VZW Note 8 - Speaker Phone Issues - background noise \ cases \ etc. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

For almost a year I have struggled to understand the way the speakerphone works.
It took a long time before I found out that on speakerphone, the TOP Microphone is what picks up your voice while the BOTTOM switches to the noise-cancelling (it is by the speaker) microphone and that helped me a LOT.
My wife and I have experimented with the speakerphone a lot.
Issue we have: Sometimes the SPIGEN Tough Armor and the Spigen Liquid Air Armor cases seem to affect the microphone quality. She cannot hear me as good (and I cannot hear her as good) as when the case is off. This is not ALWAYS the case, which drives us insane. I can't figure out the issue. Spigen replaced my first Liquid Air Armor case for free but it made no difference, so I figure it is not a case issue.
Observation last night: On my Verizon Note8, I have an extra option in my top-right menu on speakerphone called "TURN ON EXTRA VOLUME".
When I select the TURN ON EXTRA VOLUME feature, my wife noticed a difference in quality. I tested it several times with her, changing at a point in a sentence, and it was obvious to her which was which after a moment.
Is there any reason speakerphone quality seems to vary so wildly?
The best way to get perfect speakerphone quality is to remove my case and set it on a flat table, the top of the phone pointed toward my face.
Thanks.

[Q] Sound Muffled Unless on Speakerphone/Bluetooth

I have seen a few threads with similar issues, but no "resolution"
I have a T-Mo HTC ONE on official 4.3
Lately I have been having a slew of complaints about being muffled/ can't understand me
I have also noticed google now be hopelessly incorrect and not hearing certain words etc
Called my self through VOIP with headphones on to do investigating
With normal calls I am VERY muffled, I can make it significantly better talking directly into the bottom mic with my finger over the back mic
Even then I sound like I have cotton in my mouth
Turn on speakerphone, instantly 1000 times better, bluetooth as well.
I have read several complaints of similar issues, some pointing to the over active noise canceling
But this is just unusable at this point
I am not 100% when it happened but It was most certainly not always like that.
Some people will say after a seconds on the call it gets better but not always.
Any ideas? I am really pulling my hair out at this point
Already factory reset.
Edit:
I would like to add I am left handed and hold my phone as such,
after doing some more testing I found holding the phone right handed makes
a notable improvement SOMETIMES, it seems the positioning of the mics is very bad for left handed holds
either way though the issue is very annoying.
I found when holding right handed being silent for a few seconds and then talking i would come through clear at first
almost like it was able to make the correct sound profile.
Guess everyone gave up on this?

[Q] How to fix microphone static/white noise?

My M7 records only white noise from the microphone. This happens during calls and also using any app which records using the microphone. I've tried cleaning it and also block one, or the other, or both, but white noise is still recorded. I've tried a couple of roms, including the stock RUU and am now using the most recent insertcoin, but the problem remains.
I received the phone recently and didn't check the microphone before flashing/rooting using HTC dev, but have no reason to beleive that this issue was present then (the seller did not mention it)
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
The HTC M7 design makes your finger block the microphone
I have had this microphone problem intermittently too. When it failed for 2 or 3 calls in a row I experimented with voice recordings and noticed that while my voice was absent, there was some scratching sound and I clearly heard my breathing for just a moment in the last second of one recording.
That was when I noticed I had been holding the phone in my left hand and resting my pinky right on the microphone hole. Because of the edge to edge touchscreen it has to be held with fingertips, can't wrap your fingers around it. It's a slippery phone, so you can't easily hold it with fingertips just from the sides. The main mic is on the bottom on this phone near the right corner, exactly where my left pinky holds it up.
So I made a bunch of recordings paying attention to my fingers and it has worked fine every time. I'll bet few people who hold the phone with their right hand have any trouble.

On a side note, what do you think of beats audio? I feel it terribly sucks.

I personally don't have any beats devices, so beats audio has to stay off. It intentionally distorts the sound to complement the response characteristics of beats headphones, similar to Dolby and dbx. But beatsaudio labeling is so prominent on the HTC One, I wonder who paid whom?

Turning it off completely distorts the audio quality to the point where the mids are gone.

Earpiece not working after Battery Replacement, any ideas?

I replaced the battery in my wife's phone and immediately afterwards I hear no audio from the earpiece. When I plugin headphones I can hear audio fine from the headphones, youtube pauses when I remove the headphones which indicates it does know that the headphones aren't plugged in and should be sending audio to the earpiece. Does anybody have any idea what connections might be the issue? I have taken the thing apart 4 times trying to find what connector might be misaligned with no luck thus far and really don't want to have to get another phone.
Same exact problem here...
Hi there archangelus2,
Have you ever found a fix to the problem? I also noticed that my loud speaker is now not as loud as it used to be... and by trial and error, I found out that squeezing the top right corner (looking at the screen) it gets a bit louder so I guess that some of the contacts aren't touching well or some other odd crap is going on. The phone is easy enough to open and take apart (if you know what you're doing and are very careful and gentle), but I did notice that given the complains that have been posted post-repair, it does not seem to be too reliable when putting it all back together. The earpiece going completely mute is complete nonsense for instance as there isn't all that much that could go "wrong" in those contacts and I wonder if something gets messed up at the software level after a replacement of hardware like the battery, is performed.
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! and stay

Is there anyway that you accidentally messed with the earpiece? There is a small rubber protector inside the phone on top of the earpiece, I suggest you check to make sure this is positioned properly on the speaker.
Best of luck,
Matt
Yes, I just got my earpiece fixed. I had a 16 GB AT&T model who's sound was terrific. Then i got greedy and went for a 32 GB latin american model (some telecom I forgot the name of) its earpiece sound was extremely low. I ordered 2 earpieces from ali express just in case they were to be changed. Yesterday I took it to a shop and the guy fixed the original earpiece by applying some tape around the earpiece to focus the sound out of one way and now its as good as new. $10 and am happy.
So yeah probably in your case I'd say he kinda misplaced the earpiece. You may get it checked.

Noisy Vibration Fix? Replace? Any Solutions?

I have an XT1053 Dev Edition and it has a very noisy vibrate function. I've read that this is common on these phones, but I haven't found any solutions yet. I just had my phone apart when replacing the rear facing camera and the battery cover (success on the camera fix!), and I had a chance to check out the vibrator motor. The shaft of the motor has a lot of vertical play, enough that I could move it in and out with my screw driver, and it would make a click sound as it hit a stop on either end of the motion. There didn't seem to be any side-to-side play so I don't think the motor is going bad. I believe it's just this vertical play that causes all the noise. This is really annoying because my friends cheapo LG has a nice quiet, rubbery feeling vibrate, where my Moto X sounds like a kids noisemaker out of a 25 cent gumball machine.
Has anyone found a solution for this? I've tweaked the vibrate intensity for certain functions, which helps for tactile feedback. But it still sounds bad, and on silent I can't turn the vibrate intensity down or else I won't feel it. I'd go as far as replacing the vibrate motor if it would silence the rattle. Although I haven't seen anywhere at all to even think about purchasing a new vibrate motor. I though maybe a dab of silicone where the shaft enters the housing? Also, did these phones do this out of the box when brand new? I got mine second hand so I don't know how loud/quiet it's supposed to be.
I havt a moto xt1050, sure their not to off from the branch, like tours mine in used, but the vibrate is nice smooth an isn't loud, on the other hand it rumbles the entire phone. Replacing could fix it, but would probably require a heat gun an some skills . I personally would examine the motor at play(watch it work an locate problem. An is the weight head moving in an out of the motor(horizontally) or up an down(vertically)? The latter would be a cause of this issue. The horizontal play is perfectly normal for a electric motor, they require some play there other wise the motor would seize an stick eventually (a lot quicker then with the play)
I'm suspecting the mounts for the motor is loose
#1; Check an see if the motor has vertical play on the board.
Can it move up an down? Should be a solid feeling, no play in either direction.
#2; Check to make sure its not something obstructing the motors weight head, or anything to close, ex.. If the cover case is to close an it rubs, it will cause a loud tick/knocking noise while it vibrates.
If none of the above helps, give me a detailed description of the noise, an possibably some pics of the motor maybe....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Free mobile app on CyanogenMod 11 nightly..
Please my moto x is not turning on but it keeps vibrating

I started having the speaker pop issue start recently. It's any time after something uses the speakers. Like you can hear the amp shutting off. I've had the phone since Monday and mostly keep it on mute so maybe I just haven't noticed it before. But this weekend I've been playing more with the ringtones, notification, etc. It's kind of irritating now.

I too have the crackling sound when pressing on the lower third of the back of the phone. Not sure what about the sound 5 seconds after typing but I have noticed that some times the sound is quiet from time to time seems random to me. I also have an issue where after the phone has been quiet for a while the tap sound from a navigation button is way over driven and very loud. That to seems to happen randomly.

After watching the tear down video what I believe your hearing is the glass back making contact with the plastic that covers the wireless charging part and then separating from it when you relieve the pressure. I'm betting the rubbery plastic covering the wireless charging pad is slightly tacky.
I'm experiencing this since you asked, probably wouldn't be if you didn't lol
Also have popping noise since the Razer update randomly and when I use the touchpad, it's annoying, I think the problem is software, and hopefully will get fixed soon, as for the enjoy l empty water bottle sure when squeezing the lower third of the phone, I think it's an adhesive thing like notasaurus says

I doubt its the wireless charging part. Even when pressing down where the logo is, I still hear the crackling sound.
I also have the same issues
Just wanted to add a vote to the crinkling when squeezing the phone and the speakers popping. No other issues with the phone so far. (For me personally, the crinkling when squeezing the phone isn't an issue.)
I'm not sure if this helps (I don't own the device) but I remember reading somewhere another user faced the same speaker sound popping issue, and what they did was go to Settings > Sound and turned off. . . one of the "Other Sounds" sounds. I can't recall which one but try turning off all - Dial pad tones, screen locking sounds, charging sounds, touch sounds and touch vibration(?) ... see if that helps? One of them was supposed to fix it.
Again, I don't own the device, I just remember reading this somewhere, some other user faced this issue.
Lockbutton doesn't feel right
I have a weird feeling with the lock button, it's not feeling like a button. Could it be that it's stuck inside? Just unboxed it... Can't really press it - only tap it. I have the Razer Phone V1 which has a defined click, but the V2 feels more like those home buttons from iPhones with the taptic engine instead of a real button but without a tap feeling. Is that normal? Otherwise I will make a refund on Amazon and get a cheaper one from the Razer store...

From your description, it sounds like you received a defective phone or something.
Haven't used the Razer V1 phone, but have used 2 different Razer Phone 2s and both have physical clicks. In addition to the feel, there's an audible click also (coming from the button itself--not artificial). I will say that because the button sits flush with the phone, it feels "different" than other phones I've had because tbe frame of the phone protects the button. But it should physically depress.
Regarding the clicking speaker sounds you have been describing, your feedback is welcome! Please join and contribute to the XDA thread Snap sound coming from speakers.

Ok, talked to the support yesterday and they say that it's a defect. And that they will send me a new one.
Oh man, Razer definitely has to improve their quality check procedures. I have now my 3rd Razer Phone V1 (one with defect speakers and one with a digitizer malfunction) and now my 2nd Razer Phone V2 after that problem with the lock button.
Never had problems like that with my Nexus 5X or my Moto G... And those were a lot cheaper.
