i don't think there will be unlocking with verification code like general moto phones. it will be probably be just going to fastboot mode,
then ' fastboot oem unlock', voila it's unlocked. android one phones have this very handy feature. i hope really good custom rom devs buy this device since motorola hasn't been that popular in the xda community these days. hope this one makes it better

Motorola has always been developer friendly. we'll probably have kernel source files in less than two weeks. they suck at updates but bootloader unlocking has certainly been easier on moto devices. In terms of nokia android one devices, it was nokia who made that choice. i said what i said because i was talking about a moto android one device not android one device per se .

[Q] Locked Bootloader

Does this device have a locked bootloader like the Moto's of old where you cannot unlock it?
I'm talking about the International/UK device, Not a US version?
I was looking at ordering one as the Nexus 6 is way too big, but I want to be able to Root & Rom this sucker.
Ta
You can unlock it just fine. I did. Only some variants in the US doesn't allow unlocking.

Proceed with caution regarding expectations for custom ROM development for Moto X. I suspect that they will be few and far between.

[Q] Stock Lollipop Update

Hello,
I can't find a thread on any information about a Motorola rom lollipop update for OG Moto X. Did I miss it, or is there really no news about it? Google really isn't helping here, it's a mix of Moto X 2014 information and news reports that say it's happening from the beginning of November.
Thanks :good:
I just asked an agent of Moto. He said that the update might be available within 10 days.
However, Moto hasnt officially given any information....
Who knows? So glad I forked out the extra cash for a "developer edition". Kinda thought timely updates would be included lol.
Lollipop source came out about a month and a half ago, the 2nd gen Moto X and G are still the only phone outside of Nexus and GPE that has a wide rollout of Lollipop. Given that the Droid Turbo is getting updated soon, I'd guess the 2013 phones will be getting updated at the end of December or sometime in January, still ahead of most other devices, and before anything else from last year. People need to learn WTF patience is.

Nope.
Developer Edition of the 2013 X doesn't get updates any faster.
See the discussion starting at Post #4 of this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/xt1058-to-xt1053-developper-t2967009
If anything, developer editions are LESS likely to receive updates in general (e.g. Samsung)

Which doesn't hold true with the Moto X or Motorola in general since the release of the Moto X.

Guess you didn't read http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/xt1058-to-xt1053-developper-t2967009 starting with Post #4 like I suggested to hlaalu. In particular Post #6 Otherwise you would know that statement doesn't apply to the 2013 Moto X Dev Editions.

Do you have stock or custom recovery? If custom you will want to flash your stock recovery before taking a OTA.

Assuming you have a model that isn't unlockable via htcdev and you've upgraded past the current capability of sunshine then you are stuck. Likely the only hope is for future support from sunshine.
I was on the invite list for the first oneplus one (and oneplus 2 ) i opted out of the moto x, i think it would be a great phone if it was bl unlocked , if i was just an average citizen , any abdroid, apple or win phone would be fine , haha, but im not
You make no sense dude, most Moto X are unlockable and it's a great phone.

Flash Android One (Project Fi) to regular Moto x4?

Hi guys,
Is there an option to flash Android One (Project Fi) to regular Moto x4?
Reef2009
Not now, but I really want it. Is very dificult to get a Moto X4 version Android One outside of USA... :crying:
No, but a guy in the custom roms thread was able to flash the retail Moto x4 ROM onto his Fi phone (as a last resort to recover his bricked device).
I really want this feature in moto... As I don't know the regular moto will get updates like Android one or not, as I know obviously the Android one get updates faster but the regular version will get same updates even if its late or if the Android one version will updated we can update the regular moto with root and custom recovery. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I don't think you'll ever be able to apply Android One Updates to a Retail model phone (even with root and/or custom recoveries). They are just too different in some basic /system features. In fact, right now; just rooting the phone screws up your ability to apply the updates for the Android One version TO the A1 phone. Even if you UNroot.
I just hope either the developers fix that or Motorola releases a true "factory image" that we can restore that will let us truly go "back to stock" (and begin receiving updates again). If Moto does that, you should be able to apply THAT to you Retail version (turning it into an A1 phone). That's your best hope.

I am not understanding why one would buy a regular X4 if they wanted the Android One version.
Why not just buy the preferred version, initially?

The retailer one comes out full of annoying bloatwares. Actually I don't care about Fi Project, I just want have the cleanest UI possibile with only the strictly necessary. Oh, there are the security patches and os updates aspects too.

This reminds me of older non-nexus phones- we would have to grab the OTA and use tools to construct the stock rom in a form that was flashable/modifiable. In the pre-lollipop? times, the patches were file based, so it was much easier to modify just specific files. The OTAs are now block based, so they just modify the atomic blocks that need changing, so you need an exact copy of the file system in order to apply the OTA.

Will this phone get android 11?

I know maybe too soon to question it but is it possible that nokia will give us Android 11?
Nokia (Android One) only guaranteed two years of OS updates plus one year of security updates.
The two years will be over after March, so prolly no new Android versions for the 7 plus.
