Best camera APP for OP3T with stock rom? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I'm on the latest stable Oxygen OS on my OP3T.
I wonder what is the best camera app or camera mod to install in order to have better quality pictures ?
I donwload the 2.8.11 camera app. Is there a better app ? Or maybe better drivers ?
What are your thought about ?
Thanks

I'm my opinion the best thing you can do is go and use ported Google Camera (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/modded-google-camera-hdr-60fps-video-t3658552). Right now I'm using Arnova8G2-V8.2 version with no issues.
When I first got my 3T I was pretty disappointed about the camera quality (specially in low light situations) but after installing the GC everything changed, the HDR+ is something amazing. However, keep in mind that for shooting videos and manual control on photos the Oneplus camera app is the way to go.
I recommend you go and install the Google Camera from the link above and do some testing and compare the results with the OP camera you will see what's best for your use.
Good luck!

Camera FV-5 has always been my go-to in photography. Great UI, very configurable, and takes good pictures.
I've never tried any of those apps you mentioned other than ZR's camera (since it's stock), but know this: the smaller sized application it is, the less bloat, promo nonsense, and ad-junks you see on screen. Many Camera apps you see (including the ones you listed) on the Play Store are filled with junk, so go for something light (Open Camera is less than 1 MB!).
The stock app is OK, but it too is filled with bloat. The quality of the picture could be a lot better.
Camera FV-5 is a paid app, so unless you plan on shedding money for a good camera app, go for Open Camera (free version of FV-5 is useless). Open Camera's UI is ugly, but it takes good photos.

I'm in love with the Pexo Cam
I've tried Ciberian in the past but it almost made no difference.
Now-adays I installed PexoCam v8.5 and it's perfect!
Totally recommended by me

Only you can decide whether you prefer one or the other, so try them all out. You shouldn't expect someone else to decide for you; there are just too many variables in regards of how someone typically uses their camera...

google HDR+ on mi mix

In theory it should work on this device, right? I'm not sure if I installed it right but it doesn't seem to work yet for me. It's still in beta so that could change. This is the article for those that haven't seen it yet, https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported/
I'm stoked because my current Rom doesn't have hdr
Doesn't work here on lastest stable 8.2.5.0 build under android 6...
Snap camera give me good result anyway !!
I just tried it with the latest RRemix and it works like a charm. Really impressed with the detail it gets out. I hated the pictures made with the normal Google camera, especially since I was traveling these days and it's either an overexposed sky, or underexposed building that were on the picture. Now I can have the best of both worlds.
Then require Nougat ROM version !!
Thx for report

Hi. Can you post some pics? Maybe comparing to default and snap camera if possible. Thanks!
Sure thing, here is an album for you of some quick pictures I took. The difference is quite big and you can see it immediately.

Thanks! Nice improvement. The camera is the only thing keeping me from making the Mi Mix my dd. That may change soon once I check it out. Anymore pics comparing to say, snap camera ap would be great. Thanks again!

Sure mate, here are more pictures. This time with Snap Camera samples too.

Since I don't use the Snap Camera all too much, this is a huge improvement in picture quality. Especially how it gets the harsh lighting and sky to be correct.

Based off those samples it seems like Snap strikes a good middle ground. I used FV-5 and Open Camera and low light pictures would always be even darker than they appeared. I tried the modded Google Camera with HDR+ and while it does take better photos in darker surroundings it almost goes a bit too far.
Sure, but I'm not into changing apps and whatnot and setting up manual modes to get the most of my shots. With this, I get a good picture. And all I had to do was point and shoot. Good enough for me. Now I'm actually compelled to take more pictures, since it takes good pictures now.
So this doesn't work with the original ROM? Mine crashes straight away.

Doesn't work on the latest EPIC (7.7.20 MIUI) either. I assume it doesn't work because MIUI 8/9 is still based on Android 7.0 and this app was extracted from 7.1.2 (the app is a mod of Camera version 4.4.012 which requires 7.1+).
Hey Guys,
I wondering if I am missing the trick to this... I am running LOS so camera API2 enabled via HAL3 enabled = 1
But when I try to install the apk, I get the error:
App not Installed
The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name.
Any ideas? I really want to try this!
Install apk, enable camera API2, reboot.
Work on latest Epic ROM.
Not working on stock chinese MIUI 8.5.3.0(MAHCNED)....application crashes

Based on photos it's very clear that Google hdr+ captures a lot of detail from the sky, and that's what I missed a lot on standart camera app...
Thanks for sharing!

I'm running latest epic everything is fine and nice with Google photo app but the main camera app Force to close when I try to take a photo, it does however take videos normally. Do you know any workaround?
EDITED
Nevermind, clearing cache and data solves the issue !
MAN, finally we got a great HDR!!!
I'm very happy, this HDR IS AWESOME
I've been using the modded Google camera for a couple of days now on RR 5.8.4. I like it a lot! I can hardly believe that the photos, especially with HDR+ on (instead of HDR+ auto) were from my Mix.
Mostly everything works. Panorama, Photo Sphere, Lens Blur all work. I did find a couple of issues, though. The worst one is that the video camera, both in normal and slow motion mode, crashes probably 9 times out of 10. It seems to work, but after the filming is over the app crashes when the video is saved. There is a file saved that is unreadable. This is the only issue that prevents me from making this app my default camera.
A minor issue, that's probably fixable with a build.prop change, is the selfie cam takes upside down photos.

Asus pixelmaster camera

Hi
It seems my phone phone converted to ww by seller
The firmware is so clean and i like it but i don't see any sign of ota update or Asus apps new versions in play store
I really don't care about Android updates the only thing i want is new version of Asus pixelmaster camera how can i get the latest?
Thanks
You can get the latest update here https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/rom-update-wwzs660kl16-0622-1907-33-t3968495
it updates the camera to 6.2.6
That said, the camera software is horrible and you shouldn't use it anyways.

I've actually been pretty impressed with the camera coming from a pixel 3A. It takes pictures instantly just like the pixel. Why do you think Asus camera sticks? Is there some better camera app you'd recommend?

Sure, it is fast, but the quality is horrid.
Gcam provides SIGNIFICANTLY better results.
Here's a couple comparisons between gcam and asus software
Yes you are right but pixelmaster has a pro mode that let you to keep shutter open up to 32 sec
And also pro mode keep all setting that you changed in memory
Btw i don't want to go all through flash thing besides the firmware is working pretty stable and nice except camera if there is an apk that i can install directly i will be nice

Stock image processing is extremely bad
My old mate 10 gaves me way better low light images
Asus pixelmaster is sharper to my eyes gcam only has some extra software processing that's why night mode looks better in gcam
Besides I've never seen a pro mode in another apps like Asus pixelmaster we have full control like a DSLR camera it has even iso 25 actually we can take a photo of sky with this app

Must be my eyes but the ROG low light pics look better since it brightens (allows more light by staying open longer?) the picture which is what I want when taken pics in the dark.
Huawei Mate 20X with auto macro mode on
ROG2 under photo mode
I still couldn't find any higher version of pixelmaster than myself , if anyone can send an apk app of latest version it would be nice i don't want to touch my phone root or flash because it just works fine and fast
Thanks

Question GCam / MIUI Camera / LEICA camera - which one is the best for VIDEO?

Hi everybody,
I see several threads which are dealing with the best camera or best camera settings for PHOTOGRAPHY.
But I haven't found any that is dealing with VIDEO.
As I am more into taking videos I would like to know which app (and settings) you recommend and why.
Thanks!

I'll stay with MIUI camera for video recording (default settings). Most of 3rd party cameras are only optimized for photography. But yeah, instead of judging which one is better you can test it one by one by yourself.

I have tested a couple of GCam versions and the Leica-Camera and think that none of those was good.
As I am on an AOSP ROM I could not install MIUI camera.
Probably MIUI camera is the best one for video recording but I do not know.
And probably there are some GCam mods which are even better.
Could you please explain why you prefer MIUI camera. Is it the sharpness, expore, noise reduction, or any other parameter?

I'm not really expert with photo/videography, but i'm just looking the video results with the default settings of 3rd party cameras compared to the MIUI camera. The results were MIUI camera have better video stabilization compared to the 3rd party cameras.
