Moving from Mate 10 Pro to Note 9 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

here I am boys. i`m leaving Huawei for my first Samsung phone : Note 9 . Anyone did this already ? Can you tell the difference ?
i`ve preordered a black 128 Gb model for the price of 630 euros. i got a gift as well from orange : the samsung dex doc station, the samsung wireless charger DUO and a samsung power bank. They say these are worth 300 euros. i said its worth the money.
Main reason I`m leaving Huawei its because its software: its so damn lame. A few months ago i`ve noticed that it started lagging while switching between apps, freezing for like half a second , a bug where if i was changing between apps too fast, sometimes it would take a screenshot, and even if i gently touch the screen, it would recognize the touch as knuckle gesture , even if they were deactivated from the software. But, while keeping 20-30 apps open in background, having 3.5 out of 6 gbs of ram free, the phone freezes, stutters and lags so much it sucks badly. that AI saying it optimeze the phone based on your usage is a big fcking lie. Period. Plus, the bluetooth is terrible. i got a pair of bluetooth sennheiser headphones and the connection between them is low. I`ve tried them on a OnePlus 5 for a day and they work like a charm together. Also, i have a portable Sony Speaker which supports LDAC, but my Mate cant handle the connection, even if the phone is near the speaker at 5 cm and I have to switch it back to normal codec. Also, 1 month ago bought the gear S3 frontier, and sometimes the watch vibrates and shows the disconnect sign, but when i unlock the phone, it reconnects back ( this happens 1-2 times a day )
The good part of the Mate was the battery : on my usage, I always got at least 24 hours of battery , mostly 28h . I really loved it. Also, the super charge was awesome and fast.
Now i`m afraid that the 4k battery won`t handle that huge and powerful screen. What about the software ? what about bluetooth connection ?
Can i get some opinions , please, from the guys who did this move ? I am really eager to know this.
i`ll keep my mate 10 pro for another 2-3 weeks in case I don`t like the note , so i`m safe I suppose.
Thanks a lot.

Battery life as mp3 player?

Hi All.... Bad day for me today - to cut a long story short, I drove over my beloved Archos AV560 media player, and naturally it has ceased to be. I used to listen to it several hours a day, but now I'm using a borrowed Ipod Nano. I read in another forum that the Kaiser dosent sound a lot different to the nano, so I thought about using the Kaiser as an mp3 player. At the moment I've got a Vario II (Tytn), and am due an ungrade in February.
Basically I'd like some feedback on battery life as an mp3 player, with screen off/on, with phone/3G off etc.
Thanks all.
Tim
I don't have battery statistics, but here are two relevant threads.
Audio playback - as good as Ipod?
Tilt: Music Playback Audio Problem (Glitch 'skip' heard every 3-4 minutes)
IMO, at the moment, the Kaiser is a poor choice for multimedia playback. It will have less battery life than an iPod/regular DAP because it doesn't have hardware acceleration.
With bluetooth headphones, my Kaiser skips like crazy (2-3 times a minute).
To use regular headphones, you need a 3rd part adapter. The D/A converter is much worse than the one in the iPod. Battery life will will be relatively bad (less than 8 hours continuous music, I would guess). Not to mention the fact that the largest MicroSD card you can buy is 8GB, for $120. For a couple of bucks more, you can get a 30GB iPod Classic or 8GB iPod Nano.
In my experience,
Under these specs,
-System Volume set at half
-Audio player set at 15%(Still pretty loud IMO)
Screen off battery:
(fell asleep for 4 hours with it on)
After 4 hours of continuous usage battery drops to around 30-35%
Occasional screen on/off (checking mail, time, etc) battery:
For about 3 hours, dropped down to 40-45%
Screen on Battery:
Phone sometimes gets pretty warm, but battery drops pretty fast. I left it on for IM with continuous usage. After 1 to 1 1/2 hours, it dropped to 60-65%
Hope these give u a rough idea on the battery life!
I really dont know why so many kaiser people are having problems. I use a couple different BT stereo headsets (rockr s9s and logitech ones also) and have never had any skipping problems. Infact I can set my phone down and walk 30 feet away without any drops or skips.
I have an ipod also thats been sitting in my desk drawer for months unused. I use Core player on my tilt and once you adjust the equalizer in it, the sound is very good. I have zero problems with battery life. I listen most the time for 5 to 7 hours straight at work and still have 40-50% of the battery left. I charge my phone nightly so it doesnt matter much to me.
I have my phone on, 3g on and the screen off. I hate having a pocket full of gadgets, that was my main reason behind the tilt purchase. So far I have no problems letting my ipod collect dust in the drawer and its probaly never going to be used again.
So an Ipod has more storage, I cant even listen to all of my 4 gig microsd card in 3 days at work. If I want more songs, its a matter of minutes to reload it. I also have a set of portable bluetooth speakers (nokias). Another thing an ipod cant do.
The logitech mp3 bluetooth stereo headsets were pulled off the market awhile back because the headband would crack/break. You can scoop a new set up for 29 bucks on some deal sites even today. they are one of the sweetest sounding headsets for that price. A couple mods to the headband and they good forever.
Go ahead and get the phone, you wont reget it even as a mp3 player.
I listen via BT (Sony DS HBH970), using PocketPlayer 3.5, audio files stored on a 4 gb microSD.
- After 3/4 hours I still have between 50 and 60% battery life.
- On PP, my settings are to turn off the screen at 1 minute.
- I do not have 3G in my area, and I do not keep Data on at all.
I do have an occasional skip, and I can't walk too far away from my phone before it cuts out.
Thanks for all your info guys. I've just ordered the USB to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my Sony headphones, and see how it all works out. It's gotta be worth a try!!

Well I guess it's time I try this .... but that leads me to another question: can I have your iPod?
Doubt he'll send u the ipod, but I can send you the most compact 60 gigabyte Archos AV560 media player you'll ever see. Just a mere 6mm thick. It's fully funtional apart from the fact it won't turn on....

This echoes my experience, as well. Using coreplayer, with equalizer, it sounds great. Turn the screen off while listening and it will run a very long time. I listened to mine on a 3 hour flight this week and the battery dropped by 20% during that time. Not TO 20%, dropped by 20%. (From 98% to 78%).
I used to take my Dell Axim, A bluetooth GPS, my Ipod Nano, and my cellphone on every trip. Now, I take just the Tilt. It's the first smartphone I've owned that was complete enough to leave everything else behind.

Same here, all I carry on the plane now is my TyTnII and Promate PM-2600's (absolutely no ticks or skipping with these!) and I have a WLHDD2.5 100Gig wireless hardrive in my case for tons of extra AV and business files.
I find I can get around 5-6 hours continous play when in flight mode and still have 50% battery left. If I connect my 'power monkey' portable charger I can easily double that.

Touch Diamond. eats through batteries like no other phone.

im new to diamond and this forum. Hi all
here are my two questions.
1, there are other companies selling batteries *same size* but nearly double the power.
have any of you diamond users tried this and whats your experience ?
2, can you recommend a link to working methods on saving on battery consumption ?
**RANT MODE ON**
i bought my diamond a few days and i just cant help notice the battery life is is less than
5 hours. mind you though the phone is packed with features and versatile, but what is the point of having it... oh yea. (excuse the pun) maybe its there just to look at but not to Touch. LOL
i have the latest rom 1.9 installed. i changed the registry thingy from 600 to 60.
the weather update is off. no email accounts and no other internet services other than
oprea when needed.
for example yesterday on a fully charged phone.
i traveled to work 3/4 of an hour
10 min on the net
15 min filling calender with new events.
received 3 calls each lasting average 5
made 2 calls 1 lasted 12min the other 7min.
i looked at the phone battery level and 1 bar vanished poof!!! just like that LOL
at work there is no wifi plus i dont get time to look on phones and stuff
so later that day leaving work poof!!! another battery block vanishes just like that.
bearing in mind that the the phone was on, screen was off.
nearly the same usage as above on the phone going back home from work.
at home looked at 1 youtube video obama freudian slip "muslim faith" LOL
at the end of that clip the Diamond was screaming for a recharge.
as you can see im a light phone user yet still the battery cant hold up
i read somewhere that HTC will release a bigger battery plus new cover case.
im not too interested in that since the price is too high and the bigger case means
a bigger phone (sandwich carry case) plus while HTC quality control was in effect
on the touch Diamond im sure they must of noticed that the battery was stupid
**/RANT MODE OFF**
thank you
How can your battery life be less than 5 hours when you just stated 50% used after a workday (1+1 bar)? Do you work 2.5 hours per day?
Otherwise, there is a plethora of info on this if you just search the forum. Improved batteries exist, but they all need a new cover. Yes it SHOULD be fairly easy to slap at least 1200+ mAh into stock size, but nothing seems to be happening on the 3rd party side aside from that fat 1800mAh beast.
If you let HSDPA data connection on it will eat the battery very fast. On top of that if you let bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, the diamond wont even hold 5 hours

Batterylife one Day quicky

Hi,
I recently bought a galaxy s10 and I'm wondering if the batterylife is rly so "Bad" or if there is something wrong with my Software.
I have a screenshot attatched. This was a Day with biking (Navigation in background) and only liddle screen on time.
Before I had a xiaomi Mi 9t pro and i was able to use the Phone for two days without charging. Even sot of 7 hours or more.
Why is my s10 not Even lasting "one day".?
Seems to me Q is the culprit
Are you on Android Q yet? My S10 used to reach 30-40+ hours of battery time on P (mostly web whatsapp and regular phone calls, no games at all, see pic).
After upgrading to Q, juice can't even give me 30 hours. As I see it, in my case Q is clearly the culprit.
SOT is not a valid metric for me, as I'm always on web whatsapp -- lots of use, screen always off.
I am Android 9 with the AT&T firmware G975U model. I can get around 25 or 26 hours out of it before I have to recharge it.
Yes I'm on Android Q.
I think it's due to aod and Google Service.
With the Installation of gms fix Module of magisk the betterylife got better. Also im using the adaptive battery Management setting and disabled aod. Now it's only on when I received a message, which is fine for me.
Now im getting through a Day, but still it's not that impressive compared to other phones (one plus and so on)

SM-G7810 (HK) Some concerns

Hello,
I just ordered the S20 FE 5G at a pretty good price on Rakuten at 504 € in 128GB / 8GB RAM version. I just received it this morning. I unpack it but not yet turned on. The phone is 100% new, no damage, nothing to report at this time.
Nevertheless, I had a little disappointment when I saw the SIM drawer thinking it was 2SIM + SD Card and in fact it's your choice. Either 2 SIM or 1 SIM + 1 SD card. Anyway ... After doing several searches on the eSIM (since initially, I wanted to use my personal SIM + my pro SIM for work + the SD Card), I came across several concerns:
- Updates for Hong Kong models that seem to arrive last (least serious of all but annoying all the same)
- The flash of an XEF ROM which seems to be a problem
- May be instabilities in Samsung software such as Samsung Pay
- The eSIM which may never happen?
- Network antennas
That being said, do you think that it is still possible to switch it to an XEF version without bricking it?
And are there any SM-G7810 owners here?
Thank you !
I'm not complaining abouth this model so far. It's not buggy, performs well, battery life is great and updates do come as today with February patch. It did skip January. I came from LG and they only updated Europe version each 3 months. Chinese versions got over 4 months to 6 a update.
Hi,
Ok thanks for the feedback! If everything works fine, so much the better. My biggest concern is with the eSIM which I think probably won't be available for HK models ...

Let me get this straight - you would prefer faster updates, XEF software, no issues with Samsung Pay functionality, and the frequencies you use in France - so why did you buy the HK model again??
Hi,
For the price quite simply and the 2 GB of ram more for the S20 FE in HK version. However, I had not considered this kind of concern.
Otherwise I just started it and so far everything is working fine. The battery, however, is not the best ... A small disappointment at this level. Otherwise, everything else is really there!

Try turning 5G off. With 5G turned off, the battery life on the Snapdragon models is excellent.
Thanks for your return,
I had already done this seen that I do not have a 5G package yet but no visible difference. Today, for example, I used it to research the internet for over an hour and reply to messages. I went from 80% (this morning at 6.30am) to 44% at the time of writing this message (3.15pm).
I don't know if it's normal but it seems weird to me ...

No, that doesn't sound normal - but the phone will improve over time as it puts unused apps to sleep, etc. Look at your battery usage to see what is causing the most drain. You should be getting at least 4 hours of screen-on time from a full charge. Cell signal can cause battery life to vary widely in my experience, but even then, this phone should get excellent battery life.
Ok, thanks a lot for the information.
It's been 4 days since I started it but the analysis program of my habits is not yet finished.
Having said that, I haven't done a full charge yet. I only did 40% to 80% small charges to better preserve the battery as I know full charges damage the battery. Maybe I should do one now?
Hi,
I come back to the news. The phone has finished studying my battery usage. It tells me that my battery can last 1 day and 3 hours. A little weak, right?
Especially since I don't play any games. I just use social media / Apple Music / and small calls every now and then. In short, a very common use.
disable google chrome if you don't use it. I've never even opened it and I've disabled it twice (after updates) and it still has two instances of high battery drain.
Hi and thank you for your reply!
I take note of it but it's a bit annoying as this is the browser that I mainly use.
go outside your comfort zone for one week, try another browser and see if it makes a difference.
My sm- g7810 get 6h screen on time with still 30procent left today.Battery is set at maximum performance and 120hz refresh and I don't use auto optimalisation battery, I restart my device just once a day and that's it.
I debloat most useless apps like chrome and social media I don't use. Also standard mail and Google mail and and exchange service I dumbed because they could cause drain. I use my mail and use opera browser that's much better. I have zero complaints of this phone. Maybe u use optimize battery frequently so could drain your battery faster
Hi ! Thanks for the information.
Personally, I did 5 hours of screen yesterday. I started at 90% when I woke up in the morning and I was at 30% around 11pm. On the other hand I am in normal mode, I did not put the performances in maximum mode. I will also try not to use Chrome because I see that it is indeed greedy. Although from what I could see the most greedy are Apple Music and Messenger. The problem is that Messenger, I cannot put it to sleep otherwise I will not receive notifications.
If not, do you think my battery is intact there or should it last longer?

Don't worry to much, everything thing that stream like apple music is a battery eater.I depends on every user how much it affect battery life tru the day. Now I did 5h 11min with 25 procent left. You can't expect the same results

Your battery is fine. Try playing around with some of your settings to see if it makes any difference. For example, although I have two SIMs installed, I'm not currently using the second one, so I turned it off. This seems to have helped a lot. Also, 'Double Tap to Wake' etc., drains battery, so make sure your phone is set up as you like/need it (and nothing more) - then stop worrying about it.
Hi,
Thanks to you for these answers.
This reassures me about the life of my battery!

"Poor" battery life on a brand-new S20 FE (Android 12)?

Hi everyone,
I got my new S20 FE just a few days ago, and I'm still getting used to it, but I wonder if having to charge the battery every day on average is "normal" or not.
When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery is never flat. Rather, it's hovering at around 30%, and I usually stop charging when it reaches 85 to 90%. I use the 15W (?) charger that was in the box, so no ultra-quick charge for this one.
I tried to plug it into a Xiaomi/Poco 33W charger for a few minutes, just to see if it would speed things up, but the remaining charging time was the same as with the regular charger so I reverted to it, just to be on the safe side.
Still, I wonder if it's normal to have to recharge the phone every day, when my Poco X3 Pro needed to be charged every two days on average. Granted, the Poco has a bigger battery, but it has an LCD screen instead of an AMOLED.
I spend a lot of time on Twitter, especially in the evening, mostly, but that's it. No gaming of any kind.
What say you?

Hi,
I've turned Auto brightness off. I'll tell you if it changes anything in terms of battery life. I've also set AOD to fixed brightness instead of auto.
Thanks for the tip!
No problem, thank you for the question!
I think that debloating is not a bad idea, also try to go to all individual apps settings and set the battery to Restricted, except mail and messaging apps, so they won't drain the battery when you're not using them. Lowering the screen refresh rate also helps a bit, as well as restricting mobile data to 4G only, if you don't need 5G. Also, you can limit processor speed, turn Adaptive battery on and Enhanced processing off.
Hi again!
I've changed network settings to 4G and below since my SIM doesn't give me access to 5G yet, but battery life was still iffy. I then changed the network settings to something called "GLOBAL", and it's a bit better, though I don't know what that setting does exactly.
It also depends on how much your using your phone, what apps your running (games vs non-games, etc).
For example, I've played some games, but mainly have been on the internet via apps like social media, email, web browser.
I'm currently at 55% And it's been over 24 hours since I last fully charged it. The Battery graph says based on how I've been using the phone that I still have about 1d 3h left.
I do usually charge once a day, but it's definitely more than 24 hours after the last charge. I went to bed last night with over 62% left after having charged it probably 12 hours prior. When I woke up this morning, it was done to 59% and since then, is now at 55%.
So I've been pretty pleased with the battery life for me. Whether that's good or bad, I have no idea but it's definitely better than my last phone.
I don't do games on my phone (in fact, I don't do games at all, period), but I think the AOD being set on automatic lighting could have something to do with my relatively poor battery life. I'll try to set it to a fixed brightness and see if it changes things, though the brightness scale is pretty rudimentary. Maybe the light sensor is turned off when automatic brightness is off.
I usually spend more time on Twitter when I'm on the phone, so this could explain that.
Another possible factor is my application launcher: I use Microsoft Launcher, which I adore, but every time I wake up the screen, it does a position fix to update the weather widget. That could also explain why my battery drains faster than I expected.
I've just set AOD to fixed brightness. I'll tell you if it helps or not. Thanks for your input anyway!

I used to use Microsoft Launcher, but then switched to Nova launcher. However, since getting this phone, I've moved to OneUI and I'm loving it. I haven't really changed anything. AOD is set to whatever it was out of the box and I've been on Twitter and the web since I last posted and I'm currently at 53%.
I think I have seen MS Launcher be a battery hog if I remember. Nova isn't as bad, but OneUI seems to work great.
Also, the number and type of widgets you have installed could also cause battery drain. For me, I only have one screen. I use smart widgets to "stack" widgets I need which are calendar, weather (from WeatherBug), Brave Search, PowerAmp (for music) and then the phone maintenance widget. So far, battery life is pretty good like I've said.
You can also go into Settings->Battery and Device Care and maybe check in there to see what might be eating up your battery the most.
I like the look and feel of MS Launcher, compared to others (I believe I've tried them all over the years...), even if I have to admit Nova is a close second. MS Launcher is a possible culprit, obviously. I may switch back to One UI to check how things are going, I don't know.
I've just topped-off the battery, and just idling, the phone is supposed to last over 2 days until the next charge, but I know it won't last that long.
So I got my phone used (only 2 months, still has back poly attached) and it came with august 1 update and the battery drain on it is abysmal. I can see the battery go down while I'm browsing insta or whatever, not even gaming. You know what instantly fixed it? Downclocking my gpu and cpu using FKM. But this is not a pretty solution as it requires root and I would like to experience stock without root for a bit.
Which makes me think the system isn't properly downclocking the soc when idle leading to increased drain. I would like to know if anyone has a better fix than just disabling all the options on your phone.

Well, considering it's used (was it refurbished or did you purchase it off eBay or some other market)? That might be why it was being sold. You said 2 months. Does that mean it was only used for 2 months or you've had it for 2 months? If the phone itself is only 2 months old, who knows how the previous owner used the phone.
Did you do a factory reset when you got it to ensure it was back to stock settings? If so, then it might be your battery is bad and could be the reason it was sold/returned by the previous owner. If you haven't factory reset it, that is possibly the only other option that I can think of if you've already rooted and downclocked it.
Mine was new when I got it a few weeks ago and the battery lasts 1.5 days for me, even with the refresh rate set to 120 Hz. And that's with moderate use (playing games a bit, browsing the web, texting, phone calls).
You might want to try setting your screen refresh to 60 Hz to see if that helps as well if you haven't done that yet.
Go to Settings->Display->Motion Smoothness and select "Standard" to set it to 60 Hz refresh. That will save some battery as well.
See if that helps as well. If not, and as I stated, if you haven't done a factory reset, that might be your only other option unless someone else has something I haven't thought of.

Yeah I got it from a store second hand. Came with the back poly still attached and no damages on the body. A killer deal. As for the battery issue, I had flashed wrong region stock rom. After learning what csc meant and figuring out I was on the wrong region I flashed the right rom and now my battery life is top notch. On a side note it has only 54 charge cycles after I got it.

Glad you were able to figure it out. Even though the phone is reaching 2 years since it's release, I've been very happy with it. My S7 finally died over a week ago after 5+ years of dependable service.

This is actually the second device I bought this year. At first I upgraded my Redmi Note 5 Pro which gave me 4 years of great service. Could have reached 5 but then I would not be able to exchange it so I did and got a Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g. Considering how much I paid for it I was more or less satisfied except the camera. Then I bought this after months of careful consideration and also because it was a killer deal. I got a brand new device for half the price. Flagship specs at 33k bdt. You can't get a better deal.
