The background to the navigation buttons is white, even if you use a black theme. Can this be changed to black somehow?

[Q] [Req] hidden Status Bar

Hey all you talented developers,...
as our SAMOLED Displays suffer from degradation of the organic LED when constantly emmiting bright white or blue,
some of us found here the need of a hideable status bar.
I searched all the internet and all of this forum but couldnĀ“t find such an app.
Is there any app or widget possible which can hide or un-hide the status bar?
Or is there any adb code that hide it and onther adb code that un-hides it??
Any help would be highly welcome.
Somehow ist should be possible.... at least we are on android
greetz the bapsack
Edit:
P.S.
1. as far as I know no launcher hides the statusbar permanently
2. even though some (!) apps might support fullscreen the status bar is still there in most apps
Both LauncherPro and Zeam have hideable status bars. See market.
the status bar is only hidden in the launcher
if you open any app e.g. internet or navigation the status bar is back in its place
Try dolphin browser, it has full screen I think
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I wonder if adding the notitlebar attribute in the framework manifest would work
No clue though, will try when have time or someone else could
Degradation? I don't think so.
Anu source?
I think the display only suffers from a minor burn-in problem, where the burn in disappears after somewhile.
well take this pic of a blank white screen aas a proof
you can still see the status bar as a shadow

ADW.Launcher has a hidable status bar. You just flick your finger UP, the status bar hides. Flick it UP again, it returns.
PS : I can fit in 5 rows of icons easily.

the aim is to hide the freakin status bar permanently
e.g.: even when navigating, web-browsing or running any other app
This adw.Launcher can NOT do!
Just start any app and zack, back is the statusbar no matter what launcher u use ADW.Launcher, Lauchner.Pro or Zeam
I have status bar burn in, viewable on the screen test blue background.
5 months, low brightness, status bar hidden most of the time using launcher pro.
Pretty sad really

That's not even a Galaxy S hah, and no burn in here with launcher pro 99% of it's life. I'm not sure how this is viewed, but if someone without a status bar is getting the same thing, it's seems a bit irrelevant in general to blame the status bar?
@bapsack
I accidently thanked you for that post hah wanted to quote it, anyways the reason for that is because it's not possible to replace that yet obviously, nothing integrates all the dynamic info it displays. It's required sorry bud!

tell me how to do and I will check
My bet is:
-make your notification bar 0-20% black
-set 50%/50%/20% R/G/B color for notification bar font and make icons with blurred edges in the same color
NO way you will get a burn.

[MOD] Hide 4g icon when WiFi is connected, no carrier on lockscreen & more

Hi guys, I've made a few more mods to declutter the stausbar a bit and remove the carrier labels from the Lock Screen and the notification panel. I've also fixed a few bugs in the recent apps mod that I'll be posting to that thread soon.
Bugfixes to recent apps:
You no longer need to reboot your phone after changing the position of the recent apps key.
The recent apps key now rotates properly in the camera app.
Here's what's on offer in this post:
Black Status Bar
Replaces pink navbar theme with solid black
Removes carrier label from lockscreen and notification shade
GPS and headset icons are totally removed (no gap in status bar from transparent icons)
Mobile data icon (4g, 3g, etc) is removed when WiFi is connected
Also, the linked thumbnails show a couple things that are in separate posts:
NFC statusbar icon is disabled
Clock in status bar no longer displays AM/PM text in 12-hour mode
Follow the links below to hide the NFC icon and/or change the statusbar clock:
Hide NFC Icon: Verizon (AT&T to come soon, PM me if you can help me re-odex it)
Remove AM/PM from statusbar: Verizon, AT&T
All the other mods are bundled together, however, I'm packaging up a few different versions so you can choose how the soft keys behave.
To install, pick the zip you want and install using TWRP.
DeclutterStockMenuKeys.zip will not change the behavior of the navigation bar, although it will still replace the pink theme with a solid black one. You still have the stock key layout: Back, Home, Menu, Notification Toggle, with long-press on home for recent apps.
DeclutterMenuToRecents.zip will replace the menu key with recent apps, with long-press on home for menu. This gets you Back, Home, Recent Apps, Notification Toggle, with long-press on home for Menu.
DeclutterNotificationToRecents.zip will replace the notification toggle key with recent apps, and will not change the long-press behavior of the home button. This gives you the following four buttons: Back, Home, Menu, Recents. Long-press home will still bring up Recent Apps.
If you want the Action Bar overflow menu with the three dots, you'll need to flash VerticalEllipsis.zip in addition to whatever you choose above.
With thanks to burningmembers for the small navbar (love that mod!) and 777jon for the black status bar and navbar themes. Also big thanks to scrosler for CleanROM, which kicks ass, and the whole xda community for the excellent resources.
Lock screen got changed to the stock android one and its hard to see. Any way you can include the regular lock screen without the carrier label?

Removes carrier label from lockscreen and notification shade
GPS and headset icons are totally removed (no gap in status bar from transparent icons)
Mobile data icon (4g, 3g, etc) is removed when WiFi is connected
Sorry if I am just being dense.

Went ahead and flashed it - answer is no.
Kept everything the same and now I have a much less cluttered status bar. The development already is amazing.
Thanks so much. Where can I donate?

I don't have transparent nav bar so not sure, BUT I do have Medium height nav bar and it stayed after the flash so I have to assume this mod doesn't do anything to touch the height of it?
Just a guess though.
If u tick ths transparent setting in front touch buttons does the nav bar go transparent? I understand if you don't want to be my tester

Yeah, everything you listed is common to all the Declutter zips. The only difference between them is how they modify the soft keys in the navigation bar.

In the lock screen settings, there's an entry called "Shortcuts" that only appears when your unlock method is set to swipe. You can then tap on an icon to change the app.

Works as advertised, I was having issues with another MOD doing similar things, thank you very much for sharing. It is functioning a little bit more like my GNex.
Are you/would you be interested in looking at adding Transparent Status Bar and Navigation to third party Launchers? You can find Jishnu Sur's thread here, at the bottom he has the code to allow this for other launchers.
Thanks for an awesome set of MODs!
by removing the gps and headphone icons, does this mean when I'm on GPS, it won't show in the status bar anymore so there is no way to know if gps is on unless you look at the settings?
OMG! I think I luv you....thank you so much for this! Can you also make the Bluetooth icon go away when not being used?

[Q] Transparent Navigation Bar

When I first goty Nexus, straight out the box, I had a transparent navigation bar. .. Not only on.my home screen, but on most apps I can remember (gmail, gapps, Facebook, etc). But somewhere between flashing and wiping and restoring and unroofing and rerouting, etc (you get my drift), I now have only transparent on my home screen, and not throughout my native apps. Anyone know how to restore that, or mod it back to transparent?

The only similar thing I saw on KitKat was expanded mode or expanded desktop, which sort of did that when the Nav bar came back from an "off screen" state. Might be available on L too...I'm not sure, I don't use Nav bars.

Transparent Soft Buttons/Nav Bar

I'm looking for a way to make the nav bar/soft keys at the bottom of the display transparent everywhere, like it is on the homescreen on GEL
Anyone know of a method for doing this? I'm on the M preview.
I know it's possible with Xposed but I'm looking other ways.
Bump...anyone?
Bump....
It would be really easy to do if you decompile and recompile your systemui.apk but, it will not look like how you think it will look. Your nav bar will end up white or grey, because it will be transparent and behind the navbar will be dead space that is white or grey. All your full screen apps (Except launcher) do not sit behind the navbar.
I think what you actually want is a dynamic navbar that changes colour to match the primary colour of the app you are using, which is much more difficult.
Or... maybe you want an expanded desktop which allows the app to be true full screen, and you swipe up to bring the navbar up transparently over the app. Though this would cut any buttons or text fields off in the app when the navbar is up.
I see what you mean... Damn well that sucks.
Thanks for the reply.

Screen dimmer for the nav bar?

On Android 7 and below, a couple screen dimmer apps, like Darker, were able to dim the nav bar and status bar. Seems Android 8 kills that. Any workarounds or apps updated to d the nav bar?
Was wondering about that as well.
My main problem is the notification drawer, which burns my retinas at night.
Currently using Twilight.

I also use Twilight (have done for years) and have the same issue. It's disappointing that Sony removed the standard Night Mode from Oreo, because I've seen it on a mate's Pixel and it works very well - like Twilight did on previous versions.
I use the xBlack - Red Theme where the buttons are just grey dots and it's ok for my eyes. So maybe that's a solution.

There are ways to mod the looks of your phone without having to root Andromeda can be set up with a couple of ADB commands, this then gives you access to Substratum.
The modules that I use most are SX DarkRes, Swift Black and Spectrum.
Spectrum is probably the best place to start for custom dark nav bar.
