Network issue - Xiaomi Redmi 4a Questions & Answers

When 3g or lte is enabled, most of the time i can't make or receive calls. Sometimes calls are aborted. When only 2g enabled this problem is gone. Why?

May be issue with your local network towers, please call and confirm the proper network to be selected with your service provider, in india lots of telecom companies are merging their networks, happened to me too on vodafine, then they suggested me to select Airtel 3G as my network manually (yes vodafone center suggested me to select airtel) and it worked like amazing, no call drops from that day

Phone Shows Roaming Sign When Abroad using a Local SIM

I've recently shifted to another country,
Used my o2 SIM for a day or two and obviously phone showed as Roaming, with the little "R"..
I've now bought a local SIM card and installed and running on a local Provider, yet the phone still shows as Roaming and Data does not work unless I allow Data connection while roaming...
Is this a bug or something?
I should state I've been in a different country recently and also used a local SIM from there and I never had this issue at all... I saw the local provider when using their SIM, Now, I use a local SIM and this still shows an "R" on my signal.. Same with my girlfriends phone...
Any ideas?
Edit: I'm on a N/W unlocked phone..

In my country there were 2 networks, and when a third network started it's business, it was using the infrastructure of one of the existing networks. The phones that were using Sim cards of the third network, all showed that they were in roaming, and if they wanted to use data, they needed to enable "data while roaming" options. Of course, they were never billed for roaming charges. Now this third network has it's own infrastructure, and the roaming sign is a thing of the past.
Maybe this is the case with you too.
I would try to contact the local network provider, to seek the answer you are looking for.

I get this in Thailand because my provider has different names/IDs for the 3G and 2G networks.
The 3G is called "True-H" and the 2G "True Move", or something like that.
The SIM will automatically register on both networks, but if it connects to the 2G network I get the roaming symbol.
The solution is either to enable roaming data (I don't get charged any extra, but need to remember to disable it if I travel), or set my movie network to WCDMA only. This way it won't connect to the 2G network.

Check if you got roaming allowed and switch it of.
Register if needed handset on your network manually.
You might not have the network where you are due to availability area coverage.
Check your apn settings, if they are on the mobile network you need and settings are correct. Perhaps from website provider, or helpdesk you can request them to send settings.
Go to settings, more, mobile networks and check there. Just explore a bit.

Cheers for the replies,
I'd already checked those areas out, APN is correct, Settings from Provider received and installed, Manually selected provider from the Network list...
Still showing 'R' - AS has been said 0 I'll just have to enable Data when Roaming and turn it off when I travel..
which service provider do you use and phone model do you use?
this phenomenon normally happen in new telco on some phone model

[Q] Unable to connect to Vodafone 3G (C5302)

Hi
I am in Kolkata India and recently switched from a 2G to a 3G plan with Vodafone Kolkata. Ever since then, my problem is that I am unable to connect to 3G using WCDMA. Neither voice nor data works. If I revert to GSM only, then voice and 2G works fine. Wifi has been fine and my saviour at home.
Phone details: Sony Xperia SP C5302 running Android 4.3 build 12.1.A.1.205.
I have confirmed with network service that it is not a SIM card issue, by carrying out the foll. tests already
1- Signal strength in the area of use : At the time when I am unable to connect to 3G, my colleague sitting in the next desk and using a Motorola phone is consistently able to connect to the same 3G network from his phone. So the network strength must be fine.
2- SIM damaged or dirty - I have obtained a new SIM card as replacement, after this problem started, from my service provider yesterday. But the problem is not resolved.
3- Manual network search and connection - I have tried this many times, using WCDMA only or WCDMA(Preferred) options. In either case, only on rare occasions, the phone was able to connect to a network. However, 3G data connection (H+ icon) did not show and then the phone disconnects from network. On most occasions, when I manually attempt to connect to the 3G network, I get the message "Could not register to the selected network. Make sure SIM is inserted."
3- Trying different SIM/Handset - I have tried out both options of switching SIM and handset.
- My SIM on Motorola handset - connects to H+
- Another SIM on my Sony - momentarily connects, then disconnects and then does not connect to network.
Please let me know if anyone has faced similar issues and found any resolution. Thank you in advance.

I think that there's an option to use 2G instead of 3G in the settings menu, have you checked to see if that is enabled?

That is the WCDMA option I've mentioned about, there was no other setting for this.
Anyways, it turned out to be a hardware problem. Got the "mother-board" replaced for free as it was under warranty & now working fine!

Good to see that you've sorted out the problem!

VOLTE on Axon M in preparation of AT&T's 3G shutdown

With AT&T shutting down it's 3G network in a few months I was wondering if anyone had been able to get AT*T's voLTE (HD voice) activated so we can still make voice calls on the network. I have the AT&T model (and am using a tracfone AT&T sim), and "search" in the settings does show an entry for "enhanced LTE services" but selecting it just takes you to the same spot as the "more" entry and there is nothing useful for voLTE. When making a voice call data drops out of LTE, down to "4G".
Using a t-mobile sim (via tracfone), defaults to voLTE, verified also by surfing during a phone call, and LTE symbol staying on the whole time.
Hmmm weird, I can get voLTE with another AT&T MVNO (unreal mobile) by default, with no issues (also tested by surfing during a call and having LTE symbol stay on). I was not aware there could/would be differences in voLTE support among MVNOs

Question S21U - Problems with data dropout upon receiving call

Is anyone having an issue where the data network drops from 5G to 3G upon receiving a phone call?
On S21 Ultra, Telstra network.
Have tried Network Settings Reset without assistance, and the telco claims everything is enabled on their end.
I'm also unable to find the VoLTE toggle under Network Connections and cannot enable call waiting - I wonder if this is related.
EDIT: Turns out it was indeed a carrier issue. Resolved with call to Telstra.
It is definitely related. If no VoLTE is set, network will always switch back fron 4G or 5G to 3G to support the incoming call.
Setting to use VoLTE (or 'call via 4G') should be under Mobile Network settings.
You may want to check with Telstra support, as VoLTE may not yet be activated for your device/subscription or apn settings are not correctly set.
@OnnoJ Thanks for the reply. The call via 4G toggle is missing from my "Mobile networks" setting page. I've seen others have a similar issue, but have not found a solution as yet.
Can't believe it - called Telstra again and they now found VoLTE was NOT provisioned! They fixed it on their end and all is working.
