Dev's Requested - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Hi, does any Android developer own a Nokia 8, to start porting ROMs and developing suchs to it?
I believe we as a community can also provide founds for him/her/them if they need. Not much, but something.
I hope we can attract some devs for our terminal to rise !!! Lol

I already have some experience with creating custom ROMs and would like to make a LineageOS ROM for the Nokia 8 Only the problem is that I do not have a Nokia 8 to start with

I think the Nokia 8 will continue to struggle and attract Devs because of the lack of bootloader unlock.
Until the device can easily be unlocked any roms that are developed will only be useful to the small amount of users who have managed to get thier bootloader unlocked.
Until then, rather spending our time and effort attracting rom developers, we would be better off using that time and effort coordinating all the Nokia 8 users to apply pressure to HMD to provide an official bootloader unlock method.

An official version of TWRP has recently become available for our Nokia 8 and it is now time for a custom ROM. As a developer, I would like to bring the first ROM to the Nokia 8. I want to start with LineageOS and after with Resurrection Remix OS. How much I want to make these custom ROMs for you, just do not have Nokia 8 at my disposal. So that's my problem.

How about bootloader? Are you going to unlock it?

Sure, I have some ideas to unlock the bootloader, I wanted to see if we can use the same way how the bootloader of the Verizon Pixel 2 XL is unlocked.

Excellent. Looking forward to it
On en.miui.com it is said that bootloader can be unlocked at request like in latest miui versions of other models. For me this choice makes perfect sense: if you are good enough you can unlock it, otherwise they don't encourage it

"If you are good enough..." - What does that mean ? As is in if you are a tech head or ?
EDIT:
Until someone actually uses it and proves it does it job, ideally Xiaomi themselves. Don't trust it.

It will be locked - http://en.miui.com/thread-231030-1-1.html
and receiving unlock code from xiaomi will take months if you are just a normal member of miui forum. Even after that, it is possible you are stuck by some weird errors .. just take a look at redmi note / 4c forum.
Thought to but MI 5 on first day.. but not anymore.. have to search for other alternative.

Wich errors? Can you briefly describe them?
Will it be possible to flash the rooted global version on locked bl? That's all I ask at least for months
"Will it be possible to flash the rooted global version on locked bl? That's all I ask at least for months" I'd really like to know that as well
You need an unlocked bootloader to flash roms
As long as xiaomi dosent make unlocking bootloader complicated ...I am ok with it ...but if we have to get codes ,permission etc for xiaomi it will be a hassle ...
either way this beast has to be unchained ...sooner than later I hope

Why lock it in the first place.... its not like they loose money by making it easy?

Because if the bootloader was unlocked by default, people could hack into your phone or access it's data by bypassing the code on the lock screen

not like a locked bootlocker is synonymous with encryption, nor that it makes a phone unhackable. so if that is really their argument, i call bull****!
I dont get this locking at all, be it xiaomi, samsung or whoever. If I buy a smartphone, I want to own it, having full control over both hard- and software. Anything less is unacceptable to me.
If I buy a computer or laptop, I can always install another OS on there and am not forced to use the software that came with it. Why can't smartphones be the same?

Well see that is the thing. There are not opensource bootloaders for Android that could completely replace the bootloader on the device. If you did remove all the OEM software on a device you would have to load even the base bootloader by a jtag device before you would even flash an OS to the device. The bootloader is under the TOS you agreed to when you bought the phone. The hardware you own. The software you buy a license to use. You dont own it.
As for why they do it. One guy got an email reply when he asked and it is simple. They didnt like people removing their services (which is how they make money) So they locked the bootloader so you could only flash MIUI roms with their inbuilt services. Anything else they say is just more BS to come from them.
Also for your PC comment. That has recently changed. The windows 10 32 bit computers come with a locked bootload as well, you have to go through a TON of bs to get it unlocked.

Why? They've been out over a year right? If anything that pattern is indicative of a pretty long wait for mi5 sources.

I'm guessing they were released in full on that day, instead of being partially released.

Mi3 was launched in late 2013. I bought it on like September 2014. No custom ROMs were available. Some months later Ivan (he is not official Dev). But his work is closest to official ones. So hopefully he may release AOSP ROM from official sources (he doesn't share them).
About Mi3 kernel sources, they were delaying it. And it was said that once Mi4 will launch they will release. After launch more delays. And finally after months passed of Mi4 launch they released the kernel source. (it may not have all the modules)
But for Mi Note, it's relatively quick.
Similarly it may take few months.

I'm guessing Ivan will make AOSP rom (based on Marshmallow) for Mi 5 like he has done previously. Should be good

Questions before buying...

Hi guys, I have a few questions before buying a Moto X4 (xt1900-01):
1- Can we unlocking bootloader?
2- Can we use Magisk with modules?
3 - Can we use twrp for flashing, backup and restore?
I have knowledge about unlocking bootloader, root, flashing with commands, etc. Now I have a Moto G5 Plus with rom AospExtended and Magisk with several modules and substratum themes. I would like to know if I will be able to modify something my new Moto X4.
Thanks!
I would like to know as well...the x4 seems abandoned on here. Which sucks because it has all the good specs!
I have a moto x4. You can unlock the bootloader with the fastboot unlock command. You can also flash twrp recovery, but right now there isn't really any custom roms you can flash it with. This forum has the recovery images:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/dev-testing-t3707432
I haven't tried magisk on the moto x4, but you can install it and use it. This forum has more information on it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/root-moto-x4-t3696180
The main reason why there isn't much development for this device is because Motorola has only recently released the source code for the moto x4 on android Oreo. Hopefully we will have more roms for this device in the next few months
It would be better to buy this phone in a few months if you are using it for hacking and development purposes. It should be a little more cheaper then, and there should be more development.

Can you point to a device that has really decent Custom Rom support?
It has to be cheap, not over $450+++ expensive ones.
The only thing I can think of is Xiaomi Mi A1 and Mi 6.

The Android One version of the HTC U11 Life is treble-compliant, so in theory it could support any treble ROM. I don't know if anyone has actually tried it though. It has the same QC 630 SOC as the x4.

Custom Rom

Does anyone know if custom roms are planned for the p20 pro in the near future?

if huawei stop the bootloader unlock program, no custom roms will come over to the p20p.
LOS is the only one until now, but without stock cam, what I've heard.

THey did not stop, you just have to write to support and ask for it. Worked for me and for many others
Write down:
Model : CLT-L29
Nr seryjny: xxxxx
ID prod: xxxx
IMEI: xxxx
Official they stop after 60 days with bootloader unlock codes.
if it stays that way, the custom scene will take even more distance from Huawei or EMUI.
I think it's quite likely they'll change their minds about bootloader unlocking. It's generating a lot of negative publicity at a time when they don't need it - withdrawal from US market.
As far as more non-Treble based custom ROMs coming ... the kernel source isn't out yet, which helps. Huawei usually take 4-8 weeks to release it. It's now been about 6 weeks. So hopefully it'll be out in the next couple of weeks ... unless they've decided to stop supplying source code as well as unlock codes.
Is it possible to flash a treble enabled GSI ROM when you have a locked bootloader?

No Custom Rom for Mi 8 SE ?

Why isn't there any custom rom development for the Mi 8 SE? I really wanted to buy this phone for the amazing design & hardware in this price but don't like MIUI that much
So, is there any possibility of rom development for this phone in future?

I believe is should be ''yes" rom based on AOSP or LineageOS..etc
you mean that so? someone will make that thing for it. cuz source kernel for it is ready and released, many user xda or miui 4rum using this device.
But, one very important thing "Trebel running as well on almost devices and mi8se is also supported by this project and using some rom in the project treble, running quite stable and less bugs''.
So many one users mi8se here, there are a lot of reasons to believe this. it will comming soon , just patience to waiting.

Has anyone installed Redmi 9 Lancelot Official Lineage OS rom on redmi 9 lava

right now i have redmi 9 lava (3/32) and seeing the new redmi 9 lancelot official rom i wonder if it will work on my phone without problems. Has anyone tried it?
I have the 4Gb RAM version and LOS 20 works fine although its using up to 2.8Gb RAM. Personally I wouldn't run Android 13 aka LOS 20 on a 3Gb RAM phone. I actually wish I got the 6Gb RAM version.

I currently have the pixel experience rom installed and it definitely runs much better than stock. You didn't encounter any problem with the installation, did you? Also if you have any problem I would like to hear it. Thank you very much my friend for the reply!
In addition, updates are done normally?
Yes there is weekly OTA updates. Also yes LOS 20 runs much better than stock, faster and uses less ram, on stock miui 13 Android 12 I couldn't even run two apps at the same time such as Outlook and Chrome. As for installation you need MIUI 13 Android 12, the latest stock rom, otherwise LOS 20 won't work, I believe it will bootloop. I just followed the instructions on LOS website, didn't have any problem.
Also I used the default LOS recovery instead of TWRP as TWRP isn't updated anymore and I wasn't sure if it will work. You need to unlock bootloader using Xiaomi app or a script from here Xda if you don't want to wait several days for the Xiaomi app unlock as there is a waiting timer, idk why Xiaomi did this.
you have me completely covered. I have done this process many times and know what to do, thanks for the advice anyway. You sure have the "lava" version right? Because you mentioned above that you wanted to buy the version with the 6gb ram which is only available in the Lancelot version and I would like to be sure

With a little research I had done, I believed that the LOS rom was not exactly designed for my phone but for another version (there are roms that say it's for the lava version and roms that say it's for the Lancelot version).
