RD Client not compatible with Note9 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi
It seems that the RD client app is no longer able to display remote computer like the S8 or S9 were.
I applied exactly the same settings (including Dex MAX) from my S8 Plus but it is not possible for me to match it to full screen. Actually the application widow is matching full screen but remote computer view is limited to a quater of the screen in the top left corner.
Anyone encountering the same issue
cheers

Just a work-around for now. If you don't require the functionality to launch apps directly through enterprise connections, there are 3rd party free apps on the market that are vanilla RDP capable. Maybe give one of those a shot? I believe the one I use occasionally is Remote RDP Lite: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.toremote.rdpdemo

Sure For now, submit a detailed bug report to the the RDP app developer (M$) directly. I'm sure they will come up with a fix relatively soon since it's a popular flagship device.

I have the same issue, closest I have found for a replacement is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devolutions.remotedesktopmanager
Application looks very promising and offers far more configuration vs. RD client but critically the bluetooth mouse is not supported for scroll / click and windows key also not supported

How did you report this bug pls? I would like to report the same.. RD client was my most used app and the best use case for DeX, right now I feel like Note9 is a downgrade vs. my Note8 experience because of this.
I have created a bug here, please vote if you have this issue https://social.technet.microsoft.co...rd-client-resolution-scaling-bug?forum=winRDc

In the meantime I have moved to VNC and have setup an Ubuntu 18.04 VM to try and remove dependence on Microsoft https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.realvnc.viewer.android - modified the app to be full screen using expert mode in DeX Max.
Only issue I have remaining is copy / paste is currently not working between phone and the VM

on the beta version of RDclient the developer responded "Thank you for your feedback. We are aware that the remote session can't span the entire screen of Chromebook and Samsung DeX for some specific resolutions. We will address this issue in our future release before WVD goes live."
I have installed the beta version so when it is hopefully fixed i will find out by noticing the update
It seems that the note 9 DeX mode handles the resolution differently to the Note 8 - I wish Samsung would not change and break things like this

while waiting for rd client to work correctly under DeX, I've been using :

2 bluetooth mice work but right click dont register as r click but as regular left click. plus you cant hold click and select multiple icons. in the dex itself all of this works.
its a shame because that app is really nice.

nit sure why but getting error on the link you provided. i did register an account though
edit
i tested the other app i posted a link to and it is a nice alternative.
it does have issues with multi select and stuff. it is also a bit costly but when i use my hp lapdock, the mouse does behave a bit better meaning on the integrated touch pad i can get the right click. an inherited issue with the lapdock is actualy left click and right click dont work. only single finger tap and 2 finger taps react as L click and R clicking.

Its not like reverse vnc, its like, uh, vnc.
This website has all the stuff you need to get a vnc server running on your phone:
http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc/
Note: If you just run the fbvncserver, you can get a vnc server in VIEW ONLY mode. To get full interactive VNC, you need to run a kernel with their patch applied -- do not try to boot off their patched kernel, it is for emulator only. If you want to use their kernel patch, you must checkout the source code -- it comes with the patch file. Apply it to the applicable kernel source and boot off that.
I was looking for the same thing for my EVO. I found an app in the Market called "droid VNC Server" by Jose Pereira that allows you to remotely control your Android phone from a PC wirelessly. I tried it over WiFi and it worked flawlessly for me!
Here's a link to it on Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.onaips.vnc&feature=search_result
(Edit: Sorry, didn't realize this thread was from 2009 until after I hit submit. It was the top Google result for my search for a solution.)

Anyway to do this or something like this without any internet what so ever? I have no internet and would like to connect phone via USB. Then see screen on computer be able to use Mouse for touch and keyboard to type. Is it possible? Everything I see fails to mention you need to connect to internet to use it either by having DSL cable or tethering for you WiFi data. No internet options for me.

Dev Request: HDMI Mirroring?

Since im not a dev, i dont have the chops to figure this out.... but I would definately donate to a dev that can figure this out.
Is hdmi mirroring possible?

ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=

changing the first line to true WORKS only at boot, it correctly mirrors what you see on your phone. but once the phone is done booting, it kicks the TV to a black screen and the phone asks you if you want to open up the entertainment app or do nothing.
So mirroring is there, its just blocked by something on boot.

Sorry, I just ordered my phone, so I don't have one to tinker with yet. But maybe you can use titanium backup to freeze the app. If it doesn't show up as an app, maybe you can use autostarts to try and stop it. Finally, the last idea I have is to poke around in the init scripts to find the offending app. All of this is just speculation, but since you can see mirroring at bootup I think it is pretty clear that the webtop app is causing the issue.
I can confirm this. It boots to the homescreens. I got to unlock and touch a widget. Then it disappeared, the box came up asking if I wanted to connect to the entertainment center.
I back through my apps with titanium backup and froze anything regarding hdmi. The entertainment box went away, but it still takes away hdmi mirroring.
I didn't have any results with autostarts either, but I don't really know what to look for.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Tried to freeze up some services with Titanium backup - no luck so far.
There is something happening during the boot process which disables the mirroring.
Tried this also. Same results.
I went into Titanium Backup and deleted the Entertainment Center application as well as a couple of other ones I thought might be the reason. But, it still switched off to a black screen after a few seconds.
Any updates on this?
I still don't have a phone yet, but I had another realization.
When you plug in the HDMI cord, the phone pops up with options regarding what to display. i.e. the webtop or the entertainment center. Ergo, something lower in the OS than the webtop is blocking the HDMI port.
However, my thought is, rather than block this, we need to figure out how to make another entry in this list. So the options read, webtop, entertainment, and mirroring.
Unfortunately this may require waiting for Moto to release the code. It will also require someone with coding skill. I for one have never worked with Android and have very poor experience with even Java.
This subject is being killed all over the forums in different threads. The hdmi is being toggled for different apps like webtop or media. The config is the other part that supports the hdmi app service options. We have dumped the apk into smalli and have confirmed this.
There is devs working on webtop without dock and it maybe beneficial to combine these efforts to support display mirroring... just a thought

You can run mobile view full screen once you launch webtop.... and alas, you have HDMI mirroring.

As of now the best solution is to do what leadguy68 suggested. I don't think any dev is working on it. It is just not worth it since what you want to accomplish can be done with just one additional mouse click after enabling webtop.
If I am wrong and any devs are still working on this, please ignore this thread, otherwise it is prudent to close this thread. Or maybe OP can state this in the first post so that people stop asking about HDMI mirroring.

I think it's dumb to end a thread because YOU aren't interested in something. I think it'd be a damn good idea to get mirroring running. The webtop mirror is laggy, and I want to play a real game of angry birds on a 100" screen, lol. Keep the work up, if anyone is working on it. I'll keep trying on my end to get it working.

exactly. mirroring is still highly sought after. Like another said earlier, for people who want to run emulators, you're sol with the webtop, theres no onscreen buttons AND you cant use your wii-mote while in webtop mode.
Agreed. Still very much needed for games. Web top game emulation is laggy.

[Q] Jellybean "computer" is very disapointing

I had the 'great idea' to hook a monitor, keyboard and mouse to my Atrix HD and use it as a PC (to save $70 month on internet) Problem is, it's HORRIBLE. It goes into some kind of 'Dock' mode, and you can only have 4 icons. Flash player doesn't work in Chrome or Browser, so you have to launch youtube videos in a new window. Plus, all these ****ing "mobile" websites that everyone loves suck, and I can't figure out how to change Chromes user-agent header.
I bought this cable: shop dot teamblackhat dot info Cables_c4.htm
Think I'm going to try and root it and get the wifi hotspot to work.
Does anyone know if there is a way to keep the 'Dock' mode from showing up? It's worse than just the normal phone (which wouldn't be bad)
Forget chrome bro, its oversimplified garbage. With stock browser you only have to set desktop mode once every time you open it, with chome its everytime you open a website + everytime you open the browser.
Also, chrome doesnt have plugin support, you need this flash, and it will work in default browser: Adobe_Flash_Player_11.1.115.17.apk
When the dock notification comes, you should chose charge only so it doesnt switch to clock mode. BTW JB is **** with hdmi, google messed it up.

if it support 720p, we would get a very small black band around the display (as if you plug any other hdmi capable device in the lapdock (like a blue-ray player))
there's something wrong like if they targeted the lapdock on purpose.

[APP] [ROOT REQUIRED] Chromecast mirroring (screencasting) works!

The Chromecast only allows certain devices to use it's new mirroring functions. The OPO is apparently not on that list. But, thanks to this handy app, the Chromecast will now recognize my OPO and allow for full mirroring!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
- Install the app and open it.
- Enable "Mirror Status:" and enable "QuickSettings Mirror:"
- Either open the chromecast app, and find mirroring in the left panel, or
- Pull down into your quick settings and see the icon for "cast screen"
There is a small bit of lag, which would mean some games that require split second timing would be hard to play on the big screen, but others work fine, like FIFA 14 for example. Any video site (that doesn't already support Chromecast) will work perfectly as well.
i try this but there is no audio out from my oneplus one only from youtube

I found a little write up that makes it a lot easier and more stable. First download root explorer go to system folder then build prop. Find
ro.product.device=A0001 and change A0001 to hammerhead and save changes. Now go to settings / display and under cast screen option your chrome cast will now appear then click on it. Now once WiFi on and you pull down quick settings you will see cast option appear.

That happened to me once when I was kind of away from the TV or when I thoroughly covered back of my phone. So I assume that would be because of weak Wi-Fi Direct connection between devices. Also, I noticed increase in delays and some jitter in video. So this surely seems like connectivity issue.
May be trying without a case or with WiFi antena area open/unblocked should reflect the improvement.

Oh yes - I would be very interested. I just have to wait for another 1-2 months until my car (A4) with AA/CarPlay support will be delivered.
Unfortunately I am not a developer but I'd be one of your first supporters and I will gladly test anything you guys develop .
Since Android Auto has a lot of limitations, an exposed module would be the best way to get rid of them.
Not a lot of replies. Looks like there are still not enough people who have Android Auto . We'll have to wait until it catches on I guess.
yes - I think so, too. But I am also still hoping, that manos78 will start the development anyway
Absolutely. For example here maps for Android Auto would be awesome
would also love to see some android auto mods
Me too !
Let me know if I can help by anyway
I'm interested.
I've got a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX on the way, so I'll be looking at doing some Xposed work, depending on what functionality is missing. Not everything can be done via Xposed (like making Waze work over AA), but it would be good to get an idea of what sort of additional functionality people are looking for on the AA platform.

Hey, it would be great to get rid of the limitation of only viewing few entries in a list when scrolling... I believe this is tracked via GPS, so it would be great to feedback a velocity of 0 to this process only.

Hi,
I only like to start a thread about the development of an Xposed module for tweak AA.
Someone is interested on it?

Is this in specific apps only, or all AA-enabled ones?

Yep I only know about spotify and gmusic as well. You just end up using your Phone in the Hand, there's really no point in this restriction

Is there an error message shown when you've hit this limitation? I've found "Unlimited browsing is disabled because car is not parked." in the AA apk, but I'm not sure if that's the proper verbiage when it's limiting listview scrolling.

Yes. If you've reached the tap limit you'll get a "you cannot continue browsing unless you're parked" message.

Im sure it that setting. They all seem to have this scrolling limit once you get past say...5 items or so.
I can post photo next time i am in my truck and have another phone to take the photo

I still have my NEX on my workbench, so I can test this out later tonight. I believe it's in the AA SDK, so that individual apps don't have to determine if the vehicle is in motion or not. Shouldn't be too hard to work around.
Here's a request:
Would like to manage what apps show up on Android Auto (headunit)
For example, sideloaded apps currently do not show up
