Charging other usb devices with my note - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I understand Note can charge devices such as my Bluetooth micro USB earphones, however i am straggling to get right cable i.e. micro USB to micro USB and perhaps an adaptor on Note 8 to convert it to C type.
Anyone done what i am trying to do?

Normally you only need to use the included OTG adapter. Connect it with your note 8 and connect a normal USB cable (USB to micro USB) with the device you want to charge. It should be automatically begin to charge the other device. Maybe you need to pull down the statusbar and tap the "android system charging" notification and tap it. Then it should open the menu you will see on my second screenshot. Select the last entry "charge connected device" and there you go. It should be charge the connected device

Can someone explain the USB sync/charge interface?

Ok, so hoepfully someone can clear this up as I don't yet have my Kaiser (tilt) and am trying to get some accessories.
I previously had a PPC-6700 which synced and charged via a standard mini-USB jack.
I then upgraded to the PPC-6800 which I only had for about a week (had to give it back to my work). With that device there was a different type of usb jack on it that seems to be what the Kaiser also has. Can someone tell me what this is called?
From my recollection however, this slightly different jack would also accept the typical mini-usb plug as i can remember using my PPC-6700 wall charger on it.
So can you use standard USB to mini-USB plugs to interface the Kaiser with either a PC for sync/charge or to a wall-charger? What is the new interface called and what is the point of it?
thanks much!
I may have actually answerd my own question as I have found (I think) the name for this new interface... EXTUSBTM ? Is this correct. And the point is to interface the charger/sync and audio headset together?
If this is all it does then I should be fine using all my old mini-usb plugs for data interface/charging, right?
thx!
Yes, you can use a standard 5 pin mini USB cable. The port is HTC's 11 pin combination sync/charge/audio port. Both their plug and the standard 5 pin mini USB plugs fit and work.
Wikipedia (for once!) isn't too big on details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_ExtUSB
But basically, it's got 11 pins to handle audio, power and syncing.
Have a look here for pinouts etc.

Connecting phone to PC via USB cable *without* charging?

Hi all - does anyone know if it's possible to connect the N1 to a PC (to do adb, shell etc) without charging the battery? Reason for question is, I am trying to do some kernel/configuration benchmarking and do not wish to skew the battery usage/uptime figures too much! (fairly theorhetical question, I guess, as I realise accessing the N1 via USB could itself use battery)
I don't believe there is a way to do that. the only way I could think of is to get a usb that can only transfer data and not a charge for the battery.

Cut up your USB cable and clip the wire attached to pin 1.
Caveat: I haven't tried this but it's certainly possible.
There is such a thing as un-powered usb ports. However, I believe the name is misleading, as in reality they are simply low powered (if memory serves correctly). However, it might be worth looking into if you can't successfully clip the power as in the previous post.

An unpowered USB hub will still pass power. It just gets a maximum of 5v from the computer so you can't power multiple devices that actually need any substantial amount of power.
A powered USB hub just makes sure that all of the ports get their full 5v.

[Q] Need Help with USB OTG Cable please !!!

Hi all
I have samsung galaxy S i9000 and I have bought a chinese USB OTG adaptor that said on the cover it is for:
Samsung i9100/i9220/ Motorola Droid etc

the picture of the cable is exactly similar to this

Now I'm on rooted stock version of GB 2.3.3 JPJV6 and I have installed the kernel of "USB Host mode driver for Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450298"
I am using OTG cable and the latest "USB Host Controller" app (Ver 0.44)
When the OTG cable is plugged in I am getting a message :
"root hub present, USB host mode is active" and I keep pressing on Refresh button but no matter what I am plugging in, I get nothing (can't detect the flash memory).
As far as I know this component does not need an extra power and it should work when plugged in into the OTG cable, and I know that the usb on my galaxy s can't give power to the thing that is connected unlike the galaxy S2.
What thing can I plug in, that don't need an external power source?
What else do I need to make the OTG cable work and read a flash memory or anything else?
Do I need a powered hub for everything or what please help !
Could any one help me
60 views and no one have the answer !
Because most people never use the host mode feature, myself included.

[Q] Using HDMI adapter and USB Hub at same time?

Hey guys, i was wondering if there is a way to connect our xz to tv trough hdmi and playing videos from hard drive at same time. I've got samsung hdmi adapter, wd elements hdd and xbox controller reciever. If I connect ac powered usb hub (with phone connected trough micro usb cable, my hdd and reciever plugged in) to hdmi adapter as power source, will this work? I know that usb hub has got power to feed 6 hdds
So please, every answer will be appreciated
Micro usb in USB hub, HDMI in power connector? HDMI will work only if you connect it directly to the phone. Can you draw what you mean?
EDIT: You can try on this way:

There will not be enough power, you need hub with ac adapter.

USB to Ethernet IC won't work if I pull out the ethernet cable

I know this is an off-topic, but I need some help on debugging the issue faced on USB to Ethernet design. Hope someone can help me! I have took reference form LAN9500Ai Development board().
Issue:- When Turn on the Power , USB to Ethernet work, and Three LED glow with one of them blinking. After that I removed the Ethernet cable and plug it back then it does not work. ( Sometimes All three LED light still glow even after removing the Ethernet Cable). My schematics is attached.
Schematics details:- D6,D7,D8 and D9 NOT mounted. R33 is Do not Mount Connector J2 comes form PC USB port ( PC USB 5V convert to 3.3V via regulator than 3.3V apply to connector j2) , See attached C2,C3,C4 and C5 Do not Mount.
Unsuccessful solution Tried 1. Mount C2,C3,C4 and C5 and No advantage 2. Remove R36 but no advantage
Successful solution Tried 1. Removed Connector J2 and reinsert then it Works, but again if i remove the Ethernet cord and reinsert it did not work. So every time after removing and reinserting cable i have to follow this
In Schematics IC U3 pin , (manual Reset) , i tried to reset the LAN 9500 chip using this pin , and Chip get reset and it works, but again if i remove the Ethernet cord and reinsert it did not work. So every time after removing and reinserting cable i have to follow this
Please suggest how to resolve this problem, since in hardware i do not have reset control in current PCB version,
