USB front camera - Android Auto General

Hi
I bought a 12V USB front camera to connect it to my HU. My HU did not recognize it. I tried it on my PC and it worked. I found the same camera with input voltage 5V. Does this make any difference?
FrameworkVer: rkpx3-eng 4.4.4 KTU84Q
OsVer: 3.0.36+
Any help is appreciated

Yes, usb outputs a maximum of 5v so it can't power a 12v device, power from battery or get a 5v camera
Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

First of all thanks for your reply but I am a bit confused since I connected the 12V camera to my PC USB and it worked. So PC USB output is 12V?
Sorry that I am asking but I don't want to buy 5V camera and fails to work.
Thanks in advance

Assuming your using a USB C/3.1 port on your laptop then yeah it can output 12v, it also depends on the ma it can output so if it works on a 5v USB 2 port your camera must be able to work between 5v and 12v and its either your headunit not being able to output a high enough current or the camera is incompatible with your headunit.
Also, did you change the dvr to usb in factory settings as that could also be why it's not working
Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

I really appreciate your great help and well described information. I'm going to try to change from factory settings DVR to USB ( if I know how? lol ). I will let you know about the result in next 2 days. In case I have no good result, I buy another camera but this time of 5V input voltage.
By the way I'm using USB 2.0 port.
Best regards.

Hi Mr.R™,
I entered in factory settings and clicked on Arm Settings. Then I went under DVR which has 3 options:
OFF
CVRS DVR
USB DVR
At that moment OFF was checked, then I tried and checked USB DVR.
I went further down and found FRONT VIEW CAMERA SWITCH which has only 1 option:
Show Camera Open. I even checked this option.
I tried 2 apps ( caroo-pro-dashcam-obd and AutoGuard Dash Cam) but camera was not detected. I don't know if I did the right options.
Do you think that the camera is not compatible? If you need more in formation about my head unit, please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Looking for Y otg and charging cable please

I am going to install the Nexus 7 to my car, indash, but I need to find the cable that allows usb storage, dvb radio and charging, is there a cable that has multi usb connectors, please could someone give me links to items...many thanks.

I was looking for something similar a while back. I'm in the UK and still haven't tracked one down
You can find a y otg cable HERE. If you need several USB port, you have to use an USB hub. And also you must flash a kernel with USB host mode charging patches.

Something like this perhaps? It had a usb a cable with a switched 5v lead (for host mode charging), that end plugs into a regular usb otg cable. The other side has female usb a (for devices), mini usb (for most small usb hubs), and male usb a (for connecting to a power source, in the 2nd pick there is a 2000 mAh usb battery)
I couldn't find anyone selling them so I started making them. I could make you one or post a wiring diagram and you can go to town on it.

How much to make one and post it to me please.
Ill make and estimate for you over the weekend. Do you want it exactly like the one pictured or do you have a custom request? Your kernel supports otg charging correct? Where will I be getting a quote to ship to?

I have the usb car rom and kernel by http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/, this should work. yes I would like the same as yours please.
I have alot to do to my car anyways, I previously re modded my dash to fit a double din and modded out my boot to fit the base amp and power cap in the boot still having the spare in there and the base actually fitting inside the spare wheel and still sounding good, so will have to research the wiring needed for the nexus and the volume control and such...please be nice with the price, I do appreciate it though.
I am in the uk, where are you from?
I found the kernel you compiled, wondering if this will work with the rom I installed too.
It might, its all cm10.1 source. The current version does not support host mode, the updated one I'm posting this week does (just so you know). If it does work for you you could do some fun wardriving with your car mount, if your into that sort of thing!
I'm in sunny california usa

Will have to see what the shipping fees will be, I have friends over there too. Part of a gaming clan. Have been for sooo long now. If it works out too much, I will have to ask you for the wiring diagram and I will have to see about doing it myself, I am good with electronics, but it was just the time to set aside. You can message me the diag if you like, please forward it to fixer14 at hotmail.com.
Ok cool, its a pretty straight forward design. If you can solder you can make one.

Ok matey, hit me up with the details then please.
I have just been out to my car and have set my phone up via bluetooth, and also want my nexus to connect to the phone and have sound, calls, satnav running to the amp via phone, when I try to connect it seems that it will only allow 1 device at a time, so this is an issue for me, I want to be able to run my copilot live from the nexus, and also have ability to play music and receive and make calls. is there a bluetooth receiver that will allow me to do this without having to switch to a specific device each time...any ideas welcome, my nexus is not a 3g one.
My amp is a 4 channel Hertz, with powercap installed.
I'm installing my nexus 7 in my car as well but I'm concerned that it wont charge while running Nav, Pandora and other apps at the same time. It seems that the nexus 7 is picky when it come to cables and chargers. What do you guys suggest

Ive got my nexus 7 installed into my double din, I'm using a Parrot device to bluetooth sound to but also charging it from the usb slot from the Parrot box.
I'm going to change the bluetooth to a AUX cable to save on battery use and already tried optimising settings to save on battery.
I'm not very clued up on this type of stuff but I've got it so the screen comes on and status on when power is there, got screen dimming widgets so I can dim the screen right down when I want to save battery.
All in all it works very well but battery does eventually die after a week or two so I take it out for a full recharge.
A couple of ideas I'm thinking is
1) using usb extension cable, run it to the glove box and every couple of days attach a emergency battery charging unit.
2) using a little solar panel charging unit built into parcel shelf.

I am not concerned about power usage as an inverter will solve this permenantly. As long as you get the correct charger for use with the inverter.
Im going with this charger. From the looks of it, it seems to be a good choice.

I wonder why more developers don't include the fast charge option in their kernels. Ill let everyone know how it works
Okay, I have just made up a dock for the nexus for my car, it is in "Production State" at the mo, so I still have to tidy it up and spray it and finish it.
I have fitted a charging connector and audio connector into it,
Hardest part was getting the connectors to line up.
At least it is started now, I will be making up the OTG cable, when I get the wiring diagram for it, have all the bits ready.
Okay, here is the Video, I know the dock looks rough at the moment, but it has to be tidied up.

Samsung Smart Dock HDMI not working. ARGH!

Hi all,
I know there have been other postings regarding this, but none have helped me solve my situation:
I have a "stock ROM" AT&T Note 2, and have tried two different Smart Dock units from Fry's. I get NO usable HDMI signal from either when connecting to my ASUS V228H monitor; the HDMI cable/monitor have been checked as working by connecting my DVD recorder up and successfully playing video content. USB connections to a wired keyboard and mouse worked well on unit #1, for some reason not on unit #2. There was no improvement when I rebooted the phone into safe mode. Lastly, the phone is correctly recognized by a PC when connecting via USB (MTP mode).
I'm ready to scrap the whole Smart Dock idea and instead buy an MHL-to-HDMI adapter and bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo, which I think can be found with total price just around that of the Smart Dock... unfortunately, I guess there's no "splitter" that could let me hook a hard drive up as well, like I could with the Smart Dock.
Does anyone have any ideas? I of course would hate to have to hard reset the phone, but might do it if there's really a good chance of it helping.
Final question: is it possible that the microUSB connector at the base of the phone could get damaged in such a way that USB to PC connections work, but MHL video does not?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
did you plug the dock into an original Samsung charger?
did you reboot?
mhl takes a lot of power, so you need to have the charger plugged in to make it work.
and the usb port can get stuck in a certain mode if you've used it too much without rebooting, a simple reboot will reset it.
I am using the new micro-USB to USB cord connected to the wall charger (FYI, plugged into a power-strip, not directly into a wall outlet, would that actually lead to MHL getting too litle power?). The phone was recently rebooted. I have typed this response using a USB-connected mouse, so at least that's working. HDMI is STILL not working.

I'm guessing that unless it's specifically stated for the gn2, like the samsung dock, the microusb connector is using 5 pins instead of 11. That's the issue you'll have with mhl adapters, too: find an 11 pin, or buy the 5-> 11 adapter.
If it says compatible with the note (not note2) or evo, that's a pretty solid guarantee it's using 5 pins.
-----
I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
in this case the amount of pins is irrelevant. (edit: unless you didn't get a note 2 smart dock)
have you tried a different screen/TV and cable?
there are multiple versions of HDMI, and your cable or screen may be sufficient for an old DVD player but not a newer device.
Interesting that nowhere on the Smart Dock's box does it say "compatible with Note 2". But looking up the part # on the Samsung.com accessories site yields the following description:
Smart Dock Multimedia Hub
EDD-S20JWE
Compatibility: Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4
As for HDMI protocols changing over time leading to incompatibilities... WTF? They don't need to create specification version numbers like USB to clue the user in? I will test your theory with an MHL to HDMI dedicated connector purchased today. If you're right, even this device won't work with my monitor...
This is going to sound like the annoying tech support people on the phone but... are you sure everything is plugged in tight?
I only ask because when I first got my smart dock I was getting picture but no sound with my hdmi cable and I was about to try a different cable but decided to try replugging everything first and voila...it started working!
It didn't make sense to me because it must be plugged in if it's working even a little but apparently either the phone wasn't docked all the way or more likely I hadn't pressed the hdmi cable in enough.
Would be nice if it's that simple in your case. Good luck!
Sent From My Ginormous Note 2
Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, I had tested the Smart Dock's connections to make sure all were tight. No improvement.
I have given up on the Samsung Smart Dock for now. A "rig" that appears to be working is as follows:
1) Cirago MHL1000 MHL-to-HDMI adapter.
2) Mobile Phone->Voyage adapter (Micro 5 pin to 11 pin)
3) Comkia 3 foot HDMI cable.
4) ASUS VE228H monitor
5) HYPE Bluetooth Curve optical mouse
6) SMK-LINK Versapoint Bluetooth Slim Keyboard
You are definitely right about needing to check on the connection status of the various connectors. I periodically lose the HDMI video signal, which requires that I press the MHL adapter's plug tighter into the 5-to-11 pin connector. Yes, I also have the case off the Note II when attaching everything.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app (using the rig above).
Okay, I'm noticing that the HDMI signal gets lost every 5-10 minutes and blacks out the monitor for 5-10 secs. I also have been having the issue of definitely less than 1080p output (not sure if even 720p) except for video player and Angry Birds Star Wars which do look good.
Is this a problem of the Cirago MHL1000 plus 5-> 11 pin converter, which would be solved if I just spent some more bucks on a Samsung HDTV cable with 11 pins? Will the Samsung MHL 2.0 cable for the S4 provide better output for a Note 2 than the Samsung S3/Note 2 cable?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Okay, I sucked it up and bought the Samsung MHL 2.0 HDTV cable for the S4 and backward compatible with the Note 2. I think I've gotten things as good as it's going to get. Video out is stable and actually at higher resolution than using a Cirago cable and a 11 to 5-pin converter.
I unfortunately have no USB input capability for hard drive access. Is there any adapter to insert in the "circuit" to let me attach a HD to the Note 2 if its MicroUSB is already occupied by the MHL to HDMI cable?

hi
Hello, I have a problem when connecting a peripheral (mouse, keyboard, etc) the screen automatically flips and turns black, saying, which it is connected by hdmi too. that's not right.
otherwise it has explain, does not leave me connect the mouse and keyboard, because the s4 assumed that this also connected the hdmi.

What about analog usb audio is that supported too?

also my PS3 controller works via usb otg
USB hubs work as well; now I just need a way to charge the tablet while using usb otg
That is what I am looking after to.
If I only could get my eyes on a service manual I will find a way to charge while OTG is enabled.

There are many Y cables on eBay that allow charging and otg use at the same time. I find it's a bit hit and miss, as some don't work while others do
We might find some info on this in the kernel source as well.
The table for USB Id should say the resistor value needed for the combination that gives charging and USB OTG at the same time.
I'll see if I can find out which module in the kernel that does USB ID sensing.

Usb Y cable to quick charge and use android auto HU

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a USB Y cable (with two male usb plugs converging into one female usb port) that could allow quick charge and data transfer so it could be used with Android auto? Both male usb plugs would need to be able to transfer data into the female usb port in order for this to work.
Sent from my XT1572 using Tapatalk
I guess this wouldn't work and might also damage the head unit, but I'm no engineer.
If I were adventurous enough to risk frying my head unit and/or phone, I would follow this
http://www.instructables.com/id/Add...-hub/step3/Cut-the-VCC-wire-of-the-USB-cable/
and connect the output of the quick charge car adapter instead of the external charger.
Then would cut the Vcc wire directed to the head unit.
I don't know if the main hub cable (the one which normally goes to the PC) has to go to the phone or the head unit: who's the host in Android Auto? I'm inclined to think it's the head unit, since the phone connects in mtp mode. So my first guess is main hub cable to head unit, quick charge adapter connected like in the article, then big usb to micro usb cable to phone.
Maybe voltage higher than 5V would fry the hub, and maybe Android Auto connection is so picky (and it's picky, you know) that the hub circuitry wouldn't allow it. Who knows.
Again I'm no engineer and I'm scared to try
But I would buy a safe device tested for this use case, 10/10

Use a usb y, but don't short the data pins to send it to high charge/current mode. You won't necessarily hurt the hu but you'll never connect to AA, the phone must detect the shorted pins to enter high charge mode. Which means the phone can't talk on the data wires. I find a 2a charger running at 1a plus the hu's usb keeps just ahead of the power usage.

Unfortunately, you can't have quick charge (2.0) and data transfer at the same time (at least with my Galaxy note 4). On a standard USB cable, you have 4 wires, two for data, two for power. On my GN4, the data pair communicate with the quick charger (I'm not sure exactly what the communication is, I remember reading somewhere it used the data pairs to communicate voltage, etc...).
Now, what I did do, was make my own data cable using 2 male type A adapters and connecting it all up to a a male microUSB end(Data pair is only connected to 1 of the type A male ends, I can't remember if I wired up the power in parallel). My AA head unit puts out less amps than my car charger, so even though I'm not getting quick charge speeds, I'm getting a bit more amps to charge with. So, one male end goes to my charger, one end goes to my head unit. I've been using it like this for over a year with no issues.
How much better is it than charging while connected to the AA head unit? Not sure. I'd rather have more amps than not enough.
Just buy a y. Cheaper and safer than self making.

Hi,
I want to clarify some aspects:
1) Qualcomm's Quick Charge doesn't work when the USB is in use for data.
2) Quick Charge requires a certified adapter (as it's an active function).
3) USB power can charge the device, however very slow... in fact with AA the device consumes battery when running.
So, my question is:
- Increasing the USB power current with an Y cable the device can be charged more quickly?
- And if this is true: the Y cable needs to block the current from the dta USB port of the car?
I like to comment these topics.

Disable USB Charging?

I am trying to disable USB charging to use my drone.
As of now, the controller charges the phone which in turn drains the battery on the controller.
I used to run this drone on a Note 5 that could be rooted and would disable USB charging by "batt_slate_mode 1".
This is the N960U, USA variant which cannot be rooted. If I change the USB setting in the drop-down or in developer menu it automatically reverts to charging when the controller is connected.
I know it's possible but I am not 100% sure it is possible without root but I will state the facts and hope that someone with knowledge and skills sees this.
Things I know:
-batt_slate_mode 1 will disable charging and the drone controller will not re-enable it.
-The Sprint Variant of the N960U has a hidden data menu "##DATA#" which has an option for USB Charging Disable (see attached)
So clearly it's possible on the phone itself but possibly might be locked out by carrier circumstances.
I use an OTG (ON THE GO) cable. Is this what you are using? I have an AT&T Note 9 & have never had the issue you describe. I use it with my DJI Spark controller.

If I understand right, you are connecting the controller over USB with the usb-c to usb-a adapter?
Since the controller has its own power, could you buy a sacrifical USB cable and disable the power pins, leaving only data? Basically the reverse version of a charging only cable that has no data pins.. would be a hardware type solution as opposed to software since we have unrooted phones

Yes a USB-C to USB-A cable.
Any idea which pins / wires to disable?
Actually, from what I read, devices need the voltage from the power pins to detect the USB etc.
So I think if this were to work it would involve a resistor or something similar.
Further advise is welcome. lol
