on the network, the phone will not connect to the network. Period. Run along.

How about you provide a screenshot of your "About Phone" in settings and prove that your sim and IMEI are activated on Verizon. Include the "Status" section as well. This will prove it once and for all. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Like I said. You'd be the first and only person to get Verizon to activate an international Samsung S8, N9, S9 or N9. Prove your claim instead of getting angry.
