Replacement phone bootlooping again. It seems to be a software or firmware issue. - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

This is a continuation of a previous thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz2/help/phone-stuck-bootloop-tried-reflashing-t3835480
Before I returned my Xperia, I tried setting it up as a new phone rather than from a backup of my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 via Google cloud backups. The phone stopped crashing, but I was pretty much ready to return the device.
I returned my old Xperia XZ2 and got an identical replacement. The new phone has a different serial number and is an older revision (not sure if it's a bad thing). Firing the phone up, I tried logging in to my Google account and restored everything from backup minus apps. After I finished the initial setup, I popped the sim tray out and stuck it back in. Phone started bootlooping again until I reimaged it with Xperia Companion. Second try, I set it up identically to the first try without restoring from backup. Logged into same accounts and downloaded the same apps with same settings. This time, it doesn't suddenly lockup up and bootloop when I pop out the sim card nor when I plug or unplug a USB device or cable into the phone. This leads me to believe that it's a software issue when I log into my Google account and restore from backup. Out of sheer curiosity, I want to see if it's possible to pinpoint if it's Google's fault of Sony's fault, then submit some sort of bug report to get this issue fixed. I really can't give this phone a good review in good conscious because of the possibility of someone experiencing the same issue but without the technical knowledge to fix it.

Have you tried downloading the newest fw from FlashTool and just flash it via there?

I currently have the bootloader locked at the moment. However, the Xperia Companion software automatically updated the phone to 51.1.A.11.51 (latest version at this time of writing) when I reimaged the phone. So basically, yes.

Did you try in safe mode?
Also did you try with an other sim card and/or sdcard?

Safe mode would still have the same boot looping issue.
I haven't tried a different sim card, but a different SD card yields the same results. Actually, just popping the card tray out of the phone is just enough to trigger the bootloop issue.

No if the bootloop is related to an app safe mode would help.
I think that the problem comes from something you did, twice the same issue isn't normal.
Check the sim card. Alos the sim tray, phone is supposed to reboot when you remove it, it seems that the captor or button or software think that you are continually removing the sim tray.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. When I do something that triggers the bootloop, such as either pulling the SIM tray out or unplugging the USB cable from the phone, the phone would hardlock for several seconds, then suddenly reboot without warning. The phone would then go into an infinite loop of "successfully" booting up into the lock screen, suddenly hardlocks a few seconds after booting (not enough time to even unlock the device), then suddenly shut off, then turn itself back on. Pulling the USB cable just triggers the bootloop. Pulling the SIM tray out would momententarly state that the SIM card is removed, then the spinning animation sudden freezes and triggers a bootloop. When I booted the phone into safe mode, it would still have the same bootlooping issue.
Also, I doubt that it's the SIM tray acting up; especially since they work fine if I don't restore from my Google account. I'm already using my phone for several days and it haven't started acting up again.

The sim card restart has every XZ2.
But it should not bootloop.

[Q] stock nexus one highly unstable after boot up

my stock nexus one becomes highly unstable after booting up. im running strock 2.2.1, and this issue started apearing recently (after 2.2.1 update). the phone has never had any problems in the past.
whenever i turn the phone on, if i touch it it becomes really laggy and freezes, requiring me to pull the battery. however, if i let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then play with it it works fine, until the next time i shut id down (which can be days). i have performed a factory reset without reinstalling all of my old applications, i have formatted my sd card, and i have checked all the applications that start on boot up, but none of them seam to be the issue (when there was nothing on the phone it still reacted this way)
any suggestions? should i contact htc? this is really annoying.
Before you do, you could try to root and check the logs for anything suspicious (logcat and kmesg). Also you could try to install custom ROM and see if the problem still exists.
If it doesn't help - you should contact HTC.

Factory reset with formatted card? Has to be something wrong with the phone.
Go to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, and try to boot phone again, often that helps.
tried wiping everything i can through recovery, yet my phone still freezes soon after start up. any chance htc will fix this? i dont want a refurb
Because when system has just booted up, it needs to check SD card and mounts all App2SD applications.
Try to boot your phone without SD and SIM card, see if it solves the issue.
tried removing sim and microsd and all th possible combinations.
it runs great without the microsd, so im guessing that was the issue. ill try another microsd to make sure its not a hardware/software bug related to sds in general but rather an issue with my specific microsd (which isnt the stock one).
thanks for the suggestion. i was very close to sending my phone in to htc (already had a ticket open and a fedex label)
that sounds good perhaps your SD card was corrupted. Connect it to your computer using a card reader, and do a disk check in Windows, see if it can fix any problem. Also try to degragment your SD card.

[Q] SIM Card causing reboots on my Xperia T

Hi guys,
Earlier i found out that my sim card was the one responsible for the sudden reboots of my Xperia T. Does anybody know how to fix this? I am currently on stock JB 4.3 with locked boot loader.
Thanks for the help
Hi there,
I would like to post my 2 cents here too, cause this is bug or whatever it is so annoying that I want to smash my Xperia against the wall.
It started shortly after I upgraded my Xperia T to 4.3 (.295). First I thought it is caused by wrong USIM placement, but even if I pull it out and follow the click to be sure it is placed properly, reboots appear from time to time. I was trying to track the source of this with "standard" steps like factory reset, installing apps and do settings without using Backup&Restore app, testing another USIM however without success, using phone with/without microSD card. I even upgraded to latest bugfixing .199 today but those damn reboots persists.
Maybe these observations will help to solve this issue:
- reboots appear usually after using apps using internet connection (mostly local news, gmail, Chrome etc) and, whats interesting, when screen is off
- mostly when on HSPA, not wi-fi
- when I play music, using PowerAmp, not tested on other mainly because I have no other installed
- sometimes after the call
- once or twice it happened when unlocking the phone
- reboots stops only if battery is totally drained or if I notice smell of the the burning flesh of my thigh and I put my screen on/or reinsert USIM.
I will observe more, but Im loosing patience
There were no reboots when on stock 4.1.2 with locked bootloader with root. I also had to turn off SIM card lock, because I need to be reachable. I like this phone, 4.3 is nicely done but this is driving me mad. I consider to downgrade and visit my local vendor, but beforehand I decided to ask community.
Sorry if this is discussed somewhere else here, I just spotted this post and added my POW. Thanks for your help
it may related to the battery
Sent from my Xperia T using xda app-developers app

mine was the opposite, reboots all the time when tethering unless I kept the phone on charge on stock 4.1.2. now on 4.3 and only had two reboots after heavy usage, but the phone wasn't on charge and was hot.
Looks like the reboots are caused by handover between 2G and 3G networks. I have set my T to stick on the 3G only and reboots have disappeared. Two days without single reboot
However I have found strange dots on the display recently, like some layer of the display is too thin and light is bit brighter in these parts, so I need to pay a visit to my vendor anyway.
Theme
Hello. I updated to 4.3 rooted ROM, and always restarted and I cant start the phone when is SIM in. Tried reinstall via CWM, nothing helped. And... yes.. maybe installed programs caused this boot loop, try install step by step program to program and succes. I found Woody theme. When I setup this theme, phone cant process Sim pin code section at start. Deleted theme helped me, and now work fine Darklord Rom
Well, I have finally isolated issue and it is not related to cellular handovers. Reboots are caused by faulty mechanism holding SIM card in place. Despite I hear and feel obvious "click" indicating SIM card is in place and mounted, it is not. After undefined time SIM card gets loosed and you can take it out very easily. Not sure if this is just me or it is a construction issue, but I saw too many posts regarding reboots. Time to check guts of your Xperia folks..

This reboot issue start happening to me just last night, no Wi-Fi no 3G, just using "UBreader" (reading a ebook, obviously ) before sleep... it reboots 3 times within an hour calling for "sim/usim card removed"... After third reboot, I open the card holder and removed SDcard, nothing happen, then I remove the sim card and did it again [the reboot] this time on porpuse, so... yeah, I think what @daemin says is true, the mechanism for holding sim card gets loose after a while... sad but true...
Maybe, when holding the phone, we press to hard on that side without noticing and that cause the problem, I don't know... but this morning I check at running apps and all or mostly all say 7 hours "running" so I think phone didn't reboot after I left it there for sleep... who knows...

Suddenly not detecting SIM and randomly freezing/screen turning off

Not too hopeful in completely fixing it, just want to know if anyone would know of a cause and if anyone has had it before/knows a solution. Phone will randomly freeze and resume as normal again, coming up with a not responding dialogue for multiple apps. It will also not detect ANY SIM card in any slot. Nothing specifically happened I don't think... It was on charge sitting on a table, I had RR ROM, V4A, moto apps and not much else. I have tried a complete internal format, restoring working nandroid backups, starting without SIM, without micro SD etc. Any ideas

New phone stuck in a bootloop. Already tried reflashing the stock firmware.

So I just got my Xperia XZ2 and it was a great phone until it started doing this. It seems that if I unplug the audio jack dongle, or swap out the micro SD card on the phone, it would lock up and start bootlooping. I'm sure there's other ways to trigger it, but I just got this phone yesterday. It would seemingly boot up as normal, hard locks within 5 seconds after booting (can't get past the unlock screen before it locks up), then self restarts and repeats. I'm able to force the phone to turn off, but I can't get the phone out of the bootloop, even after I undid the changes. Safe Mode doesn't do anything either. Only way I can find that stops the bootlooping is to reflash the factory firmware using the Xperia Companion program. However, the bootlooping would soon start again if I managed to trigger it. I did not modify the phone nor unlock the bootloader. If anyone can help try solving the problem before I try RMAing the device, that would be great.

Sounds like RMAing needed.
That's very weird.
Can't reproduce it.
H8296 Rev 2.
Try without sim and sd card in the phone.
Skickat från min H8266 via Tapatalk
That does sound like a hardware fault.
Check sim slot
Going to just RMA the phone. It also breaks into a bootloop if I disconnect my phone from its USB cable. It's a known good SIM card and micro SD card as I'm currently using both of them in my backup phone.

Freezes and restart... Died. What is the problem?

Hi guys since yesterday I have problems with my phone
the phone suddenly freezes over without being able to interact.
it restarts on its own but without ever starting the operating system in fact it shuts down and does not turn on again as if the phone had died.
the really strange thing is that the phone was fine Then suddenly he started making this mess.
Yesterday after so many hours of problems I managed to start the phone and now it works well but I am afraid that the situation will repeat itself.
the phone has the bootloader unlocked has root permissions, I followed the guides on this site.
But I have had this phone for two months now and these problems never occurred.
where can i start to understand what the problem is?
Mine suddently become all white, with the interface cut in half and moved up. i could do nothing. nor reboot nor shutdown.
after some minutes it turned back normal. i hope its color os bug and realme will fix it
It appears to be a firmware problem. We hope well.
Today did not give problems. This behavior is really strange, what can I install to understand the root of the problem?
I noticed that if the phone never goes into deep sleep mode the problem does not occur.
Now I am registering the log and as soon as the problem occurs again I go into detail to find out the real reason.
I'm trying to create an automatic script that is launched on the boot that practically never makes the phone sleep.
i'm really desperate the phone started to reboot itself.
I would like to try using a system log recorder but I realized that when I restart the phone these logs are not saved so it is impossible for me to verify the reason.
Can any of you help me out?
the phone freezes and then restarts.
Did you achieve any solution ?
No. I'm disperate.
Why don't you flash stock fw /recovery? Just to make sure it isn't an Hardware problem ?
I try but have this problem

The problem appears only when you use data connection right?
If you try to switch off data and use wifi , you will not notice
The problem is because of the the operator, try another sim provider
Yes, in fact, that could be the problem because a few months ago removing the SIM card the phone did not give more problems
maybe you gave me the solution. I'll try

I am now testing the LINEAGE it happened to me this I removed the SIM card and I installed the costum Rom, I made the various customizations and the phone never locked OR restarted.
I inserted the SIM card in the phone worked perfectly, then having messed up with luckypatcher I had to reinstall the Rom.
So I performed the same procedure with the SIM card inserted in the phone and already at the first start it was unstable with reboots.
Currently I have applied for a change of sim card.
As soon as it arrives I will try to remove the sim card Install from scratch The system is to insert the new SIM card only so I can have the mathematical certainty that it is the SIM card
I hope my experience can help someone
This problem seems true, my X2 Pro also faced same issue when enabling cellular data. The phone sometimes loses the signal or the app freezes and perform a phone reboot. X2 Pro is a mid-range flagship phone, and yet this problem should be solved before they start to sell the phone.
Yes this device has many software problems but hardware problems of this kind are not acceptable.
Practically mine has become unusable, as soon as I turn it on after a few minutes of use it start closing the apps by itself.
Then after AN intende use of 30 minutes it start to restart.
This phone is truly incredible
