Is edge lighting working for you guys? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

The dege lighting on mine desont seem to be working at all. I had only the edge lighting switched on and edge screen off and always on display on. Any insight? Thanks in advance!

Mine is working and was enabled for messages by default.

Works for me.
Everytime message or email arrives, colorful ring goes around the screen.

Have you tried APP SPESIFIC section?

To update, looks like SMS does work but not emails and other apps even they are whitelisted. Thanks for the input anyway!

Has to be an app that would show notification content not just make a sound and show an icon

Works only for me with screen ON. But it screen is off it won't work.

seems like that would be when you want it to edge light the most.

With the screen off or on?

There is a free Galaxy App called Edge Lighting Plus that gives you a lot more control and options.

I started using Good Lock in my Note 8, installed on my new 9 as well. One of the suggested accompanying apps is the EdgeLighting+. I actually am not sure if it's working yet, as this weekend hasn't been a good time to test. Most of my notifications are Facebook, Instagram, and email related and I don't think those ever invoked edge lighting for me.
I'll be able to test more reliably in terms of SMS and Hangouts this coming week.

Hmm still doesnt work I think I have to use the stock Samsung apps for it to work I think. Yep it's the Samsung apps that work with it

I haven't messed with the edge lighting settings at all and it seems to be working normally.

It doesn't work for calls from what I tested. If you look at the available apps the phone app isn't listed. Everything listed it so far always works for me.
Edit : Also if you have a flip cover case like samaung flip cover it will disable it

Edge lighting is a joke.

Flashlight app for XOOM (camera LED as a torch)

Hi guys,
I'm the developer of Tiny Flashlight + LED. I believe that it should work on XOOM (be able to use the camera LED as a torch), but I don't have the device and can't test it. Can someone test it and tell me whether it works on XOOM? Also, test the widget.
Thanks!

Both the app and widget work and it nearly blinded me! lol
One thing you might want to consider is to not force portrait mode which is common with the phone apps. Most people use the tablet in landscape.

As stated already, works great. No complaints, but you've already said you're going to work on the layout so keep up the good work mate.
Fantastic. I was hoping Motorola would update their own proprietary app to support Xoom but that haven't yet. I'll have to look at this.
so... blinding...
any chance that the update will include brightness settings?

Try adding it to a blank screen that you are not using, I just dragged and dropped it on that screen. Then went to that screen and tapped it. Maybe there is some issue with how your screens are configured.

Nice to have since Moto dropped the ball on adding Xoom support to their own app.
Anyone notice the Xoom's flash has a weird yellowish tint to it? It's also like three times brighter than my Droid's flash, which is kinda neat.
I'm the developer of Flashlight + Led @ https://market.android.com/details?id=droid.pr.coolflashlightfree and let me know if it's working with xoom? I don't have the device so I can't test it.
Thanks

Let's Talk Hand Gestures!

Hi all. I'm normally not a big fan of starting threads, but because I'm sitting at work right now just wanting to play with my new phone, I might as well start a discussion.
So one of the coolest things about this phone for me so far are all the hand gestures. I know some of them are a little gimmicky, but there are also a couple of useful ones.
My favorites so far:
- Wake up your phone to show Time, missed calls or messages and battery by reaching towards your phone when asleep. Hint: If waving your hand towards the center doesn't initially wake it up, try bringing your open hand towards your sensor, then taking it away and then bringing your hand towards the sensor again. This feature will really come in handy in the middle of the night when I want to know what time it is.
- Take a screenshot by moving the side/palm of your hand across the screen. It's so much easier than trying to time the Home and Power buttons simultaneously.
What are your favorite gestures?
I thought we could use this thread for those who may need help figuring out these features as well. :good:
For some reason I cannot get my phone to switch tracks when I wave my hand. Do I have to be using the stock player for this to occur?

I'm not 100% on this, but I'm guessing that yes, it must be the stock player.
most of the hand gestures have been working on the note 2 for months now, so im not in awe of any...although the page scrolling sure seems like it might come in handy from time to time...
The hand thingies is awesome tho I don't use them...but good to have to show off The wake up feature to see the battery, calls and what not is awesome

The side of your hand has to be touching the screen...(mainly the bottom half of the screen)and swipe from left to right or right to left....you have to find the sweet spot and remember where that is

Lay your phone on a flat surface and with a flat hand reach towards the phone and then pull it back. Your blue notification light should quickly go on and then the screen will light up with the information.
I'm at work and can't access YouTube, but I think there's a video on it too. If you're still having trouble, I can try to link a video when I get home.

One of the more useful gestures, IMO, is the moving an app/widget to a different screen. To achieve it, hold an icon with your left thumb, wave your right hand over the sensors from the left to right or vice versa to change the screen.
these actually really come in handy for me when my hands are dirty. i do a lot of work on my cars and im not really a fan of getting grease all over the screen and these save me a lot of hassle. i never even thought i would use them at first.

Good call. I get a lot of use from Air View when working out as well. It's so easy to change songs by just waving my hand over the phone.

Does it have gestures for rejecting a call like flipping off? Can you have and appropriate gesture assigned to go to a browser bookmark or URL or play a video? Sorry, saw the topic title and I couldn't resist. Lol

SlingPlayer

Anyone else install SlingPlayer out of curiosity? It installs and works well w/ BT tethering. The one thing I cannot seem to change is the app auto-rotates the image 90 degrees, so you have to take the watch off to watch it. Is there an Xposed mod or another way of rotating the image back?

You can set orientation with app settings (xposed module).
Would have never guessed this works well? Which slingbox do you have? I'm very doubtful that the stream would be good enough via BT tethering?
I am also running slingbox..... It will take a minute to adjust to the speed but after that it works great! Only negative is battery..... but really That's a given!

This surprisingly works really well. Is anybody else unable to change the channel using the keybpard though? The right column is practically gone, you can't use the "3, 8, and enter."
Is anyone able to post a picture of sling player running in their gear? I don't doubt that it works just want to see the scale of it. I think it is pretty freaking awesome to have TV on your watch.
