My UK Note 9 512GB/8GB Ram variant - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

So got my Note 9 today, here's a rushed unboxing video:
mod edit - link removed
I've got the Note 8, both variants of the Note 9, 8GB of RAM and 6GB of RAM. So, at some point tonight, I'll be doing a speed test video too. I'll post the link here once that's done, hopefully it will help those thinking about upgrading from the Note 8 to Note 9

Hurry......i can't wait to see results. I ordered 512gb/8gb, but only ONE...
thanks

Will do Note 8 vs Note 9 (8GB) tonight then will do Note 9 (8GB) vs Note 9 (6GB) tomorrow.

Could you post the ram available screenshot from the note 9 of the 8gb model.
Also the available memory screenshot thanks.

Just out of curiosity. Does note 9 128gb also take 50gb of memory of just that note 9 with 512gb.
A bit shocking was expecting the availabile memory to be around 500gb rather than 450gb.

As promised, a speed test video, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Note 9 (8GB):

Yes, even mine does, though not sure why it takes so much. I think post configuring my office account it enabled all security policies of KLMS hence this extra space is taken.

Can you please do a memory comparison between the 6GB and 8GB versions? Like those tests where they open 30 apps and see how many they can open before one refreshes?

I've done an antutu benchmark test between both variants, that tests the memory.

Yeah, but that is not quite what I meant. Have you ever seen the video with the Note8 where they see how many apps it can hold in memory before refreshing? They compared it to the S8+ I believe, to show how much better it was.

Where's the lag?

I've looked at every YouTube video and I can't find any lag on the S5. I remember last year at this time and the S4 was lagging and stuttering all over the place. Is S-Lag really gone?
You will see lags coming with a bang!

kitkat changed most of that. and especially with the snapdragon. my note 3 is on JB, but it's really smooth with the snapdragon lol
If the new note pro or tab pro is anything to go by, there will be lag lol

Granted it's not the S4, but even when it was stock my S3 never had any lag...
I actually saw a video with some Sutter, I think it was on Android central but I'm not sure

I did see lag still.
You can clearly see the animations aren't as fast as say the Nexus 5 or Z2.
What a disappointment...
I saw lag in one of the hands on videos showing the new lock screen. It's going to be there unless they fully re-optimize their software. Why they didn't with the 5th generation galaxy phone, I will never understand.
With an 8+GB ROM and only 2GB of user RAM, it will lag or stutter just as much as the GS4.

It'll chew away at your ram since the ROM is causing the phone to bog down my GN3 on stock rom 2.2 GB out of my 3 GB of ram is eaten up with just the phone being on and all the processes stopped so get ready for it because the Stock roms chew up your ram and spit it out Bigger ROM more processes that the RAM needs to have account for which means less ram for the user

So? you still have 2.2 GB free RAM? right?? And don't forget out of that used RAM, GPU will take a big chunk. It's not just the bloat, but other things as well. Google's services are that light either.
When was the last time you had full 3GB of RAM consumed (or 2GB in other phones)?

No it uses about 2.2 GB I only have about .8 GB of ram and honestly I hit the wall quite often I'm a heavy user I have a bunch of background processes running with auto updates so it takes up quite a chunk I will be flashing a new ROM clean rom most likely to solve the issue

snapdragon 805 support.....

hi guys, what you think about the snapdragon version now that the nexus 6 has it...i mean is it better to get the s805 over the exynos....because the nexus is like the android benchmark phone ( not performance but support)...so maybe apps developers will support this version more....what you think...
We will have to wait and see the first Snapdragon 805 phone is the Galaxy Note 4 and so far on AT&T and T-Mobile, it's a beast. If your a diehard mobile gamer, there will be lag on GTA: San Andreas on Max Graphics. However other games like modern combat 5 play awesome.
no i am not a gamer...i just want the apps to run smoothly...even facebook stutter on my S4...the apps are not optimized that good....
We lucked out these phones are similarly speced and feel that we will benefit from it.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
yeah, there is a problem, now there is a reason to buy each one of the versions, the exynos is better right now, but in the future the s805 will get better support.....
Lol let the CM come. Just a few weeks(even days or hours ). At that point Sd805 will definitely be a winner with all the mods and add-ons. It has always been that way

The dont really optimize for a soc. Like some of the games always lagged on quallcomm devices. And scrolling stutter always happen art runtime gonna fix that probably or i always fixed it with xuimod or a better governer.

Agreed. If I were you, I'd return the note ASAP and wait just a couple more weeks for that sexy nexy. You'll save yourself a lot of time and hassle waiting for stable updates, gain access to TONS of mods, and save a little green along the way.

I'd keep the Note if I were you.
The Note 4 Snapdragon probably won't be as good in terms of support as the Nexus 6, but it will be more than good enough I'd guess, based on the volume of support the Note 3 Snapdragon variant got. Plus there's some indication that this Nexus 6, owing to its higher price and phablet size might not get the popularity that the previous generation of Nexus phones got. It'll still be better support wise, but the price advantage the Nexus had is mostly gone.
Hardware wise, I don't think the AMOLED on the Nexus will be as good as the AMOLED on this phone (will wait for reviews). We should wait for reviews I think. My guess though is that the camera, screen, and a few other features will likely be better on the Note, plus it has an S-Pen. The other issue is a lack of a removable battery and expandable storage, so if you are like me and keep a lot of FLAC, you'll have to buy the higher end version (eroding the Nexus price advantage even more).
Keep the Note 4, wait for the Nexus 6 reviews, and go to a store to play around with a Nexus after it comes out.

Switching From a Nexus 5 to a Note 4 Any Suggestion?

On Thursday I will be upgrading to the Note 4 and this will be my first Samsung device too disregarding my old nexus S and wanted to know if there is anything I should know in advance before buying this device. Anything is helpful! Thank you all in advance

I went from Nexus S --> Note 2 --> Note 4 Exynos
Each upgrade was excellent. The Note 2 was a great device with much development. Now, Note 4 Exynos is slowly getting there.
I encourage you to make this move.
The N4 screen is really amazing. QHD kicks ass. U didn't say what CPU version you may buy - each variant (Exynos vs Snapdragon) has pros & cons. Read up on the different modem capabilities. MY battery on Lollipop (newest build) gives me 5.5 hours on-screen time, lasts 2 full days.

Good camera - slow motion, UHD video
xposed now available for deodexed ROMs

Welcome to the Note 4 family~
Just go for it , don't hesitate. The first thing i did was to root mine. And with the necessary tweaks it works like a charm. Never had a real problem with root or custom recovery.
Wouldnt want to change it for any other device rigth now!
Just got it today and couldn't be happier! Still running off the stock charge out of the box with about 3 hours of sot even though most of it was setting up the device and downloading back my apps. I had my nexus 5 rooted since day 1 and want to see the performance of this device and battery life before rooting even though rooting has many benefits. Hope to get development support from here for the next 2 years of my contact and thanks for the warm welcome ?

Thank you. That's exactly what I meant. Your help is appreciated. I tried to find it under the results tab. But the app doesn't have a search feature. Bleh.
Its insane how fast it is. I'm waiting for mine and I'm still rocking a galaxy note 2. Holy moly.
Its consistently pulling scores 10-15x faster than my phone.
Here is some different more informed information.
This is my Samsung galaxy note 2. Can't wait! This really broke a few hopes. But gave more realistic expectations. Most results show the op3t is 6-8 times faster. Oh yea!
Just switched my data partition from ext4 to f2fs. Forgot to test it before I formatted it to compare.
Would you run pcmark storage bench with f2fs?
Also did you have to run a different kernel? Or does stock kernel handle f2fs?

Mi9 global extremely low geekbench scores?

Hi, i just got the device 2 days ago, i was on other firmware, and i had the same issue.
I updated to the 10.2.30, but nothing changed here are the scores,
Now before you tell me benchmark don't matter, i know, but im affraid cores may not boost during real life workloads and im getting crippled snapdragon 660 instead of s855, thank.
P.S. The phone is also not faster and even slower compared to s10 exynos in tasks, this is what made me investigate.
You sure you see those numbers reflected in daily tasks? I was curious if I'd get similar results and I did in geekbench but other benchmark apps give the result we'd expect so I'm pretty sure it's just the app that's at fault.
No, not completely but the phone is not faster and even slower compared to supposedly slower 9820 based s10...sometimes chrome starts to load web woth 2 seconds delay, and apps install time is also a bit sluggish
Well when my mi 9 came in I still had the oneplus 7 pro that I wanted to return so I compared them speed wise. Could barely tell that the mi 9 was slower than the 7 pro in download+install, most of the time it was almost the same if not the same and that's down to ufs 3.0 i guess. And believe me, I'm not boasting about my mi 9, because being fast is this phones's only quality, everything else is average at best in my opinion.
Can you do geekbench and pc mark work 2.0 for me please? just let few mins between runs and close everything from the background first, thanks alot!
P.S. What FW you are using? 64 or 128GB version?
You are using geekbench 5, use geekbench 4 if you want higher score.... Nice placebo just from a score.

Average, actually it takes better photos and video over the OnePlus 7 pro!
To back that up look no further then the 50 plus reviews on YouTube!
Also the Mi 9 has better ultra wide and telephoto cameras.
Has wireless 20watt charging like no other does which the OnePlus has no wireless at all!
Charges faster, 1hr flat, last longer,
IR blaster although nothing major still nice to have. I use it. Especially at sports bars when you want your game! Lol
The only thing the OnePlus 7 pro truly beats the Mi 9 at is the display. Other then that the fact is the Mi 9 is even faster! Proven.
The 3.0 is only for data transfer out a USB C cable. Not to important to me overall!

My bad I will due a geekbench 5 tomorrow but geekbench is not really that good. If you want the best run the new AnTuTu 8 . Whatever to see what your getting as that test memory, CPU, GPU, and UX. Try that but the Mi 9 should do better then just about anything but a gaming phone!

My 1st result running warm and worth 5 apps loaded I will post below and more tomorrow. But it beats every registered score they have for Android and by a decent bit and that's with apps running and warm!!
Gokh is right, they changed the score multiplier in geekbench 5 it seems, it's easy to tell if you look at other phones' score, they're all in the same league.
I did the geekbench 5 on 10.2.28 EEA, 128 GB and got a similar result, a bit lower. I don't know what pcmark work 2.0 is, I typically just use antutu as it tests many things without going through the hassle of installing 6 other apps and is maintained properly.

It is very easy to start to imagine things that is not true based on a misinterpreted performance score!
Mi 9 is definitely faster then S10 exynos in use.
