AA Issues - Android Auto General

Pixel 2 XL - Stock
Pioneer HU (don't have the model right now)
Problems:
1) Voice commands no longer route to Waze and I have not been able to get it to work anymore by having Waze open first.
2) Google maps voice guidance. The sound quality is attrocious. I've changed a few settings bit nothing has fixed it.
Anyone have ideas?

Hi,
For your first issue you need to change the default navigator from the unit by clicking twice in the bottom bar icon and selecting Waze.
For the second not many things you can do with Google TTS.
You may try installing a different engine but i haven't tried myself.

Thanks
For 1) Tried that and it no longer works. But know it did in the past. Also removed maps but that's a nogo as well
2) I tried a different TTS engine but it doesn't work wothaps, it still uses Google.. guess I am screw on this one.

Just downloaded an old version of Waze. Working now
Worked once and now stopped.

Bumped like a bumper car

Waze issue happened to me with my OEM headunit (sync 3), the same days it was happening to you.

[Q] Xperia Z3C FM Radio broken?

I can't seem to get the Z3C FM Radio to tune into any frequencies in the UK, just static. All headphones tested worked fine with Z1C.
Anyone else have any luck getting it to work?
Whilst scanning for stations brings up a load of false positives, I can definitely pick up stations such as the BBC ones including the local station, Heart, Classic, etc.
Tested with Etymotic HF5s, RHA MA750s and Sennheiser CX150s.
Strange, I can't get anything at all, no matter what I try it with. Tried factory reset, repair via PC Companion, still just static. I'm guessing I have a faulty unit.
Works fine here too
Works fine in the US
The FM radio works for me, but only while it is in the foreground or while the notification window is pulled down. It doesn't work in the background for me.

It works for me in the foreground or background, when in the background there's a notification icon and some controls there.

Hi - I am replying a bit late because I just came across this thread while trying to troubleshoot a problem I experienced with the FM Radio this evening, which until now has been functioning perfectly.
This may not be your problem, but I'm going to describe it and a work-around for it, in case others may find this thread later when searching for problems with the Z3/Z3 Compact FM Radio. I hope it helps you, as well.
The problem is apparently due to an unfortunate conflict between the FM Radio app and the Google Now voice-activated search settings ("Ok Google").
The main symptom of the problem is that the FM Radio will not play audio through either the headphones or the speakers. This may be misdiagnosed as a broken radio, or failure to tune any stations, but in reality the radio itself is functioning and stations are being tuned. There is just no sound coming from the speakers or headphones (regardless of the setting of the Headphone/Speaker switch within the FM Radio app).
I discovered the explanation for this problem at the following thread, which deals with the Sony Z2 model, and is claimed, on the thread, to only happen when the Google Experience Launcher (GEL) is used in lieu of Sony's stock launcher. Unfortunately, on my Z3 Compact, the problem is occurring despite the fact that I'm using the stock Sony launcher.
Here is a link to the thread:
http://www.thedroidbot.com/sony-xperia-z2-fm-radio-issue-google-now-launcher-fixed/
Basically, the problem is a conflict between the Google Now service's "Ok Google" voice detection and the FM Radio app. Disabling the service's voice-activation (being able to say "OK Google" to invoke the service in listening mode for verbally stating a query) will restore the FM Radio app's ability to play sound correctly.
To test if this is your problem, try the following steps (the FM Radio app should *not* be active while you do this - use the "Close All" item on the task switcher to make sure the app is not active if you have had it running):
1) Invoke the "Search & Now" settings for Google Services using one of these two methods:
a) Slide up and right from the "Home" icon on the device's bottom center to invoke the Google Now search screen, scroll to the bottom, and tap the "..." menu, and select "Settings"
-or-
b) Run the "Google Settings" app from the installed apps menu screens (or a shortcut, if you have placed one somewhere), and tap the "Search & Now" item
2) Select the "Voice" item
3) Tap the '"Ok Google" Detection' item
4) Uncheck any checked items on this screen ("From Google Search app", "From any screen", "From lock screen")
5) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left of this screen
6) Slide the "Audio History" switch to the Off position
7) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left of this screen
8) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left one last time to exit the settings app
9) Test the "FM Radio" app to see if it is now functional - if so, you must either choose between being able to use the FM Radio app or having the ability to invoke the Google Now service by using the "Ok Google" voice phrase (or you must memorize this sequence of steps and repeat them each time you wish to use the FM Radio app, and then re-enable them when you are done with the app).
NOTE: Disabling the voice activation feature of the Google Now service does *not* mean you are giving up the ability to do voice queries within the Google Now service. To do voice queries will simply require you to press the small microphone icon within the service or on the Google Search widget on your device's home screen to activate and place the service into listening mode.

That wasn't the problem in my case, as I could clearly hear radio static just no channels could tune, and also tried it with voice activation off since I'd heard of this conflict too. I returned it and my new one works just fine. Other users may find your detailed description of the other problem useful though, so thanks for posting.

I'd like to thank you for the info. This was exactly the problem with my device. Switching off Google Now fixed it! Now some big fixing updates would be great!

Glad it helped. As far as fixes go, I'm not optimistic since the problem has been around since the Z2 (and I suspect longer), but we'll probably find out sometime early next year when Lollipop is likely to drop for our devices.
Wish there was a good way to get reports like this to the right folks at Sony. There is also a very annoying conflict with this same Google Now feature and the Sony Camera app.

Perfect workaround. Noticed that my radio didn't work. If I selected TrackID I got 3 or 4 seconds of radio then silence again.

[HELP] Tasker Multi Window with Action

Hi, in short:
I am trying to accomplish the following:
- Secure Settings starts the Google Maps driving mode
- Tasker launches Poweramp
- Both go together in split screen
How may I do this?
(I am on OOS 4.5.5 - OnePlus 5)
I have a nexus 7 2013 installed in the car and I'm looking for something like that!

Thanks for the app idea. It's theoretically perfect, but does nor launch Poweramp as chosen when launched via Tasker. Any ideas?
EDIT: got it working, thanks

It works fine for maps and torque for me. I downloaded poweramp trial to test. It works fine whether I load it in the 1st or 2nd window, but in my case, maps is blank then pops to life if I touch it.
Any app that's not optimized to work in split screen may cause problems.

HOw get texts read out loud when on BT

I've tried several apps and none seem to work at reading my texts when on BT. I was thinking there was something on the phone already that should do that, but I haven't found it.
Anyone having success having texts read to you when on BT? If so, can y oh share how you are doing that?
Have you tried SMS Reader? I use it but not with Bluetooth so not sure if it works with that. Here's the link

I've been using eCID app (paid version, Google Play store) for many, many years.
Had no issues so far, as to, eCid reading my sms over bluetooth.
Whether its over my bluetooth connected car radio, Gear S3 or U level headset or Bluetooth connected bedside clock/radio.
See screenshots.

Readittome is what I had been using on my previous phone. Didn't seem to work. But I'm going to install it again, and double check settings and see if I can get it going.
I'll check out the other one too.

I'd agree with eCID - been using it since my Note II. You can also have it read out notifications from other messaging apps (WhatsApp, for example), or apps like Google & sports apps (when I forget the game is on) & more...
The developer has been very responsive to emails/questions/problems that may have popped up, over the years, on different Android versions.
I use audify, it seems to work really well for me. I just disable battery optimization and put in the unmonitored apps in the battery settings.

Android Auto various problems

Hi,
at the moment i have multiple problems with Android Auto.
Long time ago it worked at my phone without problems.
I can't tell since when exactly the problems appeared.
I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi 4x with Android 7.1.2
Headunit is a Kenwood 9716BTS
Problems:
- AA is not able to start Spotify.
when i plug in the phone to the car AA is starting normally.
when i then go tu music it says, that there is a problem with Spotify.
when i start Spotify manually before pluging in the phone to the headunit it is working.
- no WhatsApp messages are appearing.
i get no info when i get a message, but i can send a message without a problem-
- Google Assistence Voice
when i ask with "OK Google" it doesn't come any sound.
it looks like it is maleing something, cause it takes a few seconds till the icon, while saying, disappears.
just like it is saying something, but i get no sound.
while navigating or writing WhatsApp messages the sound is working normally...
Do anyone have any of these problem or know how to fix it?
I tried uninstalling AA and installing it new, but no difference.
Frank
Frank, I might know what the issue is if it is running MIUI on your Xiaomi. Go into 'settings' and then 'manage apps' and look for the programs Android Auto uses and open it in that setting.
For example your Spotify -> check that 'autostart' is switched on as it is switched off by default. There should also be a 'Battery saver' setting, change that to 'no restrictions' as it might stop the application. If you use Waze etc then do the same for those applications.
And please there are so many takers and runaway people on boards here. Let us know if it works or not, you help other people by sharing.
thanks for the tip.
Autostart for Spotify was deactivated. Maybe thats why AA was not able to start Spotify.
I will try it after work.
Energysetting were already deactivated for Spotify and AA.
Now there is just the problem with Google Assistant, where i don't get a sound with AA.
On my phone the Assistant works fine, just with AA i get no sound.
I have something in my mind, that it has something to do with some codec settings, cause long time ago i read about the problem... but i don't find this anymore while searching for the problem

i have changed now the mm.enable.qcom_parser in the build.prop
hope it works, when i try it at evening
Cool, feedback very well appreciated... and I guess this goes for everyone!
Miui and permissions might also be an issue. I change roms on a weekly base (don't ask why ... thx xda) and I have yet to find the procedure so it works every time. Most of the times I already set the permissions before I start up AA. Same thing with Whatsapp, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it helps to uninstall Text to speech in the Google Play store and reinstall it.
The only thing you MUST do is test these things when you are standing still and not while driving!
Spotify start problem is solved withe the Autostart option.
It must have been changed with some MIUI Update...
WhatsApp Notification and Google Assistant sound problem is still there....
I'm trying to google again to find anything about it

But the '- no WhatsApp messages are appearing.
i get no info when i get a message, but i can send a message without a problem-'
So you don't see a popup? Does it show as a message on the main AA screen?
Can you maybe make a small video of it. (you can pm me if you don't want to distribute)
i don't get a popop and also i don't get an info on the main screen
After changing mm.enable.qcom_parser to 245389 Google Assistence is finally speaking to me again
I think after next Miui update i have to change it again.

Weird, I run the latest versions of Xiaomi.eu on my Poco F1 and that seems to work perfectly. Might be worth posting a bug report on the official Xiaomi website, but don't get your hopes up high.

No more google Assistant..

It's 2 weeks, I can't have any response from Google assistant on AA. The assistant is working fine without Android auto.
If I ask something for example a destination, it works, but no voice answer anyway.
So I can't have any info about Weather or calendar etc...
Does anyone have the same issue?
Already tried to reinstall AA, Google and Google Play services (delete cache and data)...but it does not help...
Xperia x compact Oreo
What happen?
Same problem hier - when the assistant is replying, the headunit mutes..
https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/2475001?hl=en
I think that MAYBE you are experiencing the same problem as I am.
If you manually trigger assistant in your phone by holding the middle icon/button and say a command like call someone it will display a screen asking you for activation. No matter how many times you activate it. It will deactivate again and you will have to do the same process again.
Or it can be the mute headunit bug. I think I have both.
The issue is on the AA app without car unit, too.
Just no answer after asking anything...no assistant voice at all..
But Google app works ok...
Same here. Oneplus 6t. Found other fora describing the problem too. We just have to wait for a fix I think...
same problem

What did google reply when asked for an update on the issue?
At first the routines also worked, but then never again. Now the wizard has been limited to a few commands in android auto.
AA Updated to 4.8.5 still the same problem...
Really strange that they managed to mess it up so badly. And apparantly no fix in the latest release.
Still don't understand if all phones have the same issue, or some model only
Having same problem too. No response, only a "blink" sound. The order works but no voice reply
Galaxy S8 Plus + Kenwood Unit
I tried to send a whastapp msg and it works, but no reply when i ask about weather or travel to any place (directly opens navigation app after "blink")
The issue is on the AA app without car unit, too.
