How to force 4g LTE on sim 1 or sim 2 as needed? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I am using the dual sim Exynos version of Note 9 and want to be able to force 4g LTE on either of the two sims as needed.
Can someone please advise how to do this on an unrooted phone? Thanks

Anyone?
I also found no solution. I think it's possible without root but no one is updating the Phone Information Apps. We need to get access at phone information 2 and not only on 1

Mine are both 4G / LTE. Inever need to switch the Sims around. Whichever I choose for days gets LTE. this is different from what I had in the Note 8. I was pleasantly surprised. Therefore it may be a settings issue for you. I have the Note 960F/D

you may try quickshortcutmaker app on exynis version and follow instructions in video
https://youtu.be/AdGAB4qRvYA

I feel like the Tasker App could handle this easily.

I dont understand the actual need.
Simply changing preferred network mode from LTE to 3G shall do to stop LTE on any sim.
I use LTE on both sims for calls
I use LTE for data on specific sim by making it as preferred sim for data.
Settings -- Networks -- Sim card manager shall help in these settings.
I am on exynos N960F Indian firmware.

You don't understand the actual need ??
So i will tell you
On my work i am located in a big Hall underground. The Provider i need down there is only coming in with -110 dB and less which is one LTE Bar. If i leave Automatic Mode it switches always in 2g Mode because of much higher Signal. So to get a nice experience and have LTE always available there is no other solution. The same kind of problem is on my other LTE Sim when on different Locations during the Day ! So i have no time to always switch sim cards so that sim2 is forcing lte !
And off course no one else knows this and so i benefit of this extremely fast connection where all others are crying because of no 4g connection

Did not you get one UI already which has option of LTE only selection too for network mode.

Negative. Here the German Rom (dbt csc unbranded)
Has never got LTE Only mode in the menu. This is also for all European Roms. I have had this only when using Root and Custom Roms.
Because i use many banking and streaming apps it's not possible to root this time. Even with Magisk Hide they will not work.
If i could i would have rooted long time ago. This is getting me Crazy really

Sorry but are you reading my Post?
I am talking LTE Only on Sim Slot 2 of any Samsung Phone out today. All the LTE Only Apps or the Phone Info Menu where they lead you is only working on Sim Slot 1.
I am sure there is a dial code like the one it gets you to the Phone1 Information Screen where you can change the bands. But only for Sim 2 (Phone info 2) on Samsung.
So again LTE Only on sim Slot 2 on Samsung Duos Versions is not Possible @ the moment without Root!
If there is any Dev out there you would be the first One to create an app where Phone INFO 2 is possible to change! Or just find the right hidden code for that i know it's there like the Phone Information 1

Hi,
There's an option to force the selected APN to LTE only but I don't know if it will behave like you want to.
What's great is that it's per SIM so you can try any combinaisons.
Deselect "undefined" and select only the "LTE" one (screenshots).
I expect that if it find any other bands getting a better signal than LTE, it will just let the phone loss the signal and not trying to catch the LTE one, but you can try.

Hey thanks for that. I really was in hope this could work but that would have bean to easy. Unfortunately it's not changing bands after deselecting undefined and than choose some network mode it remains to the same band but it looses the mobile data symbol (but still remains in same band).

This code and all Codes are not working on European Samsung Devices with Android 9 .
I Even Rooted my Galaxy Note 9 and all the hidden codes are Not working ! Even Samsung Phone Info App or other Apps are not working with Latest Android 9.
Only way is Root and Custom Rom like Alex Dev Rom where the CSC is Modified. There it was possible to change both Sim to LTE Only ! But as told before with Root
i loose to many services which are detected even with Magisk . So my next Phone will not be Samsung anymore because of that.

[Q] HELP UK model with serious signal issues on ATT in the USA

Hi all, well my One arrived from the UK today.. As I feared it does not have the ATT LTE bands that PDAbd.net suggested it had, bummer, but I can live with HSDPA... Set up the phone, it asks me to select the operator I am unsing, with ATT as the first choice... all goes well.. I load it up and initial impressions... WOW.. what a great phone.
BUT and and very BIG BUT.... the signal is terrible... bouncing from no signal to 2 bars and displaying H one minute, 3G the next and then E...
Driving down a notorious road it drops the call at least half a mile before typical and doesn't pick it up again until even later..
Does anyone know if there are any setting I can adjust to optimize to ATT?
I really do not want to put it is back in the box, but unless someone has a suggestion for me, I have no choice...
Help!!
Many thanks,
Nick
A quick question. Where did you get your HTC One? And have you used any other HTC Phones before and got good signal with it?

Hi There,
I bought it in the UK. It was a legitimate HTC supplier and an unlocked model 801n.
I have used a couple HTC phones in the past:
ATT 8X - worked well (at least as far as signal was concerned, but that was the ATT model)
I also had a Verizon Incredible, but since that is a different provider, I am ignoring it.
Other phones I have right now adn tested in the same location with the same SIM:
1. ATT - Galaxy note 2 - good signal no issues
2. ATT LG Optimus G - Good signal no issues
3. ATT Iphone 5 Good signal no issues
4. ATT Nokia 920 - good signal no issues
5. Blackberry Z10 - unbelievably good signal - no issues - Unlocked ATT bands, not ATT branded (Purchased from Expansys USA)
This is why I am wondering whether it is some kind of optimization issue. I cannot believe HTC could have made such a mistake in design. Also, if I switch to GSM only, I have full bars.... It is only on 3G and HSDPA that the signal is poor and the display oscillates between 3G and H
Any advice?
Many thanks,
Nick
Are you rooted? The solution is disabling fast dormancy on HTC One. New HTC devices enables fast dormancy by default which affects & weakens signal strength on networks that doesn't support it yet. If not I am not aware of any ways to disable it without root yet. I'll update you if I find one.
On UK almost all networks do support fast dormancy already except for Three UK so that maybe the reason why it's enabled by default in the US however I am not aware of the implementation of network carriers there sorry.

No I am not rooted - what will I lose if I root it? Do you know of a link to a simple thread with rooting instructions and how to disable the fast dormancy? I am not super experienced with Android yet
Does anyone know whether ATT supports fast dormancy of not?
Also, I have been led to believe that the One supports a number of carrier frequencies, but they only enable those for the specific region it is sold in. Do you know if there is a way to enable the other frequencies? Or is this just an unfounded rumor? Also, do you know if there is a way to check which LTE band the phone I have is equipped with - Not an on-line reference, but a way to find it on the phone?
Many thanks!!
Your warranty if you mess something in the software's side like bricking your phone & OTA updates. But you'll be able to update anyways just by directly flashing on the phone.
Anyways here's a noob proof app to rooting. Please do some research first before going so you'll not mess this up.

And... No. AT&T doesn't support fast dormancy.

Check this regarding what is Fast Dormancy and tell us if it works(probably NOT (it works only to samsung phones) but it is easy to try) http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/674208-fast-dormancy-in-nutshell.html
"To turn FD on/off enter *#9900# in the dialler to get into the SysDump screen then select the Fast Dormancy option"
You mind sharing the link if they have stock? Good luck with the signal issue.

I had a friend with an international GS2 with the same problem. Constantly bounced from HSPA+ to 3G to EDGE to no signal. I'm 99% sure that the issue is network settings, you likely need to check SIM card, data plan provisioning, APNs, etc.

Hey, thanks - Do you know what settings I should use? I have an LTE provisioned SIM card...I assume that should be ok, since the phone is LTE enabled, just wrong bands? I have tried with Auto LTE on and of - I currently have it on GSM/WCDMA - it has been working better the past day, but it is still not right..
The SIM works perfectly in the Note 2, Optimus G etc. So I am wondering whether I need to look at the APN or something like that, but I do not know what the best settings should be. Anyone have this info?
Many thanks,
Nick

APN shouldn't affect your mobile signal reception. It's just made for cellular data profiling. So you are able to connect to the internet.
How about try setting your network selection mode to manual and just select the top most usable network there?
Interesting... I am in Korea right now and have great signal... no issues at all. However, my data indicator is still bouncing between H and 3G, so that is very strange...
Despite the indicated low signal and bouncing data connection type indicator, the phone is working well, have not dropped a call recently and excellent phone call quality...
NO LTE connection in Korea though.. I assume that is probably due to ATT not having a LTE roaming data service agreement here? I believe my phone has at least one LTE band that it supported here.
Have fun..
Nick
I think u should talk to att people may be they can help? With the signal issue or the data connection issues!

[Q] Can Lumia 928 be used overseas ?

Hello all- I have not found a definitive answer so will post my question here as well. I have a chance to get a Lumia 928 (Verizon) but would like to know if I can use it in New Zealand with my Vodafone SIM. I am not sure if there will be limitations such as maps, etc.. not working.
Cheers for any help, LL13- :victory:
LTE will not work in any country besides the US. Aside from that the 928 shouldn't have any issues with taking a different SIM, as all 928s are SIM unlocked when they shipped from the factory. Before you leave though, I highly recommend you download access point via sysapp pusher in the marketplace/store. Sysapp will check for any and all OEM apps that need updating.

The one warning I would give you with the 928 is that the APN settings are a little messed up, and you may need to play around with it a bit to get them to work. My experience (using the 928 on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US) is that you need to manually set the APN settings, even when Nokia Access Point says that the SIM settings are activated. You can usually get data fine, but MMS's don't work properly if you don't manually set the APN
If possible, avoid doing it with Nokia Access Point, because if you do you will lose the ability to use LTE when you get back on Verizon until you do a hard reset (you can't recover the appropriate Verizon LTE APN settings - it will only connect to CDMA 3g). Now that GDR2 is out, you can seemingly manually set the APN's in the Cellular menu of settings, so try using that first and if it fails, copy the correct APN settings into a new Access Point APN, then manually activate it. This has fixed my issue every time, but again, necessitated a hard reset / wipe of the phone to use on Verizon's LTE network.
Cheers for that information AR...
I can enter those settings manually, I've got them memorised :silly:
Cheers again, LL13- :good:

Its not that quite confusing.
LTE is only good for the country it was released in. The international LTE bandplan is different for every country, none of them match up. For using a CDMA carrier, switching to them will require a SIM (there isn't any way to flash the settings onto the phone yet for those providers who don't yet have LTE without it being official from Nokia) so its kinda a dead end.
If your going to a GSM provider, just insert your SIM and manually add the settings for data and mms. You can use Access Point if you don't intend on using Verizon's LTE.

That makes me a bit more comfortable, cheers for that information thals1992 !!
It seems that the main issue would be with the LTE which would not be a problem since I am not even sure what it is !! I believe it may have to do with 4G or fast download speeds but there is no 4G in my town anyway.
I saw one post on another forum saying that some 928's had no way to add/edit APN settings, etc...
Each post and person seems to have a different experience, but if I can simply get a 3G data connection and normal use I would be happy.
I may just go for it then.

When you travel abroad and use the phone on a GSM carrier you will get data up to HSPA+, unless the carrier happens to share Verizons LTE band. The issue with Verizon LTE after you have used another APN is that Access Point won't deactivate all the APN settings, and since Verizon doesn't have dedicated APN data settings, it doesn't override properly and connect toVZW LTE properly without a hard reset.
The 928 has a CDMA radio as well as a fully unlocked GSM radio

I can't really help you but as far as I know LTE is already unlocked and working on all international S4 Actives. Mine certainly worked perfectly out of the box - although I turned it off promptly because I have ****ty 4G coverage where I live so it was nothing but a battery drain for me.
Are you sure you have a 4G sim card, and that you are in an area where 4G has coverage?
If you go in under settings > connections > more networks > mobile networks > network mode don't you have the LTE option at the top?

Well then I really have no idea - the only thing I can think of is that you might need to replace your sim card if your provider didn't already do so in advance of the 4G rollout. Hopefully someone with more information might step in here, but the international version is LTE capable out of the box. If you don't hear anything else I'd suggest to try and contact vodafone and get a clear answer from them first.
If you check the mobile networks in your area and don't see anything that supports LTE, you may just live in an area that doesn't have it yet (people get 4G and LTE somewhat mixed up - 4G is the overall identifier for a whole class of technologies with "4th generation cellular networks" basically while LTE is technically one of those technologies so, it should rightfully be classified as 4G in most respects.
Having said that, the only way I got my GS4A to function in LTE mode - meaning it actually shows LTE in the notification bar under the 4 with a small G and LTE underneath it - was to go into the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the preferred network type to either LTE only or LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Once I did that the radio would reset and connect and then it would be in proper LTE mode. Doing a speedtest with the Speedtest.net app shows LTE as the connection whereas with my standard setting which is WCDMA Preferred (T-Mobile AWS) it'll just show as "4G."
I've had no luck making alterations in the Settings/Mobile Networks section, I have to change it in the service menu to get LTE functional. I don't use it because here in Vegas where I live (specifically my home location) the LTE mode gets me about 1-2 bars of signal (about 8-12Mbps) whereas the WCDMA Preferred setting pulls in 5 bars rock solid and 25-35Mbps.
Can't do screenshots or I'd add them, I'm running the pre-release MI2 ROM presently and that aspect is borked.

I can check my area on the vodafone site. I live in a 4G network area 100%!

That would be because you're on the i537 from ATT, rather than the i9295 that this discussion is about. I checked google and vodafone holland does indeed use LTE on the right bands in its brand new rollout, so it isn't that - most likely it's his sim that needs replacing or it's just not activated on his account yet.

This happened to me a few months ago. The phone is definitely capable and you will get LTE signals on the $60/month GoPhone plan.
1. First of all, call GoPhone customer support (611 from the phone) and confirm that they have your HTC One whitelisted for LTE. They're going to double check with you your phone's IMEI number (they can already see it, but will ask you for it anyway), and then confirmed that the phone is allowed to get LTE signals. They're also going to double check your APN setting and provide you with the appropriate entries for AT&T.
2. Reboot and see if you now get LTE signals. If you still don't get it, check whether your mobile network settings is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto instead of GSM/WCDMA Auto or WCDMA Preferred (or maybe something else). If you don't see any LTE option, dial *#*#4636#*#* from your dialer, and in the first drop down box choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto' or anything with LTE just to make sure you can catch LTE signals at all. If you were able to find and switch to the setting you want, exit out, and go back to that menu, double checking if the setting sticks. If it does, reboot and try again.
3. Most people will get LTE signals after #1 above, while some were only able to get it after #2. However if you are unlucky like me, the LTE setting does not show up in mobile network and no matter what I do in the hidden menu, the setting won't stick (it's stuck on GSM/WCDMA Auto). I actually tried flashing a different radio at this point (a newer AT&T radio), but still... no LTE for me. What solved this finally for me is that I flashed a custom ROM (in my case it was ARHD 12.2). This enabled me to choose GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto under mobile network settings, and after that I was able to get LTE. It was great! :good:
Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

Pair 10 pro with AT&T Number Sync successful

So sorry if this was common knowledge but I haven't seen anything on this yet so I thought I'd share. I decided to try setting up AT&T's number sync between my new mate 10 pro and my LG Sport and it worked. What makes that amazing is this is the first non att branded phone I have ever been able to set up directly between the phone and a att smartwatch that didn't require me using a att branded smartphone in the middle. You can't find the ability to do it through the my att app or website but if you initiate through the watch, it will open the browser on your phone and then give you a number sync code, once you log in through the browser, you put in the code and then accept terms and it will successfully link. This phone also seems to work well with the LG Sport. Battery life is waaay better then when it's paired to my Att Note 8.
FYI, Att number sync allows multiple devices to receive a phone call or text message from the main line they are tied to. That way every thing is seen from one number. One of the requirements is that the phone must be Att branded.
So that tells me between this and VoLTE working on att with this phone, this phone was all but ready for att network and only thing missing was the att branding on the phone before att backed out.
Sorry if long l, just wanted to share to maybe help other att users.
Have you been able to get/verify that VoLTE is working on your mate 10 Pro? If yes, how did you verify it works? I have a Dual Sim 10 Pro rebranded to the US 10 Pro (did at Best Buy) with the Enhanced Voice and VoLTE options enabled. Thanks.

I didn't use the default apn that sets up when I had my att sim inserted. I used the settings from att's support page: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218306
If I remember, there were a few subtle differences. Honestly, I didn't notice if VoLTE was working before the new apn settings but I see that it works for sure with the new apn settings. My status doesn't change from LTE whether on call and/or browsing.

well, not working for me... i used an app to validate data connection during phone call and when connected to a call, data drops to HSPA+.

Hmmm...visually the LTE symbol dosesnt change and I think it sounds like it should. What's the app you used? I'll check and see if I get the same thing.

So I made a phone call with the app running and it showed under the raw tab:
Voice NW: LTE
Data NW: LTE+
So I'm guessing its working.

yep, that's an indication it's working; time to call ATT. Thanks for checking.

No problem. I was thinking, you said you rebranded to us but I wonder if by a slim chance there is some hardware difference that is dectected? Like maybe a certain band att uses. I haven't looked at the differenceces in bands between models.

Cellular bands are the same as US version; when not in a call I connect to LTE+. I can achieve cellular download speeds of 98 Mbps. Main difference between US version and mine is my phone is dual SIM Mate 10 Pro. The second SIM connects to 4G when I make a call. If I use only 1 SIM, connection drops to HSPA+. I see an option to enable VoLTE on the second SIM, but it's disabled. Have you to find a way to enable it. I appreciate your feedback, thanks again.

As you probably know, mine only has one Sim slot and when I go to settings and drill down into the mobile network options, under 'Advanced' Enhanced LTE Services is already enabled.
