[GUIDE] Workaround to fix random stoppage of Notification sounds for Calls & Messages
Friends !
I am sharing the guide for a workaround to fix random stoppage of notification sounds for calls and messages in our device in Stock ROM.
1. Activate Do Not Disturb (DND)
2. Select Priority Mode in DND
3. In DND - Priority Mode settings, Allow Calls and Messages from All Numbers
4. Reboot the phone once after doing this
5. Phone should be in DND - Priority Mode always
For Custom ROM users, Lineage OS and ROMs based on Lineage OS has the following feature which should be enabled.
- Activate DND during Call in Phone Settings -> Sounds & Vibration
In Custom ROMs which does not the have the above feature, DND - Priority workaround can be used.
Hope this helps all

This random stoppage of notification sound bug is triggered when we get a notification while on call. The DND workaround takes that bug triggering scenario out.
This is a Oreo issue and not an OEM issue. This issue is present in the pixels too. It has to be cleared by Google.

No clock on Ambient Display when notification comes & issue w/ DND

Hi,
currently I'm on OOS 4.5.1 (with all addons as the signature says) and it's working great, but there are two things that are irritating me:
Ambient display - when a notification comes, the clock isn't displayed (to see it, I have to pick up the phone). Ambi-Turner doesn't help. The issue wasn't present on OOS 3.5.4. Is this possible to fix this, or this is a Never Settle™ feature?
DND - I set an option to automatically enable DND, when I start sleep tracking, but I feel only a short vibration, like a sign, that the setting failed (and of course, nothing happens, DND doesn't kick in). Again - how to fix this? I already granted permission to access DND setting to the app.
Forgot to mention - the app is Sleep as Android.
Any help will be appreciated.
No clock also bothers me af. But this is the intended (and dumb) behavior. Also, the red 1 is so damn annoying. Why even change what was actually good?
I had the exact same bug on the Ambient Display on 4.5.X, but it seems to be back in the Oreo OB's. Maybe it used to be a Never Settle™ feature, but I guess there was some backlash so it's back again.
Have you tried Freezing the DND App in Titanium Backup and Defrosting it? That may work.
So i guess that I'll have to live with this bug.
And freezing doesn't help, but here's the log:
https://pastebin.com/HivjnmnV
(I had to paste it somewhere, the length of the log exceed max allowed char limit)
Edit: hmm, it seems that auto DND works, if the slider is set to ring. If it's already on vibrate, then the setting doesn't change.

Screen Dimming Temporary Fix

After Oreo update, it seems there's annoying bug/feature that automatically dims my screen when using camera, Facebook, chrome, pubg mobile etc.
I tried one temporary solution for that bug which actually works on my Huawei P10.
Let me know it this solution will work on your devices.
1. Turn-off Power Saving Mode
2. Go to Go to System>Developer Options>Increase Readability Under Sunlight> Toggle Off
3. Then restart and check your apps if it still auto dimming
And if you want permanently freeze or delete power genius...that solved my problem.
But I think because I delete it now in my power usage, software ia not showing...just hardware.
I dont know if its because I delete that or was a bug that I didn't notice))
where is developer options?

Thanks for all support
hello. I do not know why but it does not help me. only locking and then re-unlocking the screen restores the normal backlight and does not dim afterwards.sorry no good English.use Google translator. Olo
it doesnt help for me. any ide of this???
Works on my P10. Thanks!
Doesn't work on my Huawei Nova 3i
It seems that Velis Auto Brightness app from Google Play Store does the trick (Honor 10 Stock Pie).
Settings:
Automatic brightness: ON
track light in graph: ON
SETTINGS: (advanced):
Automatic brightness: ON
Disable system handler: ON
Start when screen turns ON: ON
Interactive notification: ON
All other settings off/default.
When you turn off the screen and turn it on, go for the first time in notification area and set your desired value in Velis.
Turn off automatic handling of this app in battery section (app start).
If you disabled animations in developer options, enable them again (0,5x for exanple) and see the magic.
NO more dimming at all.
Hi - I see this thread was originally written 2yrs ago, but I currently have this 'screen dimming in app' problem with my P10 Plus. It started in the last couple of months and may be related to a software update - I'm currently on EMUI 9.1.0.
The Developer option on this thread unfortunately didn't resolve the problem for me (perhaps that's not longer relevant now).
Can anyone offer any other advice?l to resolve this?
Thanks.

Buggy notifications - Pie

Freshly installed Pie.
There is alarm clock setup and two hours before there is icon in the notification area and random sounds (like new message received).
Also found out those random notification sounds even when there is no notification or if there is viber message notification - few random sounds will repeat after.
I did not face those issues previously when Pie was installed as upgrade on top of Oreo, but newly installed creates problem.
p.s. I'm still pissed off from Novatek bad display so I hope I can get rid of this device
+1 also got random notifications without there beeing one.
I think it could be related to the option display ambient with the option turn on periodically
@Rubens95 - true.Amazing to put it in Display-Ambient-New notifications - repeat every 2 minutes.
Thanks.
Now one issue is left - random notifications without any even, but they are rare and not so annoying.
Cheers

It seems HMD Global finally found the killer app, but unfortunately it is killing other apps!
https://dontkillmyapp.com/nokia?1
Nokia on Android P kills any background process including sleep tracking (or any other sport tracking) after 20 minutes if the screen is off. Also when killed all alarms are stopped which renders for example any alarm clock apps useless.
This is not my work...
Found this from a AdroidPolice article
DontKillMyApp.com shames OEMs that needlessly kill useful background processes to save battery life
After killing this app, now Google Fit and all other notifications and alarms work again. Yeeeee!
That's bad reputation from their side. Disappointing.
But my issue was the 'Ambient Display' - anyway thanks for sharing.

Question Separate notification volume

Googles software doesn't allow separate ringer and notification volumes is there anyway to remedy this issue. I'm not rooted

They are testing this feature in the QPR2 betas. Hopefully it will be incorporated in the QPR2 stable build when it comes out in March. Check this and the following posts to see how to enable it on QPR2 beta.
