Begin to customize phone OS... - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

Greet, guys!
I do this topic to solve some doubts and help new costumers with flashing OSs... If somebody can help thank you very much in advance.
I have losted and IMEI brick an old celphone making flashs so here are the questions.
- flashing with ADB can lost the IMEI ?
- flashing install TWRP can lost the IMEI?
- If I just do the TWRP install and flash some OSs can I lost IMEIs or brick my celphone?
Just simple question, in my opinion, but lose IMEI is not a thing that I want in the moment.
That's all, guys!
Best regards.

as long as you follow directions and don't do anything crazy, you probably won't brick the phone. i've rooted and installed custom roms on every phone i've had since ics and never permabricked anything. if you lose imei the fix is simple and can be found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s-plus/how-to/psa-flash-devices-persist-imei-loss-t3828575
i recommend making sure the data is working before you unlock the bootloader, and checking every box in twrp backup except maybe system image before you flash anything.

Thanks for answer, xtasquee...
I pretend do all TWRP backups before installing. I just have to know If I flash with ADB I'll add data only or erase some data?
When I lost my IMEI in other phone model I cannot restore anyway, that's why I'm carefully.
Tks for link too.

what did you actually do? do you still have access to recovery / download mode? read carefully the instructions of the roms you try to flash , their prerequisites and so on.
also you should have first learnt how to use at least odin , flash quickly a custom kernel and obtain root to backup the important bits and pieces - there are a number of threads talking how to backup your efs folder for example.
good luck!
First of all, there is a questions section where you should post this.
2nd, change your title. Its annoying and exactly the reason why people wont help you.
3rd, read the stickies.

[Q] Regain Root without Custom Recovery?

Hello Guys,
first of all I want to say "Hello" to this great forum since I am "new" here now.
This forum helped me alot to gain Root-Access to my Android-Smartphones I had.
But now I've got a question/problem which I couldn't find in this forum.
I gained root access to my HTC One when it was still on Android 4.2. As I am a beginner to this it was not easy at all, even with the Toolkit. The most annoying part I think was to wipe my complete data including sms, pictures, music and app-data. Saving all this with Titanium Backup and restore it again was really time-killing.
So I unlocked the Bootloader, set the CID to Germany (since I was on an T-Mobile CID), set S-Off and gained root access. After that I flashed the stock recovery again to receive OTA-Updates. Updating to Android 4.3. my root was lost and until now I was to lazy to regain it (because of all that trouble).
My question now is: can I regain root without flashing a custom recovery before? So that I wouldn't have to backup all my data and restore it with flashing a custom recovery. I know that there is this "Superboot"-method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190395), but it seems that it doesn't work on Hboot 1.54 anymore.
I really would appreciate it if you would know any method
Greetings Chris
ANSWER
So I figured out a solution which does it perfectly for me.
I found out that flashing a recovery won't wipe anything.
So my solution was simply to flash a custom recovery, push the su-binary to the phone, complete the root process and when done I flashed the stock recovery again which I could find after I googled a little bit. No data was lost during the process. Everything was still fine and the phone seems "untouched" after booting it again.
Hope this could help someone.

[Q] Unknown baseband/imei null after twrp install, ideas?

Today I made a first step towards custom ROM by installing the latest TWRP with Odin and taking a backup of all partitions. Rebooted and unfortunately now I have IMEI null and baseband null (it was originally I9305XXUFOA1 I believe)
Nothing else has been touched, I am still using stock ROM, and reset to factory default did not solve it...
I still have the IMEI number and a backup of the EFS partition. But when I restored this partition with TWRP, I still have No Signal.
I searched the forums and only thing closest is a post about the S4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370699
Is there any suggestion on what I can try to recover this problem?
If I type *#1234#, I get
AP I9305XXUFOB2
CSC I9305PHNFOB2
But no CP?
Now I did a total restore of the backup made with TWRP, but still "unknown baseband"
In case it helps others, here is what I learned
When flashing TWRP 2.8.7.0 on my 9305 with Odin, my modem becomes unusable every time.
It can be easily restored if you have the modem firmware, so that solved it. But it seems TWRP is very unreliable until I downgraded to an older version of it, 2.7.0.0. Now everything is working, although it can be tricky to get into the recovery mode (holding buttons for up to 30 seconds). I suppose this is normal behaviour...
Help please

Hi, I'm going nuts reading for the past 5 hours all the info about this issue and the multiple solutions i have tried with no success, i just stumbled in your post which describes exactly my problem, after flashing twrp bam!!
I have no backups, i bought this phone yesterday, unrooted this morning , spent some hours customizing stuff, got to the point to install a recovery to do a nand backup as the phone had all the apps and settings i wanted and this just happened, i am now going to do a complete stock flash, will it repair my modem? If not can you please provide me with a link to the modem firmware? Is it country associated, will i need a specific for my country/operator?
Thanks,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,
You should try to (re)flash only the modem with Odin. It's not so difficult, just take your time to familiarize with the steps.
To get a modem.bin, either you extract it yourself from a stock rom zip (see http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/) or get one from the topics at xda (for the 9305 I got XXALK2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...05/modems-i9305-cwm-flashable-modems-t2010116).
I suppose you have no access to TWRP right now? If so, reflash it with Odin too. I recommend version 2.7.0; it works for me very well. Then immediately take backup of everything (EFS etc) and transfer it to your PC
Let us know how it goes,
SOLVED: Null IMEI and baseband
Hi all,
My problem is solved, after flashing the latest stock ROM for my model (I9300) I got my IMEI back and everything back to normal, as told I could have just the modem.bin flashed but I went for the full re-image.
Then i unrooted using cf-autoroot and flashed twrp version 2.8.6.0 instead of 2.8.7.0, rebooted and everything ok. I already performed a full nand backup and learned various lessons from this. I think guys at TWRP should know that their latest version for the galaxy s3 is causing this problem, i believe most people will send their phones for repair because there are so many possible causes for this problem and so many xdifferent possible solutions that most people will quit solving the problem and will try to return the phone for repair.
Thanks for your reply and for the help. I will send an email to twrp linking to this thread.

T817TUVU1AOG8 Stock ODIN?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anoyone could help me find the stock odin file for my tab S2 Tmobile? I rooted and I have twrp and everything. I wanna go back to having LTE while I wait for a custom kernel that can support it. I have had some problems locating said odin file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
One of the most important reasons for having a custom recovery such as twrp is so you can make a full backup PRIOR to making any modifications.
I don't know how many times I have said this yet still people go ahead and flash regardless.
The firmware you are looking for is not available yet.
You're only hope is to ask someone who has the same model with unrooted firmware to make a backup of the system and boot partitions and upload them.
Or you may be able to unroot with supersu then flash just the boot.img.
If unrooting doesn't work then you may be able to flash the boot and system partition from the firmware below with Flashfire.

Make that backup first.

I thank you for your assistance, but I must say that I am not a novice when it comes to rooting, flashing, odining etc. etc.
I was merely asking if anyone came across the stock odin file I listed above, if they could link it to me. I am having a hard time finding it and as you pointed out, is because it isn't there to be found. So I will continue to wait patiently and use wifi until it is released.
Thank you.

Doogee X5 SP Flash Tool questions

First of all, sorry if this is the wrong place for the question. I just registered, so I'm not very familiar with this.
Okay, so I'm gonna try to make this as short as possible: I rooted my Doogee X5 with Kingo Root, then installed a wireless update(believe it's called an OTA), which ended in an error. Every time I boot up my phone, it just leads me to the recovery mode. I might send it for repairs because I still have a warranty(although I don't really think they're gonna do much when they see the root), but I'd like a different way to fix it if they don't. AKA SP Flash Tool(if there are any other ways to fix it that are less risky, please do suggest them).
Now to my questions: Are there any things I need to be careful about during flashing? If I flash the wrong ROM, do I have another chance? Also, if there is a tutorial around here that might be useful for me(as detailed as possible please, so I can see what needs and doesn't need to be done), it would be much appreciated to link it. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Sub-question, what are the recommended images to flash to fix my problem?
SP Flash Tool is right way to go. Download latest version, and download latest ROM version for your phone.
But do not make a mistake like me. First do backup of everything. If you do not make backup and format phone, you will need to lose some time and reconfigure things manually.
SP Flash Tool can make backup for you. You will need scatter file, and option Readback in SP Flash Tool.
After that you can download latest version of ROM.
I agree with giga. Plus one question dude. How you backed up the devices rom since the sp tool hasnt this option or i cant noticed and find. I want to root install custom recovery and also back it up. What should i do ? Is there a correct order if these steps ? I dont want to brick the device, i dont use a second one. What do you suggest me ?
