Should I wait for 6/128 version or just go with the 4/64 one? - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

From a technical standpoint, I don't think 2 gigs of extra RAM is gonna give the phone a 20% boost in performance, but is 64 gigs enough keeping in mind no expandable storage?
I'm coming from Redmi 2 Prime with 16gig internal, but I have a 32gig SD which is almost filled all the times.
So what do you say - should i wait for the 128gigs to come?
Also, for my Indian friends, can anybody guess the price of 128gigs? I'm thinking under 20k probably.

no need to guess the 6/128 model price, it's already listed for €283.78 at gearbest but I personally think there's no huge difference in performance as android 9 will use ~2,5GB RAM and pixel 3 XL will even come with 4GB, right? howevery finally it depends on usage, for playing games Mi A2 might not be a top deal, I read it's getting hot. for my daily usage - web, email, fotos! - the 4GB model is perfect.

I own the 6/128 model while my brother has the 4/64. As far as I can tell, it rarely makes a difference, such as when engaged in many apps (We've tried with Snapchat, Facebook, Whatsapp, Camera, and Google Photos. It was a minimal difference but I have to say that the extra storage with cloud functionality is awesome. I wonder if I can root this Android One model of the 6X.
It's not getting hot in my opinion, unless it's charging. It goes well beyond 50 degrees, which is kinda toasty. I have tested the thermal issue as such: Pokemon GO with max brightness and 4K-30FPS max brightness. The phone got a bit excited at start but in the end it managed to keep itself from overheating without reducing performance that much. As for the camera... I am a bit disappointed since I was expecting something a bit better than the A1 but it seems to be pretty much the exact same. I can do some sample photos of everything if anyone is really interested.

As it's been for a long time (computers, laptops, etc), the extra ram won't increase performance. It ** Will ** perform better if you open many many apps at the same time.
Do you do that? If it's necessary for you to, then wait. If not, then don't.
The extra storage is soooo subjective. I don't create or use huge files. If I did create huge video files (as an example), I'd use wifi and upload to some cloud storage, when possible. But, some people may be doing multiple vids in a short time and don't have the opportunity to upload... so for them it may be worth getting the 128.
It's not really a mystery, if you have ever run into storage limits (say with a 64), then get the 128. If you haven't before, you probably won't now.
I too wish the Mi A2 had an expansion slot, it would be nice. But is it a necessity? Not for me it's not. I could use it for years and never have it affect me.

If you can wait then get the 6/128. If you need the phone right now then buy the 4/64.
It all depends on what your requirements are.

Review on the 6gb variant! Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1

The performance is the same as the 4gb variant, very very slight bhenchmark performance margin difference.
So basically you are paying 2k extra only for more megapixel camera. Ram being only a cache storage to store apps temporary, it doesn't make a difference as 4gb is enough to run many apps multitasking lag free. I'm not a camera freak, I'm content with what camera the 4gb variant has to offer (waiting for a proper bug free Fota though).
Good that I didn't wait to buy the 6gb variant. I saved my money and time as well!
What u said is exactly right..
I also checked related threads about 6gb variant nothing's more except the front camera ....and better than Redmi Note 5 pro
Wait for few days for retail unit reviews. Ram does not make phone faster it just keeps more apps in memory.
mine got delivered today

Hey guys, I am planning to buy Zenfone Max Pro M1. But I am really confused between RN5 Pro and M1, solely because I find a lot of ROMS and customisation in the RN5P forums which looks really promising but at the same time, with a humoungous battery, dedicated SD card slot and 2 years of promised updates, this device seems like a treasure for its price. Could you guys or devs please help me with my decision as to which phone I should go with. I am a flashoholic, therefore i need a phone which is highly popular among devs and has many custom ROMS/Kernels.

Sounds like Redmi Note 5 Pro is for you, since base MIUI sucks and people usually just unlock bootloader and flash another ROM to it. I heard they did something in the recent update of MIUI so that you can't reroll back to the previous build, so flashing it the instant you got the phone is a good idea.

Antutu Test Results are different between 512GB and 128GB

Wow, that's a huge win for the 512, if true. Is that not a real-world performance type of difference, in your estimation? I'm really struggling with the decision of 128 vs. 512. I have a 256GB SD card and don't even have 50GB used up on my Note8 internal... So I'm thinking I should stick with the 128 and save the $250. Unless there's actually a performance difference, but I'm not sure 8GB can do much at this stage. I don't know!

In theory then the Snap 128 should beat the snap Exynos then? One thing I've learned in the past couple of years is benchmarks are essentially for bragging rights, there is no real world impact on an Antutu score from 250 to 300k. Not unless you are measuring apps opening in milliseconds and want to claim because your phone opened said app .00001 ms faster you win. I've never had any type of problems in real world use of the Note 8. I suspect it stays the same with the 9.

Should i switch to a Redmi Note 5 (Pro) 636? Any Alternatives?

Hi guys, i've been playing around with this Mi a2 for the last week, and so far i'm not satisfied at all with it. The lack of the jack, the poor battery life even with greenify (around 4h of screen) and the lack of an active community around it are some of the reasons why i'm considering to take advantage of the amazon return policy and get something else. Should i get a Note 5 Global 636 (Pro) or a MI A2 lite? Do you have any alternatives in mind around 200 euro?
Wait for either Redmi Note 6 Pro (battery) or Mi 8 Youth (almost same as Mi A2 w/o jack and sd card slot but good design with notch and MIUI)
I would go for the Note 5 Pro if you don't mind MIUI since it looks exactly like the A2, only a tad thicker because of the battery, but because of it, the camera bump doesn't protrude as much.
If you can't live with MIUI, then definitely go for the A2 Lite. Can't beat the value.
Do note that the 636 is notably more powerful, and has especially better DSP meaning that you can take photos faster on the 636, but at the end of the day, it all depends on how you use the phone and what works for you.

Not really. It just has a better GPU, but 636 is a lot better than the 625 found on A2 Lite.

Is the 8gb Ram on Note 9 fully usable by apps.

I have a note 9 512gb variant with 8gb ram. However when I go to apps in settings none of the apps report full 8gb ram. See the attached screenshot. Storage is reported correctly by apps but not ram.

I have a note 9 512gb variant with 8gb ram. However when I go to apps in settings none of the apps report full 8gb ram. See the attached screenshot. Storage is reported correctly by apps but not ram.View attachment 4614341

That's because all the running and cached apps take up an enormous chunk of the ram, I have the 6gb version and barely have 2gb available ram, shocking really, I am pretty disappointed, you should be even more so haha.
I even have over 100 apps disabled which did free up a bit, but not much.
I have a le eco le max 2 with 6gb ram with a custom pie rom on it, with almost 5gb free at all times.
I see no performance issues on the note 9 but it seems daft to advertise a phone with 6 gb of ram where barely 2 is ever available. Obviously any operating system and running/cached apps are going to take up some of that ram...but really over %60?

2GB of RAM are eaten up by "SWAP" on this phone.
I'm no expert on the subject or a developer, so, here's a thread that touches on the subject:

Verify it for yourself with the app RAM TRUTH:

Unless you're rooted, (AFAIK) there's nothing you can do to change how RAM is used.

But does it really matter day to day? I honestly don't notice any lag with my N9 (6GB). I wonder what kind of paces some of y'all are putting your N9 through that makes negative RAM performance actually noticeable. But I guess I'm not really that kind of user?

Same here, but, I'm glad I opted for the 8/512 version.
After experiencing 8G RAM on a few phones (BlackShark/OnePlus 5T/RazerPhone), I wasn't about to pass up the option, especially on a Samsung device, running a much heavier skin than vs the abovementioned. Out of all of those (Note9 included), I'd have to say the RazerPhone seemed smoother/faster, but not by very much.

remember the Android Mantra; "unused ram is wasted ram"..
forget about how much free ram is "available"; it means absolutely nothing on a modern Android Phone..

The RAM usage is different. Android works accordingly to what is available.
4GB, 6GB, 8GB.
It actually utilizes what is available. The more RAM you have the more it will use
Well... Running Bitdefender in the background and my phone is not even reaching 4GB.
Anyway more is better than less, I'm sure some future version of Android will take full advantage of that RAM
